We prove that a Banach space X has the metric approximation property if and only if , the space of all finite rank operators, is an ideal in , the space of all bounded operators, for every Banach space Y. Moreover, X has the shrinking metric approximation property if and only if is an ideal in for every Banach space Y.Similar results are obtained for u-ideals and the corresponding unconditional metric approximation properties.  相似文献

We introduce a concept bounded reflexivity for a subspace of operators on a normed space. We explore the properties of bounded reflexivity, study the similarities and differences between bounded reflexivity and the usual reflexivity for a subspace of operators. As applications of bounded reflexivity, we give alternative proofs of some well known results about positivity and complete positivity of elementary operators.  相似文献

We introduce and investigate the weak metric approximation property of Banach spaces which is strictly stronger than the approximation property and at least formally weaker than the metric approximation property. Among others, we show that if a Banach space has the approximation property and is 1-complemented in its bidual, then it has the weak metric approximation property. We also study the lifting of the weak metric approximation property from Banach spaces to their dual spaces. This enables us, in particular, to show that the subspace of c0, constructed by Johnson and Schechtman, does not have the weak metric approximation property. The research of the second-named author was partially supported by Estonian Science Foundation Grant 5704 and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.  相似文献

A Krein operator is a positive operator, acting on a partially ordered Banach space, that carries positive elements to strong units. The purpose of this paper is to present a survey of the remarkable spectral properties (most of which were established by M.G. Krein) of these operators. The proofs presented here seem to be simpler than the ones existing in the literature. Some new results are also obtained. For instance, it is shown that every positive operator on a Krein space which is not a multiple of the identity operator has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace. Dedicated to the memory of M.G. In this review we describe the basic structure of positive continuous one-parameter semigroups acting on ordered Banach spaces. The review is in two parts.First we discuss the general structure of ordered Banach spaces and their ordered duals. We examine normality and generation properties of the cones of positive elements with particular emphasis on monotone properties of the norm. The special cases of Banach lattices, order-unit spaces, and base-norm spaces, are also examined.Second we develop the theory of positive strongly continuous semigroups on ordered Banach spaces, and positive weak*-continuous semigroups on the dual spaces. Initially we derive analogues of the Feller-Miyadera-Phillips and Hille-Yosida theorems on generation of positive semigroups. Subsequently we analyse strict positivity, irreducibility, and spectral properties, in parallel with the Perron-Frobenius theory of positive matrices.  相似文献

Matrix ordered operator spaces are ‘non-commutative Banach spaces equipped with a non-commutative order’. Examples include C*-algebras as well as their duals. In this article, we define and intrinsically characterize the multiplier algebra for this class of spaces and briefly tackle the problem of extending K-theory to this context.  相似文献

We establish the equivalence of the following three properties of a -algebra A. (a) Every positive elementary operator on A is completely positive. (b) The norm and the cb-norm coincide for every elementary operator on A. (c) A is an extension of an antiliminal -algebra by an abelian one. We introduce in a natural way the notion of measure with bounded variation with respect to a normed ideal of operators and prove that for each maximal normed ideal of operators (, ), is true the following result: If UL(C(T,X), Y) with G the representing measure of U and G : Σ → ((X, Y),) has bounded variation, then U ∈ (C(T,X), Y). As an application of this result we prove that an injective tensor product of an integral operator with an operator belonging to a maximal normed ideal of operators (,) belongs also to (, ).  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce several measures determined by a given finite directed graph. To construct σ-algebras for those measures, we consider several algebraic structures induced by G; (i) the free semigroupoid of the shadowed graph (ii) the graph groupoid of G, (iii) the disgram set and (iv) the reduced diagram set . The graph measures determined by (i) is the energy measure measuing how much energy we spent when we have some movements on G. The graph measures determined by (iii) is the diagram measure measuring how long we moved consequently from the starting positions (which are vertices) of some movements on G. The graph measures and determined by (ii) and (iv) are the (graph) groupoid measure and the (quotient-)groupoid measure, respectively. We show that above graph measurings are invariants on shadowed graphs of finite directed graphs. Also, we will consider the reduced diagram measure theory on graphs. In the final chapter, we will show that if two finite directed graphs G 1 and G 2 are graph-isomorphic, then the von Neumann algebras L (μ 1) and L (μ 2) are *-isomorphic, where μ 1 and μ 2 are the same kind of our graph measures of G 1 and G 2, respectively. If E and F are real Banach lattices and there is an algebra and order isomorphism Φ:(E)(F) between their respective ordered Banach algebras of regular operators then there is a linear order isomorphism U:EF such that Φ(T) =UTU−1 for all T(E).  相似文献

We continue the development of part I. The Riesz representation theorem is proved without assuming local convexity. This theorem is applied to give sufficient conditions for an operator (continuous or otherwise) to be spectral. A uniqueness problem is pointed out and the function calculus is extended to the case of several variables. A Radon—Nikodym theorem is proved.  相似文献

An abstract formulation of generalized multiresolution analyses is presented, and those GMRAs that come from multiwavelets are characterized. As an application of this abstract formulation, a constructive procedure is developed, which produces all wavelet sets in n relative to an integral expansive matrix.  相似文献

We interpret the Central Limit Theorem as a fixed point theorem for a certain operator, and consider the problem of linearizing this operator. In classical as well as in free probability theory [VDN92], we consider two methods giving such a linearization, and interpret the result as a weak form of the CLT. In the classical case the analysis involves dilation operators; in the free case more general composition operators appear. Received: 3 December 1997  相似文献

This paper is devoted to dual operator algebras, that isw *-closed algebras of bounded operators on Hilbert space. We investigate unital dual operator algebrasA with the following weak* similarity property: for every Hilbert spaceH, anyw *-continuous unital homomorphism fromA intoB(H) is completely bounded and thus similar to a contractive one. We develop a notion of dual similarity degree for these algebras, in analogy with some recent work of Pisier on the similarity problem on operator algebras.  相似文献

This is a companion to recent papers of the authors; here we construct the ‘noncommutative Shilov boundary’ of a (possibly nonunital) selfadjoint ordered space of Hilbert space operators. The morphisms in the universal property of the boundary preserve order. As an application, we consider ‘maximal’ and ‘minimal’ unitizations of such ordered operator spaces.  相似文献

Part I of this paper is devoted to the general theory of spectral measures in topological vector spaces. We extend the Hilbert space theory to this setting and generalize the notion of spectral measure in some useful ways to provide a framework for Part II, etc.  相似文献

Strongly additive and non-strongly additive vector measures are studied in the context of spaces of operators. Also, order properties and embedding properties of Banach lattices are linked to the notion of strong additivity.  相似文献

Let A and B be C*-algebras. A linear map T : A → B is said to be a *-homomorphism at an element z ∈ A if ab* = z in A implies T (ab*) = T (a)T (b)* = T (z), and c*d = z in A gives T (c*d) = T (c)*T (d) = T (z). Assuming that A is unital, we prove that every linear map T : A → B which is a *-homomorphism at the unit of A is a Jordan *-homomorphism. If A is simple and infinite, then we establish that a linear map T : A → B is a *-homomorphism if and only if T is a *-homomorphism at the unit of A. For a general unital C*-algebra A and a linear map T : A → B, we prove that T is a *-homomorphism if, and only if, T is a *-homomorphism at 0 and at 1. Actually if p is a non-zero projection in A, and T is a ?-homomorphism at p and at 1 ? p, then we prove that T is a Jordan *-homomorphism. We also study bounded linear maps that are *-homomorphisms at a unitary element in A.  相似文献
