Solid-state dye-doped polymers are attractive alternatives to the conventional liquid-dye solutions. In this paper, the spectral characteristics and nonlinear properties of the dye Methyl violet 2B has been studied. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of Methyl violet 2B dye in ethanol and a dye-doped polymer film were measured by the Z-scan technique. This material exhibits a negative optical nonlinearity. The dye exhibited a nonlinear refractive coefficient (n 2 = ?4.14 × 10?7 and ?4.291 × 10?7 cm2/W in liquid and solid media, respectively), nonlinear absorption coefficient (β = ?4.634 × 10?3 and ?4.66 × 10?3 cm/W in liquid and solid media, respectively), and susceptibility (χ(3) = 1.88 × 10?5 and 1.963 × 10?5 esu in liquid and solid media, respectively). These results show that Methyl violet 2B dye has potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

In this paper, the spectral characteristics and nonlinear properties of the Aniline Blue dye has been studied. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of the Aniline Blue dye in ethanol and a dye-doped polymer film were measured by the Z-scan technique using a 632.8-nm He-Ne laser. This material exhibits a negative optical non-linearity. The dye at a 0.4-mM concentration exhibited a nonlinear refractive coefficient (n 2 = ?4.02 × 10?8 and ?4.41 × 10?8 cm2/W in liquid and solid media, respectively), a nonlinear absorption coefficient (β = ?9.7 × 10?4 and ?11.63 × 10?4 cm/W in liquid and solid media, respectively), and susceptibility (x (3) = 1.844 × 10?6 and 2.028 × 10?6 esu in liquid and solid media, respectively). These results show that the Aniline Blue dye has potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

The optical nonlinearity of organic dye-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-silica-gel hybrid material was investigated by second-harmonic-generation measurement. We found that incorporation of in situ polymerized solgel precursors into the organic dye-doped PMMA significantly improved the nonlinear optical stability of the system. However, improvement of thermal stability occurred only when a sufficient amount of silica gel was incorporated. A structural phase transition from pure polymer to a hybrid system was found near a 10-mol.% silica-gel concentration. The optimum polymer/tetraethoxysilane molar ratio is 2:1 to 1:1.  相似文献

We present a brief review of non-linear optical investigations on dye-doped solids using low-power CW lasers. After a brief introduction to the photophysics of the dye molecules, we discuss specific nonlinear processes such as self-diffraction, optical phase conjugation, two-beam coupling and polarization gratings in these systems. Solid-state dye-doped polymer is an attractive alternative to the conventional liquid dye solution. In this Letter the spectral characteristics and the nonlinear optical properties of the dye night blue are studied. The spectral characteristics of night blue dye doped poly(methylmethacrylate) modified with additive n-butyl acetate (nBA) are studied by recording its absorption and fluorescence spectra and the results are compared with the corresponding liquid mixture. The nonlinear refractive index of the dye in nBA and dye doped polymer film were measured using z-scan technique [S.-B., Mansoor, A.A. Said, T.-H. Wei, D.J. Hagan, E.W. Van Stryland, IEEE J. Quantum Electron. 26 (1990) 760], by exciting with He–Ne laser. The results obtained are intercompared. Both the samples of dye night blue show a negative nonlinear refractive index. The origin of optical nonlinearity in the dye may be attributed due to laser-heating induced nonlinear effect.  相似文献

Solid-state dye-doped materials are an attractive alternative to conventional liquid dye solution. In this study, the spectral characteristics of dye cresyl violet before and after intercalating into layered titanate nanosheets and forming a nanohybrid thin film were investigated by measuring absorption and fluorescence spectra. In addition, their nonlinear optical properties were studied using single beam z-scan technique under irradiation of low power continuous wave (CW) produced by DPSS laser with a wavelength of 532 nm. The nonlinear studying results reveal that the dye cresyl violet in solution has a negative nonlinear refractive index, but it reverses to positive after the dye is intercalated into layered titanate nanosheets with a negative nonlinear refractive index forming CV/HTO nanohybrid thin film. This method can provide a way to turn to reverse nonlinear refraction sign of the materials.  相似文献

Solid-state dye-doped polymers are an attractive alternative to the conventional liquid-dye solutions. The search for new materials which have potential application in optoelectronic devices has lead us to probe the organic dyes. The solid state being a better medium when compared to a liquid medium has lead to the incorporation of dyes in the polymer matrix. The study of nonlinear characteristics of dyes in polymeric media is essential for developing such potential application devices. In this paper, the third-order nonlinear optical properties of three dyes from the Triarylmethane family were measured in 1-Butanol and in dye-doped polymer films by the Z-scan technique using a cw diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm. The Z-scan technique has also been used to present the observation of a nonlinear refractive index resulting from the photochromism of one of the dyes. These materials exhibit a large negative optical nonlinearity resulting due to the thermal effect. The relative contributions from the nonlinear absorption (NLA) and nonlinear refraction (NLR) are dependent on the chemical structure and linear absorption of the dyes. The dyes exhibited a nonlinear refractive coefficient n 2, a nonlinear absorption coefficient β, and susceptibility x(3) on the order of 10?8 cm2/W, 10?4 cm/W, and 10?6 esu, respectively, in both liquid and solid media. The results show that these dyes have potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

We demonstrate two simple yet efficient all-optical image-processing techniques that use nonlinear photosensitive dye-doped nematic liquid-crystal films, namely, edge enhancement and image addition-subtraction operations. The optical properties of Violet 1-doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) have been investigated using Wemble and Didomenico (WD) method. The optical constants such as refractive index n, the dispersion energy E d, the oscillation energy E 0, the lattice dielectric constant \(\varepsilon _{\infty } \), light frequency dielectric constant ε 0 and the ratio of carrier concentration to the effective mass N/m* have been determined using reflection spectra in the wavelength range 300–900 nm. The single- beam Z-scan technique was used to determine the nonlinear optical properties of Violet 1:polyvinylalcohol (PVA) thin film. The experiments were performed using continuous wave (cw) laser with a wavelength of 635 nm. The calculated nonlinear refractive index of the film, n 2 = ?2.79×10?7 cm2/W and nonlinear absorption coefficient, β = 6.31×10?3 cm /W. Optical limiting characteristics of the dye-doped polymer film was studied. The result reveals that Violet 1 can be a promising material for optical limiting applications.  相似文献

The optical properties and the theoretical prediction of color optical shutter with dye-doped polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC) were investigated. The view-angle dependence of reflectance according to the bias conditions showed distinctive characteristics, which could be explained from the effects of dye absorption and path length. It was also shown that the thickness dependence of reflectance was strongly influenced by the light-scattering coefficient. Our experimental results matched up well with the theoretical prediction based on the light scattering of liquid crystals in polymer network and the absorption of dichroic dye. This work indicates potential to improve the optical device using dye-doped liquid crystal-polymer composite.  相似文献

The nonlinear refractive index of some pure and dye-doped nematic liquid crystals was measured and compared using extraordinary polarized light. The optical torque of the nematic liquid crystals was strongly enhanced by a small amount of dye impurities (Sudan Black B). This observation is found to be in good agreement with the Janossy model. The dependence of the enhancement factor on the nematic host structure was investigated. The sign of all nonlinear refractive indices were determined by the Z-scan technique.  相似文献

报道了一种新型有机材料ZnTBP-CA-PhR的光学非线性吸收特性,此材料在激光作用下,在可见光区域具有反饱和吸收,再反饱和吸收和饱和吸收效应.同时发现该材料优良的光学限幅性能,不仅光限幅的阈值低,而且限幅前光透射呈线性状态没有光学非线性效应.用5能级结构模型及速率方程模拟了饱和及反饱和的实验曲线,分析了非线性吸收等的物理机理.  相似文献

The cause of the change in the optical path lengthΔ(nd) of the saturable absorbing dye-doped polymer films under laser irradiation is investigated using polyvinyl alcohol and gelatin films doped with erythrosin B. The temperature rise of the dye-doped films, the changes in optical path length, film thickness, the refractive index and the optical density of the dye-doped films are measured under laser irradiation. The thermal expansion due to the temperature rise of the dye-doped films caused by the irradiation has greater effect on theΔ(nd) than the fading of dye molecules due to the irradiation of laser beams.  相似文献

We describe a fast optical recording material based on a dye-doped polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal film. A holographic grating is written in this film with a single Q -switched Nd:YAG laser pulse that has a duration of ~6 ns . Such a grating is due to the reorientation effect of the liquid-crystal molecules through interaction with the photoinduced adsorption of the doped azo dyes. Experimental results indicate that the grating thus formed is permanent but electrically switchable.  相似文献

We have experimentally demonstrated optical phase conjugation and double-exposure phase-conjugate interferometry in a methyl green dye-doped gelatin film via degenerate four-wave mixing using a low-power He–Ne laser for the first time. The origin of phase conjugation associated with this dye-doped film is discussed. A phase-conjugate reflectivity of 0.13% is obtained with a He–Ne laser of total power 35 mW. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystals (KDP, KH2PO4) doped with the organic xylenol orange (XO) dye are grown, the XO concentration in the crystal matrix is about 10 ppm. The spectral and luminescent properties of nominally pure, dye-doped and dye-doped/annealed at 150 °C crystals (KDP, KDP:XO and KDP:XOan) were measured. The annealing temperature effect on the degree of dye protonation in the crystal matrix is established. Analysis of the IR-absorption spectra reveals a strong interaction between the incorporated dye molecules and the hydrogen subsystem of the matrix. The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of KDP, KDP:XO and KDP:XOan crystals are studied within the self-action effect of picosecond laser pulses at 532 nm. The mechanism of photoinduced bleaching and the effects of laser beam self-focusing (in KDP) and self-defocusing (in KDP:XO and KDP:XOan) are supposed to be due to resonance excitation of the subsystems of intrinsic defects and dye molecules, correspondingly. For KDP:XOan it is shown that thermal annealing of intrinsic crystal defects leads to domination of more effective NLO response of the subsystem of dye molecules that is correlated with photoluminescence data.  相似文献

石墨烯及其衍生物作为新型碳纳米结构,由于其优异的光限幅性能而受到广泛关注,但现有的工作多侧重于其在液相体系中光限幅效应及其起因研究.本文以壳聚糖为成膜基质,将氧化石墨烯(GO)与壳聚糖(CS)在液相中均匀共混后成膜,对比研究GO溶液和GO-CS复合膜的光限幅效应及其起因.结果表明在线性透过率相同的情况下,GO在固相基质中表现出比液相基质更强的光限幅效应和更弱的非线性散射.这说明不同于碳纳米管简单的非线性散射,在GO中可能存在多种非线性光学效应.  相似文献

We report a study on the third-order nonlinear optical properties of nanocomposite thin films composed of gold particles embedded in a silica host matrix. Samples of various metal volume fractions, ranging from 8 to 35%, are synthesized by the sputtering technique. Some of them are annealed. Nonlinear optical measurements, which are performed by using the z-scan technique, reveal both a very large nonlinear absorption and a weak nonlinear refraction close to the surface plasmon resonance frequency of the particles. We especially study the effect of the metal concentration and the influence of thermal treatment on the real and imaginary components of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility. Our results reveal that, as the metal concentration reaches a few percent, the mutual electromagnetic interactions between particles greatly enlarge the nonlinear optical response of the material and can not be neglected in the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the thermal treatment leads, for a given concentration, to a significant increase of the nonlinear response, which is ascribed to a modification of the material morphology. We finally point out that the material nonlinear properties are very sensitive to the incident wavelength through the local field enhancement phenomenon. Received 12 December 2001  相似文献
