Abstract— The interaction of octadecylrhodamine B (ORB), a lipid-conjugated dye, with polystyrene latex in aqueous dispersions has been investigated by fluorescence techniques. The dependence of the fluorescence intensity of ORB on the latex concentration indicates that the dye is effectively adsorbed onto the latex surface from the aqueous phase and that deaggregation to fluorescent monomers from the nonfluorescent multimers takes place cooperatively when the surface coverage of the dye is reduced to a critical value. The fluorescence lifetime increases on going from a homogeneous methanolic solution to the latex dispersion, showing that the mobility of the probe is suppressed on the latex surface. From the results of polarization measurements, it is proposed that ORB molecules are adsorbed on the latex surface by a side-on geometry. The influence of a nonionic surfactant, triton X-100, on the fluorescence intensities of ORB and rhodamine B in the latex dispersion is also investigated.  相似文献

The spectral (both absorption and fluorescence) and photoelectrochemical studies of a few selective dyes, namely, anionic erythrosin B, neutral riboflavin and cationic safranin O have been carried out in aqueous solution of triton X-100, a neutral surfactant. The results show that the ionic dyes, erythrosin B and safranin O form 1:1 electron donor-acceptor (EDA) or charge-transfer (CT) complexes with triton X-100 both in the ground and excited states, whereas neutral dye riboflavin in its excited state forms 1:1 complex with triton X-100. In these complexes, the dyes act as electron acceptors whereas triton X-100 acts as an electron donor. The fluorescence spectra of erythrosin B and safranin O in presence of triton X-100 show enhancement of fluorescence intensity with red and blue shifts respectively while riboflavin shows normal quenching of fluorescence. A good correlation has been found among photovoltage generation of the systems consisting of these dyes and triton X-100, spectral shift due to complex formation and thermodynamic properties of these complexes.  相似文献

The interaction of Procaine hydrochloride (PC) with cationic, anionic and non-ionic surfactants; cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and triton X-100, were investigated. The effect of ionic and non-ionic micelles on solubilization of Procaine in aqueous micellar solution of SDS, CTAB and triton X-100 were studied at pH 6.8 and 29°C using absorption spectrophotometry. By using pseudo-phase model, the partition coefficient between the bulk water and micelles, Kx, was calculated. The results showed that the micelles of CTAB enhanced the solubility of Procaine higher than SDS micelles (Kx = 96 and 166 for SDS and CTAB micelles, respectively) but triton X-100 did not enhanced the solubility of drug because of weak interaction with Procaine. From the resulting binding constant for Procaine-ionic surfactants interactions (Kb = 175 and 128 for SDS and CTAB surfactants, respectively), it was concluded that both electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions affect the interaction of surfactants with cationic procaine. Electrostatic interactions have a great role in the binding and consequently distribution of Procaine in micelle/water phases. These interactions for anionic surfactant (SDS) are higher than for cationic surfactant (CTAB). Gibbs free energy of binding and distribution of procaine between the bulk water and studied surfactant micelles were calculated.   相似文献

The ultrafiltration of two types of surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, anionic) and Tergitol NP-9 (nonylphenol polyethylene glycol ether, nonionic), using a 20 nm ZrO2 tubular membrane was investigated. The influence of crossflow velocity, temperature, pressure, and surfactant concentration on the permeate flux, close to and above the critical micelle concentration (CMC), is reported. Permeate flux and surfactant retention were measured in order to evaluate concentration polarization and fouling phenomena, and also the variation of these parameters due to surfactant/membrane interactions. High surfactant retentions (60–70%) were achieved depending on the feed concentration.  相似文献

The adsorption of a model quaternary ammonium surfactant, octyltrimethylammonium triflate, on Au(111) has been studied using capacity and chronoculometry methods. The surfactant adsorbs on the metal surface as a non‐dissociated ion pair at moderate potentials but can be desorbed by either positive or negative polarization. Within the adsorption region, two states are observed which correspond to a horizontal monolayer and a higher coverage vertically oriented film. Measurements of capacity transients upon potential steps reveal a slow organization of the molecular film. Although it is possible to equate the transients to known surfactant film aggregate geometries, the results are in disagreement with thermodynamic results. In comparison with other studies, the results indicate that the states of surfactant adsorption depend on surfactant chain length and electrode crystallography. A statistical model of the dielectric polarization of ionic water-in-oil microemulsions is proposed. The model makes it possible to describe the effect of temperature and dispersed phase content on the static dielectric permittivity behavior of the microemulsions at a region far below percolation. With the help of this model, the microemulsions formed with the surfactant, sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT), have been analyzed. The studied systems are considered to consist of nanometer-sized spherical non-interacting water droplets of equal size with negatively charged head groups , staying at the interface and positive counterions Na+, distributed in the electrical diffuse double layer of the droplet interior. It can be conjectured that two different mechanisms, that provide an increase of the static dielectric permittivity as a function of temperature, may take place. These may be attributed either to the aggregation of droplets or the temperature growth of polarizability of non-interacting and therefore non-aggregating droplets dispersed in oil. The results support the hypothesis that the experimental temperature behavior of dielectric polarization far below the percolation region is only due to the polarization of a single droplet and not to an aggregation. The droplet polarizability is proportional to the fluctuation mean-square dipole moment of a droplet. It is shown that this mean-square dipole moment and the corresponding value of the dielectric increment, depend upon the equilibrium distribution of counterions within a diffuse double layer. The density distribution of ions is determined by the degree of the dissociation of the ionic surfactant. The dissociation of the ionic surfactant in the system has been analyzed numerically. The relationship between the constant of dissociation and the experimental dielectric permittivity has been ascertained.  相似文献

Mixtures of water and glycerol provide popular matrices for low‐temperature spectroscopy of vitrified samples. However, they involve counterintuitive physicochemical properties, such as spontaneous nanoscopic phase separations (NPS) in solutions that appear macroscopically homogeneous. We demonstrate that such phenomena can substantially influence the efficiency of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) by factors up to 20 % by causing fluctuations in local concentrations of polarization agents (radicals). Thus, a spontaneous NPS of water/glycerol mixtures that takes place on time scales on the order of 30–60 min results in a confinement of polarization agents in nanoscopic water‐rich vesicles, which in return affects the DNP. Such effects were found for three common polarization agents, TEMPOL, AMUPol and Trityl.  相似文献

Interaction of amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) copolymers with anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) has been investigated in aqueous solution. Formation of mixed micelles has been confirmed by surface tension measurements, whereas the influence of the surfactant on the copolymer self-assembling has been studied by measurement of the 1H NMR self-diffusion coefficients and by small-angle neutron scattering. As a rule, the surfactant decreases the heterogeneity of the micellar structures formed by the copolymer in water. Moreover, increasing the content of SDS results in the increasingly more important extension of the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) corona chains and the copolymer micelle deaggregation. The stability of the micelles against SDS increases with the length of the hydrophobic block. Preliminary two-dimensional NMR measurements with nuclear Overhauser enhancement have confirmed the spatial vicinity between SDS and the constitutive blocks of the copolymer.  相似文献

用核磁共振测定自旋-晶格、自旋-自旋弛豫时间(t1,t2)、自扩散系数(D),用2DNOESY技术对正十四烷基硫酸钠、β-戊基壬烷基硫酸钠和β-戊基壬烷基聚氧乙烯醚(4)硫酸钠三类阴离子表面活性剂水溶液进行了观测,烷烃链各基团的t2/t1值给出了这三类分子形成各自胶束的水合层位点信息以及烷烃链在胶束内核中堆积程度的比较,自扩散系数结果表明,β-戊基壬烷基硫酸钠比正十四烷基硫酸钠形成的胶束的水合动力学半径小,但β-戊基壬烷基聚氧乙烯醚(4)硫酸钠形成的胶束水合动力学半径明显大于其它两类表面活性剂胶束,2DNOESY谱图提供了β-戊基壬烷基聚氧乙烯醚(4)硫酸钠分子中聚氧乙烯基键在胶束外层卷曲排列的信息.  相似文献

核磁共振(NMR)技术凭借其高空间分辨率,宽时间响应尺度和非侵入检测等特点,在化学分析和医疗诊断中发挥着重要的作用。但是原子核的低极化使现阶段NMR技术的灵敏度较低。超极化技术是一类可以有效提高NMR灵敏度的方法。其通过物理或化学过程把原子核自旋态推向一个偏离热力学平衡的状态,使NMR信号强度得到几个数量级的提升,极大地改善了灵敏度。多种超极化技术已经在各个领域崭露头角。本文用较为形象的描述对几种常见的超极化技术包括:动态核极化、光泵、光核极化、化学诱导动态核极化、仲氢诱导极化。从其精巧的原理和广泛的应用进行介绍,有助于人们对超极化技术的认知。  相似文献

Thermally stimulated polarization (TSP) and depolarization (TSD) experiments have been performed with two grades of polypropylene and some respective CaCO3-filled composites containing small amounts of nonionic surfactant (0–2 wt%). The effects of electrode blocking, electrode materials on the thermally stimulated currents, and reproducibility of the measurements have been studied. The effect of water vapor adsorbed from the ambient air on the AC dielectric properties and on the thermally stimulated polarization behavior has been determined.The addition of either CaCO3 or surfactant to PP decreases the intensity of the c depolarization current peak in the pre-melting region, while the presence of both components increases the current. Partial discharges are present in poly propylene/CaCO3 composites under high voltages if neither water vapor nor a coherent surfactant layer is present at the matrix/filler interface.A short literature survey is presented on the TSC studies of polyolefins and their composites, and various mechanisms responsible for the observed changes are discussed, including interfacial polarization, trap redistribution through nucleation, and oriented adsorption.  相似文献

提出了浊点萃取-分光光度法测定水样中结晶紫的新方法,研究了非离子表面活性剂Triton X-114浊点萃取的最佳条件,如pH、试剂用量、平衡时间和温度等。结晶紫的最大吸收波长为579 nm,标准曲线的线性范围是32~700 ng/mL,检出限是9.8 ng/mL,富集倍率为20。结晶紫的浓度在0.2和0.5μg/mL时的相对标准偏差分别为2.5%和1.7%(n=8)。应用本方法测定水样中的痕量结晶紫,平均回收率95.2%~98.1%。  相似文献

The imbibition of aqueous solutions of Triton X-100 in calcium fluoride columns has been studied in order to determine the influence of the interfacial adsorption of the surfactant in the capillary rise of the solutions. This system has been chosen because this surfactant behaves as non-adsorbable at the surface of this solid when it is in aqueous solution. The experiments have consisted of the measurement of the increase in the weight of the porous columns caused by the capillary rise of the solutions. The analysis of the results has been made through a modified expression of Washburn's equation that takes into account that the experimental increase in the weight is caused by the imbibition as well as by the development of a liquid meniscus around the bottom base of the columns. From this analysis, it has been deduced that the surfactant concentration does not influence on the imbibition rate, it being equal to the observed for water. However, it has been also proved that the contact angle depends on the surfactant concentration, taking decreasing values as the surface tension of the solutions decreases. In order to justify these findings, a study about the influence of the interfacial adsorption on the imbibition has been carried out. By means of them, it has been proved that the absence of adsorption at the solid-liquid interface is the reason that explains both the independence of the imbibition rate from the surfactant concentration and the decrease of the contact angle. Moreover, this fact indicates that the depletion of the surfactant molecules from the advancing meniscus, which has been normally adduced as the phenomenon causing the observed behaviour, has to be ruled out as the physical cause that justifies the behaviour found from the analysis of the imbibition experiments. As a corollary, it has been also stated that only if the adsorption at the solid interfaces happened, the imbibition of aqueous solution of surfactant in hydrophilic media could be influenced by the surfactant concentration.  相似文献

The influence of concentration of nonionic TRITON X-100 and anionic ATLAS G-3300 surfactants, and pH of medium on the size and zeta-potential of TiO2 particles in the water suspensions has been studied. Suspensions have been prepared by mixing of the titanium dioxide in the suitable mediums at 10 min and 6 h correspondingly. It was established, that the duration of mixing of the suspensions has an essential influence on the dependence of zeta-potential and size of particles versus concentration of surfactant. However, the duration of mixing does not influence the dependence of electrical conductivity and pH of the suspensions on concentration of surfactant. It is shown that anionic ATLAS G-3300 surfactant is more effective stabilizator of aqueous suspensions of titanium dioxide, than nonionic surfactants of TRITON X-100. It is found that hydrophobic interaction has important role in the processes of stabilization of suspensions for nonionic surfactant, and for anionic surfactant--moving of psi(delta)-planes into solution's depth.  相似文献

Shear-induced phase transitions in sucrose ester surfactant   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The behavior of a commercial sucrose stearate blend has been examined by means of various experimental techniques (differential scanning calorimetry, light polarization and electron microscopy, and rotational rheometry). A partial phase diagram in water has been established. It shows that the binary system forms a lamellar lyotropic mesophase and that the melting behavior is characterized by a lamellar gel-lamellar liquid crystalline phase transition. The identification of the liquid crystalline phase has been carried out from textural observation using polarization microscopy and freeze-fracture electron microscopy. At low surfactant concentrations, the phase transition has been followed through rheological experiments. Furthermore, a shear-induced transition, from the lamellar phase (sheets of surfactant bilayers including a few large multilamellar vesicles) to an onion phase, has been observed above a critical temperature of 43 degrees C. The vesicles so obtained did not relax over more than 3 weeks. The presence of a small ratio of distearate in the sugar ester blend seems to be the key to vesicle formation at low surface-active material concentration.  相似文献

We present a unique analysis tool for the selective detection of local water inside soft molecular assemblies (hydrophobic cores, vesicular bilayers, and micellar structures) suspended in bulk water. Through the use of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP), the (1)H NMR signal of water is amplified, as it interacts with stable radicals that possess approximately 658 times higher spin polarization. We utilized stable nitroxide radicals covalently attached along the hydrophobic tail of stearic acid molecules that incorporate themselves into surfactant-based micelle or vesicle structures. Here, we present a study of local water content and fluid viscosity inside oleate micelles and vesicles and Triton X-100 micelles to serve as model systems for soft molecular assemblies. This approach is unique because the amplification of the NMR signal is performed in bulk solution and under ambient conditions with site-specific spin labels that only detect the water that is directly interacting with the localized spin labels. Continuous wave (cw) electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis provides rotational dynamics of the spin-labeled molecular chain segments and local polarity parameters that can be related to hydration properties, whereas we show that DNP-enhanced (1)H NMR analysis of fluid samples directly provides translational water dynamics and permeability of the local environment probed by the spin label. Our technique therefore has the potential to become a powerful analysis tool, complementary to cw ESR, to study hydration characteristics of surfactant assemblies, lipid bilayers, or protein aggregates, where water dynamics is a key parameter of their structure and function. In this study, we find that there is significant penetration of water inside the oleate micelles with a higher average local water viscosity ( approximately 1.8 cP) than in bulk water, and Triton X-100 micelles and oleate vesicle bilayers mostly exclude water while allowing for considerable surfactant chain motion and measurable water permeation through the soft structure.  相似文献

Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) magic‐angle spinning (MAS) solid‐state NMR (ssNMR) spectroscopy has the potential to enhance NMR signals by orders of magnitude and to enable NMR characterization of proteins which are inherently dilute, such as membrane proteins. In this work spin‐labeled lipid molecules (SL‐lipids), when used as polarizing agents, lead to large and relatively homogeneous DNP enhancements throughout the lipid bilayer and to an embedded lung surfactant mimetic peptide, KL4. Specifically, DNP MAS ssNMR experiments at 600 MHz/395 GHz on KL4 reconstituted in liposomes containing SL‐lipids reveal DNP enhancement values over two times larger for KL4 compared to liposome suspensions containing the biradical TOTAPOL. These findings suggest an alternative sample preparation strategy for DNP MAS ssNMR studies of lipid membranes and integral membrane proteins.  相似文献
