Computing Eigen value equation and modal dispersion characteristics of an elliptical Bragg waveguide
Using the method of separation of variables in the elliptical coordinate system, a recursive formula for the electromagnetic fields in a new type of Bragg waveguide having elliptical core cross section with multilayered cladding is derived. The eigen equation is written in the form of Mathieu and the modified Mathieu functions and a dispersion relation is obtained for various modes supported by the proposed Bragg waveguide. The cutoff frequencies for several lower order even-odd modes have been calculated and their propagation characteristics are plotted. The results show that the dispersion curves are discontinuous and modes can exist only in particular wavelength bands. The effects of elliptical eccentricity on the mode cutoff values and mode transmission are addressed. Finally, the modal birefringence in the said waveguide is also estimated. 相似文献

采用基于Ansoft HFSS的电磁仿真平台,研究了一个工作于Ka波段(37.5 GHz附近)的缺陷态同轴布拉格波导在不同的开槽方式及缺陷位置条件下的传输特性。结果表明:该波导只有在内外导体壁单面开槽并引入缺陷,或者双面开槽且两个开槽面同时引入缺陷的条件下才能够有效地产生出传输通带;对于后者而言,将内外导体壁的波纹初始相位差设置为且让缺陷位于波导中间时,可以获得带宽极窄、阻带抑制范围较宽的传输通带,此时,给内外导体壁的缺陷引入适度的错位能够对通带的中心频率、带宽等性能指标起到微调作用,而引入大间距的错位则能够在禁带中产生出多个通带,从而起到多通道滤波的作用。 相似文献

In this present communication, we introduce a new type of annular optical waveguide whose outer cladding is made of sheath helix. The sheath helix is made up of the dielectric material of lower refractive index than the core materials. Using vector approach, the general characteristic equation for the proposed waveguide has been derived. The modal dispersion characteristics for the lowest-order modes for different pitch angles are determined and analyzed. We observe that there is no effect of pitch angles on dispersion curve nearly up to 89° but drastic change is observed at 90° and above pitch angle. On comparison of helically inner cladded annular circular waveguide, we have found that there is not the existence of the negative dispersion curve and photonic band gap in the helically outer cladded annular circular waveguide. It means only the inner cladding is responsible for the negative dispersion as well as photonic band gap. There is no effect of the outer cladding. 相似文献

In this paper, we are presenting an analytical study of the effect of curvature of the spiral shape on the modal dispersion characteristics of the waveguide whose core cross-section is bounded by two involuted spirals of the form 1/r=ξθ, where ξ is a constant and represents the curvature of the spiral taken to design the waveguide into consideration. This study has been done under the weak guidance approximation. Analyzing the dispersion curves for different curvature we found that this waveguide supports only the single mode, and their cutoff value decreases as the the curvature of the spiral increases. 相似文献

We report generation of near-infrared photon pairs in fundamental spatial modes via type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO(4)) nonlinear waveguide supporting multiple transverse modes. This demonstrates experimentally a versatile scheme for controlling the spatial characteristics of the produced nonclassical light based on exploitation of intermodal dispersion. Coupling characteristics of 4 × 4 elliptical core optical waveguide couplers that consist of four highly elliptical core fibers, whose centers form a rectangle, are obtained. The effect of the aspect ratio of the individual elliptical core fibers as well as that of their rectangular arrangement on the coupling characteristics have been obtained. The field distributions and dispersion characteristics of hybrid modes in circular chiro ferrite central-loaded waveguide are investigated numerically in this paper. Especially, the effects of constitutive parameters of chiro ferrite material on the propagation behaviour of hybrid modes are examined in detail, and some novel features are pointed out. The results show that, as reciprocal chiral and gyrotropic media, nonreciprocal chiroferrite materials have potential applications for the design of microwave, millimeter wave and integrated optical devices. 相似文献

高功率半导体激光器在固体或光纤激光器泵浦、材料加工、医疗、传感、空间通讯和国防上有着极其重要的应用,但传统半导体激光器面临垂直发散角大、椭圆光斑的难题,限制了其直接应用。为了降低激光器的垂直发散角,本项目采用布拉格反射波导结构,利用光子带隙导引替代传统的全反射进行光场限制,优化设计了多种布拉格反射波导激光器结构,并制备了高性能的激光器器件。首先,采用传输矩阵理论和布洛赫波近似的方法计算了布拉格反射波导的模式色散关系,发现通过控制腔模光场分布,可实现不同远场的激光输出。接着,针对布拉格波导光子带隙导引机制,深入研究了四分之一波长布拉格反射波导激光器、单边布拉格反射波导激光器的光场特性,弄清了影响此类激光器远场的本质因素,最终设计并验证了一种布拉格反射波导双光束激光器,激光器在垂直方向可输出两个对称的、近圆形光束,单光束垂直和侧向发散角半高全宽分别低至7.2°和5.4°。另外,通过调控光缺陷层,使激光器工作在受抑隧穿光子带隙导引机制下,实现了超窄的单光束激光输出,激光器单管连续输出功率超过4.6 W,垂直发散角最低降至4.9°(半高全宽)和9.8°(95%功率)。这种高功率、窄的圆形光束输出可以大幅降低半导体激光器的应用成本,提高泵浦或光纤耦合效率,具有广阔的应用前景。 相似文献

最近研究表明,两束交叉激光脉冲在等离子体中传播时,可以诱导生成周期等离子体密度调制(或称等离子体布拉格光栅). 分别利用传输矩阵法和耦合模理论,推导了激光斜入射时等离子体光栅的色散关系. 两种方法均表明,均匀等离子体光栅存在着光子带隙结构,并且在带隙附近有强烈的色散. 当激光斜入射时,带隙结构会呈现不同的偏振特性:S偏振光的带隙宽度随着入射角的增大而逐渐变宽,而P偏振光的带隙宽度随着入射角的增大先迅速变窄,在布儒斯特角入射时带隙消失,然后又随着入射角的增大而迅速变宽. 超宽的光子带隙和超高的激光损伤阈值,使得等离子体光栅有望成为一种新型的操纵强激光脉冲的光子器件.

Waveguide dispersion characteristics of two kinds of triple-clad single-mode fibers named WI and WII were examined in this paper. In view of the impossibility to deduce the expression of waveguide dispersion directly due to the complexity of the characteristic equations, a feasible approach to calculate waveguide dispersion was established. The calculated results indicate that the adjustable range of the zero-dispersion point of the triple-clad WI- and WII-type single-mode fibers is obviously wider than that of the conventional doubly clad W-type single-mode fibers in the same conditions. The influences made by the geometric parameters and optical parameters on the waveguide dispersion and cutoff characteristics of low-order modes for WI- and WII-type fibers were analyzed. The method presented to calculate waveguide dispersion can be applied to multi-clad fibers. 相似文献

Abstract The excitation of surface plasma waves due to the interaction of an elliptical relativistic density modulated electron beam with the magnetized dusty plasma column with elliptical cross-section has been studied. The dispersion relation of surface plasma waves has been retrieved from the derived dispersion relation by considering that the beam is absent and there is no dust in the plasma elliptical cylinder. It is shown that the Cherenkov and fast cyclotron interactions appear between the beam and eigen-modes of plasma column. The growth rate of the instability increases with the beam density and modulation index as one-third power of the beam density in Cherenkov interaction and is proportional to the square root of beam density in fast cyclotron interaction. Analysis of a deep waveguide Bragg grating 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Spectral properties of a very deep Bragg grating operating in a first diffraction order on a single-mode planar waveguide have been studied theoretically. It is shown that the scattering loss can be low (a few percent), the reflectivity very high (over 90%), the reflection band is shifted against the Bragg wavelength toward the shorter wavelengths, and its spectral shape is very different from that of a shallow grating. Inside a reflection band, a part of the input optical power penetrates through the grating even if it is infinitely long. These properties are predicted by modelling using two independent computer codes based on different modelling methods, namely the bi-directional mode expansion and propagation method (BEP), and a method of lines (MoL). An analytical form was found and transparency boundary conditions were numerically approximated for the parabolic wave equation in curvilinear coordinates. It was shown that the solutions obtained by the parabolic equation method are in agreement with the solutions to the spectral problem defining the Bragg waveguide modes.
