ABSTRACT

Food Grade Rutile TiO2 was dispersed in coconut oil with the help of hydrophobic emulsifiers such as sorbitan esters and lecithin. The dispersed mixture was melted and blended with hydrophilic emulsifiers such as ethoxylated sorbitan esters and the preheated (60°C) blend was further sprayed by atomizer into cold water (20°C). The oil in water emulsions contained encapsulated TiO2 in the internal phase. The technique is simple and allows preparation of stable emulsions with average droplets size of 1-10 microns.  相似文献

Lubricating oil additives based on boron compounds are promising materials for lubrication due to their tribological advantages such as antiwear efficiency, good film strength, and high temperature resistance. This article deals with the preparation of zinc borate particles that are well dispersed and colloidally stabilized in mineral oil. This method starts with preparing two inverse emulsions (water-in-oil) with sorbitan monostearate (Span 60) as a surfactant, light neutral oil as a continuous phase, and the aqueous solutions of borax decahydrate (Na2B4O7·10H2O) and zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)2·6H2O) as the dispersed phases. The produced particles were zinc borate crystals having both rod-like and spherical morphologies, and the diameters of spherical particles were changing between 20 and 30 nm. FTIR spectra of the obtained particles showed the characteristic peaks of trihedral borate (B(3)-O) and tetrahedral borate (B(4)-O) groups as well as the specific peaks of the sorbitan monostearate. TG showed 30.42% and 22.08% mass loss at 600 °C for the samples prepared by inverse emulsion and precipitation techniques, respectively. The endothermic peak at 50 °C is observed due to the melting of sorbitan monostearate and the heat of melting is evaluated as −3.50 J/g. Tribological studies revealed that sorbitan monostearate not only outperformed as a dispersing agent of inorganic particles, but also it proved to be an anti-wear agent. Zinc borate produced by precipitation decreased the wear scar diameter from 1.402 to 0.639 mm and the friction coefficient from 0.099 to 0.064. The inverse emulsion was effective in decreasing wear scar diameter and the friction coefficient by lowering them to 0.596 and 0.089 mm, respectively.  相似文献

The porosity of polymer materials produced by polymerizing dispersion media of highly concentrated emulsions may be predicted, provided that the emulsions are stable. The study of the stability of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions containing styrene as a dispersion medium at 25 and 65°C has shown that emulsions with a dispersed phase fraction of 0.75 and sorbitan monooleate concentrations of 1.5–20.0 vol % are stable to coalescence but are unstable to sedimentation. Emulsions with a dispersed phase fraction of 0.95 are stable to both coalescence and sedimentation at sorbitan monooleate concentrations of 10–20 vol %. Open-pore polymer materials are formed from emulsions with dispersed phase fractions of 0.75 and 0.95 at sorbitan monooleate concentrations of 2.0–3.5 and 10–12 vol %, respectively. At a dispersed phase fraction of 0.75 and a sorbitan monooleate concentration of <2 vol %, a multiple O/W/O emulsion is formed, the polymerization of which yields a porous polymer material containing spherical polystyrene particles inside pores. At higher surfactant concentrations in emulsions with dispersed phase fractions of 0.75 and 0.95 partly destroyed porous materials are formed.  相似文献

Carbon‐doped titania (C‐TiO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol–gel method at different calcination temperatures (300–600°C) employing titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) as the titanium source and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (Tween 80) as the carbon source. The physical properties of C‐TiO2 samples were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The photocatalytic activities were checked through the photodegradation of phenolphthalein (PHP) under ultraviolet irradiation. The UV spectrum showed that the carbon doping extends the absorption range of TiO2 to the visible region. However, the photocatalytic activity is affected by the electron–hole recombination phenomenon, as revealed by the photoluminescence (PL) study. According to the PL spectra, carbon doping reduces the edge‐to‐edge electron–hole recombination. Nevertheless, the number of defect sites is greatly influenced by the calcination temperature of C‐TiO2. C‐TiO2 that was calcined at 400°C showed the highest photodegradation percentage of PHP, which was mainly attributed to the synergic effect of the low direct edge‐to‐edge electron–hole recombination, high content of defect sites, and retention of active electrons on the surface hydroxyl group.  相似文献

The use of titanium oxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) in sunscreen formulations has increased considerably, and might pose a serious health hazard worldwide. A thorough investigation into the toxicity induced by such components is highly necessary. In this study, the effects of TiO2 and ZnO NPs on HaCaT cells were tested in the presence and absence of emulsifiers (cyclopentasiloxane, jojoba ester, and lecithin). Cell viability results revealed that the toxicity of NPs was highly dose dependent and influenced by the emulsifier type. The emulsifiers themselves are minimally toxic. However, when used in combination with TiO2 and ZnO, they were highly toxic to HaCaT cells. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the cells showed least permeability to NPs dispersed in lecithin compared to other emulsifiers. In conclusion, the toxicity of NPs may be highly dependent on the emulsifier type and be varied. In particular, lecithin can be used as a potential alternative emulsifier in sunscreens.  相似文献

The polymerization of inverse microemulsions of 2-methacryloyl oxyethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride stabilized by a blend of nonionic emulsifiers (a sorbitan sesquioleate and a sorbitan monooleate) and initiated by UV light in the presence of Azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) was investigated. The effect of initiator concentration, light intensity, emulsifier concentration, and dispersed phase weight fraction on the polymerization rate (Rp), number of polymer particles (Np), and polymer molecular weight (Mw) was studied. The application of this process to tubular reactors is discussed. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 737–748, 1998  相似文献

The formation of the structure of titanium dioxide modified with silicon dioxide, which was introduced as tetraethyl orthosilicate, was studied. It was found that the formation of the nanocrystalline structure of TiO2 occurred upon the modification of titanium dioxide with silicon dioxide. This nanocrystalline structure of TiO2 was formed by highly dispersed anatase particles of size 6–10 nm stabilized by silicon oxide layers, which were formed upon the decomposition of tetraethyl orthosilicate. An increase in the modifier concentration resulted in a deceleration of the growth of anatase particles and an increase in the temperature of the phase transition of anatase to rutile. It was found that the anatase phase in the samples containing 5–15 wt % SiO2 was stable up to 1000°C. The stabilization of highly dispersed anatase particles facilitated the retention of the developed fine-pore structure of xerogels with a pore diameter of 4 nm up to 900°C.  相似文献

Highly stable TiO2 sols were prepared by adjusting the water-to-titanium molar ratio to ~4 in the process of hydrolysis and condensation of titanium isopropoxide in ethanol with HNO3. Particularly, long-term stable TiO2 sols were prepared without adding any chemical additives. Anatase TiO2 nanocrystallites with sizes of 3–5 nm in diameter were uniformly dispersed in the stable sol. Crystallized TiO2 films were successfully deposited on Si (100) using the stable sol via a dip-coating process with low temperature curing at as low as 100 °C. The synthesized TiO2 sols and films are promising for use in flexible or dye-sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanosheets (TiO2 NS) with dominant (001) facets and TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2 NP) with dominant (101) facets are fabricated by hydrothermal hydrolysis of Ti(OC4H9)4 in the presence and absence of hydrogen fluoride (HF), respectively. Adsorption of N719 onto the as‐prepared samples from ethanol solutions is investigated and discussed. The adsorption kinetic data are modeled using the pseudo‐first‐order, pseudo‐second‐order, and intraparticle diffusion kinetics equations, and indicate that the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic equation and intraparticle diffusion model can better describe the adsorption kinetics. Furthermore, adsorption equilibrium data of N719 on the as‐prepared samples are analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich models; this suggests that the Langmuir model provides a better correlation of the experimental data. The adsorption capacities (qmax) of N719 on TiO2 NS at various temperatures, determined using the Langmuir equation, are 65.2 (30 °C), 68.2 (40 °C), and 76.6 (50 °C) mg g−1, which are smaller than those on TiO2 NP, 92.4 (30 °C), 100.0 (40 °C), and 108.2 (50 °C) mg g−1, respectively. The larger adsorption capacities of N719 for TiO2 NP versus NS are attributed to its higher specific surface areas. However, the specific adsorption capacities (qmax/SBET) at various temperatures are 1.5 (30 °C), 1.6 (40 °C), and 1.7 (50 °C) mg m−2 for TiO2 NS, which are otherwise higher than those for NP, 0.9 (30 °C), 1.0 (40 °C), and 1.1 (50 °C) mg m−2, respectively. The larger specific adsorption capacities of N719 for TiO2 NS versus NP are because the (001) surface is more reactive for dissociative adsorption of reactant molecules compared with (101) facets. Notably, the qmax and qmax/SBET for both TiO2 samples increase with increasing temperature, suggesting that adsorption of N719 on the TiO2 surface is an endothermic process, which is further confirmed by the calculated thermodynamic parameters including free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of adsorption process. The present work will provide a new understanding on the adsorption process and mechanism of N719 molecules onto TiO2 NS and NP, and this should be of great importance for enhancing the performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

Highly photoactive bi-phase nanocrystalline TiO2 photocatalyst was prepared by a solvent evaporation-induced crystallization (SEIC) method, and calcined at different temperatures. The obtained TiO2 photocatalyst was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and BET surface areas. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photocatalytic oxidation of acetone in air. The results show that solvent evaporation can promote the crystallization and phase transformation of TiO2 at 100°C. When calcination temperatures are below 600°C, the prepared TiO2 powders show bimodal pore size distributions in the mesoporous region. At 700°C, the pore size distributions exhibit monomodal distribution of the inter-aggregated pores due to the collapse of the intra-aggregated pores. At 100°C, the obtained TiO2 photocatalyst by this method shows good photocatalytic activity, and at 400°C, its photocatalytic activity exceeds that of Degussa P25. This may be attributed to the fact that the prepared TiO2 photocatalyst has higher specific surface areas, smaller crystallite size and bimodal pore size distribution.  相似文献

High-temperature treatment steps in fabrication process of dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) significantly contribute to the manufacturing costs and limit the use of temperature sensitive substrates. Therefore our aim was to develop a simple method for the preparation of water-based TiO2 paste. The paste is based on peroxotitanic acid (PTA) sol–gel matrix and commercial TiO2 nanoparticles (P25). Two fabrication processes to decompose/transform the PTA matrix in the printed TiO2 layer are explored and combined: annealing at temperatures up to 250 °C and/or oxygen plasma treatment. The results show that the PTA matrix in the paste converts to anatase phase and to some extent also attaches to the TiO2 nanoparticles P25 acting as an interconnecting network within TiO2 layer. The transformation of the PTA matrix occurs around 250 °C, but in the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles P25 it starts already at 120 °C. In addition the results reveal that the crystallization is achievable also solely with the oxygen plasma treatment. The efficiency of the TiO2 layers, exposed to different post-deposition treatments, is evaluated in DSSCs. The results show that oxygen plasma treatment of the TiO2 layers could efficiently replace temperature curing at 250 °C. Within this study the DSSCs with the efficiency up to 4.2 % measured under standard test conditions (1,000 W/m2, AM1.5, 25 °C) were realized.  相似文献

The Beerbower-Hill approach based on the Cohesive Energy Ratio concept (CER) has been applied in order to optimize the stabilization of Acrylamide-water or Acrylic Acid (pure and 80% neutralized)- water mixtures in cyclohexane emulsions.

Using surface tension measurements for the determination of the solubility parameter of the aqueous phase ( δw), it was found that the presence and amount of the water-soluble monomer could be accounted for the evaluation of the optimal HLB.

Predictions were compared to experimental HLB values obtained by using various blends of a low-HLB emulsifier (a sorbitan monooleate named MONTANE 80) and high-HLB emulsifiers (either a nonylphenolpolyoxyethylene [40 EO] or a pOE [20 EO] sorbitan trioleate, MONTANOX 85).  相似文献

In this work, the direct photolysis of salicylic acid, generally used as keratolytic agent in many dermatological products and as preservative in cosmetics, was investigated. The photodegradation of the acid under UVB irradiation was evaluated in different vehicles, such as water solutions at different pH, propylene glycol/water, and ethanol/water mixtures, sodium dodecyl sulphate solutions, and O/W emulsions prepared with Montanov 68 and Amphysol K as emulsifiers. The increase of pH enhanced the photodegradation of salicylic acid while the different vehicles protected the acid from the action of UVB radiations. However, the best protection was observed dissolving the acid in the lipid core of O/W emulsions, which probably removes the active from the polar environment that can promote the photolysis. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2 on the degradation of salicylic acid also was evaluated. TiO2 frequently is used as sunscreen in many cosmetic preparations. Salicylic acid and the pigment can be contained in the same solar formulation; hence, it can be interesting to study their interaction under UVB. TiO2 enhanced the photodegradation of salicylic acid in all the media previously reported and its photocatalytic activity was influenced by the pH and by the components of the vehicles.  相似文献

Stabilised titania sols were prepared using an additive free particulate sol-gel route, via electrostatic stabilisation mechanism, with various processing parameters. Peptisation temperature, 50°C and 70°C, and TiO2 concentration, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 molar, were chosen as processing parameters during sol preparation. Results from TiO2 particle size and zeta potential of sols revealed that the smallest titania hydrodynamic diameter (13 nm) and the highest zeta potential (47.7 mV) were obtained for the sol produced at the lower peptisation temperature of 50°C and lower TiO2 concentration of 0.1 M. On the other hand, between the sols prepared at 70°C, smaller titania particles (20 nm) and higher zeta potential (46.3 mV) were achieved with increasing TiO2 concentration up to 0.4 M. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) results of produced powders annealed at different temperatures showed that the 300°C annealed powder made from 0.1 M sol prepared at 50°C was a mixture of anatase and brookite, corresponding to a major phase of anatase (∼95% estimated), with the smallest average crystallite size of 1.3 nm and the highest specific surface area (SSA) of 193 m2/g. Furthermore, increasing TiO2 concentration up to 0.4 molar for the sols prepared at 70°C resulted in decreasing the average crystallite size (1.9 nm at 300°C) and increasing SSA (116 m2/g at 300°C) of the powders annealed at different temperatures. Anatase-to-rutile phase transformation temperature was increased with decreasing peptisation temperature down to 50°C, whereas TiO2 concentration had no effect on this transition. Anatase percentage increased with decreasing both peptisation temperature and TiO2 concentration. Such prepared powders can be used in many applications in areas from photo catalysts to gas sensors.  相似文献

The application of single-atom catalysts (SACs) to high-temperature hydrogenation requires materials that thermodynamically favor metal atom isolation over cluster formation. We demonstrate that Pd can be predominantly dispersed as isolated atoms onto TiO2 during the reverse water–gas shift (rWGS) reaction at 400 °C. Achieving atomic dispersion requires an artificial increase of the absolute TiO2 surface area by an order of magnitude and can be accomplished by physically mixing a precatalyst (Pd/TiO2) with neat TiO2 prior to the rWGS reaction. The in situ dispersion of Pd was reflected through a continuous increase of rWGS activity over 92 h and supported by kinetic analysis, infrared and X-ray absorption spectroscopies and scanning transmission electron microscopy. The thermodynamic stability of Pd under high-temperature rWGS conditions is associated with Pd-Ti coordination, which manifests upon O-vacancy formation, and the artificial increase in TiO2 surface area.  相似文献

The average size of particles of highly dispersed materials (Al2O3, TiO2, Y2O3) is calculated from their specific surface areas. The latter is determined with the analysis of sorption capacity of materials with nitrogen at ?196°C in the ranges of relative equilibrium pressures of 0.05–0.35 (the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method, BET) and 0.4–0.7 (the comparative method). Good agreement is obtained between results produced with the comparative method and familiar methods of analysis such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering.  相似文献

Bile salts (BS), one of the biological amphiphiles, are usually used as solubilizing/emulsifying agents of lipids or drugs. However, BS such as sodium deoxycholate (NaDC) can''t stabilize an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion alone due to its unusual molecular structure. In this paper we report that these emulsifiers with poor emulsifying ability can be transformed to highly efficient emulsifiers by combining with negatively charged particles (silica or montmorillonite). Both together can synergistically co-stabilize oil-in-water emulsions at extremely low concentrations (minimum 0.01 mM NaDC plus 0.003 wt% particles). Moreover, the emulsions can be reversibly switched between stable and unstable triggered by CO2/N2 at room temperature. This strategy is universal for emulsions containing different oils (alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons and triglycerides) and for different BS and offers a generic model for a variety of BS of different molecular structure, which will extend their applications in more technical fields such as emulsion polymerization, biphasic catalysis and emulsion extraction.

Bile salts can be converted to efficient emulsifiers assisted by a trace amount of similarly charged nanoparticles and the emulsions formed are CO2/N2 switchable at room temperature.  相似文献

Stable high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) with the ionic liquid 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethyl‐sulfonyl)imide as dispersed phase were prepared and polymerised thermally into polyHIPEs. All polyHIPEs exhibited pore morphologies similar to that of polyHIPEs obtained with an aqueous dispersed phase. PolyHIPEs containing the dispersed phase possess a low Tg and are thermally stable in excess of 200 °C, offering the potential for new porous materials where water as dispersed phase is chemically or physically undesirable.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) aerogels were prepared with sol–gel ambient pressure drying method by using titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) as precursor and tetraethoxysilane as modifier, calcinated at different temperature and characterized by X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and small angle X‐ray scattering. The results showed that the TiO2 aerogels remained amorphous under 500 °C, changed to anatase from 600 °C and further changed to rutile from 900 °C. Between 60 °C and 500 °C, the primary particles within the samples concentrated mainly upon small sizes, enlarged and diverged remarkably above 600 °C. The crystalline grains grew and agglomerated with the rise of the calcination temperature. The TiO2 aerogels at a temperature higher than 800 °C have better stability than anatase because of the formation of partial Ti―O―Si bonds. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
