The rotating flow in the presence of a magnetic field is a problem belonging to hydromagnetics and deserves to be more widely studied than it has been to date. In the non‐linear regime the literature is scarce. We develop the governing equations for the unsteady hydromagnetic rotating flow of a fourth‐order fluid past a porous plate. The steady flow is governed by a boundary value problem in which the order of differential equations is more than the number of available boundary conditions. It is shown that by augmenting the boundary conditions based on asymptotic structures at infinity it is possible to obtain numerical solutions of the nonlinear hydromagnetic equations. Effects of uniform suction or blowing past the porous plate, exerted magnetic field and rotation on the flow phenomena, especially on the boundary layer structure near the plate, are numerically analysed and discussed. The flow behaviours of the Newtonian fluid and second‐, third‐ and fourth‐order non‐Newtonian fluids are compared for the special flow problem, respectively. A solution in the closed form has been obtained for the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid of small electrical conductivity near an infinite insulated porous flat plate oscillating harmonically in its own plane in the presence of a transverse magnetic field of uniform strength fixed relative to the fluid. Small uniform suction has been imposed along the surface of the plate. This is a generalisation of the result of Ong and Nicholls for the hydromagnetic flow near an oscillating solid flat plate.  相似文献

This paper deals with the steady forced flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid against a porous rotating disk when a uniform magnetic field acts perpendicular to the disk surface. For small suction the equations of motion are integrated numerically by Kármán-Pohlhausen method, but for large suction a series solution in the inverse powers of the suction parameter is obtained. The effects of disk porosity and magnetic field on the various flow parameters are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The problem dealing with the two-dimensional flow of an incompressible viscoelastic Maxwell fluid past an infinite porous plate is investigated. It is assumed that the suction velocity is normal to the plate and oscillates about a mean value. The external free-stream velocity varies periodically in time. The resulting differential equation subject to the relevant boundary and initial conditions is numerically solved by means of a numerical technique, in which a coordinate transformation is employed to transform the semi-infinite physical space to a bounded computational domain. The effects of various values of the emerging parameters, e.g. the elasticity parameter, the oscillation amplitude and frequency of the external flow and the suction velocity, on the time series of velocity, especially on the boundary-layer structure near the plate, are discussed. The nature of the shear stress engendered due to the flow is also investigated.  相似文献

The two-dimensional unsteady flow of a conducting viscous incompressible fluid past, an infinite flat plate with uniform suction, is considered in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. For a constant time, it is shown that for a given Hartmann numbera, as the cross Reynolds number β (corresponding to the suction velocity of the plate) increases, the velocity at any point of the fluid decreases and the skin friction at the plate increases. The results also hold good for a given β, asa increases if the magnetic lines of force are fixed relative to the fluid and are just opposite for the magnetic lines of force fixed relative to the plate.  相似文献

The purpose of this work is to study the effect of transverse sinusoidal suction velocity on the flow and mass transfer on free convective oscillatory viscous and optically thin grey fluid over a porous vertical plate in the presence of radiation. The flow becomes three-dimensional due to the variation of suction velocity in the transverse direction. Analytical expressions for velocity and temperature fields are obtained using the perturbation technique. The governing equations has been transformed to ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained for different values of radiation parameter, Grashof number and Schmidt number. It is found that non-dimensional velocity decreases with increase of radiation parameter, increases with increase of Grashof number, decreases with increase of Schmidt number and non-dimensional temperature decreases with the increase of radiation parameter.  相似文献

In this paper we have considered the study of boundary layer flow past a stretching plate in visco-elastic fluid (Walters' liquid B Model).The solution of boundary layer equation of motion past a stretching plate is obtained by using similarity parameter method. The influence of visco-elastic parameterk 0 * on the flow velocity is investigated.

Der Einfluß des viskoelastischen Parametersk 0 * auf die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit wird untersucht.

Summary The effects of transverse gravity on steady flow past a split plate are investigated, by adopting the wake model proposed in the preceding paper (I). The existence and uniqueness of the solution as well as the convergence of an iteration process involving the free streamlines are proved for large Froude numbers by means of the Banach contraction mapping principle using Lipschitz norms.

The equations of a polar fluid of hydromagnetic fluctuating through a porous medium are cast into matrix form using the state space and Laplace transform techniques the resulting formlation is applied to a variety of problems. The solution to a problem of an electrically conducting polar fluid in the presence of a transverse magnetic field and to a probem for the flow between two parallel fixed plates is obtained. The inversion of the Laplace transforms, is carried out using a numerical approach. Numerical results for the velocity, angular velocity distribution and the induced magnetic field are given and illustrated graphically for each problems.  相似文献

The effects of harmonic oscillations of amplitude in the magnitude of the magnetic field on the steady boundary layer flowO( 2) due to a uniform free stream past a semi-infinite magnetized flat plate have been discussed. It is observed that the magnetic field distribution does not affect the surface current distribution.
Zusammenfassung Die Effekte einer harmonischen Schwingung der Amplitude im Betrag des Magnetfeldes auf die Grenzschicht entlang einer halb-unendlichen magnetischen Platte in gleichförmiger Strömung wird diskutiert. Man findet, daß die magnetische Feldverteilung die Oberflächenströme nicht beeinflußt.

Summary A simple finite wake model for free streamline flow past a split plate is considered. An inverse problem is solved analytically by Riemann-Hilbert techniques. Numerical results for drag/lift are compared with experimental data for spoilers and split flaps and with theoretical results by Elcrat & Wentz (1983). Wakes of zero drag and wake overpressure are discussed.

Si risolve analiticamente un problema inverso mediante tecniche alla Riemann-Hilbert, e si confrontano i risultati numerici per la resistenza e la portanza con dati sperimentali e teorici dovuti a Elcrat & Wentz (1983). Viene messa in luce la presenza di scie con resistenza nulla e con sovrapressione.

A new analytic approximate technique for addressing nonlinear problems, namely the Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM), is proposed and used in an application to the steady flow of a fourth-grade fluid. This approach does not depend upon any small/large parameters. This method provides us with a convenient way to control the convergence of approximation series and adjust convergence regions when necessary. The series solution is developed and the recurrence relations are given explicitly. The results reveal that the proposed method is effective and easy to use.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss similarity reductions for problems of magnetic field effects on free convection flow of a nanofluid past a semi-infinite vertical flat plate. The application of a one-parameter group reduces the number of independent variables by 1, and consequently the governing partial differential equation with the auxiliary conditions to an ordinary differential equation with the appropriate corresponding conditions. The differential equations obtained are solved numerically and the effects of the parameters governing the problem are discussed. Different kinds of nanoparticles were tested.  相似文献

This article investigates the analytic solution for the flow of a third grade fluid past an infinite porous plate. The method of parameter differentiation is used to linearized the governing flow equation. The solution of the obtained linear equation is developed by differential transform method in combination with the method of superposition. The obtained results are compared with existing results in the literature and an excellent agreement is found. A vorticity/stream function formulation is used to obtain a numerical simulation of steady two-dimensional flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past a normal flat plate for a range of Reynolds numbers. A method of Fornberg [J. Fluid Mech. 98, 819 (1980)] is used to determine upstream and downstream boundary conditions on the stream function. Special care is taken in the neighbourhood of the singularities in vorticity at the plate edges and this is very important because any errors introduced are swept downstream and severely affect such quantities as the length and width of the attached eddies. The computed results are compared with those of a laboratory experiment in which a plane strip is drawn through water and ethylene glycol for the range of Reynolds numbers for which the experimental flow is stable.  相似文献

A solution is given for the transient response for laminar boundary layer flow past a flat plate to a step-function change in suction velocity. An arbitrary but constant suction velocity normal to the plate is allowed prior to step-change. Using the Laplace transform technique the solutions for the unsteady velocity profile and shear stress are obtained and are graphically sketched when the suction velocity doubles in the stepchange. The results show clear evidence of boundary-layer contraction when suction velocity is increased.  相似文献
