A mathematical formulation of column optimization problems allowing for bimodal optimum buckling loads is developed in this paper. The columns are continuous and linearly elastic, and assumed to have no geometrical imperfections. It is first shown that bimodal solutions exist for columns that rest on a linearly elastic (Winkler) foundation and have clamped-clamped and clamped-simply supported ends. The equilibrium equation for a non-extensible, geometrically nonlinear elastic column is then derived, and the initial post-buckling behaviour of a bimodal optimum column near the bifurcation point is studied using a perturbation method. It is shown that in the general case the post-buckling behaviour is governed by a fourth order polynomial equation, i.e., near the bifurcation point there may be up to four post-buckling equilibrium states emanating from the trivial equilibrium state. Each of these equilibrium states may be either supercritical or subcritical in the vicinity of the bifurcation point. The conditions for stability of these non-trivial post-buckling states are established based on verification of positive semi-definiteness of a two-by-two matrix whose coefficients are integrals of the buckling modes and their derivatives. In the end of the paper we present and discuss numerical results for the post-buckling behaviour of several columns with bimodal optimum buckling loads.  相似文献

The paper presents a procedure for the analysis of stability and initial post-buckling behaviour of spliced columns in sway and non-sway steel frames. The main assumptions are linear elasticity and geometrically perfect columns that are loaded by a compressive force which retains its direction as the column deflects. An energy-based formulation that includes a polynomial Rayleigh–Ritz approximation into the potential energy function, in combination with the Lagrange’s method of undetermined multipliers, has been found very convenient for this type of problem. The system is thus described by a set of kinematically admissible generalized coordinates and a single loading parameter. First, the critical state is characterized by means of linear eigenvalue analysis. A parametric study is implemented to assess the critical load. The numerical results are used to develop a relatively simple yet reasonably accurate engineering method for predicting the critical behaviour of spliced columns in sway and non-sway steel frames. The energy formulation is then applied to the search of post-buckling branches of bifurcation points. The approach embraces path-following methods based on perturbation schemes built on a Newton type iterative procedure. This is illustrated in the application to post-bifurcation in columns with different splice mechanical characteristics. The findings suggest that the splice tangent stiffness has a major influence on the overall column behaviour.  相似文献

Based on the conjugate point theory in calculus of variations, sufficient conditions on stability of all Euler elasticas for a column clamped at one end and guided at the other are proposed in this paper. For the Euler elasticas, an initial value problem is solved numerically by the Euler iteration. Sufficient conditions are satisfied that Euler elasticas with one half wave are stable and the others with more than one half wave are unstable in post-buckling. As load is smaller than the Euler critical force, it is sufficient theoretically that straight shape is stable. As load exceeds the Euler critical force, it is sufficient theoretically that straight shape is unstable.  相似文献

粘贴压电层功能梯度材料Timoshenko梁的热过屈曲分析   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
研究了上下表面粘贴压电层的功能梯度材料Timoshenko梁在升温及电场作用下的过屈曲行为。在精确考虑轴线伸长和一阶横向剪切变形的基础上,建立了压电功能梯度Timoshenko层合梁在热-电-机械载荷作用下的几何非线性控制方程。其中,假设功能梯度的材料性质沿厚度方向按照幂函数连续变化,压电层为各向同性均匀材料。采用打靶法数值求解所得强非线性边值问题,获得了在均匀电场和横向非均匀升温场内两端固定Timoshenko梁的静态非线性屈曲和过屈曲数值解。并给出了梁的变形随热、电载荷及材料梯度参数变化的特性曲线。结果表明,通过施加电压在压电层产生拉应力可以有效地提高梁的热屈曲临界载荷,延缓热过屈曲发生。由于材料在横向的非均匀性,即使在均匀升温和均匀电场作用下,也会产生拉-弯耦合效应。但是对于两端固定的压电-功能梯度材料梁,在横向非均匀升温下过屈曲变形仍然是分叉形的。  相似文献

The paper treats the stability of surface waves generated when a rubber half-space is subjected to compression. At a load level below the critical one an asymptotic expansion is given for the difference between the potential energy of an adjacent state and that of the fundamental state. The displacement field is expressed approximately by a linear combination of two different buckling modes and a residual displacement field which is orthogonal to the former fields. This remainder permits us to take into account the effect of all other modes which have been neglected. The wavelength of the two modes are governed by the dominant imperfections of the half-space. Terms up to the fourth order in the amplitudes of the buckling modes are included.Results are presented to show the most severe post-buckling behaviour as presented by the line of steepest descent in the load displacement diagram. Furthermore curves showing the reduction of the critical load on account of the imperfections in the two dominant modes are also presented. The analysis is kept sufficiently general to include the effect of pre-straining the rubber half-space upon the post-buckling behaviour.  相似文献

Certain classes of slender structures of complex cross-section or fabricated from specialised materials can exhibit a bi-linear bending moment-curvature relationship that has a strong influence on their global structural behaviour. This condition may be encountered, for instance, in (a) non-linear elastic or inelastic post-buckling problems if the cross-section stiffness may be well approximated by a bi-linear model; (b) multi-layered structures such as stranded cables, power transmission lines, umbilical cables and flexible pipes where the drop in the bending stiffness is associated with an internal friction mechanism. This paper presents a mathematical formulation and an analytical solution for such slender structures with a bi-linear bending moment versus curvature constitutive behaviour and subjected to axial terminal forces. A set of five first-order non-linear ordinary differential equations are derived from considering geometrical compatibility, equilibrium of forces and moments and constitutive equations, with hinged boundary conditions prescribed at both ends, resulting a complex two-point boundary value problem. The variables are non-dimensionalised and solutions are developed for monotonic and unloading conditions. The results are presented in non-dimensional graphs for a range of critical curvatures and reductions in bending stiffness, and it is shown how these parameters affect the structure's post-buckling behaviour.  相似文献

While studies of post-buckling behavior and load-carrying capacities of thin plates subjected to uniaxial compression have been limited to stable conditions, further post-buckling loading generates an unstable condition. The secondary buckling which occurs with snap-through to higher-order deflections under such unstable conditions has not been analyzed in detail as yet. In the first part of this paper, a thin square plate under uniaxial compression, which is simply supported along four edges, is considered. A method based on the second variation of the total potential energy is then proposed for evaluating the stability of the post-buckling equilibrium state and inevitable secondary buckling is derived analytically. The effects of various factors, such as initial imperfections, assumed virtual displacement pattern, post-buckling deflection pattern and in-plane boundary conditions, on the secondary buckling values are discussed. In part 2, secondary buckling of clamped plates is analyzed by use of the finite element method and the resultant numerical results are compared with experimental results.  相似文献

Based on the assumption of finite deformation, the Hamilton variational principle is extended to a nonlinear elastic Euler-type beam-column structure located on a nonlinear elastic foundation. The corresponding three-dimensional (3D) mathematical model for anaiyzing the nonlinear mechanical behaviors of structures is established, in which the effects of the rotation inertia and the nonlinearity of material and geometry are considered. As an application, the nonlinear stability and the post-buckling for a linear elastic beam with the equal cross-section located on an elastic foundation are analyzed.One end of the beam is fully fixed, and the other end is partially fixed and subjected to an axial force. A new numerical technique is proposed to calculate the trivial solution,bifurcation points, and bifurcation solutions by the shooting method and the Newton-Raphson iterative method. The first and second bifurcation points and the corresponding bifurcation solutions are calculated successfully. The effects of the foundation resistances and the inertia moments on the bifurcation points are considered.  相似文献

Based on the conjugate point theory in calculus of variations, the extensibility effects on the stability of Euler elasticas with one clamped end and the other clamped in rotation in the post-buckling are investigated. For a slender rod, it is shown that: (1) the buckling load is a little bigger than Euler critical load, (2) the addition of extensibility to the elastica does not affect its stability in the post-buckling, in the sense that those Euler elasticas with one inflexion point are stable while those Euler elasticas with more than one inflexion point are unstable.  相似文献

In this paper, the effect of a centrally applied external axial tensile load on the lateral-torsional buckling resistance of simply supported I-beams under uniform bending acting in the plane of maximum rigidity is studied. A linear and a nonlinear analysis are performed. Following the linear analysis, an expression for the critical moment of lateral-torsional buckling is presented in which the influence of the axial tensile force is included. There is an upper limit of this force over which the equilibrium in the deformed state is not possible. In the nonlinear analysis, the nature of the critical state is studied, considering the initial part of the post-buckling path. It is concluded that this critical state is associated with a stable symmetrical bifurcation point. Nevertheless, the post-buckling path is very shallow; therefore, the beam cannot exhibit practically post-buckling strength. The paper is supplemented by a representative example.  相似文献

The most important issue in the vibration study of an engineering system is dynamics modeling. Axially moving continua is often discussed without the inertia produced by the rotation of the continua section. The main goal of this paper is to discover the effects of rotary inertia on the free vibration characteristics of an axially moving beam in the sub-critical and super-critical regime. Specifically, an integro-partial-differential nonlinear equation is modeled for the transverse vibration of the moving beam based on the generalized Hamilton principle. Then the effects of rotary inertia on the natural frequencies, the critical speed, post-buckling vibration frequencies are presented. Two kinds of boundary conditions are also compared. In super-critical speed range, the straight configuration of the axially moving beam loses its stability. The buckling configurations are derived from the corresponding nonlinear static equilibrium equation. Then the natural frequencies of the post-buckling vibration of the super-critical moving beam are calculated by using local linearization theory. By comparing the critical speed and the vibration frequencies in the sub-critical and super-critical regime, the effects of the inertia moment due to beam section rotation are investigated. Several interesting phenomena are disclosed. For examples, without rotary inertia, the study overestimates the stability of the axially moving beam. Moreover, the relative differences between the super-critical fundamental frequencies of the two theories may increase with an increasing beam length.  相似文献

The post-buckling response of a simply supported, axially compressed, uniform bar of non-linearly elastic material, is presented. The buckling analysis considers large deflections of the elastica type in which the influence of bar axis shortening is also taken into account. The solution of the strongly non-linear differential equation is obtained analytically by a simple and very efficient approximate technique leading to reliable results. Conditions of stability of the post-buckling path depending on the degree of the material non-linearity are established. Moreover, the individual and coupling effect of the material non-linearity and the bar slenderness ratio on the post-buckling path are thoroughly discussed.Numerical results for both non-linearly and linearly elastic material show the efficiency and reliability of the proposed procedure.  相似文献

The buckling and post-buckling behaviour of prismatic aluminium columns from stocky to very slender shapes is investigated. The unconventional, in terms of buckling tests, displacement control of compressive load and a series of loadings provided an enhanced insight into the buckling process. A phenomenon of buckling load drop has been detected in columns of intermediate slenderness, reaching over 20% of the load early critical value. This newly observed occurrence resembles finite disturbance instability, which until recently was commonly believed to only appear in cases of thin walled cylindrical shells, but not columns. The observation is in contradiction to predicted results from the elasto-plastic buckling models of Engesser or Shanley, with constant or growing values of load during the post-buckling process. Further tests on columns of intermediate slenderness, with strain gauges glued at node and anti-node locations of the buckled profiles, revealed that even minute buckling results in fields of highly non-symmetric residual microplastic strain. The results of the present study indicate that running column buckling tests under displacement control is worthy of being adopted as common practice. The envelope of column post-buckling states can be conveniently determined. This information will in turn allow for the quick and reliable estimation of the safety of a column, which has undergone accidental or deliberate damage in the form of limited buckling when under operational load.  相似文献

为了有效完成大型铰接单层网壳结构的后屈曲分析,本文采用对杆单元杆端力函数求导的方法推导出了等直杆单元切线刚度矩阵的精确形式。该切线刚度矩阵不受结构小变形限制,适用于结构产生任意大结点位移情况。以六角星桁架、平面圆拱桁架和大跨K8单层网壳结构为算例,采用广义位移控制法进行非线性后屈曲分析,其中预测子采用本文杆单元切线刚度矩阵。算例分析结果表明,本文杆单元切线刚度矩阵在大型铰接单层网壳结构的非线性后屈曲分析中有很强的预测能力。  相似文献

功能梯度材料的宏观物理性能随空间位置连续变化,能充分减少不同组份材料结合部位界面性能的不匹配因素.功能梯度壁板用作高速飞行器的热防护结构,能有效消除气动加热带来的壁板内部热应力集中.本文考虑热过屈曲变形引入的结构几何非线性,分析功能梯度壁板的气动弹性颤振边界.基于幂函数材料分布假设,采用混合定律计算功能梯度材料的等效力学性能.根据一阶剪切变形板理论、冯·卡门应变-位移关系和一阶活塞理论,基于虚功原理建立超声速气流中受热功能梯度壁板的非线性气动弹性有限元方程.采用牛顿-拉弗森迭代法数值求解壁板的热屈曲变形,分析超声速气流对热屈曲变形的影响机理.在壁板热过屈曲的静力平衡位置分析动态稳定性,确定了壁板的颤振边界.研究表明,当陶瓷-金属功能梯度壁板的组份材料沿厚度方向梯度分布时,会破坏结构的对称性导致壁板在面内热应力作用下发生指向金属侧的热屈曲变形.超声速气流中壁板热屈曲变形最大的位置随气流速压增大向下游推移,并伴随屈曲变形量的减小.热过屈曲壁板的几何非线性效应会提高壁板的颤振边界,这种影响在高温、低无量纲速压且壁板发生大挠度热屈曲变形时表现显著.较高无量纲气流速压下由于壁板的热屈曲变形被气动力限定在小挠度范围,几何非线性效应不明显.   相似文献
