We present the results of an experimental and theoretical investigation of monosubstituted ethyl-, vinyl-, and ethynyl-ferrocene (EtFC, VFC, and EFC) free molecules, obtained by means of synchrotron-radiation based C 1s photoabsorption (NEXAFS) and photoemission (C 1s XPS) spectroscopies, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Such a combined study is aimed at elucidating the role played by the C-C bond unsaturation degree of the substituent on the electronic structure of the ferrocene derivatives. Such substituents are required for molecular chemical anchoring onto relevant surfaces when ferrocenes are used for molecular electronics hybrid devices. The high resolution C 1s NEXAFS spectra exhibit distinctive features that depend on the degree of unsaturation of the hydrocarbon substituent. The theoretical approach to consider the NEXAFS spectrum made of three parts allowed to disentangle the specific contribution of the substituent group to the experimental spectrum as a function of its unsaturation degree. C 1s IEs were derived from the experimental data analysis based on the DFT calculated IE values for the different carbon atoms of the substituent and cyclopentadienyl (Cp) rings. Distinctive trends of chemical shifts were observed for the substituent carbon atoms and the substituted atom of the Cp ring along the series of ferrocenes. The calculated IE pattern was rationalized in terms of initial and final state effects influencing the IE value, with special regard to the different mechanism of electron conjugation between the Cp ring and the substituent, namely the σ/π hyperconjugation in EtFC and the π-conjugation in VFC and EFC.  相似文献

Kβ X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) is emerging as a powerful tool for the study of chemical bonding. Analyses of the Kβ XES of ferrocene (Fc) and ferrocenium (Fc(+)) are presented as further demonstrations of the capabilities of the technique. Assignments of the valence to core (V2C) region of these spectra as electric dipole-allowed cyclopentadienyl (Cp) → Fe 1s transitions demonstrate that XES affords electronic structural insight into the energetics of ligand-based molecular orbitals (MOs). Combined with K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), we show that XES can provide analogous information to photoemission spectroscopy (PES). Density functional theory (DFT) analyses reveal that the V2C transitions in Fc/Fc(+) derive their intensity from Fe 4p admixture (on the order of 5-10%) into the Cp-based MOs from which they originate. These 4p admixtures confer bonding character to the Cp-based a(2u) and e(1u) MOs to at least the extent of backbonding contributions to frontier MOs from higher-lying Cp π* MOs.  相似文献

Ultraviolet photoelectron spectra (UPS) of C(82) isomers have been calculated using hybrid density functional theory in combination with the Gelius model [Proceedings of the International Conference on Electron spectroscopy, edited by D. A. Shirley (North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1972), p. 311; J. Electron Spectrosc. Relat. Phenom. 5, 985 (1974)]. The calculated UPS spectra are found to be isomer dependent and in good agreement with the experimental counterparts. Near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray emission spectroscopy, and the resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of three important isomers [3(C(2)), 6(C(s)), and 9(C(2v))] have also been simulated. Strong isomer dependence has also been found for NEXAFS, XPS, and RIXS spectra.  相似文献

The FT-IR spectra of 18 (R-Cp)2M(NCS)2 were measured. The M-Cp, M-NCS (M=Ti, Zr, Hf) and other vibration modes were reasonably assigned. All complexes of (R-Cp)2M(NCS)2 determined in this paper are bonded by N-M, and the absorption of upsilon(s)(M-Cp)(A1) (M=Ti, Zr and Hf) vibration all appear in 365 cm(-1) or so, while upsilon(as)(M-Cp)(B) appear successively around 420, 350 and 320 cm(-1) in order of Ti, Zr and Hf. The influence of the center metal atoms and the substituents on cyclopentadienyl upon the spectra was discussed. It is mainly in far infrared region that center metal atoms influence upon the infrared spectra. The influence of the substituents to cyclopentadienyling upon its vibration is not significant. Only between 1500 and 1480 cm(-1) did a new absorbing peak appear due to the introduction of substituents to activate upsilon(CC) vibration.  相似文献

The speciation and quantification of sulfur species based on sulfur K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy is of wide interest, particularly for biological and petroleum science. These tasks require a firm understanding of the sulfur 1s near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of relevant species. To this end, we have examined the gas phase sulfur 1s NEXAFS spectra of a group of simple thiol and thioether compounds. These high-resolution gas phase spectra are free of solid-state broadening, charging, and saturation effects common in the NEXAFS spectra of solids. These experimental data have been further analyzed with the aid of improved virtual orbital Hartree-Fock ab initio calculations. The experimental sulfur 1s NEXAFS spectra show fine features predicted by calculation, and the combination of experiment and calculation has been used to improve assignment of spectroscopic features relevant for the speciation and quantification of the sulfur compounds.  相似文献

Theoretical near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra describing oxygen 1s core excitation have been evaluated for the differently coordinated oxygen species appearing near the V2O3(0001) surface with half metal layer VOV termination. Adsorption of oxygen above vanadium centers of the VOV terminated surface (OtVO termination) results in very strongly bound vanadyl oxygen, which has also been considered for core excitation in this study. The angle-resolved spectra are based on electronic structure calculations using ab initio density functional theory (DFT) together with model clusters. Experimental NEXAFS spectra for V2O3(0001) show a rather strong dependence of peak positions and relative intensities on the photon polarization direction. This dependence is well described by the present theoretical spectra and allows us to assign spectral details in the experiment to specific O 1s core excitations where final state orbitals are determined by the local binding environments of the differently coordinated oxygen centers. As a result, a combination of the present theoretical spectra with experimental NEXAFS data enables an identification of differently coordinated surface oxygen species at the V2O3(0001) surface.  相似文献

The carbon 1s near edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of simple gaseous alkane molecules differ from the spectra of the same alkane molecules in the condensed phase. The origin of these large, systematic differences is poorly understood. The NEXAFS spectra of gaseous alkanes are interpreted as a progression of core-->Rydberg transitions with distinctive vibronic structure. The interpretation of the NEXAFS spectra of condensed phase alkanes is varied. Specifically, the degree of Rydberg character in the pre-edge core excited states of condensed alkanes is controversial. We determined the character of core excited states in condensed alkanes with a combination of experiment and computational study. From this, we have determined the nature of matrix effects for these species. The high-resolution carbon 1s NEXAFS spectrum of gaseous neopentane is dramatically different from its condensed phase spectrum, a striking illustration of the dramatic spectroscopic changes that occur upon condensation. High quality ab initio calculations of a cluster designed to model the solid phase environment provide definitive evidence for the reduction of Rydberg character and support the assignment of sigma*C-H) valence character in the pre-edge features in the NEXAFS spectra of condensed alkanes.  相似文献

The cyano-substituted metallocenes [M(C5H4CN)2] (M=Fe, 1; Co, 2; Ni 3) and [M(C5Me5)(C5H4CN)] (M=Fe, 4; Co, 5; Ni, 6) were synthesized in yields up to 58 % by treating K(C5H4CN) or Tl(C5H4CN) with suitable transition-metal precursors. Cyclic voltammetry indicated that the oxidation and reduction potentials of all the cyanometallocenes were shifted to positive values by up to 0.8 V. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis showed that 1 had eclipsed ligands, formed planes in the lattice, and--unlike usual metallocenes--lined up in stacks perpendicular to these planes. Powder X-ray studies established that 1 and 2 are isotypic. The 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded for all the new compounds. Signal shifts of up to delta=1500 ppm were recorded for the paramagnetic molecules 2 and 3 and were, at a given temperature, strikingly different for solution and solid-state spectra. These results pointed to antiferromagnetic interactions as a consequence of molecular ordering in the lattice, as confirmed by magnetic measurements. The temperature-dependent susceptibilities were reproduced by Heisenberg spin-chain models (H=-J sum n- 1 i=1 SiSi+1), thus yielding J=-28.3 and -10.3 cm(-1) for 2 and 3, respectively, whereas J=-11.8 cm(-1) was obtained for 3 from the Ising spin-chain model. In accordance with molecular orbital (MO) considerations, much spin density was found to be delocalized not only on the cyclopentadienyl ligand but also the cyano substituents. The magnetic interaction was interpreted as a Heitler-London spin exchange and was analyzed based on how the interaction depends on the singly occupied MOs and the shift of parallel metallocenes relative to each other.  相似文献

Carbon and oxygen near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of 1,4-cyclohexadiene, p-benzoquinone, norbornadiene, norbornadienone, and cis-cis-[4,4,2]propella-3,8-diene-11,12-dione were calculated by means of Hartree-Fock and hybrid density functional theory using the static-exchange (STEX) approximation. The NEXAFS spectra are used as a probe to identify weak molecular interactions between the two non-conjugated ethylenic pi* orbitals present in these molecules. We show that the X-ray absorption spectrum of 1,4-cyclohexadiene exhibits some particular spectral structures in the discrete energy region that evidence diene through-bond orbital interaction, whereas absorption peaks are identified in the norbornadiene and norbornadienone spectra that indicate effective through-space orbital interactions. The molecular structure of the cis-cis-[4,4,2]propella-3,8-diene-11,12-dione isomer is such that the indirect through-bond or through-space diene orbital interactions are too weak to be assigned by its C1s NEXAFS spectrum.  相似文献

The intrinsic variation in the near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of peptides and proteins provide an opportunity to identify and map them in various biological environments, without additional labeling. In principle, with sufficiently accurate spectra, peptides (<50 amino acids) or proteins with unusual sequences (e.g., cysteine- or methionine-rich) should be differentiable from other proteins, since the NEXAFS spectrum of each amino acid is distinct. To evaluate the potential for this approach, we have developed X-SpecSim, a tool for quantitatively predicting the C, N, and O 1s NEXAFS spectra of peptides and proteins from their sequences. Here we present the methodology for predicting such spectra, along with tests of its precision using comparisons to the spectra of various proteins and peptides. The C 1s, N 1s, and O 1s spectra of two novel antimicrobial peptides, Indolicidin (ILPWKWPWWPWRR-NH2) and Sub6 (RWWKIWVIRWWR-NH2), as well as human serum albumin and fibrinogen are reported and interpreted. The ability to identify, differentiate, and quantitatively map an antimicrobial peptide against a background of protein is demonstrated by a scanning transmission X-ray microscopy study of a mixture of albumin and sub6.  相似文献

The geometric and electronic structures of several possible adsorption configurations of the pyrazine ({C\begin{document}$ _{4} $\end{document}}{H\begin{document}$ _{4} $\end{document}}{N\begin{document}$ _{2} $\end{document}}) molecule covalently attached to Si(100) surface, which is of vital importance in fabricating functional nano-devices, have been investigated using X-ray spectroscopies. The Carbon K-shell (1s) X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy of predicted adsorbed structures have been simulated by density functional theory with cluster model calculations. Both XPS and NEXAFS spectra demonstrate the structural dependence on different adsorption configurations. In contrast to the XPS spectra, it is found that the NEXAFS spectra exhibiting conspicuous dependence on the structures of all the studied pyrazine/Si(100) systems can be well utilized for structural identification. In addition, according to the classification of carbon atoms, the spectral components of carbon atoms in different chemical environments have been investigated in the NEXAFS spectra as well.  相似文献

Theoretical C 1s near edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra for the C(9)H(10) isomers trans-methylstyrene, alpha-methylstyrene, and allylbenzene in gas phase and adsorbed at Cu(111) surfaces have been obtained from density functional theory calculations where adsorbate geometries were determined by corresponding total energy optimizations. The three species show characteristic differences in widths and peak shapes of the lowest C 1s-->pi(*) transitions which are explained by different coupling of the pi-electron system of the C(6) ring with that of the side chain in the molecules as well as by the existence of nonequivalent carbon centers. The adsorbed molecules bind only weakly with the substrate which makes the use of theoretical NEXAFS spectra of the oriented free molecules meaningful for an interpretation of experimental angle-resolved NEXAFS spectra of the adsorbate systems obtained in this work. However, a detailed quantitative account of relative peak intensities requires theoretical angle-resolved NEXAFS spectra of the complete adsorbate systems which have been evaluated within the surface cluster approach. The comparison with experiment yields almost perfect agreement and confirms the reliability of the calculated equilibrium geometries of the adsorbates. This can help to explain observed differences in the catalytic epoxidation of the three molecules on Cu(111) based on purely geometric considerations.  相似文献

The two title crystalline compounds, viz.meso‐bis{η5‐1‐[1‐(dimethylamino)ethenyl]‐3‐(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadienyl}iron(II), [Fe(C12H20NSi)2], (II), and meso‐bis{η5‐1‐[1‐(dimethylamino)ethenyl]‐3‐(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadienyl}cobalt(II), [Co(C12H20NSi)2], (III), were obtained by the reaction of lithium 1‐[1‐(dimethylamino)ethenyl]‐3‐(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadienide with FeCl2 and CoCl2, respectively. For (II), the trimethylsilyl‐ and dimethylaminoethenyl‐substituted cyclopentadienyl (Cp) rings present a nearly eclipsed conformation, and the two pairs of trimethylsilyl and dimethylaminoethenyl substituents on the Cp rings are arranged in an interlocked fashion. In the case of (III), the same substituted Cp rings are perfectly staggered leading to a crystallographically centrosymmetric molecular structure, and the two trimethylsilyl and two dimethylaminoethenyl substituents are oriented in opposite directions, respectively, with the trimethylsilyl group of one Cp ring and the dimethylaminoethenyl group of the other Cp ring arranged more closely than in (II).  相似文献

The molecular geometries, frontier molecular orbital properties, and absorption and emission properties of three 4-phenoxy-1,8-naphthalimide derivatives, namely 4-phenoxy-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide(1),4-(2-tert-butylphenoxy)-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide(2), and 4-[2,4-di(tert-butyl)]phenoxy-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide(3), are investigated by density functional theory(DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory(TD-DFT) calculations in conjunction with polarizable continuum models(PCMs). Four functionals and ten basis sets are employed for 1 to calculate the electron transition energies, which were compared with the experimental observations. Our results reveal that the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) method is the best choice to reproduce the experimental spectra. Moreover, the effects of substituents on the molecular geometries, electronic structures, absorption and emission spectra are also studied at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level. We find that the gap between the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO) decreases with increasing the number of tert-butyl substituents onto the phenoxy groups, suggesting red-shift of the absorption and emission bands. This is related to the increase of conjugation from 1 to 2 and 3. Our calculations are in good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

Core level X-ray photoemission spectra (XPS) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of alanine and threonine in the gas phase have been measured at the carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen K edges and interpreted in the light of theoretical calculations. For the computations, a set of approximations is made which allows sufficiently accurate calculations of several conformers to be performed in reasonable computing time. The accuracy has been checked by comparing results obtained for proline to our previous, higher level calculations. The photoemission spectra at the carbon and oxygen edges are assigned and compared. The nitrogen 1s photoemission peaks show anomalous broadening which we relate to the populations and types of conformers. The carbon K-edge NEXAFS spectra of alanine and threonine are compared with our previous data on glycine and resonances assigned accordingly. The nitrogen K-edge NEXAFS spectra of alanine and threonine do not show measurable effects due to the population of conformers, in contrast to the photoemission results. At the oxygen K edge, the spectra of these amino acids are similar with two prominent peaks assigned to transitions of O 1s electrons from the oxo and hydroxyl groups to vacant pi* and sigma* orbitals and additional intensity for threonine due to the second OH group. Conformer effects are observable in photoemission but appear to be more difficult to resolve in photoabsorption. We explain this by energetic shifts of opposite sign for the core hole states and unoccupied orbitals, which causes partial cancelation in NEXAFS but not in photoemission.  相似文献

Single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) produced by plasma laser vaporization (PLV) and containing oxidized surface functional groups have been studied for the first time with NEXAFS. Comparisons are made to SWNTs made by catalytic synthesis over Fe particles in high-pressure CO, called HiPco material. The results indicate that the acid purification and cutting of single-walled nanotubes with either HNO3/H2SO4 or H2O2/H2SO4 mixtures produces the oxidized groups (O/C = 5.5-6.7%), which exhibit both pi*(CO) and sigma*(CO) C K-edge NEXAFS resonances. This indicates that both carbonyl (C=O) and ether C-O-C functionalities are present. Upon heating in a vacuum to 500-600 K, the pi*(CO) resonances are observed to decrease in intensity; on heating to 1073 K, the sigma*(CO) resonances disappear as the C-O-C functional groups are decomposed. Raman spectral measurements indicate that the basic tubular structure of the SWNTs is not perturbed by heating to 1073 K, based on the invariance of the ring breathing modes upon heating. The NEXAFS studies agree well with infrared studies which show that carboxylic acid groups are thermally destroyed first, followed by the more difficult destruction of ether and quinone groups. Single-walled nanotubes produced by the HiPco process, and not treated with oxidizing acids, exhibit an O/C ratio of 1.9% and do not exhibit either pi*(CO) or sigma*(CO) resonances at the detection limit of NEXAFS. It is shown that heating (to 1073 K) of the PLV-SWNTs containing the functional groups produces C K-edge NEXAFS spectra very similar to those seen for the HiPco material. The NEXAFS spectra are calibrated against spectra measured for a number of fused-ring aromatic hydrocarbon molecules containing various types of oxidized functional groups present on the oxidized SWNTs.  相似文献

Recently we reported noncovalent functionalization of nanotubes in an aqueous medium with ionic liquid-based surfactants, 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (1) and 1-(12-mercaptododecyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide (2), resulting in positively charged single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT)-1,2 composites. Thiolation of SWNTs with 2 provides their self-assembly on gold as well as templating gold nanoparticles on SWNT sidewalls via a covalent -S-Au bond. In this investigation, we studied the electronic structure, intermolecular interactions, and packing within noncovalently thiolated SWNTs and also nanotube alignment in the bulk of SWNT-2 dried droplets and self-assembled submonolayers (SAMs) on gold by high-resolution X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HRXPS), C K-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy, and polarization-modulated infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS). HRXPS data confirmed the noncovalent nature of interactions within the nanocomposite of thiolated nanotubes. In PM-IRRAS spectra of SWNT SAMs on gold, the IR-active vibrational SWNT modes have been observed and identified. According to PM-IRRAS data, the hydrocarbon chains of 2 are oriented with less tilt angle to the bare gold normal in a SAM deposited from an SWNT-2 dispersion than those of 1 deposited from an SWNT-1 dispersion on the mercaptoethanesulfonic acid-primed gold. For both the dried SWNT-2 bulk and the SWNT-2 SAM on gold, the C K-edge NEXAFS spectra revealed the presence of CH-pi interactions between hydrocarbon chains of 2 and the pi electronic nanotube structure due to the highly resolved vibronic fine structure of carbon 1s --> R*/sigma*C-H series of states in the alkyl chain of 2. For the SWNT-2 bulk, the observed splitting and upshift of the SWNT pi* orbitals in the NEXAFS spectrum indicated the presence of pi-pi interactions. In the NEXAFS spectrum of the SWNT-2 SAM on gold, the upshifted values of the photon energy for R*/sigma*C-H transitions indicated close contact of 2 with nanotubes and with a gold surface. The angle-dependent NEXAFS for the SWNT-2 bulk showed that most of the molecules of 2 are aligned along the nanotubes, which are self-organized with orientation parallel to the substrate plane, whereas the NEXAFS for the SWNT-2 SAM revealed a more normal orientation of functionality 2 on gold compared with that in the SWNT-2 bulk.  相似文献

Carbohydrate films on gold based on dimannoside thiols (DMT) were prepared, and a complementary surface chemical analysis was performed in detail by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS), FT-IR, and contact angle measurements in order to verify formation of ω-carbohydrate-functionalized alkylthiol films. XPS (C 1s, O 1s, and S 2p) reveals information on carbohydrate specific alkoxy (C-O) and acetal moieties (O-C-O) as well as thiolate species attached to gold. Angle-resolved synchrotron XPS was used for chemical speciation at ultimate surface sensitivity. Angle-resolved XPS analysis suggests the presence of an excess top layer composed of unbound sulfur components combined with alkyl moieties. Further support for DMT attachment on Au is given by ToF-SIMS and FT-IR analysis. Carbon and oxygen K-edge NEXAFS spectra were interpreted by applying the building block model supported by comparison to data of 1-undecanethiol, poly(vinyl alcohol), and polyoxymethylene. No linear dichroism effect was observed in the angle-resolved C K-edge NEXAFS.  相似文献

High energy resolution C 1s near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of ethylene-1-alkene copolymers with systematic variations in comonomer content and thus systematic changes in branch length, branching ratio, and degree of crystallinity are presented. Spectral changes of the σ*C–H/Rydberg and σ*C–C features in these ideal model systems provide unambiguous experimental evidence for intermolecular interactions with profound effects on the spectral intensity, but only very small energy shifts. Ab initio calculations reproduce the experimental results in detail. The intermolecular interaction observed suggests that interpretation of NEXAFS spectra based on calculations of isolated molecules can be insufficient even in relatively weakly interacting macromolecules.  相似文献
