A comparative study of TiO2 powders prepared by sol–gel methods is presented. Titanium tetraisopropoxide was used as the precursor for the sol–gel processes. The effects of the annealing treatment on phase, crystallite size, porosity and photodegradation of dyes (methyl orange and methylene blue) were studied. The phase structure, microstructure and surface properties of the films were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The X-ray diffraction was used for crystal phase identification, for the accurate estimation of the anatase–rutile ratio and for the crystallite size evaluation of each polymorph in the samples. It was found that the only TiO2 anatase phase of the synthesized TiO2 develops below 500 °C, between 600 and 800 °C the anatase coexist with rutile and above 800 °C only the rutile phase was found in the samples. Attention has been paid not only to crystal structures, but also to the porosity, the particle size and the photocatalytic properties. However, the annealing temperature was found to have significant influence on the photocatalytic properties. Different TiO2 doctor blade thin films were obtained mixing the sol gel powder (100% anatase) and TiO2 Aldrich with TiO2 Degussa P25. The surfactant (Triton X100 or sodium dodecyl sulfate) affects the packing density of the particles during deposition and the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the dyes. The photocatalytic degradation kinetics of methyl orange and methylene blue using TiO2 thin film were investigated.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline TiO2 was synthesized using the microwave plasma technique and characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, laser particle size analyzer, UV–vis spectroscopy and BET surface area analyzer. The synthesized TiO2 powder crystallized in anatase phase and the crystallite sizes were in nanometers. The photocatalytic activity of the compound was determined and compared against the activity of the commercial Degussa P-25 TiO2 catalyst. The degradation rates of the dyes were found to be higher over the synthesized TiO2 as compared to that over commercial Degussa P-25 TiO2.  相似文献

Nanosized TiO2 particles were prepared by the hydrothermal method from the amorphous powders which were precipitated in an aqueous peroxotitanate solution. The physical properties of the nanosized TiO2 particles prepared were investigated. We also examined the activity of TiO2 particles as a photocatalyst on the decomposition of orange II. The titania sol can be successfully crystallized to the anatase phase through hydrothermal aging at temperatures higher than 160°C. The particle size increases from 18 to 26 nm as the synthesis temperature increases from 140 to 200°C. Titania particles prepared at 180°C show the highest activity, and titania particles calcined at 400°C show also the highest activity on the photocatalytic decomposition of orange II.  相似文献

Stabilised titania sols were prepared using an additive free particulate sol-gel route, via electrostatic stabilisation mechanism, with various processing parameters. Peptisation temperature, 50°C and 70°C, and TiO2 concentration, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 molar, were chosen as processing parameters during sol preparation. Results from TiO2 particle size and zeta potential of sols revealed that the smallest titania hydrodynamic diameter (13 nm) and the highest zeta potential (47.7 mV) were obtained for the sol produced at the lower peptisation temperature of 50°C and lower TiO2 concentration of 0.1 M. On the other hand, between the sols prepared at 70°C, smaller titania particles (20 nm) and higher zeta potential (46.3 mV) were achieved with increasing TiO2 concentration up to 0.4 M. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) results of produced powders annealed at different temperatures showed that the 300°C annealed powder made from 0.1 M sol prepared at 50°C was a mixture of anatase and brookite, corresponding to a major phase of anatase (∼95% estimated), with the smallest average crystallite size of 1.3 nm and the highest specific surface area (SSA) of 193 m2/g. Furthermore, increasing TiO2 concentration up to 0.4 molar for the sols prepared at 70°C resulted in decreasing the average crystallite size (1.9 nm at 300°C) and increasing SSA (116 m2/g at 300°C) of the powders annealed at different temperatures. Anatase-to-rutile phase transformation temperature was increased with decreasing peptisation temperature down to 50°C, whereas TiO2 concentration had no effect on this transition. Anatase percentage increased with decreasing both peptisation temperature and TiO2 concentration. Such prepared powders can be used in many applications in areas from photo catalysts to gas sensors.  相似文献

Titania powders were synthesized by thermal hydrolysis of titanium tetrachloride in a mixed solvent was studied. The dielectric constant was tuned by regulating the acetone/water volume ratio (R/H ratio) and temperature of the solvent. Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) was used as a steric dispersant. The synthesis were carried out at R/H ratios of 0–4, temperatures of 70–90°C, TiCl4 concentrations of 0.05–0.2 M, HPC concentrations of 0–5 × 10–3 g/cm3, and synthesis times of 15–60 min. The TiO2 particles obtained at an R/H ratio of 0, i.e., pure water system, were fine and agglomerated. In contrast, the TiO2 particles prepared at an R/H ratio of 3 were uniform and spherical. The TiO2 particle size increased with increasing TiCl4 concentration. The synthesis temperature did not influence the particle size, but greatly influenced the morphologyof the TiO2. Adding HPC to the solution yielded more uniform and spherical particles. In addition, the synthesis time should be longer than 30 min to obtain the most uniform and spherical particles. The dielectric constant of the acetone-water mixed solvent at 28 gave the most uniform and spherical TiO2 particles. The powders prepared at the condition of 0.1 M TiCl4, R/H ratio of 3, HPC concentration of 0.001 g/cm3, temperature of 70°C, and synthesis time of 1 h exhibited the most uniform and spherical morphology. The as-synthesized powder was anatase and retained the phase below 400°C. It transformed to the rutile phase after calcination at 700°C.  相似文献

The rod-like titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles were synthesized by a simple and rapid microwave-assisted molten-salt method. The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the phase composition transformation from the anatase phase of original TiO2 nanomaterial to the rutile phase of high crystallinity. Scanning electron microscopy proved the conversion of originally globular particles of original anatase TiO2 sized from 200 to 500 nm into rods with a length of 5–10 μm and a diameter between 0.5 and 2 μm. The electrorheological (ER) measurements performed under steady-state flow as a function of the applied electric field strength and particle concentration showed that suspended rutile rod-like TiO2 particle-based fluid exhibits much higher ER activity than that of original anatase TiO2 material powder. These observations were clearly demonstrated by viewing their dielectric spectra analyses.  相似文献

The nanosized titania and TiO2/SiO2 particles were prepared by the microwave-hydrothermal method. The effect of physical properties TTIP/TEOS ratio and calcination temperature has been investigated. The major phase of the pure TiO2 particle is of the anatase structure, and a rutile peak was observed above 800°C. In TiO2/SiO2 particles, however, no significant rutile phase was observed, although the calcination temperature was 900°C. No peaks for the silica crystal phase were observed at either silica/titania ratio. The crystallite size of TiO2/SiO2 particles decreases as compared to pure TiO2 at high calcination temperatures. The TiO2/SiO2 particles show higher activity on the photocatalytic decomposition of orange II as compared to pure TiO2 particles.  相似文献

TiO2 nanoparticles are widely used for many applications and an understanding of the crystallization behavior of TiO2 is essential, so that heat treatment conditions can be optimized for particular applications. The effect of sol–gel synthesis conditions on the crystallization behavior of TiO2 has, therefore, been investigated. Complete crystallization to the anatase phase (determined by XRD and TEM analysis) was achieved during drying of the synthesis product at 95 °C. The nanoparticles grew during heat treatment, reaching ∼10–15 nm in diameter with a heat treatment at 450 °C. Explanations are offered for the observed differences in the crystallization and particle growth behavior of TiO2 synthesized under various conditions.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline titanium dioxide particles with anatase structure and high thermal stability have been synthesized using the basic sol-gel method. The particle size and morphology were refined under hydrothermal conditions in the presence of different concentrations of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) at 210°C and 230°C. XRD and TEM analysis showed that the TiO2 particles obtained were homogeneous and monodispersive at low contents of TMAH. All intense peaks, clearly observed in the XRD patterns, were assigned to the anatase phase and no rutile phase was observed. At high contents of TMAH, nanoscale small (10–30 nm) and larger (>100 nm) TiO2 particles were one-pot synthesized. The nanocrystalline TiO2 particles synthesized by this method have good thermal stability. With the sintering temperature of up to 650°C, all the XRD peaks maintained good agreement with the anatase reference data.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline TiO2 powders in the anatase, rutile, and mixed phases prepared by hydrolysis of TiCl4 solution were of ultrafine size (<7.2 nm) with high specific surface areas in the range 167 to 388 m2/g. In the photocatalytic degradation of phenol as model reaction, the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanoparticles were evaluated by use of UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and total organic carbon (TOC) content. The synthetic mixed-phase TiO2 powder calcined at 400 °C had higher activity than pure anatase or rutile; it degraded more than 90% phenol to CO2 (evaluated by TOC) after irradiation with near UV light for 90 min at a catalyst loading of 0.4 g/L. The TOC results indicated that rutile TiO2 crystallites of particle size 7.2 nm resulted in much better photocatalytic performance than particles of larger size. This result suggested that some intermediates, not determined by UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, existed in the solution after the photocatalytic process over the rutile TiO2 photocatalysts of larger crystallite size.  相似文献

The effect of the microstructure of titanium dioxide on the structure, thermal stability, and catalytic properties of supported CuO/TiO2 and CuO/(CeO2-TiO2) catalysts in CO oxidation was studied. The formation of a nanocrystalline structure was found in the CuO/TiO2 catalysts calcined at 500°C. This nanocrystalline structure consisted of aggregated fine anatase particles about 10 nm in size and interblock boundaries between them, in which Cu2+ ions were stabilized. Heat treatment of this catalyst at 700°C led to a change in its microstructure with the formation of fine CuO particles 2.5–3 nm in size, which were strongly bound to the surface of TiO2 (anatase) with a regular well-ordered crystal structure. In the CuO/(CeO2-TiO2) catalysts, the nanocrystalline structure of anatase was thermally more stable than in the CuO/TiO2 catalyst, and it persisted up to 700°C. The study of the catalytic properties of the resulting catalysts showed that the CuO/(CeO2-TiO2) catalysts with the nanocrystalline structure of anatase were characterized by the high-est activity in CO oxidation to CO2.  相似文献

T-piece and concentric counter-flow mixing systems are compared in continuous flow supercritical solvothermal synthesis of TiO2 at identical system parameters. The phase pure anatase nanoparticle products were characterized with powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and the particle size, size distribution and absolute crystallinity mapped as a function of temperature, precursor concentration, flow rate and pressure for the two different continuous flow reactors. The particles synthesized with the T-piece geometry are smaller with a narrower size distribution, possibly indicating a more effective mixing, than particles synthesized at the same conditions with concentric counter-flow geometry. In general, an increased synthesis temperature leads to an increase in absolute crystallinity. For the particles synthesized with the concentric reactor geometry crossing of the critical point of the solvent causes a decrease in the particle size and size distribution, and conditions just above the critical temperature are demonstrated to be optimal for continuous solvothermal synthesis of anatase.  相似文献

TiO2 photocatalytic powders were synthesized by a sol–gel combustion synthesis method in which urea was used as the fuel and titanyl nitrate was used as the oxidizer. Various fuel-to-oxidizer ratios were studied for their effects on the combustion phenomena and the properties of the synthesized TiO2. The fuel-to-oxidizer ratio was found to determine the maximum combustion temperature, which in turn affects the specific surface area, crystallite size, and weight fraction of anatase phase of the synthesized TiO2. The synthesized TiO2 all contain carbonaceous species and are either pure anatase or anatase–rutile mixed phase in crystalline structure. The photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 was found to correlate to a certain degree with the specific surface area, crystallite size, weight fraction of anatase phase, and visible and IR absorbances. The mixed phase TiO2 shows a higher photocatalytic activity than the pure anatase phase TiO2 when containing a small fraction (<~25 wt%) of rutile phase but a lower phoyocatalytic activity when containing a large fraction (>~25 wt%) of rutile phase. The synthesized TiO2 all show higher photocatalytic activity than Degussa P25 TiO2. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed mainly to sensitization by the carbonaceous species and larger amounts of hydroxyl group adsorbed on the TiO2 surface.  相似文献

In this work, the structural and optical properties of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanopowders are studied. The TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by complexing sol–gel process and effect of complexing agents on transition of the anatase phase to rutile phase during the heat treatment have been investigated. In addition, we have studied the grain size of TiO2 powders and their dependence on the type of complexing agent. The analysis of the XRD patterns, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, BET surface area and TEM images show that the synthesis of nanoparticles with acetyl acetone (AcAc) as complexing agent yielded the smallest size of nanoparticles about 22–35 nm. Our results indicate that with increasing the calcinating temperature, the size of the nanoparticles is increased and the energy gap reduced, too. Also, the optical band gap was obtained in the range of 3.4–4.1 and 3.06–3.74 eV for anatase and rutile phases, respectively.  相似文献

Nano-composite TiO2?CZrO2 materials were prepared via sol?Cgel processes by hydrolysis of mixtures of titanium- and zirconium-containing alkoxides with TiO2:ZrO2 ratios of 1:2, 1:1, 2:1, and 10:1. Precipitated powders were dried at room temperature and annealed in ambient air at temperatures between 350 and 500?°C for 4?h. Pure TiO2 and ZrO2 powders were synthesized for comparison. Samples were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray absorption near edge fine structure (XANES). The detailed analysis of those data provides the crystalline and amorphous phase composition as well as the crystallite particle size. According to XRD and XANES analysis, only the two pure oxide samples and one of the composite samples with a composition TiO2:ZrO2?=?10:1, crystallized. Both titania containing powders, the pure TiO2 and the TiO2:ZrO2?=?10:1 composite, were found to crystallize in the anatase structure. ZrO2 was found to stay amorphous in the composites but crystalline in the pure oxide. In the crystallized composite TiO2:ZrO2?=?10:1 sample, the concentration of the amorphous phase remains larger than in pure TiO2 samples, but the crystallite size was found to be nearly constant with increasing annealing temperature in contrast to the increasing particle size of pure TiO2-samples. Pure TiO2 precipitates are amorphous directly after preparation, however they crystallize after 6?month storage at ambient conditions by aging. Such an aging was not observed for the TiO2:ZrO2 composites.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline mesoporous TiO2 was synthesized by hydrothermal method using titanium butoxide as starting material. XRD, SEM, and TEM analyses revealed that the synthesized TiO2 had anatase structure with crystalline size of about 8 nm. Moreover, the synthesized titania possessed a narrow pore size distribution with average pore diameter and high specific surface area of 215 m2/g. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized TiO2 was evaluated with photocatalytic H2 production from water-splitting reaction. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized TiO2 treated with appropriate calcination temperature was considerably higher than that of commercial TiO2 (Ishihara ST-01). The utilization of mesoporous TiO2 photocatalyst with high crystallinity of anatase phase promoted great H2 production. Furthermore, the reaction temperature significantly influences the water-splitting reaction.  相似文献

TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by a multi-gelation method and the effect of the changes in the pH during the pH swing times, i.e., by a controlled pH swing, on the morphology of the TiO2 particles was investigated. The photocatalytic properties of the TiO2 catalysts prepared by controlled pH swing were compared with TiO2 particles prepared without adjusting the pH during the swing times. The photocatalytic degradation reaction of these TiO2 catalysts was investigated by comparing their effectiveness in 2-propanol oxidation. The experimental results showed that the TiO2 photocatalysts prepared without adjusting the pH performed better in controlling the important parameters of the catalysts such as particle size, surface area, anatase/rutile phase ratio and pore size, as well as pore volume than the TiO2 photocatalysts prepared by a controlled pH swing method. A simple method is described for the synthesis of carbon nanotube/anatase titania composites by a combination of a sol-gel method with a self-assembly technique at 65 °C. This method makes use of polyelectrolyte for wrapping multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and providing them with adsorption sites for electrostatically driven TiO2 nanoparticle deposition. The composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and photoluminescence for analyzing their crystal phase, microstructure, particle size, and other physicochemical properties. The results showed that MWCNT were covered with an anatase TiO2 thin layer or surrounded by an anatase TiO2 thick coating, which is constructed of TiO2 particles about 6 nm in size. The composites were rich in surface hydroxyl groups. The excited e in conduction band of TiO2 may migrate to MWCNT. Concerning the potential applicability, MWCNT/TiO2 composites showed excellent photocatalytic activity toward the photodegradation of methyl orange.  相似文献

TiO2 nanoparticles were produced in the diffusion flame reactor, and the size and anatase/rutile content of TiO2 were examined by a Particle Size Analyzer and X-ray diffraction, respectively. Increase in fuel/O2 ratio, initial concentration of TiCl4 or total gas flow rate causes the larger particle size and the higher rutile composition. The photocatalytic activities of TiO2 powders were tested on the decompositions of phenol and toluene in the aqueous solution under UV irradiation. The degradation rate increases as the TiO2 particle size decreases and as the initial concentration of phenol or toluene increases. The photodegradation rate of phenol by TiO2 particles is higher than that of toluene at the same process conditions. The computational method was used to simulate the gas temperature, velocity and species mass fractions inside the diffusion flame reactor during synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles. The measured and simulated temperature results were compared on several positions above the burner and both of them show good agreements. The typical contours of TiCl4, TiO2 mass fractions and gas velocities in flame reactor were presented.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 as a promising photocatalyst has been widely employed in the decontamination treatment of polluted water, air purification and water splitting. Coupling TiO2 with other semiconductor materials could further enhance the photocatalytic activity. Here, we successfully synthesized the SnOz/TiO2 catalyst by depositing SnO2 particles on the anatase TiO2 {105} facets through a gas phase oxidation process. The SnOz/TiO2 catalyst shows higher photocatalytic activity for decomposition of MB than that of the pure YiO2 catalyst. The enhanced photo- catalytic activity can be attributed to the efficient charge separation since TiO2 and SnO2 catalyst have staggered energy level.  相似文献
