A series of metal‐free benzotriazole‐based dipolar dyes have been developed as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Different heteroaromatic rings such as furan, thiophene, and selenophene, were used in combination with benzotriazole as the conjugated spacer group. Light harvesting, charge recombination, and electron injection of the cells fabricated are affected by the heteroaromatic ring used in the spacer. The DSSC with the thiophene‐containing dye has the highest conversion efficiency of 6.20 %, which reaches 85 % of the standard cell based on N719.  相似文献

Four new type II organic dyes with D‐π‐A structure (donor‐π‐conjugated‐acceptor) and two typical type II sensitizers based on catechol as reference dyes are synthesized and applied in dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The four dyes can be adsorbed on TiO2 through hydroxyl group directly. Electron injection can occur not only through the anchoring group (hydroxyl group) but also through the electron‐withdrawing group (? CN) located close to the semiconductor surface. Experimental results show that the type II sensitizers with a D‐π‐A system obviously outperform the typical type II sensitizers providing much higher conversion efficiency due to the strong electronic push‐pull effect. Among these dyes, LS223 gives the best solar energy conversion efficiency of 3.6%, with Jsc=7.3 mA·cm?2, Voc=0.69 V, FF=0.71, the maximum IPCE value reaches 74.9%.  相似文献

A series of porphyrin sensitizers that featured two electron‐donating groups and dual anchoring groups that were connected through a porphine π‐bridging unit have been synthesized and successfully applied in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The presence of electron‐donating groups had a significant influence on their spectroscopic, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties. Overall, the dual anchoring groups gave tunable electronic properties and stronger attachment to TiO2. These new dyes were readily synthesized in a minimum number of steps in gram‐scale quantities. Optical and electrochemical data confirmed the advantages of these dyes for use as sensitizers in DSSCs. Porphyrins with electron‐donating amino moieties provided improved charge separation and better charge‐injection efficiencies for the studied dual‐push–pull dyes. Attenuated total reflectance–Fourier‐transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the porphyrin dyes on TiO2 suggest that both p‐carboxyphenyl groups are attached onto TiO2, thereby resulting in strong attachment. Among these dyes, cis-Zn2BC2A , with two electron‐donating 3,6‐ditertbutyl‐phenyl‐carbazole groups and dual‐anchoring p‐carboxyphenyl groups, showed the highest efficiency of 4.07 %, with JSC=9.81 mA cm?2, VOC=0.63 V, and FF=66 %. Our results also indicated a better photostability of the studied dual‐anchored sensitizers compared to their mono‐anchored analogues under identical conditions. These results provide insight into the developments of a new generation of high‐efficiency and thermally stable porphyrin sensitizers.  相似文献

Two donor–acceptor molecular tweezers incorporating the 10‐(1,3‐dithiol‐2‐ylidene)anthracene unit as donor group and two cyanoacrylic units as accepting/anchoring groups are reported as metal‐free sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells. By changing the phenyl spacer with 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) units, the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer is red‐shifted with a corresponding increase in the molar absorptivity. Density functional calculations confirmed the intramolecular charge‐transfer nature of the lowest‐energy absorption bands. The new dyes are highly distorted from planarity and are bound to the TiO2 surface through the two anchoring groups in a unidentate binding form. A power‐conversion efficiency of 3.7 % was obtained with a volatile CH3CN‐based electrolyte, under air mass 1.5 global sunlight. Photovoltage decay transients and ATR‐FTIR measurements allowed us to understand the photovoltaic performance, as well as the surface binding, of these new sensitizers.  相似文献

Two D–π‐A′–A regioisomers (A‐IDT‐D and D‐IDT‐A) featuring 4,4′‐di‐p‐tolyl‐4 H‐indeno[1,2‐b]‐thiophene as a π linker (π) between the diarylamino donor (D) and the pyrimidine–cyanoacrylic acid acceptor (A′–A) have been successfully synthesized and characterized as efficient sensitizers for the dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The different arrangements of the D and A′–A blocks on the unsymmetrical indenothiophene (IDT) core render the dipole of IDT being along (A‐IDT‐D) or opposite (D‐IDT‐A) to the direction of intramolecular (donor‐to‐acceptor) charge transfer, and thus induce variations in the physical properties. The experimental observations correlated well with the theoretical analyses, clearly revealing the trade‐off between the molar extinction coefficient (ε) and the S0→S1 transition energy. As a result, a superior ε value was observed for D‐IDT‐A, whereas a bathochromic shift in the absorption occurred in A‐IDT‐D. The larger ε value of D‐IDT‐A together with its more favorable energy level relative to TiO2 led to a higher power conversion efficiency of 7.41 % for the D‐IDT‐A‐based DSSC, retaining approximately 95 % of the N719‐based DSSC efficiency. This work manifests the clear structure–property relationship for the case of donor and acceptor components being connected by an unsymmetrical π linker and provides insights for molecular engineering of organic sensitizers.  相似文献

In an attempt to shed light on how the addition of a benzothiadiazole (BTD) moiety influences the properties of dyes, a series of newly designed triphenylamine‐based sensitizers incorporating a BTD unit as an additional electron‐withdrawing group in a specific donor–acceptor–π‐acceptor architecture has been investigated. We found that different positions of the BTD unit provided significantly different responses for light absorption. Among these, it was established that the further the BTD unit is away from the donor part, the broader the absorption spectra, which is an observation that can be applied to improve light‐harvesting ability. However, when the BTD unit is connected to the anchoring group a faster, unfavorable charge recombination takes place; therefore, a thiophene unit was inserted between these two acceptors, providing redshifted absorption spectra as well as blocking unfavorable charge recombination. The results of our calculations provide valuable information and illustrate the potential benefits of using computation‐aided sensitizer design prior to further experimental synthesis.  相似文献

A new series of benzimidazole ( BIm )‐based dyes ( SC32 and SC33 ) and pyridoimidazole‐( PIm ) based dyes ( SC35, SC36N and SC36 ) were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The N‐substituent and C‐substituent at the BIm and PIm cores were found to be the dominating factor in determining the electronic properties of the dyes and their DSSCs performance. The efficiency of BIm ‐based dyes ( SC35 and SC36 ) was found to be higher than that of the PIm ‐based dyes ( SC32 and SC33 ) due to better light harvesting. The C‐substituents in SC36 , a 4‐hexylloxybenzene and a hexyl chain, are beneficial to dark current suppression, and hence SC36 achieves the best efficiency of 7.38 % (≈85 % of N719 ). The two BIm dyes have better cell efficiencies than their congeners with a bithiophene entity between the BIm and the anchor due to better light harvesting of the former.  相似文献

Organic solar cells based on semiconducting polymers and small molecules have attracted considerable attention in the last two decades. Moreover, the power conversion efficiencies for solution‐processed solar cells containing A–π–D–π–A‐type small molecules and fullerenes have reached 11%. However, the method for designing high‐performance, photovoltaic small molecules still remains unclear. In this review, recent studies on A–π–D–π–A electron‐donating small molecules for organic solar cells are introduced. Moreover, the relationships between molecular properties and device performances are summarized, from which inspiration for the future design of high performance organic solar cells may be obtained.  相似文献

Dipolar metal‐free sensitizers (D‐π‐A; D=donor, π=conjugated bridge, A=acceptor) consisting of a dithiafulvalene (DTF) unit as the electron donor, a benzene, thiophene, or fluorene moiety as the conjugated spacer, and 2‐cyanoacrylic acid as the electron acceptor have been synthesized. Dimeric congeners of these dyes, (D‐π‐A)2, were also synthesized through iodine‐induced dimerization of an appropriate DTF‐containing segment. Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with the new dyes as the sensitizers have cell efficiencies that range from 2.11 to 5.24 %. In addition to better light harvesting, more effective suppression of the dark current than the D‐π‐A dyes is possible with the (D‐π‐A)2 dyes.  相似文献

Aqueous dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are attractive due to their sustainability, the use of water as a safe solvent for the redox mediators, and their possible applications in photoelectrochemical water splitting. However, the higher tendency of dye leaching by water and the lower wettability of dye molecules are two major obstacles that need to be tackled for future applications of aqueous DSSCs. Sensitizers designed for aqueous DSSCs are discussed based on their functions, such as modification of the molecular skeleton and the anchoring group for better stability against dye leaching by water, and the incorporation of hydrophilic entities into the dye molecule or the addition of a surfactant to the system to increase the wettability of the dye for more facile dye regeneration. Surface treatment of the photoanode to deter dye leaching or improve the wettability of the dye molecule is also discussed. Redox mediators designed for aqueous DSSCs are also discussed. The review also includes quantum‐dot‐sensitized solar cells, with a focus on improvements in QD loading and suppression of interfacial charge recombination at the photoanode.  相似文献

We have designed and synthesized highly efficient organic sensitizers with a planar thienothiophene–vinylene–thienothiophene linker. Under standard global AM 1.5 solar conditions, the JK‐113 ‐sensitized cell gave a short circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 17.61 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.71 V, and a fill factor (FF) of 72 %, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency (η) of 9.1 %. The incident monochromatic photo‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) of JK‐113 exceeds 80 % over the spectral region from 400 to 640 nm, reaching its maximum of 93 % at 475 nm. The band tails off toward 770 nm, contributing to the broad spectral light harvesting. Solar‐cell devices based on the sensitizer JK‐113 in conjunction with a volatile electrolyte and a solvent‐free ionic liquid electrolyte gave high conversion efficiencies of 9.1 % and 7.9 %, respectively. The JK‐113 ‐based solar cell fabricated using a solvent‐free ionic liquid electrolyte showed excellent stability under light soaking at 60 °C for 1000 h.  相似文献

We report here the synthesis and electrochemical and photophysical properties of a series of easily prepared dipolar organic dyes and their application in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For the six organic dyes, the molecular structures comprised a triphenylamine group as an electron donor, a cyanoacrylic acid as an electron acceptor, and an electron‐deficient diphenylquinoxaline moiety integrated in the π‐conjugated spacer between the electron donor and acceptor moieties. The incorporation of the electron‐deficient diphenylquinoxaline moiety effectively reduces the energy gap of the dyes and broadly extends the spectral coverage. DSSCs based on dye 6 produced the best overall cell performance of 7.35 %, which translates to approximately 79 % of the intrinsic efficiency of the DSSCs based on the standard N719 dye under identical experimental conditions. The high performance of DSSCs based on dye 6 among the six dyes explored is attributed to the combined effects of high dye loading on a TiO2 surface, rapid dye regeneration, and effective retardation of charge recombination.  相似文献

The device performance of sensitizer‐architecture solar cells based on a CuSbS2 light sensitizer is presented. The device consists of F‐doped SnO2 substrate/TiO2 blocking layer/mesoporous TiO2/CuSbS2/hole‐transporting material/Au electrode. The CuSbS2 was deposited by repeated cycles of spin coating of a Cu‐Sb‐thiourea complex solution and thermal decomposition, followed by annealing in Ar at 500 °C. Poly(2,6‐(4,4‐bis‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐4H‐cyclopenta[2,1‐b;3,4‐b′]dithiophene)‐alt‐4,7(2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole)) (PCPDTBT) was used as the hole‐transporting material. The best‐performing cell exhibited a 3.1 % device efficiency, with a short‐circuit current density of 21.5 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit voltage of 304 mV, and a fill factor of 46.8 %.  相似文献

Introducing ethynylene linkages in a conjugated molecule can deepen the HOMO level, decrease the steric constraints and better delocalize the π electrons and so on, which are beneficial for organic solar cells. Furthermore, the typical method of introducing acetylene linkages by Sonogashira reactions can avoid the usage of toxic stannyl intermediates and potentially dangerous lithiation reactions. In this study, two simple small molecules BEDPP and NEDPP are designed and synthesized, in which two diketopyrrolopyrrole units are symmetrically connected to benzene and naphthalene cores, respectively, via acetylene linkages. And the BHJ (Bulk Heterojunction) solar cells based on BEDPP and NEDPP without using solvent additive and without any post‐treatment for the active layers provide us power conversion efficiencies of 1.48% and 2.31% with remarkably high open circuit voltages up to 0.90 and 0.98 V, respectively.  相似文献

We have synthesized and characterized four organic dyes ( 9 , 10 , H1 , H2 ) based on a 3,6‐disubstituted carbazole donor as sensitizers in dye‐sensitized solar cells. These dyes have high molar extinction coefficients and energy levels suitable for electron transfer from an electrolyte to nanocrystalline TiO2 particles. Under standard air mass 1.5 global (AM 1.5 G) solar irradiation, a device using dye H4 exhibits a short‐circuit current density (Jsc) of 13.7 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.68 V, a fill factor (FF) of 0.70, and a calculated efficiency of 6.52 %. This performance is comparable to that of a reference cell based on N719 (7.30 %) under the same conditions. After 1000 hours of visible‐light soaking at 60 °C, the overall efficiency remained at 95 % of the initial value.  相似文献

The theoretical calculations are used to find that D–π–A–π–A style conjugated polymer PC‐TBTBT is more efficient for solar cells application than the D–π–A analog PC‐TBT because the D–π–A–π–A structure has a narrower band gap and higher molar absorption coefficient and redshift spectrum. Motivated by the theoretical prediction, 5,6‐bis(octyloxy)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole and 2,7‐carbazole are adopted to synthesize the D–π–A–π–A style PC‐TBTBT (Mw = 31.1 kDa) and D–π–A analog PC‐TBT (Mw = 87.5 kDa) by Suzuki coupling reaction. Experimental results confirm that D–π–A–π–A PC‐TBTBT ‐based solar cell shows a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.74% with high VOC of 0.99 V and enhanced JSC of 9.70 mA cm−2. The PCE and JSC achieve improvements of 17% and 26%, respectively, compared to the D–π–A PC‐TBT ‐based solar cell.

Fun in the sun! A strategy has been devised for functionalizing and solubilizing boron dipyrromethene (Bodipy) dyes at the central boron atom and changing the color by increasing delocalization on the central core. This approach leads to the formation of stable B? C≡C and pyrrole? C?C linkages suitable for use in TiO2‐sensitized devices (see figure).

A series of new push–pull organic dyes ( BT‐I – VI ), incorporating electron‐withdrawing bithiazole with a thiophene, furan, benzene, or cyano moiety, as π spacer have been synthesized, characterized, and used as the sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In comparison with the model compound T1 , these dyes containing a thiophene moiety between triphenylamine and bithiazole display enhanced spectral responses in the red portion of the solar spectrum. Electrochemical measurement data indicate that the HOMO and LUMO energy levels can be tuned by introducing different π spacers between the bithiazole moiety and cyanoacrylic acid acceptor. The incorporation of bithiazole substituted with two hexyl groups is highly beneficial to prevent close π–π aggregation, thus favorably suppressing charge recombination and intermolecular interaction. The overall conversion efficiencies of DSSCs based on bithiazole dyes are in the range of 3.58 to 7.51 %, in which BT‐I ‐based DSSCs showed the best photovoltaic performance: a maximum monochromatic incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) of 81.1 %, a short‐circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 15.69 mA cm?2, an open‐circuit photovoltage (Voc) of 778 mV, and a fill factor (ff) of 0.61, which correspond to an overall conversion efficiency of 7.51 % under standard global AM 1.5 solar light conditions. Most importantly, long‐term stability of the BT‐I – III ‐based DSSCs with ionic‐liquid electrolytes under 1000 h of light soaking was demonstrated and BT‐II with a furan moiety exhibited better photovoltaic performance of up to 5.75 % power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Due to the ease of tuning its redox potential, the cobalt‐based redox couple has been extensively applied for highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with extraordinarily high photovoltages. However, a cobalt electrolyte needs particular structural changes in the organic dye components to obtain such high photovoltages. To achieve high device performance, specific requirements in the molecular tailoring of organic sensitizers still need to be met. Besides the need for large electron donors, studies of the auxiliary acceptor segment of donor–acceptor–π‐acceptor (D‐A‐π‐A) organic sensitizers are still rare in molecular optimization in the context of cobalt electrolytes. In this work, two novel organic D‐A‐π‐A‐type sensitizers ( IQ13 and IQ17 ) have been developed and exploited in cobalt‐ and iodine‐based redox electrolyte DSSCs, specifically to provide insight into the effect of π‐bridge modification in different electrolytes. The investigation has been focused on the additional electron‐withdrawing acceptor capability with grafted long alkoxy chains. Optoelectronic transient measurements have indicated that IQ17 containing a pyrido[3,4‐b]pyrazine moiety bearing long alkoxyphenyl chains is more suitable for application in cobalt‐based DSSCs.  相似文献
