DP/MIS and OR: what was,what is,what could be

It has been three decades since electronic computers were first introduced into the business community. The application of computers to business functions and business information problems has led to profound changes in the way that businesses operate. OR began to penetrate the business community at roughly the same time that the first large-scale DP applications began to appear.The computer has had a significant impact on OR as an “enabling device”, at least. The OR community has not, however, paid particular attention to the evolution of the computer, its use in business information applications, nor the management problems associated with effective use. The explosive growth of computer technology, the utilization of the computer in new business areas such as office automation, and the evolving awareness of concepts such as Information Resources Management provide a renewed opportunity for OR to contribute substantially.The objectives of this review paper are to describe this new opportunity area for OR, to place it in an appropriate historical and technological context, and to suggest ways in which the OR community might take up this important challenge.     

Operational,umbral methods,Borel transform and negative derivative operator techniques

ABSTRACT

Differintegral methods, namely those techniques using differential and integral operators on the same footing, currently exploited in calculus, provide a fairly unexhausted source of tools to be applied to a wide class of problems involving the theory of special functions and not only. The use of integral transforms of Borel type and the associated formalism will be shown to be an effective means, allowing a link between umbral and operational methods. We merge these two points of view to get a new and efficient method to obtain integrals of special functions and the summation of the associated generating functions as well.     

Sine transform based preconditioning techniques for space fractional diffusion equations

We study the preconditioned iterative methods for the linear systems arising from the numerical solution of the multi-dimensional space fractional diffusion equations. A sine transform based preconditioning technique is developed according to the symmetric and skew-symmetric splitting of the Toeplitz factor in the resulting coefficient matrix. Theoretical analyses show that the upper bound of relative residual norm of the GMRES method when applied to the preconditioned linear system is mesh-independent which implies the linear convergence. Numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results and the effectiveness of the proposed preconditioning technique.     

Fourier transform versus Hilbert transform

Certain relations between the Fourier transform of a function and the Hilbert transform of its derivative are revealed. They concern the integrability/non-integrability of both transforms. Certain applications are discussed.

Riesz transform and Riesz potentials for Dunkl transform

Analogues of Riesz potentials and Riesz transforms are defined and studied for the Dunkl transform associated with a family of weight functions that are invariant under a reflection group. The L^p$L^p$ boundedness of these operators is established in certain cases.     

Wavelet transform associated with linear canonical Hankel transform

The main goal of this paper is to study about the continuous as well as discrete wavelet transform in terms of linear canonical Hankel transform (LCH‐transform) and discuss some of its basic properties. Parseval's relation and reconstruction formula of continuous linear canonical Hankel wavelet transform (CLCH‐wavelet transform) is obtained. Moreover, semidiscrete and discrete LCH‐wavelet transform are also discussed.     

Unified theorems involvingH-function transform and Meijer Bessel function transform

A theorem which reveals an interesting relationship between originals of related functions inH-function transform and Meijer Bessel function transforms is established. Another theorem interconnecting the two Meijer Bessel function transforms is also obtained. These theorems seem to be capable of unifying and extending a large number of results obtained by earlier workers. Finally, we evaluate an integral by way of illustration.
