The local solids holdup and local particle velocity in a Countercurrent Liquid-upward and Solids-downward Fluidized Bed (CCLSFB) were investigated in details using optical fiber probes with two different models in a Plexiglas column of 1.5 m in height and 7.0 cm in inner diameter. A new flow regime map including fluidized bed, transition, and flooding regimes was established. The axial solids holdup distribution is almost uniform at low liquid velocity and/or solids flowrate and becomes less uniform with higher solids holdup at the top of the column after the operating liquid velocity is reaching the flooding velocity. The radial solids holdup profile is also nearly flat with a slightly lower solids holdup in the near-wall region at low liquid velocity and solids flowrate but becomes nonuniform as the operating liquid velocity approaches the flooding velocity. Two equations were also proposed to correlate radial local solids holdups. The descending particle velocity in CCLSFB increases with the decrease of the liquid velocity and the increase of the solids flowrate. A generally uniform particle velocity distribution was found in the axial direction, as well as in the radial direction except for a small decrease near the wall. These results on the local solids flow structure would provide basic information and theoretical supports for the design and industrial application of CCLSFB.  相似文献

A modified wake model was proposed for the newly developed bubble-induced three-phase inverse fluidized bed (BIFB), by combining the generalized wake model and the gas-perturbed liquid model. On the basis of the modified wake model, the solids and liquid holdups and the complete fluidization gas velocity in BIFB system have been successfully predicted with two established correlations. The predictions achieved very good agreements with the experimental data.  相似文献

Some hydrodynamic aspects of 3-phase inverse fluidized bed   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Hydrodynamics of 3-phase inverse fluidized bed is studied experimentally using low density particles for different liquid and gas velocities. The hydrodynamic characteristics studied include pressure drop, minimum liquid and gas fluidization velocities and phase holdups. The minimum liquid fluidization velocity determined using the bed pressure gradient, decreases with increase in gas velocity. The axial profiles of phase holdups shows that the liquid holdup increases along the bed height, whereas the solid holdup decreases down the bed. However, the gas holdup is almost uniform in the bed.  相似文献

Most hydrodynamic fluidized bed models, including CFD codes, neglect any effects of the plenum chamber volume.Experiments were performed in a 0.13 m ID fluidization column to determine plenum chamber volume effects on fluidized bed hydrodynamics for FCC and glass particles. Two low-pressure-drop distributors were used, one with a single orifice, and the other with 33 orifices and the same total open area as the single orifice. The results show two peaks in the frequency spectra for the single-orifice distributor,...  相似文献

Continuous segregation of binary heterogeneous solids (different density mixtures) is carried out in a gas–solid fluidized bed to study the effects of gas velocity, solids feed rate, feed composition and density difference of solids on the separation factor (recovery of flotsam at top outlet) and the quality of the product (purity of flotsam at top outlet) in a continuous fast-fluidized bed. The holdup of the bed material is obtained in each experimental run. It is observed that the separation factor decreases with increase in solids feed rate or density difference of solids, and increases with gas velocity or proportion of flotsam in the feed. The quality of the product decreases with increase in gas velocity or solids flow rate, and increases with feed composition or density difference of solids. The experimental results show that the separation factor and the quality of the product are more sensitive to gas velocity than to other operating parameters. Empirical correlations for predicting the separation factor and quality of the product are proposed based on the Richards model for individual flotsam mass fraction in the feed, and the predictions agree satisfactorily with the present experimental data.  相似文献

This paper reports on the hydrodynamics of a bubble-induced inverse fluidized bed reactor, using a nanobubble tray gas distributor, where solid particles are fluidized only by an upward gas flow. Increasing the gas velocity, the fixed layer of particles initially packed at the top of the liquid starts to move downwards, due to the rise of bubbles in this system, and then gradually expands downwards until fully suspended. The axial local pressure drops and standard deviation were examined to delineate the flow regime comprehensively under different superficial gas velocities. Four flow regimes (fixed bed regime, initial fluidization regime, expanded regime, and post-homogeneous regime) were observed and three transitional gas velocities (the initial fluidization velocity, minimum fluidization velocity, and homogeneous fluidization velocity) were identified to demarcate the flow regime. Three correlations were developed for the three transitional velocities. As the fine bubbles generated from the nanobubble tray gas distributor are well distributed in the entire column, the bed expansion process of the particles is relatively steady.  相似文献

Fluidized Carbon Bed Cooling (FCBC) is an innovative investment casting process for directional solidification of superalloy components. It takes advantage of a fluidized bed with a base of small glassy carbon beads for cooling and other low-density particles that form an insulating layer by floating to the bed surface. This so-called “Dynamic Baffle” protects the fluidized bed from the direct heat input from the high-temperature heating zone and provides the basis for an improved bed microstructure. The prerequisites for a stable casting process are stable fluidization conditions where neither collapse of the bed nor particle blow out at excessive bubble formation occur. This work aimed to investigate the fluidization behavior of spherical carbon bed material in argon and air at temperatures between 20 to 350 °C. Systematic studies at reduced pressures using the FCBC prototype device were performed to understand the stable fluidization conditions at all stages of the investment casting process. The particle shape factor and size distribution characterization and the measurement of the powder’s minimum fluidization velocity and bed voidage show that this material can be fully utilized as a cooling and buoyancy medium during the FCBC process.  相似文献

In the case of coupled, two-phase flow of fluids in porous media, the governing equations show that there are four independent generalized permeability coefficients which have to be measured separately. In order to specify these four coefficients at a specific saturation, it is necessary to conduct two types of flow experiments. The two types of flow experiments used in this study are cocurrent and countercurrent, steady-state permeability experiments. It is shown that, by taking this approach, it is possible to define the four generalized permeability coefficients in terms of the conventional cocurrent and countercurrent effective permeabilities for each phase. It is demonstrated that a given generalized phase permeability falls about midway between the conventional, cocurrent effective permeability for that phase, and that for the countercurrent flow of the same phase. Moreover, it is suggested that the conventional effective permeability for a given phase can be interpreted as arising out of the effects of two types of viscous drag: that due to the flow of a given phase over the solid surfaces in the porous medium and that due to momentum transfer across the phase 1-phase 2 interfaces in the porous medium. The magnitude of the viscous coupling is significant, contributing at least 15% to the total conventional cocurrent effective permeability for both phases. Finally, it is shown that the nontraditional generalized permeabilities which arise out of viscous coupling effects cannot equal one another, even when the viscosity ratio is unity and the surface tension is zero.  相似文献

The predictive capabilities of CFD techniques as applied to solid–liquid stirred vessels are investigated. The distribution of solid particles was simulated in three baffled stirred tanks agitated with single and multiple impellers. Suspensions of glass beads of different diameters and average concentration up to 6?vol. % in water were studied. The simulations of solid–liquid suspensions in the stirred vessels were performed by using fully predictive approaches. Eulerian multiphase models were adopted for modelling the solid–liquid flow, coupled with three different extensions of the standard k-? model to the case of multiphase flows. The simulated particle axial concentration profiles are compared with experimental data and critically discussed. The most successful simulation strategy and one possible implementation are described.  相似文献

Experimental system hydraulic resistance measurements on a scale air heater unit have highlighted the excessive hydraulic resistance of typical industry configurations. Both poor header inlet conditions and large header expansion angles are shown to contribute to system hydraulic resistance magnitudes 20-100% higher than suitable benchmark cases. Typical centrifugal fan system efficiencies well under 80% multiply the system resistance effects resulting in larger fan power penalties. Velocity profile measurements taken upstream and downstream of the test heat exchanger under flow maldistribution conditions provide insight into the flow maldistribution spreading caused by the heat exchanger resistance. The anisotropic resistance of the plate fin-and-tube heat exchanger is shown to result in resistance induced flow dispersion being concentrated in the axis parallel to the plate fins.  相似文献

To improve the separation efficiency of air dense medium fluidized beds for dry coal preparation, a gas-vibro fluidized bed has been proposed in which magnetic powder is used as the heavy medium. Pressure fluctuations in the gas-vibro fluidized bed were investigated using time- and frequency-domain analysis methods. The relationship between pressure fluctuations, bubble behavior, and separation efficiency was established. The low amplitude of the standard deviation, the power spectral density (PSD), the incoherent-output PSD, and the high amplitude of the coherent-output PSD, which corresponds to the bubble behavior in the bed, were improved for coal preparation. The coal ash content was reduced from 42.55% to 16.54% by using the gas-vibro fluidized bed.  相似文献

In this paper, the pressure fluctuation in a fluidized bed was measured and processed via standard deviation and power spectrum analysis to investigate the dynamic behavior of the transition from the bubbling to turbulent regime. Two types (Geldart B and D) of non-spherical particles, screened from real bed materials, and their mixture were used as the bed materials. The experiments were conducted in a semi-industrial testing apparatus. The experimental results indicated that the fluidization characteristics of the non-spherical Geldart D particles differed from that of the spherical particles at gas velocities beyond the transition velocity Uc. The standard deviation of the pressure fluctuation measured in the bed increased with the gas velocity, while that measured in the plenum remained constant. Compared to the coarse particles, the fine particles exerted a stronger influence on the dynamic behavior of the fluidized bed and promoted the fluidization regime transition from bubbling toward turbulent. The power spectrum of the pressure fluctuation was calculated using the auto-regressive (AR) model; the hydrodynamics of the fluidized bed were characterized by the major frequency of the power spectrum of the pressure fluctuation. By combining the standard deviation analysis, a new method was proposed to determine the transition velocity Uk via the analysis of the change in the major frequency. The first major frequency was observed to vary within the range of 1.5 to 3 Hz.  相似文献

Pressure drop is an essential parameter in the operation of conical spouted beds (CSB) and depends on its geometric factors and materials used. Irregular materials, like biomass, are complex to treat and, unlike other gas–solid contact methods, CSB turn out to be a suitable technology for their treatment. Artificial neural networks were used in this study for the prediction of operating and peak pressure drops, and their performance has been compared with that of empirical correlations reported in the literature. Accordingly, a multi-layer perceptron network with backward propagation was used due to its ability to model non-linear multivariate systems. The fitting of the experimental data of both operating and peak pressure drop was significantly better than those reported in the literature, specifically in the case of the peak pressure drop, with R2 being 0.92. Therefore, artificial neural networks have been proven suitable for the prediction of pressure drop in CSB.  相似文献

We present experimental investigations and numerical simulations of a pseudo-2D riser. Experiments were performed for various airflow rates, particle types/diameters, and particle size distributions. Pressure distributions along the wall of the riser were measured. Additional measurements from a smaller pseudo-2D riser (Kallio et al., 2009; Shah et al., 2012) were used to analyze horizontal solids volume fraction profiles. The experimental data were compared with simulation results carried out using an Euler–Euler approach. A mesh sensitivity study was conducted for numerical simulations and effects associated with simplifying real 3D geometry to a 2D model were examined. In addition, the effect of using an algebraic equation to represent the granular temperature versus a full partial differential equation also was examined for numerical simulations. Results showed small but significant near-wall sensitivity of the flow variables to mesh size. Substantial differences in mean pressure, solids distribution, and solid velocities were obtained, when 2D and 3D simulation results were compared. Finally, applying the simplified granular temperature equation for turbulent fluidization and for dilute-phase transport can lead to incorrect predictions in models.  相似文献

Modern production processes in chemical, pharmaceutical and biological industries are characterized by complex process structures, which consist of different apparatuses and process steps. Modeling the entire process requires simulating all units altogether, while taking into account interconnections between them. Nevertheless, in the area of solids processing, there is nowadays an unfilled gap from the side of computer support of process modeling in allowing effective optimization and prediction of the behavior of the whole plant. This paper presents a tool for flowsheet simulation which allows the simulation of the stationary behavior of complex processes dealing with solids and its extension towards dynamic modeling. Also, a new simulation concept is proposed on the basis of the multiscale approach. On the macroscale, flowsheet simulation is performed with the help of the SolidSim system. Parameters for the macromodels in SolidSim are predicted by microscale simulation. The models for the two scales are then coupled by inter-scale communication laws. Application of the proposed modeling concept is shown by an example of fluidized bed granulation.  相似文献

This paper studies a novel gas cyclone with a cylindrical filter face installed in the center from the vortex finder to the bottom hopper. The experimental results show that this composite cyclone has a higher collection efficiency and a lower pressure drop than the original cyclone. The mechanisms for the improvement are analyzed by both physical experiments and numerical simulations. By measuring dust samples collected at different places it is revealed that the center filter can prevent fine particles from entering the inner vortex and escaping, which accounts for the increase of the collection efficiency. In addition, the flow field of the composite cyclone is simulated by computational fluid dynamics and compared with that of the original cyclone. The analysis shows that with the filter layer installed, the swirling flow disappears in the vortex finder, which decreases the kinetic energy dissipation and hence lowers the pressure drop.  相似文献

In-line flow segregators based on axial induction of swirling flow have important applications in chemical, process and petroleum production industries. In the later, the segregation of gas bubbles and/or water droplets dispersed into viscous oil by swirling pipe flow may be beneficial by either providing a pre-separation mechanism (bubble and/or drop coalescer) or, in the case of water-in-oil dispersions, by causing a water-lubricated flow pattern to establish in the pipe (friction reduction). Works addressing these applications are rare in the literature. In this paper, the features and capabilities of swirling pipe flow axially induced by a vane-type swirl generator were investigated both numerically and experimentally. The numerical analysis has been carried out using a commercial CFD package for axial Reynolds numbers less than 2000. Pressure drop, tangential and axial velocity components as well as swirl intensity along a 5 cm i.d. size and 3 m long pipe were computed. Single phase flow experiments have been performed using a water–glycerin solution of 54 mPa s viscosity and 1210 kg/m3 density as working fluid. The numerical predictions of the pressure drop were compared with the experimental data and agreement could be observed within the range of experimental conditions. The experiments confirmed that swirl flow leads to much higher friction factors compared with theoretical values for non-swirl (i.e. purely axial) flow. Furthermore, the addition of a conical trailing edge reduces vortex breakdown. Visualization of the two-phase swirling flow pattern was achieved by adding different amounts of air to the water–glycerin solution upstream the swirl generator.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of an experimental study that was carried out to determine turbulent friction and heat transfer characteristics of four spirally corrugated tubes, which have various geometrical parameters, with water and oil as the working fluids. Experiments were performed under conditions of Reynolds number varying from 6000 to 93,000 for water, and from 3200 to 19,000 for oil, respectively. The results show that the thermal performance of these tubes was superior compared to a smooth tube, but the heat transfer enhancements were not as large as the friction factor increases. Friction factors and heat transfer coefficient in these rough tubes were analyzed on the basis of momentum and heat transfer analogy, and the correlations obtained were compared with the present data and also the results of previous investigators. A mathematical model to evaluate the performance of spirally corrugated tube, which takes account of the large variation of fluid Prandtl number with temperature, was developed by the extension of previous work of Bergles and Webb. The results reported enable practical designs with standard products and optimization of tube geometry for specific conditions.  相似文献

Microstructure heat exchangers have unique properties that make them useful for numerous scientific and industrial applications. The power transferred per unit volume is mainly a function of the distance between heat source and heat sink—the smaller this distance, the better the heat transfer. Another parameter governing for the heat transfer is the lateral characteristic dimension of the heat transfer structure; in the case of microchannels, this is the hydraulic diameter. Decreasing this characteristic dimension into the range of several 10s of micrometers leads to very high values for the heat transfer rate.

Another possible way of increasing the heat transfer rate of a heat exchanger is changing the flow regime. Microchannel devices usually operate within the laminar flow regime. By changing from microchannels to three dimensional structures, or to planar geometries with microcolumn arrays, a significant increase of the heat transfer rate can be achieved.

Microheat exchangers in the form of both microchannel devices (with different hydraulic diameters) and microcolumn array devices (with different microcolumn layouts) are presented and compared. Electrically heated microchannel devices are presented, and industrial applications are briefly described.  相似文献
