We study an M/G/1 queue with second optional service. Poisson arrivals with mean arrival rate (>0) all demand the first essential service, whereas only some of them demand the second optional service. The service times of the first essential service are assumed to follow a general (arbitrary) distribution with distribution function B(v) and that of the second optional service are exponential with mean service time 1/2 (2>0). The time-dependent probability generating functions have been obtained in terms of their Laplace transforms and the corresponding steady state results have been derived explicitly. Also the mean queue length and the mean waiting time have been found explicitly. The well-known Pollaczec–Khinchine formula and some other known results including M/D/1, M/Ek/1 and M/M/1 have been derived as particular cases.  相似文献

An M/G/1 retrial queue with two-phase service and feedback is studied in this paper, where the server is subject to starting failures and breakdowns during service. Primary customers get in the system according to a Poisson process, and they will receive service immediately if the server is available upon arrival. Otherwise, they will enter a retrial orbit and are queued in the orbit in accordance with a first-come-first-served (FCFS) discipline. Customers are allowed to balk and renege at particular times. All customers demand the first “essential” service, whereas only some of them demand the second “multi-optional” service. It is assumed that the retrial time, service time and repair time of the server are all arbitrarily distributed. The necessary and sufficient condition for the system stability is derived. Using a supplementary variable method, the steady-state solutions for some queueing and reliability measures of the system are obtained.  相似文献

An M[X]/G/1 retrial G-queue with single vacation and unreliable server is investigated in this paper. Arrivals of positive customers form a compound Poisson process, and positive customers receive service immediately if the server is free upon their arrivals; Otherwise, they may enter a retrial orbit and try their luck after a random time interval. The arrivals of negative customers form a Poisson process. Negative customers not only remove the customer being in service, but also make the server under repair. The server leaves for a single vacation as soon as the system empties. In this paper, we analyze the ergodical condition of this model. By applying the supplementary variables method, we obtain the steady-state solutions for both queueing measures and reliability quantities.  相似文献

We analyze an unreliable M/M/1 retrial queue with infinite-capacity orbit and normal queue. Retrial customers do not rejoin the normal queue but repeatedly attempt to access the server at i.i.d. intervals until it is found functioning and idle. The problem addressed in this paper is to compare the minimum cost of the two randomized control policies in the M/G/1 queueing system with an unreliable server, a second optional service, and general startup times. All arrived customers demand the first required service, and only some of the arrived customers demand a second optional service. The server needs a startup time before providing the first required service until the system becomes empty. After all customers are served in the queue, the server immediately takes a vacation and the system operates the (T, p)-policy or (p, N)-policy. For those two policies, the expected cost functions are established to determine the joint optimal threshold values of (T, p) and (p, N), respectively. In addition, we obtain the explicit closed form of the joint optimal solutions for those two policies. Based on the minimal cost, we show that the optimal (p, N)-policy indeed outperforms the optimal (T, p)-policy. Numerical examples are also presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

A steady-state analysis is given for M/G/1/K queues with combinedN-policy and setup times before service periods. The queue length distributions and the mean waiting times are obtained for the exhaustive service system, the gated service system, the E-limited service system, and the G-limited service system. In this paper we analyze a single removable and unreliable server in the N policy M/G/1 queueing system in which the server breaks down according to a Poisson process and the repair time obeys an arbitrary distribution. The method of maximum entropy is used to develop the approximate steady-state probability distributions of the queue length in the M/G(G)/1 queueing system, where the second and the third symbols denote service time and repair time distributions, respectively. A study of the derived approximate results, compared to the exact results for the M/M(M)/1, M/E2(E3)/1, M/H2(H3)/1 and M/D(D)/1 queueing systems, suggest that the maximum entropy principle provides a useful method for solving complex queueing systems. Based on the simulation results, we demonstrate that the N policy M/G(G)/1 queueing model is sufficiently robust to the variations of service time and repair time distributions.  相似文献

This paper deals with the steady state behaviour of an MX/G/1 retrial queue with an additional second phase of optional service and unreliable server where breakdowns occur randomly at any instant while serving the customers. Further concept of Bernoulli admission mechanism is also introduced in the model. This model generalizes both the classical MX/G/1 retrial queue subject to random breakdown and Bernoulli admission mechanism as well as MX/G/1 queue with second optional service and unreliable server. This paper discusses a class of M/M/1 queueing models in which the service time of a customer depends on the number of customers served in the current busy period. It is particularly suited for applications in which the server has kind of learning ability and warms up gradually. We present a simple and computationally tractable scheme which recursively determines the stationary probabilities of the queue length. Other performance measures such as the Laplace transform of the busy period are also obtained. For the firstN exceptional services model which can be considered as a special case of our model, we derive a closed-formula for the generating function of the stationary queue length distribution. Numerical examples are also provided.  相似文献

This paper examines an M[x]/G/1 queueing system with a randomized vacation policy and at most J vacations. Whenever the system is empty, the server immediately takes a vacation. If there is at least one customer found waiting in the queue upon returning from a vacation, the server will be immediately activated for service. Otherwise, if no customers are waiting for service at the end of a vacation, the server either remains idle with probability p or leaves for another vacation with probability 1 − p. This pattern continues until the number of vacations taken reaches J. If the system is empty by the end of the Jth vacation, the server becomes idle in the system. Whenever one or more customers arrive at server idle state, the server immediately starts providing service for the arrivals. Assume that the server may meet an unpredictable breakdown according to a Poisson process and the repair time has a general distribution. For such a system, we derive the distributions of important system characteristics, such as system size distribution at a random epoch and at a departure epoch, system size distribution at busy period initiation epoch, the distributions of idle period, busy period, etc. Finally, a cost model is developed to determine the joint suitable parameters (pJ) at a minimum cost, and some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.  相似文献

This paper deals with an BMAP/G/1 G-queues with second optional service and multiple vacations. Arrivals of positive customers and negative customers follow a batch Markovian arrival process (BMAP) and Markovian arrival process (MAP), respectively. After completion of the essential service of a customer, it may go for a second phase of service. The arrival of a negative customer removes the customer being in service. The server leaves for a vacation as soon as the system empties and is allowed to take repeated (multiple) vacations. By using the supplementary variables method and the censoring technique, we obtain the queue length distributions. We obtain the mean of the busy period based on the renewal theory.  相似文献

Using a generalization of the classical ballot theorem, Niu and Cooper [7] established a duality relation between the joint distribution of several variables associated with the busy cycle inM/G/1 (with a modified first service) and the corresponding joint distribution of several related variables in its dualGI/M/1. In this note, we generalize this duality relation toGI/G/1 queues with modified first services; this clarifies the original result, and shows that the generalized ballot theorem is superfluous for the duality relation.  相似文献

A study is made of an M/G/1-type queuing model in which customers receive one type of service until such time as, at the end of a service, the queue size is found to exceed a given value N, N ≥ 1. Then a second type of service is put into effect and remains in use until the queue size is reduced to a fixed value K, 0 ≤ K ≤ N. Equations are derived for the stationary probabilities both at departure times and at general times. An algorithm is developed that allows the rapid computation of the mean queue length and some important probabilities.  相似文献

This paper examines the steady state behaviour of anM/G/1 queue with a second optional service in which the server may provide two phases of heterogeneous service to incoming units. We derive the queue size distribution at stationary point of time and waiting time distribution. Moreover we derive the queue size distribution at the departure point of time as a classical generalization of the well knownPollaczek Khinchin formula. We consider a queueing system with two stations served by a single server in a cyclic manner. We assume that at most one customer can be served at a station when the server arrives at the station. The system is subject to service interuption that arises from server breakdown. When a server breakdown occurs, the server must be repaired before service can resume.
