Mixed surfactant-polyelectrolyte multilayer films were fabricated by both ionic self-assembly and spin assembly. A polycation [PEI = poly(ethylenimine)] was deposited from a dilute solution, while a polyanion (PAZO = poly[1-[4-(3-carboxy-4-hydroxyphenylazo) benzenesulfonamido]-1,2-ethanediyl, sodium salt]) was deposited from a mixture containing a fixed concentration of polyanion and various concentrations of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Coadsorption of SDS and PAZO onto PEI layers was observed using both deposition methods and attributed to strong PEI-SDS interactions and entropic factors. Increasing the concentration of SDS resulted in films containing progressively less adsorbed PAZO. No further reduction in the amount of adsorbed PAZO was observed above the SDS critical micelle concentration. We attribute the film growth behavior to a fast adsorption of SDS onto PEI, followed by a slower adsorption of PAZO onto the remaining unoccupied binding sites. We observe that SDS interpenetrates throughout the PAZO and PEI layers, increasing the surface hydrophobicity of both. We observed similar behavior for both ionically self-assembled and spin-assembled systems.  相似文献

The electrochemical behavior of cationic tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTABr), anionic sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), cationic‐anionic (catanionic) mixed surfactant and self‐assembled solutions at Pt wire electrode has been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV). On the basis of the cyclic voltammograms and determining the self‐assembled structures by using freeze‐fracture transmission electron microscopy (FF‐TEM), the mechanisms of the electrochemical reactions near the electrode for the two surfactant self‐assembled solutions, i.e., micelles and vesicles, are presented. When mixing TTABr and SDS, at the right mixing ratio of TTABr:SDS, vesicles are established spontaneously. The redox behavior of two vesicle‐phase solutions at a constant total concentration of 25 mmol·L?1 with the ratios of TTABr:SDS 9.35:0.65 of positive charges of bilayer membranes and 1.25:8.75 of negative charges of bilayer membranes are investigated by cyclic voltammetry. These cyclic voltammograms of vesicles with different charges are compared with those of 100 mmol · L?1 TTABr and 100 mmol · L?1 SDS micelle solutions. This CV study on surfactant self‐assembled solutions should open up a new method of study in surfactant science.  相似文献

Self-standing composite films consisting of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl-oxidized cellulose nanofibril (TOCN) and anionic poly(acrylamide) (PAM) in various weight ratios were prepared by casting and drying of homogeneous mixtures of aqueous TOCN dispersion and PAM solution. PAM/TOCN composite films consisting of 25 % PAM and 75 % TOCN had clearly higher Young’s modulus (13.9 GPa) and tensile strength (266 MPa) than 100 % TOCN film (10.8 GPa and 223 MPa, respectively) or 100 % PAM film (4.9 GPa and 78 MPa, respectively), showing that PAM molecules have mechanical reinforcement ability in TOCN matrix. Some attractive interactions are likely formed between TOCN element surfaces and PAM molecules. In contrast, no such mechanical improvements were observed for poly(vinyl alcohol)/TOCN or oxidized starch/TOCN composite films prepared as references. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the PAM/TOCN composite films were further improved by controlling molecular mass and branching degree of the PAM. The high optical transparency and low coefficient of thermal expansion of the 100 % TOCN film were mostly maintained in the TOCN composite film containing 25 % PAM.  相似文献

We proposed a gyratory square-shaped capacitive radio-frequency discharge plasma sputtering source for materials processing and functional film preparation, composed of magnet arrangements consisting of eight neodymium bar magnets of dimensions 30 mm × 5 mm × 3 mm. In order to evaluate its performance, two square-shaped magnetic arrangements were investigated: case (a) without iron shielding and case (b) with iron shielding of dimensions 5 mm × 3 mm × 1 mm. The magnetic field simulation is analyzed, while the plasma discharge characteristics and the film properties are measured. The film thickness and the resistivity profiles of case (b) are more uniform than their corresponding profiles in case (a). The lowest electrical resistivity of the film is 4.33 × 10?8 Ω m at r = 30 mm for case (b), which is of the same order as the bulk resistivity of the copper. The roughnesses of the film thickness profile for cases (a) and (b) are ±24.4 and ±7.2%, respectively. Using atomic force microscopy analysis, the film surface for case (b) was observed to show an improved smooth surface with reduced needle-shaped grain size and a lower surface roughness than that of case (a). The surface roughness of the films is approximately 3.73 and 2.49 nm for case (a) and case (b), respectively. From the X-ray diffraction patterns, the film texture, the relative intensity ratios of the (111) peak to the (200) [I(111)/ I(200)] were found to be 13.76 and 4.08 for the cases (a) and (b), respectively.  相似文献

A comparative study of the influence of anionic (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS), cationic (tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide, TTAB) and non-ionic (penta-ethyleneglycol mono n-dodecyl ether, C12E5) surfactants on the structure and composition of adsorbed layers of cationic hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose (Quatrisoft LM 200) on hydrophilic surfaces (mica and silica) was carried out using surface force apparatus andin situ null ellipsometry. It is shown that a complex interplay of electrostatic, hydrophobic, and steric effect govern polymer/surfactant/surface interactions and that the effect of surfactant addition strongly depends on its nature and concentration. Both anionic and non-ionic surfactants exhibit aggregation on the polymer hydrophobes. SDS has the most profound influence on Quatrisoft interfacial behavior due to the changes in electrostatics accompanying formation of the polymer/surfactant complex. In the case of C12E5, large surfactant clusters bound to the polymer affect the macromolecules' conformation in the adsorbed layer via steric effects. In contrast to SDS and C12E5, no evidence of interaction between the polycation and a like-charged surfactant, TTAB, was obtained. At the same time, TTAB adsorbs on the surface in competition with the polyelectrolyte. This results in partial displacement of the latter and its looser attachment to the surface.  相似文献

The interaction between poly(N-ethyl-4-vinylpyridinium bromide) and a zwitterionic surfactant has been studied in the presence of a low-molecular-mass electrolyte, sodium bromide. Both soluble and insoluble complexes have been formed. There are two essential differences between interactions of the polycation with the zwitterionic surfactant and of polycations with anionic surfacants: interaction between the polycation and the zwitterionic surfactant may proceed only in the presence of low-molecular-mass electrolytes, while interaction between the polycation and the zwitterionic surfactant in the presence of sodium bromide may take place only at surfactant concentrations above the CMC.  相似文献

Stoichiometry of the redox reaction of vanadium(V) by ascorbic acid (H2A) has been experimentally determined to be H2A + 2V(V) → A + 2V(IV) + 2H + . Evidence of induced polymerization of acrylonitrile and the reduction of mercuric chloride indicates that a free-radical mechanism operates during the course of reaction. Vanadium(V) is only reduced to vanadium(IV). The kinetics of this redox reaction have been investigated spectrophotometrically at 35°C in acidic media of H2SO4. In this kinetic study we have observed the nature of vanadium(V)-H2A interaction in presence of anionic surfactant of SDS. In V(V)-H2A system, the addition of anionic surfactant (SDS) enhanced the reaction rate and shows catalytic effect. This trend was explained by the incorporation/solubilization of vanadium(V) and ascorbic acid in the Stern layer.  相似文献

Fabrication of complex molecular films of organic materials is one of the most important issues in modern nanoscience and nanotechnology. Soft materials with flexible properties have been given much attention and can be obtained through bottom up processing from functional molecules, where self-assembly based on supramolecular chemistry and designed assembly have become crucial processes and technologies. In this work, we report the successful incorporation of cationic laser dye rhodamine 6G abbreviated as R6G into the pre-assembled polyelectrolyte/surfactant complex film onto quartz substrate by electrostatic adsorption technique. Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) was used as polycation and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) was used as anionic surfactant. UV-Vis absorption spec-troscopic characterization reveals the formation of only H-type aggregates of R6G in their aqueous solution and both H- and J-type aggregates in PAH/SDS/R6G complex layer-by-layber films as well as the adsorption kinetics of R6G onto the complex films. The ratio of the absorbance intensity of two aggregated bands in PAH/SDS/R6G complex films is merely independent of the concentration range of the SDS solution used to fabricate PAH/SDS com-plex self-assembled films. Atomic force microscopy reveals the formation of R6G aggregates in PAH/SDS/R6G complex films.  相似文献

The properties and extraction for [Ni(NH3)6]2+ of anionic aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS-a) that formed in mixtures of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and excess sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aqueous solutions were investigated. The results showed that the properties and extraction effects were strongly affected by the surfactant concentration, the temperature of system, and the mole fraction of surfactants. The increase of temperature induces narrower phase region and larger phase volume ratio. In addition, [Ni(NH3)6]2+ was extracted into the surfactant-rich phase with higher distribution coefficient when the liquid crystal had the birefringent properties. Moreover, the distribution coefficient can be improved through reducing the concentration of surfactant from 0.15 to 0.05 mol · L?1 or increasing mole fraction of CTAB from 21.9% to 23.1%. The results showed that ATPS of cationic–anionic surfactants was efficient for [Ni(NH3)6]2+ extraction with distribution coefficients of 13.5 when the total surfactant concentration was 0.05 mol · L?1, mole fraction of CTAB was 21%, and temperature was 34°C.  相似文献

Ultraviolet spectrometric study of alizarin red S (ARS) showed the substantial change in dye spectra by cationic CTAB as compared to anionic SDS and nonionic TX-100 surfactant. High spectral change by CTAB confirms the anionic nature of ARS dye and thus ARS-CTAB complex formation takes place due to electrostatic force of attraction. A little spectral change by SDS is the result of similarly charged repulsive forces that overcome weak hydrophobic-hydrophobic interaction between dye and surfactant micelles. TX-100 exhibited moderate spectral effect responsive to weak hydrophobic-hydrophobic interaction alone. MEUF study of ARS dye justified the spectral changes and dye rejection percentage (R) decreases in the following order: cationic > nonionic > anionic surfactant. Permeate flux (J) slightly decreases in presence of CTAB and it remains virtually constant for both SDS and TX-100. Addition of copper salt (i.e., CuCl2) in dye-CTAB complex solution, favors rejection (%) removing dye and copper simultaneously via micellar enhanced ultrafiltration.  相似文献

The competitive binding of counterions to anionic dodecyl sulfate ions in aqueous solutions of cesium dodecyl sulfate (CsDS) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) mixtures, which significantly influences the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and surface (or interfacial) tension of surfactant solutions, was investigated. The cmc and degree of counterion binding were obtained through electrical conductivity measurements. The curve of cmc versus the mole fraction of CsDS in the surfactant mixture was simulated by Rubingh's equations, which enabled us to estimate the interaction parameter in micelles (W R) based on the regular solution approximation. The curve-fitting exhibited a slightly negative value (W R=−0.1), indicating that the mixing (SDS+CsDS) enhances micelle formation owing to a greater interaction between surfactant molecules and counterions than in pure systems (SDS). On going from SDS, SDS:CsDS(75:25), SDS:CsDS(50:50), SDS:CsDS(25:75) to CsDS, interfacial tension at the hexadecane/surfactant-solution interface showed a negative deviation from the mixing rule (interaction parameter in adsorbed film W A=−0.38), indicating the replacement of Na+ bound to anionic dodecyl sulfate by Cs+ ions owing to the stronger interaction between the Cs+ and the dodecyl sulfate ions. Droplet sizes of emulsion formed with hexadecane and aqueous dodecyl sulfate solutions were investigated using the light scattering spectrophotometer. The higher binding capacity of Cs+, having a smaller hydrated ionic size than Na+, also resulted in a negative deviation in emulsion droplet size in mixed systems. A novel photoalignment film for liquid crystals (LC) was prepared based on layer-by-layer self-assembly of photosensitive long side-chain cinnamate polyelectrolyte. A series of self-assembled films with different methylene spacer groups was prepared and used as alignment film. The film became anisotropic, and could induce uniform alignment of LC after irradiation by linearly polarised ultraviolet light (LPUVL). The effects of spacer chain lengths of the cinnamoyl polycations on the structure and photoalignment properties of the self-assembled film were studied. The polycation films with longer spacer chain obtained a larger dichroic ratio after LPUVL irradiation. The contrast ratio (T max/T min) of the LC cell increased with spacer chain length increase. However, it was found that the thermal stability of PSS/PACPYn films decreased with increasing chain length of polycation.  相似文献

The interaction between strong polycations, which possess the ammonium quaternary centers attached to an acrylic macromolecular chain derived from poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (polycations Qx), and divalent counterions was investigated by viscometry and turbidimetry. Conformational changes of polycations were influenced by the polycation charge density, counterion nature (SO42− or S2O82−) and concentration. The morphology of the polycation layers deposited onto silicon wafers has been studied by tapping mode atomic force microscopy, a strong influence of the polycation and ammonium persulfate concentration on the surface topography being observed. The optimum flocculation concentration of polycation decreased and the flocculation window increased in the presence of S2O82−, in the destabilization of kaolin model dispersion. Removal of Congo Red from aqueous solution by the complex system formed between polycations and divalent counterions was also investigated. The behavior of polycations Qx in separation processes was compared with that of one polycation containing 95 mol% N,N-dimethyl-2-hydroxypropyleneammonium chloride units in the backbone (PCA5).  相似文献

Coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to study the self-assembly of polymer, polyacrylamide (PAM) and surfactant, sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) in aqueous solution. Our simulations revealed that PAM curled into clusters in the absence of SDS, while it was stretched if SDS was added. For the SDS-PAM complexes, the aggregate formation process can be divided into three stages: firstly, PAM quickly absorbs some SDS monomers until the radius of gyration (Rg) of polymer reaches a minimum; then, PAM stretches and the Rg of PAM increases due to more and more adsorbed SDS; ultimately, the commonly accepted "necklace" structure is formed with PAM located at the interface of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions of the SDS micelle. The main driving force for the association was hydrophobic interactions between the polymer backbone and the surfactant hydrophobic tails. As the concentration of SDS increased, the Rg of PAM increased up to a maximum, indicating the polymer was saturated with surfactant.  相似文献

In this article, the effect of molecular weight on the interfacial tension and interfacial dilational viscoelasticity of polystyrene sulfonate/surfactant adsorption films at the water-octane interface have been studied by spinning drop method and oscillating barriers method respectively. The experimental results show that different interfacial behaviors can be observed in different type of polyelectrolyte/surfactant systems. PSS/cationic surfactant CTAB systems show the classical behavior of oppositely charged polyelectrolyte/surfactant systems and can be well explained by electrostatic interaction. Molecular weight of PSS plays a crucial role in the nature of adsorption film. The complex formed by CTAB and higher molecular weight PSS, which has larger dimension and stronger interaction, results in higher dilational modulus at lower surfactant bulk concentration. In the case of PSS/anionic surfactant SDS systems, the co-adsorption of PSS at interface through hydrophobic interaction with alkyl chain of SDS leads to the increase of interfacial tension and the decrease of dilational modulus at lower surfactant bulk concentration. For PSS/nonionic surfactant T × 100 systems, PSS may form a sublayer contiguous to the aqueous phase, which has little effect on interfacial tension but slightly decreases dilational modulus.  相似文献

In this work, the interaction between the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and the polyelectrolyte complex hydrolyzed polyacrylamide/poly(4-vinylpyridine) (AD37–P4VP) in aqueous solution was investigated by conductometric measurements. Three main series with SDS concentrations of 0.01, 0.25 and 1 % and in a wide range of P4VP and AD37 concentrations, from 0.1 × 10?4 to 4 × 10?4 g/ml, and from 10?4 to 10?3 g/ml, respectively, were studied. The polyelectrolyte complex interacts strongly with the SDS surfactant. These interactions are of electrostatic and hydrophobic types. Thus, the effect of salt on the critical micelle concentration of SDS, and the neutralization degree on behavior conductivity of the mixture, were quantified.  相似文献

In our previous work (Macromolecules 2004, 37:2930), we found that the hydrophobic blocks of polyacrylamide modified with 2‐phenoxylethyl acrylate (POEA) and anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) may form mixed associations at octane/water interface. However, the process involving the exchange of surfactant molecules between monomers and mixed associations in interface is so fast that we cannot obtain its characteristic time. In this article, the interfacial dilational viscoelastic properties of another hydrophobically associating block copolymer composed of acrylamide (AM) and a low amount of 2‐ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA) (<1.0 mol%) at the octane‐water interfaces were investigated by means of oscillating barriers method and interfacial tension relaxation method respectively. The influences of anionic surfactant SDS and nonionic surfactant Triton X‐100 on the dilational viscoelastic properties of 7000 ppm polymer solutions were studied. The results showed that the interaction between P(AM/2‐EHA) and SDS was similar to that of P(AM/POEA) and SDS. Moreover, we got the relaxation characteristic time of the fast process involving the exchange of s Triton X‐100 molecules between monomers and mixed associations.

We also found that the interfacial tension response of hydrophobically associating water‐soluble copolymers to the sinusoidal oscillation of interfacial area at low bulk concentration is as same as that of the typical surfactants: the interfacial tension decreases with the decrease of interfacial area because of the increase of interfacial active components. However, the interfacial tension increases with the decrease of interfacial area at 7000 ppm P(AM/2‐EHA), which is believed to be correlative with the structure of absorbed film. The results of another hydrophobically associating polymer P(AM/POEA) and polyelectrolyte polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) enhanced our supposition. The phase difference between area oscillation and tension oscillation has also been discussed considering the apparent negative value.  相似文献

The electrochemical behavior of anionic molecules such as hexacyanoferrate and vitamin B12 hexacarboxilate intercalated into clay–surfactant films is investigated. The results indicate that composites of surfactant cetyltrymethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and synthetic clay facilitate the permeation of the charged molecules through the film. By heating the modified electrode at 120°C for 1 h, the charged molecules, depending on hydrophobic and coulombic forces, are able to accommodate inside the film. Coulombic forces retain the anionic molecules in the clay–CTAB composite. The films are stable with good electroactivity.  相似文献

The kinetics of the oxidation of malachite green (MG+) by Fe(III) were investigated spectrophotometrically by monitoring the absorbance change at 618 nm in aqueous and micellar media at a temperature range 20–40 °C; I = 0.10 mol dm?3 for [H+] range (2.50–15.00) × 10?4 mol dm?3. The rate of reaction increases with increasing [H+]. The reaction was carried out under pseudo-first-order conditions by taking the [Fe(III)] (>10-fold) the [MG+]. A mechanism of the reaction between malachite green and Fe(III) is proposed, and the rate equation derived from the mechanism was consistent with the experimental rate law as follows: Rate = (k 4 + K 1 k 5[H+]) [MG+][Fe(III)]. The effect of surfactants, such as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB, a cationic surfactant) and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS, an anionic surfactant), on the reaction rate has been studied. CTAB has no effect on the rate of reaction while SDS inhibits it. Also, the effect of ligands on the reaction rate has been investigated. It is proposed that electron transfer proceeds through an outer-sphere mechanism. The enthalpy and the entropy of the activation were calculated using the transition state theory equation.  相似文献

The surface of a gold (Au) electrode was coated with layer‐by‐layer (LbL) thin films composed of poly(vinyl sulfate) (PVS) and different type of poly(amine)s including poly(allylamine) (PAH), poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and redox properties of ferricyanide ion ([Fe(CN)6]3?) on the LbL film‐coated Au electrodes were studied. The LbL film‐coated electrodes exhibited redox response to [Fe(CN)6]3? ion when the outermost surface of the LbL film was covered with the cationic poly(amine)s while virtually no response was observed on the LbL film‐coated electrodes whose outermost surface was covered with PVS due to an electrostatic repulsion between [Fe(CN)6]3? ion and the negatively‐charged PVS layer. The redox properties of [Fe(CN)6]3? ion on the LbL film‐coated electrodes significantly depended on the type of polycationic materials in the LbL film. The LbL film‐coated electrodes which had been immersed in the [Fe(CN)6]3? solution for 15 min exhibited redox response even in a [Fe(CN)6]3? ion‐free buffer solution, suggesting that [Fe(CN)6]3? ion is confined in the films. In the buffer solution, redox peaks were observed between +0.1 and 0.4 V depending on the type of polycations in the film. Thus, [Fe(CN)6]3? ion can be confined in the film and the redox potential is polycation‐dependent.  相似文献
