We examine the possibility of rolling tachyon to play the dual role of inflaton at early epochs and dark matter at late times. We argue that enough inflation can be generated with the rolling tachyon either by invoking the large number of branes or brane world assisted inflation. The interaction between the intersecting noncommutative D-branes (or membranes) is investigated within the M(atrix) theory. We first evaluate the spectrum of the off-diagonal fluctuation and see that there is a tachyon mode, which signals the instability of the intersecting branes. We next explain in detail how the tachyon modes (which are the off-diagonal fluctuations) can be combined with the original branes (which are the diagonal elements) to become a new diagonal matrix, which then represents the new recombined configurations after the tachyon condensation. The tachyon condensation configurations of the noncommutative branes we find are different from those of the commutative cases studied in the previous literatures.  相似文献

By calculating various disk level S-matrix elements and studying in details their momentum expansions, we have extracted some of the couplings in tachyon DBI action and Wess–Zumino terms of the non-BPS branes, and their higher derivative corrections. In particular, we have found that there is exact consistency between field theory and string theory tachyon pole of S-matrix element of one RR and three tachyons provided that one takes into account the fact that the tachyon vertex operator in 0 picture to be along the Pauli matrix σ1σ1 whereas the tachyon in −1 picture to be along the σ2σ2 direction. This internal CP factors should be included in the tachyon DBI part of the effective action.  相似文献

We analyze the possible configurations of D-branes breaking on other D-branes. We describe these configurations in the context of a brane–antibrane effective theory in two ways. First as a tachyon configuration representing a non-trivial bundle over the sphere surrounding the end of the brane à la Polchinski, and second in terms of tachyon solitons using homotopy theory. Surprisingly, in some cases there are topologically stable configurations of broken branes.  相似文献

We review the worldsheet analysis for intersecting branes with focus on small and large angles. For small angles, we review the Yang‐Mills fluctuation analysis in [1] and find an additional family of massless modes. They are the components of a Goldstone scalar corresponding to the spontaneously broken U(2)‐gauge symmetry. For branes at large angles, we derive an effective tachyon field theory from BSFT results. We show how the gauge symmetry of this system implies a mass spectrum which is consistent with the worldsheet analysis.  相似文献

Using the boundary state formalism, we study a moving Dp-brane in a partially compact space-time in the presence of background fields: the Kalb-Ramond field B μν, a U(1) gauge field A α, and the tachyon field. The boundary state enables us to obtain the interaction amplitude of two branes with the above back-ground fields. The branes are parallel or perpendicular to each other. Because of the presence of background fields, compactification of some space-time directions, motion of the branes, and the arbitrariness of the dimensions of the branes, the system is rather general. Due to the tachyon fields and velocities of the branes, the behavior of the interaction amplitude reveals obvious differences from the conventional behavior.  相似文献

We put forward an idea that the boundary entropy associated with integrable massless flow of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) is identified with tachyon action of boundary string field theory. We show that the temperature parametrizing a massless flow in the TBA formalism can be identified with tachyon energy for the classical action at least near the ultraviolet fixed point, i.e., the open string vacuum.  相似文献

Starting from a previously collected set of tachyon-free closed strings, we search for N=2N=2 minimal model orientifold spectra which contain the standard model and are free of tachyons and tadpoles at lowest order. For each class of tachyon-free closed strings – bulk supersymmetry, automorphism invariants or Klein bottle projection – we do indeed find non-supersymmetric and tachyon free chiral brane configurations that contain the standard model. However, a tadpole-cancelling hidden sector could only be found in the case of bulk supersymmetry. Although about half of the examples we have found make use of branes that break the bulk space–time supersymmetry, the resulting massless open string spectra are nevertheless supersymmetric in all cases. Dropping the requirement that the standard model be contained in the spectrum, we find chiral tachyon and tadpole-free solutions in all three cases, although in the case of bulk supersymmetry all massless spectra are supersymmetric. In the other two cases we find truly non-supersymmetric spectra, but a large fraction of them are nevertheless partly or fully supersymmetric at the massless level.  相似文献

At the present time a number of studies [1–6] have considered the possible properties of ultrarelativistic tachyon particles. In particular, [5, 6] were dedicated to analysis of the radiation of charged tachyons in a vacuum. The goal of the present study is to analyze the radiation emitted by charged tachyons in an immobile dispersive medium. We will consider the following problem: a charged particle moves with velocity v in an immobile dispersive medium and at time t=0 decays to neutral particles and a charged tachyon which moves at a velocity v0. We probe doubled geometry with dual fundamental branes, i.e. solitons. Restricting ourselves first to solitonic branes with more than two transverse directions we find that the doubled geometry requires an effective wrapping rule for the solitonic branes which is dual to the wrapping rule for fundamental branes. This dual wrapping rule can be understood by the presence of Kaluza-Klein monopoles. Extending our analysis to supersymmetric solitonic branes with less than or equal to two transverse directions we show that such solitons are precisely obtained by applying the same dual wrapping rule to these cases as well. This extended wrapping rule cannot be explained by the standard Kaluza-Klein monopole alone. Instead, it suggests the existence of a class of generalized Kaluza-Klein monopoles in ten-dimensional string theory.  相似文献

We investigate a theory in which fundamental objects are branes described in terms of higher grade coordinates encoding both the motion of a brane as a whole, and its volume evolution. We thus formulate a dynamics which generalizes the dynamics of the usual branes. Geometrically, coordinates and associated coordinate frame fields {} extend the notion of geometry from spacetime to that of an enlarged space, called Clifford space or C-space. If we start from four-dimensional spacetime, then the dimension of C-space is 16. The fact that C-space has more than four dimensions suggests that it could serve as a realization of Kaluza-Klein idea. The “extra dimensions” are not just the ordinary extra dimensions, they are related to the volume degrees of freedom, therefore they are physical, and need not be compactified. Gauge fields are due to the metric of Clifford space. It turns out that amongst the latter gauge fields there also exist higher grade, antisymmetric fields of the Kalb–Ramond type, and their non-Abelian generalization. All those fields are naturally coupled to the generalized branes, whose dynamics is given by a generalized Howe–Tucker action in curved C-space.  相似文献

Recently, Li and Liu have studied global monopole of tachyon in a four dimensional static space–time. We analyze the motion of massless and massive particles around tachyon monopole. Interestingly, for the bending of light rays due to tachyon monopole instead of getting angle of deficit we find angle of surplus. We derive an explicit formula for the evaluation of the classical closed string action for any off-shell string field, and for the calculation of arbitrary off-shell amplitudes. The formulae require a parametrization, in terms of some moduli space coordinates, of the family of local coordinates needed to insert the off-shell states on Riemann surfaces. We discuss in detail the evaluation of the tachyon potential as a power series in the tachyon field. The expansion coefficients in this series are shown to be geometrical invariants of Strebel quadratic differentials whose variational properties imply that closed string polyhedra, among all possible choices of string vertices, yield a tachyon potential which is as small as possible order by order in the string coupling constant. Our discussion emphasizes the geometrical meaning of off-shell amplitudes.  相似文献

Recently a modification of the tachyon DBI action has been proposed in which the tachyon carries the internal CP matrix σ1σ1 and σ2σ2. In this paper, we find the momentum expansion of the disk level S-matrix element of four tachyons and one gauge field in superstring theory and show that the first and second order terms of the expansion are in perfect agreement with the above tachyon DBI action.  相似文献

We propose a manifestly SO(8)SO(8) invariant BF type Lagrangian for describing the dynamics of M2-brane–anti-M2-brane system in flat spacetime. When one of the scalars which satisfies a free-scalar equation takes a large expectation value, the M2-brane–anti-M2-brane action reduces to the tachyon DBI action of D2-brane–anti-D2-brane system in flat spacetime.  相似文献

We compute one-loop correction to the string field theory action of the tachyon for unstable D-branes in the framework of the boundary superstring field theory. We would expect that the one-loop correction comes from the partition function of the two-dimensional worldsheet theory on the annulus. The annulus correction suggests that the genus expansion is, somehow, governed by the effective string coupling defined in terms of the tachyon λ=gsexp(−T2/4).  相似文献
