On Finsler transnormal functions

In this note we discuss a few properties of transnormal Finsler functions, i.e., the natural generalization of distance functions and isoparametric Finsler functions. In particular, we prove that critical level sets of an analytic transnormal function are submanifolds, and the partition of M into level sets is a Finsler partition, when the function is defined on a compact analytic manifold M.

Ratio asymptotics for orthogonal rational functions on an interval

Let {α₁,α₂,…} be a sequence of real numbers outside the interval [−1,1] and μ a positive bounded Borel measure on this interval satisfying the Erd s–Turán condition μ′>0 a.e., where μ′ is the Radon–Nikodym derivative of the measure μ with respect to the Lebesgue measure. We introduce rational functions _n(x) with poles {α₁,…,α_n} orthogonal on [−1,1] and establish some ratio asymptotics for these orthogonal rational functions, i.e. we discuss the convergence of _n+1(x)/_n(x) as n tends to infinity under certain assumptions on the location of the poles. From this we derive asymptotic formulas for the recurrence coefficients in the three-term recurrence relation satisfied by the orthonormal functions.     

Averaged Dehn functions for nilpotent groups

Gromov proposed an averaged version of the Dehn function and claimed that in many cases it should be subasymptotic to the Dehn function. Using results on random walks in nilpotent groups, we confirm this claim for most nilpotent groups. In particular, if a nilpotent group satisfies the isoperimetric inequality δ(l)<Cl^α for α>2, then it satisfies the averaged isoperimetric inequality . In the case of non-abelian free nilpotent groups, the bounds we give are asymptotically sharp.     

Fibonacci Lengths of Certain Nilpotent 2-Groups

In this paper, we study two classes of 2-generated 2-groups of nilpotency class 2 classified by Kluempen in 2002 and also a class of finite 2-groups of high nilpotency class for their Fibonacci lengths. Their involvement in certain interesting sequences of Tribonacci numbers gives us some explicit formulas for the Fibonacci lengths and this adds to the small class of finite groups for which the Fibonacci length are known.

Contractions of Low-Dimensional Nilpotent Jordan Algebras

In this article, we classify the laws of three-dimensional and four-dimensional nilpotent Jordan algebras over the field of complex numbers. We describe the irreducible components of their algebraic varieties and extend contractions and deformations among their isomorphism classes. In particular, we prove that 𝒥² and 𝒥³ are irreducible and that 𝒥⁴ is the union of the Zariski closures of the orbits of two rigid Jordan algebras.     

On the Genus of the Nilpotent Graphs of Finite Groups

The nilpotent graph of a group G is a simple graph whose vertex set is G?nil(G), where nil(G) = {y ∈ G | ? x, y ? is nilpotent ? x ∈ G}, and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if ? x, y ? is nilpotent. In this article, we show that the collection of finite non-nilpotent groups whose nilpotent graphs have the same genus is finite, derive explicit formulas for the genus of the nilpotent graphs of some well-known classes of finite non-nilpotent groups, and determine all finite non-nilpotent groups whose nilpotent graphs are planar or toroidal.     

Recurrence and asymptotics for orthonormal rational functions on an interval

^{Let µ be a positive bounded Borel measure on a subsetI of the real line and = {₁, ..., _n} a sequence of arbitrary ‘complex’poles outside I. Suppose {₁, ..., _n} is the sequence of rationalfunctions with poles in orthonormal on I with respect to µ. First, we are concernedwith reducing the number of different coefficients in the three-termrecurrence relation satisfied by these orthonormal rationalfunctions. Next, we consider the case in which I = [–1, 1] and µ satisfies the Erdos–Turán conditionµ' > 0 a.e. on I (where µ' is the Radon–Nikodymderivative of the measure µ with respect to the Lebesguemeasure) to discuss the convergence of _n+1(x)/_n(x) as n tendsto infinity and to derive asymptotic formulas for the recurrencecoefficients in the three-term recurrence relation. Finally,we give a strong convergence result for _n(x) under the morerestrictive condition that µ satisfies the Szeg condition(1 – x2)–1/2 log µ'(x) L1([– 1, 1]).}     

Nilpotent Subsets of Graded Algebras with Color Involution

In this article, we examine group-graded algebras R with color involution. If S is the symmetric elements and K the skew symmetric elements, it is shown that if S ⁿ  = 0 then R ³ⁿ  = 0, whereas if K ⁿ  = 0 then (R[R, R]_ε R) ⁿ  = 0, where R[R, R]_ε R is the ε-commutator ideal corresponding to a bicharacter ε. It is then shown that the bounds found for the degrees of nilpotence of R and R[R, R]_ε R are best possible. We also examine the situation where R is graded by a finite group and only the identity component of either S or K is assumed to be nilpotent. We conclude by looking at some questions related to the Nagata-Higman theorem.     

Characterization of 3-Rewritable Finite Nilpotent Groups

Let n be an integer greater than 1. A group G is said to be “ n-rewritable” whenever for every n elements x ₁,…,x _n of G, there exist distinct permutations τ, σ on the set {1,2,…, n} such that x _τ(1) ··· x _τ(n) = x _{σ (1)} ··· x _{σ (n)}. In this article, we complete the classification of 3-rewritable finite nilpotent groups and prove that a finite nilpotent group G is 3-rewritable if and only if G has an abelian subgroup of index 2 or the derived subgroup has order < 6.     

Finite Nilpotent Semigroups of Small Coclass

The parameter coclass has been used successfully in the study of nilpotent algebraic objects of different kinds. In this article a definition of coclass for nilpotent semigroups is introduced and semigroups of coclass 0, 1, and 2 are classified. Presentations for all such semigroups and formulae for their numbers are obtained. The classification is provided up to isomorphism as well as up to isomorphism or anti-isomorphism. Commutative and self-dual semigroups are identified within the classification.     

Estimates for the Lebesgue functions and the Nevai formula for the sinc-approximations of continuous functions on an interval

We obtain some upper and lower estimates for the sequences of the Lebesgue functions and constants of the Whittaker operators

for continuous functions. We give an analog of Nevai’s formula for the Lagrange-Chebyshev and Lagrange-Laguerre interpolation polynomials for the operators under consideration. Its “local” version is established.

     

Non-Commuting Graphs of Nilpotent Groups

Let G be a non-abelian group and Z(G) be the center of G. The non-commuting graph Γ _G associated to G is the graph whose vertex set is G?Z(G) and two distinct elements x, y are adjacent if and only if xy ≠ yx. We prove that if G and H are non-abelian nilpotent groups with irregular isomorphic non-commuting graphs, then |G| = |H|.

3-Rewritable Nilpotent 2-Groups of Class 2#

ABSTRACT

Let n be an integer greater than 1. A group G is said to be n-rewritable (or a Q_n-group) if for every n elements x₁, x₂,…,x_n in G there exist distinct permutations σ and τ in S_n such that x_σ(1)x_{σ (2)} ??? x_σ(n) = x_τ(1)x_τ(2) ??? x_τ(n). In this paper, we characterize all 3-rewritable nilpotent 2-groups of class 2. Also we have found a bound for the nilpotency class of certain nilpotent 3-rewritable groups, and have shown that 3-rewritable groups satisfy a certain law.     

Lower Bounds on the Number of Cyclic Subgroups in Finite Non-Cyclic Nilpotent Groups

Let $G$ be a finite group and $\mathfrak{c}(G)$ denote the number of cyclic subgroups of $G$. It is known that the minimal value of $\mathfrak{c}$ on the set of groups of order $n$, where $n$ is a positive integer, will occur at the cyclic group $Z_n$. In this paper, for non-cyclic nilpotent groups $G$ of order $n$, the lower bounds of $\mathfrak{c}(G)$ are established.     

Riesz Bases Generated by Contractions and Translations of a Function on an Interval

Conditions for a system of contractions and translations of a function to be a Riesz basis are given.
