<正>Synergistic effects of layered double hydroxide(LDH) with intumescent flame retardanct(IFR) of phosphorus-nitrogen (NP) compound in the polypropylene/ethylene-propylene-diene/IFR/LDH(PP/EPDM/IFR/LDH) nanocomposites and related properties were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),limiting oxygen index(LOI),UL-94 test, cone calorimeter test(CCT) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA).The XRD and TEM results show that the intercalated and/or exfoliated nanocomposites can be obtained by direct melt-intercalation of PP/EPDM into modified LDH and that LDH can promote the IFR additive NP to disperse more homogeneously in the polymer matrix. The SEM results provide positive evidence that more compact charred layers can be obtained from the PP/EPDM/NP/LDH sample than those from the PP/EPDM/LDH and PP/EPDM/NP samples during burning. The LOI and UL-94 rating tests show that the synergetic effects of LDH with NP can effectively increase the flame retardant properties of the PP/EPDM/NP/LDH samples. The data from the CCT and TGA tests indicate that the PP/EPDM/NP/LDH samples apparently decrease the HRR and MLR values and thus enhance the flame retardant properties and have better thermal stability than the PP/EPDM/LDH and PP/EPDM/NP samples.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity and impact strength of polypropylene(PP)/EPDM/carbon black ternary composites were investigated in this paper. Two processing methods were employed to prepare these ternary composites. One was called one‐step processing method, in which the elastomer and the filler directly melt blended with PP matrix. Another one was called two‐step processing method, in which the elastomer and the filler were mixed first, and then melt blended with pure PP. To get an optimal phase morphology that favors the electrical conductivity and impact strength, controlling the distribution of CB in PP/EPDM blend was a crucial factor. Thus the interfacial tension and the work of adhesion were first calculated based on the measurement of contact angle, and the results showed that CB tended to be accumulated around EPDM phases to form filler‐network structure. Expectably, the filler‐network structure was observed in PP/EPDM/CB(80/20/3) composite prepared by two‐step processing method. The formation of this filler‐network structure decreased the percolation threshold of CB particles in polymer matrix, and the electrical conductivity as well as Izod impact strength of the composite increased dramatically. This work provided a new way to prepare polymer composites with both improved conductivity and impact strength. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An intumescent flame retardant system composed of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and pentaerythritol (PER) was used for flame retarding ethylene–propylene–diene‐modified elastomer (EPDM)/polypropylene (PP) blends. Cerium phosphate (CeP) was synthesized and the effect on flame retardancy and thermal stability of EPDM/PP composites based on intumescent flame retardant (IFR) were studied by limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94, and thermogravimetic analysis (TGA), respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) were used to analyze the morphological structure and the component of the residue chars formed from the EPDM/PP composites, and the mechanical properties of the materials were also studied. The addition of CeP to the EPDM/PP/APP/PER composites gives better flame retardancy than that of EPDM/PP/APP/PER composites. TGA and RT‐FTIR studies indicated that an interaction occurs among APP, PER, and EPDM/PP. The incorporation of CeP improved the mechanical properties of the materials. Physically and dynamically vulcanized (TPV) mixtures of polypropylene (PP) and ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) are prepared by extrusion in order to improve the impact resistance of PP. To enhance the chemical compatibility and provide better interaction between the PP and EPDM in the physical mixtures, both polymers are modified with maleic anhydride (MAH) in solution using xylene as solvent and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as initiator. The qualitative and quantitative determination of the degree of grafting is study by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and varying the amount of DCP and/or amount of MAH in order to determine the optimum amounts to obtain the highest degree of grafting. The effect of the relation of PP/EPDM, the amount of reinforcement filler and mix rate are studied for modified polymer mixtures (PP-g-MAH/EPDM-g-MAH). For the TPV of PP/EPDM the effects of amount and triallylisocyanurate (TAC) as coupling agent in presence of different amounts of DCP are studied. The physical mixtures of modified polymers prepared with a PP/EPDM ratio of 80/20 and the TPVs blends prepared with a PP/EPDM ratio of 70/30 and containing 15% filler at 60 rpm show the highest impact resistance. The impact resistance, melt flow index and hardness of the different mixtures are measured to determine their possible applications to prepare front panels and bumpers for automobiles by injection molding.  相似文献

As the most successful commercialized thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), polypropylene (PP)/ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) TPVs exhibit poor oil resistance. In this work, we prepared PP/EPDM/butadiene acrylonitrile rubber (NBR) ternary TPVs with good oil resistance using core‐shell dynamic vulcanization. According to the theoretical analysis of the spreading coefficient and the transmission electron microscopy results, the rubber phases exhibited a special core‐shell structure, in which the cross‐linkedNBR‐core was encapsulated by the EPDM‐shell. The core‐shell structure effectively improved the interfacial compatibility between PP and NBR phase as the EPDM‐shell could avoid the direct contact of them, thus improving the mechanical properties of the TPVs. For example, the PP/EPDM/NBR (40/30/30) ternary TPV showed enhanced tensile strength of 12.57 MPa, compared with 10.71 MPa of PP/EPDM (40/60) TPV and 11.11 MPa of PP/NBR (40/60) TPV, respectively. Moreover, the oil resistance of the TPVs was also improved. Compared with PP/EPDM TPV, the change rates in mass, volume, tensile strength and elongation at break of PP/EPDM/NBR TPV after oil immersion decreased by 42.18%, 48.69%, 52.68% and 28.77%, respectively.  相似文献

An in‐depth study of the surface characteristics of novel conductive carbon black Ensaco 350G has been carried out using XPS and high‐resolution vacuum FTIR. Both methods showed the existence of oxygen containing surface groups like carboxyls, carbonyls, etc. Dynamic mechanical analysis and dielectric relaxation spectra of conductive carbon black (Ensaco 350G) reinforced microcellular EPDM composites were used to study the relaxation behavior as a function of temperature (?90 to +100°C) and frequency (100–106 Hz). The effect of filler and blowing agent loadings on dynamic mechanical and dielectric relaxation characteristics has been investigated. The effect of filler and blowing agent loadings on glass transition temperature was marginal for all the composites (Tg value was in the range of ?37 to ?32°C), which has been explained on the basis of relaxation dynamics of polymer chains in the vicinity of fillers. The variation in the real and imaginary parts of the complex impedance with frequency has been studied as a function of filler and blowing agent loading. Additionally, an in‐depth study of the surface characteristics of the filler using XPS, high‐resolution vacuum FTIR and Raman spectra is also reported. Filled EPDM materials have been processed and aged by gamma radiation at ambient temperature and at 80 °C to study the influence of the fillers presence in the material degradation. The acceleration of the polymer degradation by the ATH fillers, evidenced when irradiation is performed at 25 °C, is also effective at 80 °C. In addition, in the case of silica‐filled EPDM, the creation of strong filler‐matrix bonds, already reported for irradiation at 25 °C, is also thermally activated; this enables to this material to keep its integrity at high irradiation dose, whereas the irradiated ATH‐filled EPDM is so degraded that it flows. Thus, the introduction of fillers in the polymer has an impact on its resistance to irradiation, whatever the temperature at which the irradiation is performed. Moreover, the consequences of the degradation on the evolution of the mechanical properties of the composite are very dependent on the filler nature. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Magnesium hydroxide (MH) flame retardant dynamic vulcanized ethylene‐propylene‐diene terpolymer (EPDM)/polypropylene (PP) thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) were prepared by a twin‐screw extruder. Influences of MH on their morphology, mechanical properties, flammability, and crystallization behavior have been investigated. Static tensile measurements exhibited that TPVs have higher mechanical properties than un‐vulcanized EPDM/PP/MH blends (UVBs). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies showed that the formation of the larger‐size “micro‐encapsulated structure” where the MH aggregates were covered with a cross‐linked rubber phase improved the interaction between MH and polymer matrix. Results of limiting oxygen index (LOI) and microscale combustion calorimetry (MCC) confirmed that TPVs had superior fire‐resistant properties to UVBs. SEM images showed that more uniform and compact charred layers were generated in TPVs. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicated that the crystallization behavior of the flame retardant TPVs changed marginally with increase in MH content.

Polymer nanodielectrics render a great material platform for exhibiting the intrinsic nature of incorporated particles, particularly semiconducting types, and their interfaces with the polymer matrix. Incorporating the oxide fillers with higher loading percentages (>40 vol%) encounters particular challenges in terms of dispersion, homogeneous distribution, and porosity from the process. This work investigated the dielectric loss and electrical conduction behaviors of composites containing semiconducting ZnO varistor particles of various concentrations using the epoxy impregnation method. The ZnO varistor particles increased the dielectric permittivity, loss, and electrical conductivity of the epoxy composites into three different regimes (0–50 vol%, 50–70 vol%, 70–100 vol%), particularly under an electric bias field or at higher temperatures. For lower loading fractions below 50 vol%, the dielectric responses are dominated by the insulating epoxy matrix. When loading fractions are between 50 and 70 vol%, the dielectric and electric responses are mostly associated with the semiconducting interfaces of ZnO varistor particles and ZnO–epoxy. At above 70 vol%, the apparent increase in the dielectric loss and conductivity is primarily associated with the conducting ZnO core forming the interconnected channels of electric conduction. The foam-agent-assisted ZnO varistor particle framework appears to be a better way of fabricating composites of filler loading above 80 vol%. A physical model using an equivalent capacitor, diode, and resistor in the epoxy composites was proposed to explain the different property behaviors.  相似文献

Epoxy composites containing particulate fillers‐fused silica, glass powder, and mineral silica were investigated to be used as substrate materials in electronic packaging application. The content of fillers were varied between 0 and 40 vol%. The effects of the fillers on the thermal properties—thermal stability, thermal expansion and dynamic mechanical properties of the epoxy composites were studied, and it was found that fused silica, glass powder, and mineral silica increase the thermal stability and dynamic thermal mechanical properties and reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The lowest CTE value was observed at a fused silica content of 40 vol% for the epoxy composites, which was traced to the effect of its nature of low intrinsic CTE value of the fillers. The mechanical properties of the epoxy composites were determined in both flexural and single‐edge notch (SEN‐T) fracture toughness properties. Highest flexural strength, stiffness, and toughness values were observed at fillers content of 40 vol% for all the filled epoxy composites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrograph showed poor filler–matrix interaction in glass powder filled epoxy composites at 40 vol%. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

For a more complete understanding of the toughening mechanism of polypropylene (PP)/ethylene‐propylene‐diene rubber (EPDM) blends, dynamic packing injection molding was used to control the phase morphology and rubber particle orientation in the matrix. The relative impact strength of the blends increased at low EPDM contents, and then a definite ductile–brittle (D–B) transition was observed when the EPDM content reached 25 wt %, at which point blends should fail in the ductile mode with conventional molding. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the shear‐induced crystal structure, morphology, orientation, and phase separation of the blends. WAXD results showed that the observed D–B transition took place mainly for a constant crystal structure (α form). Also, no remarkable changes in the crystallinity and melting point of PP were observed by DSC. The highly oriented and elongated rubber particles were seen via SEM at high EPDM contents. Our results suggest that Wu's criterion is no longer valid when dispersed rubber particles are elongated and oriented. The possible fracture mechanism is discussed on the basis of the stress concentration in a filler‐dispersed matrix. It can be concluded that not only the interparticle distance but also the stress fields around individual particles play an important role in polymer toughening. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Vanadium‐containing saponite samples were synthesized in a one‐pot synthetic procedure with the aim of preparing samples for potential application as fillers for polymeric composites. These vanadium‐modified materials were prepared from an acid support by adopting a synthetic strategy that allowed us to introduce isolated structural V species (H/V‐SAP). The physicochemical properties of these materials were investigated by XRD analysis and by DR‐UV/Vis and FTIR spectroscopy of CO that was adsorbed at 100 K; these data were compared to those of a V‐modified saponite material that did not contain any Brønsted acid sites (Na/V‐SAP). The surface‐acid properties of both samples (together with the fully acidic H‐SAP material and the Na‐SAP solid) were studied in the catalytic isomerization of α‐pinene oxide. The V‐containing solids were tested in the oxidative dehydrogenation reaction of propene to evaluate their potential use as flame‐retardant fillers for polymer composites. The effect of tuning the presence of Lewis/Brønsted acid sites was carefully studied. The V‐containing saponite sample that contained a marked presence of Brønsted acid sites showed the most interesting performance in the oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) reactions because they produced coke, even at 773 K. The catalytic data presented herein indicate that the H/V‐SAP material is potentially active as a flame‐retardant filler.  相似文献

In this study, relatively large amounts of polypropylene (PP), ethylene‐propylene‐diene (EPDM), and multi‐walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) were melt‐mixed with and without DCP. Dynamically vulcanized PP/EPDM (TPV)/MWCNT nanocomposites were prepared by two methods: the MWCNTs were added either before or after the dynamic vulcanization of the blends. The effects of composition, rotor speed, and dynamic vulcanization on their surface resistivity were investigated. The surface resistivity of uncross‐linked PP/EPDM/MWCNT nanocomposites increases with increasing the content of EPDM. At PP/EPDM (70/30 wt%) nanocomposite with 1.5 phr MWCNT, slightly lower surface resistivity is obtained by increasing the rotor speed during mixing. However, for PP/EPDM (50/50 wt%) and PP/EPDM (30/70 wt%) nanocomposites, surface resistivity decreases with increasing the rotor speed from 30 to 60 rpm. But further increase in rotor speed (90 rpm) leads to an increase of surface resistivity. When the MWCNTs were added after the dynamic vulcanization of the blends, the surface resistivity of TPV70/MWCNTnanocomposite is lower than that of uncross‐linked PP/EPDM/MWCNT nanocomposite. However, when the MWCNTs were added before the dynamic vulcanization of the blends, the surface resistivity of TPV70/MWCNT nanocomposite is >1012 Ω/square. Layered silicate/natural rubber composites were prepared by direct polymer melt intercalation. Na‐montmorillonite Kunipia‐F and its organic derivates (organo‐clays) prepared by ion exchange were used as clay fillers. Silica (SiO2) Ultrasil VN3, a filler commonly used in the rubber industry, was used in combination with clay fillers. The effect of clay or organo‐clay loading from 1 up to 10 phr without (0 phr) or with silica (15 phr) showed significant improvement of the tensile properties (stress at break, strain at break and modulus M100). Modification of montmorillonite by three alkylammonium cations with the same length of alkylammonium chain (18 carbons) and different structure resulted in altered reinforcing and plasticizing effects of the filler in composites with rubber matrix. The ferrocene‐based polymer (PDPFDE) accompanied with traditional intumescent flame retardant (IFR) system (ammonium polyphosphate (APP)/pentaerythritol (PER) = 3/1, mass ratio) has been used as additive flame retardant in polypropylene (PP), aiming to lower the total loading amount. The thermal stability and fire retardant properties were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical combustion (UL‐94), and cone calorimetry (CONE). The fire retardant mechanism was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the PP1 with 25 wt% IFR only passed the UL‐94 V‐1 rating, but the PP6 loaded by 0.5 wt% PDPFDE and 22.5 wt% IFR possessed an LOI value of 28.5% and passed the UL‐94 V‐0 rating; the peak heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) are decreased by 63% and 43%, respectively, compared with pure PP. In addition, the char residue of PP6 manifested a very compact and smooth surface, indicating a more effective barrier layer. Meanwhile, it was interesting that the addition of PDPFDE evidently improved the impact strength and elongation at break of PP/IFR composites.  相似文献

Thermo‐mechanically durable industrial polymer nanocomposites have great demand as structural components. In this work, highly competent filler design is processed via nano‐modified of micronic SiO2/Al2O3 particulate ceramics and studied its influence on the rheology, glass transition temperature, composite microstructure, thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, micro hardness, and tribology properties. Composites were fabricated with different proportions of nano‐modified micro‐composite fillers in epoxy matrix at as much possible filler loadings. Results revealed that nano‐modified SiO2/Al2O3 micro‐composite fillers enhanced inter‐particle network and offer benefits like homogeneous microstructures and increased thermal conductivity. Epoxy composites attained thermal conductivity of 0.8 W/mK at 46% filler loading. Mechanical strength and bulk hardness were reached to higher values on the incorporation of nano‐modified fillers. Tribology study revealed an increased specific wear rate and decreased friction coefficient in such fillers. The study is significant in a way that the design of nano‐modified mixed‐matrix micro‐composite fillers are effective where a high loading is much easier, which is critical for achieving desired thermal and mechanical properties for any engineering applications. The effects of filler loading and a new silane coupling agent 3‐octanoylthio‐1‐ propyltriethoxysilane (NXT silane) on the polymer‐filler interaction and mechanical properties of silica‐filled and carbon black‐filled natural rubber (NR) compounds were studied. Silica (high dispersion silica7000GR, VN2, and VN3) and carbon black (N330) were used as the fillers, and the loading range was from 0 to 50 phr. The loading of NXT silane was from 0 to 6 phr. Experimental results show that the maximum and minimum torques of silica and carbon black‐filled NR increase with increasing filler loading. With increasing filler loading, the scorch time and optimum cure time decrease for carbon black‐filled NR, but increase for silica‐filled NR. The minimum torque, scorch time, and optimum cure time decrease because of the presence of NXT silane. For the carbon black and silica‐filled NR, the tensile strength and elongation at break have maximum values, but the hardness, M300, M100, and tear strength keep increasing with filler loading. The mechanical properties of silica‐filled NR were improved in the presence of NXT silane. With increasing filler loading, the storage modulus of filled NR increases, but the loss factor decreases. Carbon black shows the strongest polymer‐filler interaction, followed by VN3, 7000GR, and VN2. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 43: 573–584, 2005  相似文献

The effect of oil and curing agent content on the mechanical behavior of thermoplastic vulcanizates, based on a polypropylene (PP) and ethylene‐propylene‐diene copolymer (EPDM), was investigated. Mechanical properties such as Young's modulus, stress at 100% elongation and ultimate stress were investigated as a function of blends' composition and phase morphology. Experimental studies show that the Young's modulus of the vulcanizates depends on both PP/EPDM ratio and oil content in the blends; both ultimate strength and stress at 100% elongation increase with curing agent content.  相似文献

Derived from a strategically chosen hexafluorinated dicarboxylate linker aimed at the designed synthesis of a superhydrophobic metal–organic framework (MOF), the fluorine‐rich nanospace of a water‐stable MOF ( UHMOF‐100 ) exhibits excellent water‐repellent features. It registered the highest water contact angle (≈176°) in the MOF domain, marking the first example of an ultrahydrophobic MOF. Various experimental and theoretical studies reinforce its distinctive water‐repellent characteristics, and the conjugation of superoleophilicity and unparalleled hydrophobicity of a MOF material has been coherently exploited to achieve real‐time oil/water separation in recyclable membrane form, with significant absorption capacity performance. This is also the first report of an oil/water separating fluorinated ultrahydrophobic MOF‐based membrane material, with potential promise for tackling marine oil spillages.  相似文献
