Covering matrices were used by Viale in his proof that the Singular Cardinals Hypothesis follows from the Proper Forcing Axiom and later by Sharon and Viale to investigate the impact of stationary reflection on the approachability ideal. In the course of this work, they isolated two reflection principles, CP and S, which may hold of covering matrices. In this paper, we continue previous work of the author investigating connections between failures of CP and S and variations on Jensen’s square principle. We prove that, for a regular cardinal λ > ω 1, assuming large cardinals, □(λ, 2) is consistent with CP(λ, θ) for all θ with θ + < λ. We demonstrate how to force nice θ-covering matrices for λ which fail to satisfy CP and S. We investigate normal covering matrices, showing that, for a regular uncountable κ, □ κ implies the existence of a normal ω-covering matrix for κ + but that cardinal arithmetic imposes limits on the existence of a normal θ-covering matrix for κ + when θ is uncountable. We introduce the notion of a good point for a covering matrix, in analogy with good points in PCF-theoretic scales. We develop the basic theory of these good points and use this to prove some non-existence results about covering matrices. Finally, we investigate certain increasing sequences of functions which arise from covering matrices and from PCF-theoretic considerations and show that a stationary reflection hypothesis places limits on the behavior of these sequences.  相似文献

In addition to Pisier's counterexample of a non-accessible maximal Banach ideal, we will give a large class of maximal Banach ideals which are accessible. The first step is implied by the observation that a good behaviour of trace duality, which is canon-ically induced by conjugate operator ideals can be extended to adjoint Banach ideals, if and only if these adjoint ideals satisfy an accessibility condition (theorem 3.1). This observation leads in a natural way to a characterization of accessible injective Banach ideals, where we also recognize the appearance of the ideal of absolutely summing operators (prop. 4.1). By the famous Grothendieck inequality, every operator from L 1 to a Hilbert space is absolutely summing, and therefore our search for such ideals will be directed towards Hilbert space factorization—via an operator version of Grothendieck's inequality (lemma 4.2). As a consequence, we obtain a class of injective ideals, which are quasi-accessible, and with the help of tensor stability, we improve the corresponding norm inequalities, to get accessibility (theorem 4.1 and 4.2). In the last chapter of this paper we give applications, which are implied by a non-trivial link of the above mentioned considerations to normed products of operator ideals.  相似文献

Let $$R=k[x_1,\ldots ,x_n]$$ be the polynomial ring in n variables over a field k and let I be a matroidal ideal of degree d. In this paper, we study the unmixedness properties and the arithmetical rank of I. Moreover, we show that $$ara(I)=n-d+1$$. This answers the conjecture made by Chiang-Hsieh (Comm Algebra 38:944–952, 2010, Conjecture).  相似文献

For a standard Artinian k-algebra A=R/I, we give equivalent conditions for A to have the weak (or strong) Lefschetz property or the strong Stanley property in terms of the minimal system of generators of gin(I). Using the equivalent condition for the weak Lefschetz property, we show that some graded Betti numbers of gin(I) are determined just by the Hilbert function of I if A has the weak Lefschetz property. Furthermore, for the case that A is a standard Artinian k-algebra of codimension 3, we show that every graded Betti number of gin(I) is determined by the graded Betti numbers of I if A has the weak Lefschetz property. And if A has the strong Lefschetz (respectively Stanley) property, then we show that the minimal system of generators of gin(I) is determined by the graded Betti numbers (respectively by the Hilbert function) of I.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of the right approximation property with respect to an operator ideal A and solve the duality problem for the approximation property with respect to an operator ideal A, that is, a Banach space X has the approximation property with respect to A d whenever X* has the right approximation property with respect to an operator ideal A. The notions of the left bounded approximation property and the left weak bounded approximation property for a Banach operator ideal are introduced and new symmetric results are obtained. Finally, the notions of the p-compact sets and the p-approximation property are extended to arbitrary Banach operator ideals. Known results of the approximation property with respect to an operator ideal and the p-approximation property are generalized.  相似文献

We consider path ideals associated to special classes of posets such as tree posets and cycles. We express their property of being sequentially Cohen–Macaulay in terms of the underlying poset. Moreover, monomial ideals, which arise in algebraic statistics from the Luce-decomposable model and the ascending model, can be viewed as path ideals of certain posets. We study invariants of these so-called Luce-decomposable monomial ideals and ascending ideals for diamond posets and products of chains. In particular, for these classes of posets, we explicitly compute their Krull dimension, their projective dimension, their Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity and their Betti numbers.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce two properties for ideals of polynomials between Banach spaces and showhow useful they are to deal with several a priori different problems. By investigating these properties we obtain, among other results, new polynomial characterizations of L spaces and characterizations of Banach spaces whose duals are isomorphic to f 1 (Λ).  相似文献

In this note we discuss a simple algebraic calculation of the multiplier ideal associated to a monomial ideal in affine -space. We indicate how this result allows one to compute not only the multiplier ideal but also the log canonical threshold of an ideal in terms of its Newton polygon.

The “normality implies collectionwise normality” results known in the reverse Easton model are shown to hold when normality is replaced by countable paracompactness plus submetacompactness. Moreover, the reverse Easton model can be replaced by the Easton model. A sidelight of the proof is the consistency with GCH of “every normal Moore space of cardinality ⩽ℵ1 is paralindelöf”.  相似文献
