The paper explores an eco‐epidemiological model of a predator–prey type, where the prey population is subject to infection. The model is basically a combination of S‐I type model and a Rosenzweig–MacArthur predator–prey model. The novelty of this contribution is to consider different competition coefficients within the prey population, which leads to the emergent carrying capacity. We explicitly separate the competition between non‐infected and infected individuals. This emergent carrying capacity is markedly different to the explicit carrying capacities that have been considered in many eco‐epidemiological models. We observed that different intra‐class and inter‐class competition can facilitate the coexistence of susceptible prey‐infected prey–predator, which is impossible for the case of the explicit carrying capacity model. We also show that these findings are closely associated with bi‐stability. The present system undergoes bi‐stability in two different scenarios: (a) bi‐stability between the planner equilibria where susceptible prey co‐exists with predator or infected prey and (b) bi‐stability between co‐existence equilibrium and the planner equilibrium where susceptible prey coexists with infected prey; have been discussed. The goal in the paper is to advertise Dunkl extension of Szász beta‐type operators. We initiate approximation features via acknowledged Korovkin and weighted Korovkin theorem and obtain the convergence rate from the point of modulus of continuity, second‐order modulus of continuity, the Lipschitz class functions, Peetre's K‐functional, and modulus of weighted continuity by Dunkl generalization of Szász beta‐type operators.  相似文献

In this paper we show some non‐elementary speed‐ups in logic calculi: Both a predicative second‐order logic and a logic for fixed points of positive formulas are shown to have non‐elementary speed‐ups over first‐order logic. Also it is shown that eliminating second‐order cut formulas in second‐order logic has to increase sizes of proofs super‐exponentially, and the same in eliminating second‐order epsilon axioms. This research addresses the issue of how to support students' representational fluency—the ability to create, move within, translate across, and derive meaning from external representations of mathematical ideas. The context of solving linear equations in a combined computer algebra system (CAS) and paper‐and‐pencil classroom environment is targeted as a rich and pressing context to study this issue. We report results of a collaborative teaching experiment in which we designed for and tested a functions approach to solving equations with ninth‐grade algebra students, and link to results of semi‐structured interviews with students before and after the experiment. Results of analyzing the five‐week experiment include instructional supports for students' representational fluency in solving linear equations: (a) sequencing the use of graphs, tables, and CAS feedback prior to formal symbolic transpositions, (b) connecting solutions to equations across representations, and (c) encouraging understanding of equations as equivalence relations that are sometimes, always, or never true. While some students' change in sophistication of representational fluency helps substantiate the productive nature of these supports, other students' persistent struggles raise questions of how to address the diverse needs of learners in complex learning environments involving multiple tool‐based representations.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new model that generalizes the linear sliding window system to the case of multiple failures. The considered k ‐within‐ m ‐from‐ r / n sliding window system consists of n linearly ordered multi‐state elements and fails if at least k groups out of m consecutive groups of r consecutive multi‐state elements have cumulative performance lower than the demand W . A reliability evaluation algorithm is suggested for the proposed system. In order to increase the system availability, maintenance actions can be performed, and the elements can be optimally allocated. A joint element allocation and maintenance optimization model is formulated with the objective of minimizing the total maintenance cost subjected to the pre‐specified system availability requirement. Basic procedures of genetic algorithms are adapted to solve the optimization problem. Numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the applications. Ratio‐dependent models set up a challenging issue for their rich dynamics incomparison to prey‐dependent models. Little attention has been paid so far to describe the importance of transmissible disease in ecological situation by considering ratio‐dependent models. In this paper, by assuming the predator response function as ratio‐dependent, we consider a model of a system of three non‐linear differential equations describing the time evolution of susceptible and infected Tilapia fish population and their predator, the Pelican. Existence and stability analysis of different equilibria of the system lead to different realistic thresholds in terms of system parameters. The condition for extinction of the species is also worked out. Our analytical and numerical studies may be helpful to chalk out suitable control strategies for minimizing the extinction of the Pelicans. We also suggest that supply of alternative food source for predator population may be used as a possible solution to save the predator from their extinction. Consumer markets have been studied in great depth, and many techniques have been used to represent them. These have included regression‐based models, logit models, and theoretical market‐level models, such as the NBD‐Dirichlet approach. Although many important contributions and insights have resulted from studies that relied on these models, there is still a need for a model that could more holistically represent the interdependencies of the decisions made by consumers, retailers, and manufacturers. When the need is for a model that could be used repeatedly over time to support decisions in an industrial setting, it is particularly critical. Although some existing methods can, in principle, represent such complex interdependencies, their capabilities might be outstripped if they had to be used for industrial applications, because of the details this type of modeling requires. However, a complementary method—agent‐based modeling—shows promise for addressing these issues. Agent‐based models use business‐driven rules for individuals (e.g., individual consumer rules for buying items, individual retailer rules for stocking items, or individual firm rules for advertizing items) to determine holistic, system‐level outcomes (e.g., to determine if brand X's market share is increasing). We applied agent‐based modeling to develop a multi‐scale consumer market model. We then conducted calibration, verification, and validation tests of this model. The model was successfully applied by Procter & Gamble to several challenging business problems. This paper outlines the analytical study of the stability of a more realistic rotor‐to‐stator contact model, which considers the stator as an elastic body having finite mass and being elastically supported. For this model, no report on the stability analysis is available in the literature by our knowledge. In this study, the analytical solution, corresponding to the synchronous full annular rub motion, is first solved, then the stability condition of it is derived. Based on the systematic parametric studies, one gains a deeper insight into the nature of the dynamical behavior of the rotor‐to‐stator contact system. Since the previously investigated simpler rotor‐to‐stator contact models are only the special cases of the present model, the limitation of the simpler models and the influence of the system parameters, which were omitted or assigned to specific values in the simpler models, have been revealed through the present investigation.  相似文献

Consider the random graph model of Barabási and Albert, where we add a new vertex in every step and connect it to some old vertices with probabilities proportional to their degrees. If we connect it to only one of the old vertices the graph will be a tree. These graphs have been shown to have power law degree distributions, the same as observed in some large real‐world networks. Visual representations and manipulatives are a highly advocated mathematical tool for the teaching and learning of multiplication and division. Although there is some prior research on elementary teachers’ general use of manipulatives and visual representations, there is little to no specific focus on use of such representations on a specific mathematical concept. The present study examined third grade teachers’ reported use of visual representations for teaching multiplication and division. Findings indicate prevalent use of discrete models and infrequent use of continuous models. Length models and number lines are rarely used across all Common Core standards focusing on multiplication/division, with numeric‐only representations being reported frequently across all standards. Groups‐of and array models were the most prevalent visual model reported by third grade teachers. Although teachers report higher degrees of access to certain materials than previous reports on manipulative use, interview data suggests this may have more to do with purchase agreements between school districts and textbook companies than pedagogical preferences of classroom teachers. Supporting findings in prior decades, teachers in the present study report prevalent use of flashcards, charts and grid paper, and variations of counters.  相似文献

The elementary cellular automaton following rule 184 can mimic particles flowing in one direction at a constant speed. Therefore, this automaton can model highway traffic qualitatively. In a recent paper, we have incorporated intersections regulated by traffic lights to this model using exclusively elementary cellular automata. In such a paper, however, we only explored a rectangular grid. We now extend our model to more complex scenarios using an hexagonal grid. This extension shows first that our model can readily incorporate multiple‐way intersections and hence simulate complex scenarios. In addition, the current extension allows us to study and evaluate the behavior of two different kinds of traffic‐light controller for a grid of six‐way streets allowing for either two‐ or three‐street intersections: a traffic light that tries to adapt to the amount of traffic (which results in self‐organizing traffic lights) and a system of synchronized traffic lights with coordinated rigid periods (sometimes called the “green‐wave” method). We observe a tradeoff between system capacity and topological complexity. The green‐wave method is unable to cope with the complexity of a higher‐capacity scenario, while the self‐organizing method is scalable, adapting to the complexity of a scenario and exploiting its maximum capacity. Additionally, in this article, we propose a benchmark, independent of methods and models, to measure the performance of a traffic‐light controller comparing it against a theoretical optimum. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we introduce and study new type Szász‐Mirakyan‐Kantorovich operators using a technique different from classical one. This allow to analyze the mentioned operators in terms of exponential test functions instead of the usual polynomial type functions. As a first result, we prove Korovkin type approximation theorems through exponential weighted convergence. The rate of convergence of the operators is obtained for exponential weights.  相似文献

In this paper possibilities of impacting on self‐excited threshold and on amplitude of arisen self‐excited vibrations are investigated. The short symmetrical bearing model on pericycloid slide bearings with multiplicator factor 3, 4 and 5 was used as the support bearing model. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) science and engineering practices are ways of eliciting the reasoning and applying foundational ideas in science. As research has revealed barriers to states and schools adopting the NGSS, this mixed‐methods study attempts to identify characteristics of professional development (PD) that will support NGSS adoption and to improve teacher readiness. In‐service science teachers from across the nation were targeted for the survey and responses represented 38 states. Research questions included: How motivated and prepared are in‐service 7–12 teachers to use NGSS science and engineering practices? What is the profile of 7–12 in‐service teachers who are motivated and feel prepared to use NGSS science and engineering practices? The study revealed that teachers identified engineering most frequently as a PD need to improve their NGSS readiness. High school teachers rated themselves as more prepared than middle school and all teachers who use Modeling Instruction expressed higher NGSS readiness. These findings and their specificity contribute to current knowledge, and can be utilized by districts in selecting PD to support teachers in preparing to implement the NGSS successfully.  相似文献

In this paper a first order theory for the logics defined through literal paraconsistent‐paracomplete matrices is developed. These logics are intended to model situations in which the ground level information may be contradictory or incomplete, but it is treated within a classical framework. This means that literal formulas, i.e. atomic formulas and their iterated negations, may behave poorly specially regarding their negations, but more complex formulas, i.e. formulas that include a binary connective are well behaved. This paper studies a condition‐based maintenance policy for a repairable system subject to a continuous‐state gradual deterioration monitored by sequential non‐periodic inspections. The system can be maintained using different maintenance operations (partial repair, as good as new replacement) with different effects (on the system state), costs and durations. A parametric decision framework (multi‐threshold policy) is proposed to choose sequentially the best maintenance actions and to schedule the future inspections, using the on‐line monitoring information on the system deterioration level gained from the current inspection. Taking advantage of the semi‐regenerative (or Markov renewal) properties of the maintained system state, we construct a stochastic model of the time behaviour of the maintained system at steady state. This stochastic model allows to evaluate several performance criteria for the maintenance policy such as the long‐run system availability and the long‐run expected maintenance cost. In this paper, we study the approximation properties of bivariate summation‐integral–type operators with two parameters . The present work deals within the polynomial weight space. The rate of convergence is obtained while the function belonging to the set of all continuous and bounded function defined on ([0],)(×[0],) and function belonging to the polynomial weight space with two parameters, also convergence properties, are studied. To know the asymptotic behavior of the proposed bivariate operators, we prove the Voronovskaya type theorem and show the graphical representation for the convergence of the bivariate operators, which is illustrated by graphics using Mathematica. Also with the help of Mathematica, we discuss the comparison by means of the convergence of the proposed bivariate summation‐integral–type operators and Szász‐Mirakjan‐Kantorovich operators for function of two variables with two parameters to the function. In the same direction, we compute the absolute numerical error for the bivariate operators by using Mathematica and is illustrated by tables and also the comparison takes place of the proposed bivariate operators with the bivariate Szász‐Mirakjan operators in the sense of absolute error, which is represented by table. At last, we study the simultaneous approximation for the first‐order partial derivative of the function.  相似文献

While participating in single‐ and mixed‐gender science and mathematics classes, ninth‐grade urban high school students' (n= 118) academic self‐concept, self‐efficacy, and school climate perceptions were examined. Their perceptions were measured quantitatively from the Fennema‐Sherman Mathematics (modified for Science) Attitude and the Patterns of Adaptive Learning scales. Five factors arose from each instrument: confidence/efficacy, utility, instruction, climate, and anxiety/performance avoidance. Comparative factor analysis of the science‐modified Fennema‐Sherman Scale showed similar constructs within the mathematics scale. Our findings are congruent with reports concerning single‐gender classrooms that find few significant differences in students' attitudes toward science and mathematics, or classroom climate, with regard to single‐gender classes. Lastly, our results supported three structural equation models for the hypothesized factors from each instrument.  相似文献
