We analyze the influence of the radial component of a symbol to spectral, compactness, and Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators, acting on the Bergman space. We show that there existcompact Toeplitz operators whose (radial) symbols areunbounded near the unit circle . Studying this question we give several sufficient, and necessary conditions, as well as the corresponding examples. The essential spectra of Toeplitz operators with pure radial symbols have sufficiently rich structure, and even can be massive.TheC *-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with radial symbols are commutative, but the semicommutators[T a, Tb)=Ta·Tb–Ta·b are not compact in general. Moreover for bounded operatorsT a andT b the operatorT a·b may not be bounded at all. This work was partially supported by CONACYT Project 27934-E, México. The first author acknowledges the RFFI Grant 98-01-01023, Russia.  相似文献

An operatorX: is said to be a generalized Toeplitz operator with respect to given contractionsT 1 andT 2 ifX=T 2XT1 *. The purpose of this line of research, started by Douglas, Sz.-Nagy and Foia, and Pták and Vrbová, is to study which properties of classical Toeplitz operators depend on their characteristic relation. Following this spirit, we give appropriate extensions of a number of results about Toeplitz operators. Namely, Wintner's theorem of invertibility of analytic Toeplitz operators, Widom and Devinatz's invertibility criteria for Toeplitz operators with unitary symbols, Hartman and Wintner's theorem about Toeplitz operator having a Fredholm symbol, Hartman and Wintner's estimate of the norm of a compactly perturbed Toeplitz operator, and the non-existence of compact classical Toeplitz operators due to Brown and Halmos.Dedicated to our friend Cora Sadosky on the occasion of her sixtieth birthday  相似文献

The asymptotics for determinants of Toeplitz and Wiener-Hopf operators with piecewise continuous symbols are obtained in this paper. If Wα(σ) is the Wiener-Hopf operator defined on L2(0, α) with piecewise continuous symbol σ having a finite number of discontinuities at ξr, then under appropriate conditions it is shown that det Wα(σ) ˜ G(σ)α αΣλr2K(σ), where
is a completely determined constant. An analogous result is obtained for Toeplitz operators. The main point of the paper is to obtain a result in the Wiener-Hopf case since the Toeplitz case had been treated earlier. In the Toeplitz case it was discovered that one could obtain asymptotics fairly easily for symbols with several singularities if, for each singularity one could find a single example of a symbol with a singularity of that kind whose associated asymptotics were known. Fortunately in the Toeplitz case such asymptotics were known. The difficulty in the Wiener-Hopf case is that there was not a single singular case where the determinant was explicitly known. This problem was overcome by using the fact that Wiener-Hopf determinants when discretized become Toeplitz determinants whose entries depend on the size of the matrix. No theorem on Toeplitz matrices can be applied directly but these theorems are modified to obtain the desired results.  相似文献

For the unilateral shift operator U on the Hardy space H2(T), we describe conditions on operators T, acting on H2(T), that are necessary and sufficient for the pair (U, T) to be jointly hyponormal. One necessary condition is that T be a Toeplitz operator. Consequently, we study certain nonanalytic symbols that give rise to Toeplitz operators hyponormal with the shift, and thereby obtain examples of noncommuting, jointly hyponormal pairs.Supported in part by a research grant from NSERC  相似文献

We study Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman spaceb p (B), whereB is the open unit ball inR n(n2), for 1<p. We give characterizations for the Toeplitz operators with positive symbols to be bounded, compact, and in Schatten classes. We also obtain a compactness criteria for the Toeplitz operators with continuous symbols.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the study of specific properties of Toeplitz operators with (unbounded, in general) radial symbolsa=a(r). Boundedness and compactness conditions, as well as examples, are given. It turns out that there exist non-zero symbols which generate zero Toeplitz operators. We characterize such symbols, as well as the class of symbols for whichT a =0 impliesa(r)=0 a.e. For each compact setM there exists a Toeplitz operatorT a such that spT a =ess-spT a =M. We show that the set of symbols which generate bounded Toeplitz operators no longer forms an algebra under pointwise multiplication.Besides the algebra of Toeplitz operators we consider the algebra of Weyl pseudodifferential operators obtained from Toeplitz ones by means of the Bargmann transform. Rewriting our Toeplitz and Weyl pseudodifferential operators in terms of the Wick symbols we come to their spectral decompositions. This work was partially supported by CONACYT Project 27934-E, México. The first author acknowledges the RFFI Grant 98-01-01023, Russia.  相似文献

We revisit the boundedness of Hankel and Toeplitz operators acting on the Hardy space H 1 and give a new proof of the old result stating that the Hankel operator H a is bounded if and only if a has bounded logarithmic mean oscillation. We also establish a sufficient and necessary condition for H a to be compact on H 1. The Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators on H 1 are studied for symbols in a Banach algebra similar to CH under mild additional conditions caused by the differences in the boundedness of Toeplitz operators acting on H 1 and H 2. This paper studies algebras of functions on the unit disk generated byH (D) and bounded harmonic functions. Using these algebras, we characterize compact semicommutators and commutators of Toeplitz operators with harmonic symbols on the Bergman space. Sufficient conditions are given for the finiteness of the discrete spectrum of the block Toeplitz operatorT A generated in the spaceH 2 n by self-adjoint matrix functionA(t)(|t|=1). These results are obtained by means of theorems concerning the spectrum of a perturbed self-adjoint operators.  相似文献

Operator ranges and non-cyclic vectors for the backward shift   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper we look at operators on the Hardy spaceH 2(D) with range containing all of the non-cyclic vectors of the backward shift. We show several classes of such operators must be surjective, including Toeplitz, Hankel and composition operators.  相似文献

In this note we prove some results on the m-accretivity of sums and products of linear operators. In particular we obtain the following theorem: LetA, B be two m-accretive operators on a reflexive Banach space. IfA is invertible and (A)–1 B is accretive thenBA –1 andA+B are m-accretive.  相似文献

LetM be a von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal tracial state and letH be a finite maximal subdiagonal subalgebra ofM. LetH 2 be the closure ofH in the noncommutative Lebesgue spaceL 2(M). We consider Toeplitz operators onH 2 whose symbol belong toM, and find that they possess several of the properties of Toeplitz operators onH 2( ) with symbol fromL ( ), including norm estimates, a Hartman-Wintner spectral inclusion theorem, and a characterisation of the weak* continuous linear functionals on the space of Toeplitz operators.  相似文献

Representations are given for the multiplicity of an analytic operator-valued function A at an isolated point z0 of the spectrum in the form of kernels and ranges of Hankel and Toeplitz matrices whose entries are derived from the Taylor coefficients of A and the Laurent coefficients of A−1 about z0. In two special cases the results can be expressed in terms of finite matrices: when A is a polynomial and when A−1 has a pole at z0. The latter case leads to the theory of Jordan chains.  相似文献

This paper mainly concerns abelian von Neumann algebras generated by Toeplitz operators on weighted Bergman spaces. Recently a family of abelian w*-closed Toeplitz algebras has been obtained (see [5,6,7,8]). We show that this algebra is maximal abelian and is singly generated by a Toeplitz operator with a “common” symbol. A characterization for Toeplitz operators with radial symbols is obtained and generalized to the high dimensional case. We give several examples for abelian von Neumann algebras in the case of high dimensional weighted Bergman spaces, which are different from the one dimensional case.  相似文献

A bounded linear operator TL(X) on aBanach space X is said to satisfy “Browder’s theorem” if the Browder spectrum coincides with the Weyl spectrum. TL(X) is said to satisfy “a-Browder’s theorem” if the upper semi-Browder spectrum coincides with the approximate point Weyl spectrum. In this note we give several characterizations of operators satisfying these theorems. Most of these characterizations are obtained by using a localized version of the single-valued extension property of T. In the last part we shall give some characterizations of operators for which “Weyl’s theorem” holds.  相似文献

We study the commutator of the multiplication and harmonic Bergman projection, Hankel and Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman spaces. The same type operators have been well studied on the analytic Bergman spaces. The main difficulty of this study is that the bounded harmonic function space is not an algebra! In this paper, we characterize theL p boundedness and compactness of these operators with harmonic symbols. Results about operators in Schatten classes, the cut-off phenomenon and general symbols are also included.Partially supported by a grant from the Research Grants Committee of the University of Alabama.  相似文献

This partly expository article develops the basic theory of unbounded Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space H 2, with emphasis on operators whose symbols are not square integrable. Unbounded truncated Toeplitz operators on coinvariant subspaces of H 2 are also studied. In memory of Paul R. Halmos  相似文献

Extending known results for the unit disk, we prove that for the unit ball there exist n+2 different cases of commutative C*-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators, acting on weighted Bergman spaces. In all cases the bounded measurable symbols of Toeplitz operators are invariant under the action of certain commutative subgroups of biholomorphisms of the unit ball. We exhibit a surprising but natural connection among the Bergman space structure, commutative algebras of Toeplitz operators and pencils of hyperbolic straight lines. The commutative C*-algebras of Toeplitz operators on the unit disk can be classified as follows. Each pencil of hyperbolic straight lines determines the set of symbols consisting of functions which are constant on corresponding cycles, the orthogonal trajectories to lines forming a pencil. It turns out that the C*-algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with this class of symbols is commutative. Submitted: January 15, 2001?Revised: February 7, 2002  相似文献

We study pure subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue. We show that various questions in this are closely related to questions involving approximation by functions satisfying and to the study ofgeneralized quadrature domains.First some general results are given that apply to all subnormal operators within this class; then we consider characterizing the analytic Toeplitz operators, the Hardy operators and cyclic subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue.  相似文献
