Utilization of one waste material to control pollution caused by another is of high significance in the remediation of environmental
problems. Rice husk, an abundantly available agricultural waste, can be used as a low cost adsorbent for dyes and heavy metals
in effluent streams. The possible utilization of rice husk ash as an adsorbent for methylene blue dye from aqueous solutions
has been investigated. Ash samples from husks of two origins were prepared at different temperatures and their physical, chemical
spectroscopic and morphological properties were determined. XRD, FTIR and SEM were some of the techniques adopted for the
characterization. The samples were also analyzed for bulk density, pH, nitrogen adsorption properties and lime reactivity.
Experiments of methylene blue adsorption on the ash samples were conducted using batch technique and a comparative study was
made. Results were analyzed using linear, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The values of separation factor indicate that
most of the ash samples do adsorb the dye molecules, but in varying quantities. Calcination at 900∘C reduces the adsorption capacity of the ash to a great extent. Regression analysis shows that the experimental data fits
both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms for certain concentration limits. The adsorbate species are most probably transported
from the bulk of the solution into the solid phase through intra-particle diffusion process. Kinetics of adsorption was found
to follow pseudo second order rate equation with R
2∼ 0.99. The highest adsorption capacity (Q
0) achieved is found to be ∼690 mg/g, which is even higher than the values reported for activated carbon from rice husk. The
adsorption capacity of the ash samples are in good agreement with their surface area and pore volume. 相似文献

Dye wastewater from industries is posing tremendous health hazards. The lethal dyes can be eliminated using nanomaterials and scientific approach like adsorption which is facile, cheap, safe as well as ecofriendly. Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite was prepared by a hydrothermal method and used for the removal of dyes in wastewater. The composite material was characterized by various techniques such as XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM and FT-IR. The Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite was used to treat five types of dyes in water. Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite showed the highest adsorption capability for bromophenol blue (BPB) dye. The effects of initial concentration, pH, the amount of adsorbent and temperature were also studied. The optimum conditions were found to be 20 ppm dye concentration, pH 9, an adsorbent dose of 0.06 gL─1 at 65 °C. A removal efficiency of 97% was obtained for BPB dye during 120 min of adsorption. Kinetic studies indicated that a pseudo-second order is the most suitable model for the adsorption process. The Fe3O4-CuO-AC composite showed better adsorption capacity as compare to Fe3O4-AC except for the Methyl green dye. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 88.60 mg/g for BPB. Additionally, the thermodynamic parameters (ΔS°, ΔH° and ΔG°) showed that the process was spontaneous and exothermic. All the above results revealed that the Fe3O4-CuO-AC compositecan be an effective adsorbent for removing dyes from wastewater. 相似文献

Based on the abundance of seed-watermelon pulp (SWP) in Xinjiang, China, SWP was employed to prepare low-cost adsorbent toward the removal of methylene blue (MB). The effects of contact time at different initial concentration were studied. The widely used adsorption isotherm models including Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were employed to depict the adsorption process. The Langmuir isotherm was best fitted to the experimental data. Batch kinetic studies showed that an equilibrium time of 300 minutes was needed for the adsorption. The adsorption properties can be well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the MB uptake was not controlled by intraparticle diffusion mechanism. 相似文献

Novel magnetic titanium dioxide nanoparticles decorated with methyltrimethoxysilane (Fe3O4@TiO2‐MTMOS) were successfully fabricated via a sol–gel method at room temperature. The synthesized material was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and vibrating sample magnetometry. The removal efficiency of the adsorbent was evaluated through the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from water samples. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics were evaluated using various models. The Langmuir model indicated a high adsorption capacity (11.5 mg g?1) of Fe3O4@TiO2‐MTMOS. The nanocomposite exhibited high removal efficiency (96%) and good regeneration (10 times) compared to Fe3O4 and Fe3O4@TiO2 at pH = 9.0. Based on the adsorption mechanism, electrostatic interaction plays a main role in adsorption since MB dye is cationic in nature at pH = 9, whereas the adsorbent acquired an anionic nature. The newly synthesized Fe3O4@TiO2‐MTMOS can be used as a promising material for efficient removal of MB dye from aqueous media. 相似文献

Lauryl sulfate is utilized to functionalize magnetic graphene oxide (MGOLS) for fast removal of methylene blue (MB) using batch sorption experiments. The effects of different analytical parameters including medium pH, equilibration time, MGOLS dosage, initial MB concentration and temperature on the % MB removal are investigated. Among different isotherm and kinetic models, the experimental data were best fitted to the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order rate equations. The maximum Langmuir loading capacity reaches 624.42?mg g?1 for MGOLS under optimal conditions. Sorption kinetic of MGOLS is very fast: Approximately 96% of dye extraction was recorded within the first 2?minutes of this sorption process. The sorption mechanism is proposed and the feasibility, thermic and entropic characteristics were evaluated. Sorption and desorption performances of MGOLS are maintained almost constant over five cycles of sorption/desorption. The results concluded MGOLS as an efficient extractor for fast and feasible recovery of MB from aqueous matrices. 相似文献

The growth in textile and printing industries proven detrimental to the aquatic environment as the industrial waste containing dye seeped into the ecosystem. A high concentration of dye in water possess negative impacts on water ecosystem and harmful to human health. Removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from industrial waste via adsorption pathway has been widely investigated that promised high efficiency of MB removal. This review will summarize researches published from 2008 to 2019 on the removal of MB using carbon adsorbent with focus will be given on the synthesis and modification of carbon-based materials, and the structural properties influencing the performance of MB adsorption. Summary on the type of material used for the synthesis of carbon materials (activated carbon and biochar) will be included from utilization of the naturally occurring carbon sources such as polymers, biomasses and biowastes, and also sucrose and hydrocarbon gases. Modification of carbon materials such as chemical activation and physical activation; surface grafting to form functionalized surfaces; deposition with metal and magnetic nanoparticles via impregnation; and manufacturing of carbon composites will be discussed on the effects to promote MB adsorption and desorption. Another type of carbon adsorbents such as porous carbon; graphitic carbons including graphite, graphene, graphene oxide, and carbon nitride (g-C3N4); and finally nanocarbon in the form of nanotube, nanorod and nanofiber; will be included in the review with details on the synthesis method and the correlation between structural properties and adsorption activity. The regeneration process to increase the life cycle of carbon adsorbent will also be discussed based on two regeneration pathway i.e. a thermal degradation and desorption on MB. Finally the thermodynamics, kinetics, and the adsorption models of MB on carbon adsorbent will be discussed in this review. 相似文献

A helium‐neon laser was used as a light source to induce the photopolymerization of ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate in aqueous solution. A near‐infrared spectrometer was used to follow the polymerization. Methylene blue (MB) and triethanolamine were used as the basic photoinitiation system, and novel accelerators to the two‐component initiation system were investigated. The three‐component photoinitiation systems containing cobaltic complexes as accelerators were found to be very efficient in initiating the polymerization of the aforementioned water‐soluble monomer, and the efficiency was higher than that initiated by MB/triethanolamine/diphenyl iodonium chloride, which has been reported previously. Twin redox cycles between MB and cobaltic complexes was proposed to explain the acceleration effect of the cobaltic complexes. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Quartzite an efficient adsorbent for the removal of anionic and cationic dyes from aqueous solutions

Quartzite obtained from local source was investigated for the removal of anionic dye congo red (CR) and cationic dye malachite green (MG) as an adsorbent from aqueous solution in batch experiment. The adsorption process was studied as a function of dye concentration, contact time, pH and temperature. Adsorption process was described well by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption capacity remained 666.7 mg/g for CR dye and 348.125 mg/g for MG dye. Data was analyzed thermodynamically, ΔH0 and ΔG0 values proved that adsorption of CR and MG is an endothermic and spontaneous process. Adsorption data fitted best in the pseudo-first order kinetic model. The adsorption data proved that quartzite exhibits the best adsorption capacity and can be utilized for the removal of anionic and cationic dyes. 相似文献

AbstractEDCC-MCM-41, a novel ethylenediamine derivative of MCM-41 was synthesized from a sugar industry waste, bagasse fly ash. Studies were carried out on its ability to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. Its performance was also compared with that of unmodified MCM-41 and an already known derivative NH2-MCM-41 (both also synthesized from bagasse fly ash) at the same experimental conditions. Results show that the novel adsorbent produced a better sorption performance (adsorption capacity of 49.04?mg g?1) than MCM-41 and NH2-MCM-41 which produced adsorption capacities of 13.78?mg g?1 and 25.29?mg g?1 respectively. Thermodynamics, kinetics and isotherm studies confirm that the sorption process involving the novel adsorbent is favorable for Cr(VI) and can best be represented by pseudo-second-order kinetics model. 粉煤灰通过碱熔融 水热法合成了Na-X型沸石,研究了Na-X型沸石的用量、吸附时间、溶液pH值、初始镍离子浓度和温度对废水中镍离子去除效果的影响。结果表明,Na-X型粉煤灰沸石对镍离子的去除性能与化学原料合成的13X相当,明显优于粉煤灰。在20℃,pH值为6,沸石用量10g/L,吸附15min时,对初始浓度为20mg/L~150mg/L的镍离子去除率均可达90%以上。镍离子的吸附过程符合Langmiur吸附等温方程式,其单层吸附量为11.2×10-3。粉煤灰沸石重复使用5次,对废水中镍离子的去除率仍高达95%,再生性能良好。 相似文献

In this study, we report a simple and economic one-pot synthesis of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanostructure and its modification with tetraethyl orthosilicate by coprecipitation method. The synthesized (Fe3O4@SiO2) nano sorbent was applied for enhanced adsorptive removal of methylene blue by ultrasonic wave driven batch experiments. After successful synthesis, the nanostructure was characterized for their physical structure by FT-IR, VSM, TEM, and XRD. For the maximum adsorptive performance of nano sorbent, various parameters were optimized, such as dose, pH, time, concentration, and temperature. The adsorption mechanism was best fitted by Langmuir isotherm with a maximum capacity of 148.69 mg/g, while kinetics best fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic. The synthesized nano sorbent was successfully applied for enhanced adsorptive removal of toxic methylene blue from aqueous media. The proposed method is promising and effective in terms of simplicity, cost operation, green energy consumption, reproducible, excellent reusability, and magnetically separability with fast kinetic. 相似文献

Removal of Methylene Blue (MB) dye using Litchi Leaves Powder (LLP) material was carried out in batch mode. Effect of the mass of the adsorbent (0.1–2.5 g/L), pH of the solution (2−12), starting concentration of MB dye (50–150 mg/L), ionic strength using NaCl (0.1–0.5 M) as an electrolyte, contact time (0–60 min) on the adsorption of MB dye was studied. To calculate pH at which LLP material surface becomes neutral point of zero charge (pHpzc) is also determined and found to be 6.48. Removal process best fit in the pseudo-second-order kinetic model as indicated by its higher R2 value (0.999). Isotherm models (Freundlich and Langmuir) were fitted to the data obtained from the experiment to understand the adsorption behaviour. Result shows that experimental data were fitted to the both isotherm models (Freundlich and Langmuir) as indicated by higher R2 value for both Freundlich (0.991) and Langmuir (0.994) model, and it was determined that LLP has a maximum adsorption capacity of 119.76 mg/g. 相似文献

Physical adsorption is a common method to solve the contamination of methylene blue in dyeing wastewater. As a kind of adsorption material, cellulose aerogels with high porosity and surface areas have great potential application in methylene blue removal. However, the week hydrogen bonding between cellulose nanofibers making the cellulose aerogels with the poor mechanical properties and can be easily destroyed during adsorption. Hence, the preparation of cellulose aerogels with high mechanical strength is still a great challenge. Here, we report a robust super-assembly strategy to fabricate cellulose aerogels by combining cellulose nanofibers with PVA and M-K10. The resulting cellulose aerogels not only has a robust chemically cross-linked network, but also has strong H-bonds, which greatly enhance the mechanical properties. The resulting cellulose aerogels possess a low density of 19.32 mg/cm3.Furthermore, the cellulose aerogel shows 93% shape recovery under 60% strain(9.5 k Pa under 60% strain)after 100 cycles, showing excellent mechanical property. The adsorption capacity of cellulose aerogel to methylene blue solution of 20 mg/L is 2.28 mg/g and the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms have also been studied. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm model are more acceptable for indicating the adsorption process of methylene blue on the cellulose aerogel. Thus, this compressible and durable cellulose aerogel is a very prospective material for dyeing wastewater cleanup. 相似文献

The use of cheap and eco friendly adsorbents prepared from freely and abundantly available Acacia nilotica leaves have been investigated by batch methods. Microwave treated A. nilotica leaves (MVM) are more effective than chemically treated A. nilotica leaves (CVM) for the removal of rhodamine B (RH B) from aqueous solution. The effect of initial pH, contact time and initial dye concentration of RH B onto CVM and MVM has been investigated. The applicability of the linear form of Langmuir model to CVM and MVM was proved by the high correlation coefficients R2 = 0.9413 and 0.9681 for RH B adsorption. The R2 values were greater than 0.994 for all RH B concentrations, which indicates the applicability of the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The recycling ability of MVM is greater than CVM. The preparation of MVM does not require an additional chemical treatment step and it attains rapid equilibrium. Hence it is agreeing with the principles of green chemistry and less time is required to possess high adsorption of RH B. Therefore, the eco friendly adsorbent MVM is expected to be environmentally and economically feasible for the removal of RH B from aqueous solutions. 相似文献

The developing countries are suffering from the toxicity of different industrial effluents, especially dyes that contaminate water systems. This study successfully explained the preparation and characterization of nano bentonite to extract Direct Yellow Fifty (DY50). Direct Yellow 50 is an organic contaminant that may affect the quality of water. The characterization of prepared nanoparticles was done using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR). The impact of different operating conditions was studied using different pH, dose, temperature, contact time, and initial DY50 concentrations. The obtained results indicated that nano bentonite could adsorb about 94 % at initial concentrations of 40 mg/L, respectively. The optimum removal conditions were observed at an acidic pH (pH 3) using a sorbent material dosage of 0.05 g for 4 h at 30 °C. The adsorption isotherm, kinetic analysis, and thermodynamic behavior were studied using linear equation form, and the adjusted R2 was compared to detect the preferred models. The adsorption behavior pseudo-second order kinetics, and fitted Langmuir isotherm model, respectively, showed the chemisorption interactions between adsorbed and sorbed molecules. Thermodynamic behavior indicated that the reaction was exothermic. Finally, this study strongly recommended using nano bentonite for DY50 removal from an aqueous solution. 相似文献

This study is focused on the investigation of low iron lateritic clay-based geopolymer as a potential adsorbent for the higher uptake of Ni(II) and Co(II) ions from aqueous solutions. BET analysis revealed that the sieved geopolymer sample (SGS) was characterized by 17.441 m2/g of surface area, 0.005 cm3/g of pore volume, and 13.549 Å of pore diameter. SEM investigation confirmed the presence of pores and cavities onto the surface of SGS. XRD analysis showed that the geopolymer is semi-crystalline in nature. It was found that the adsorption ability of SGS remained 520 mg/g for Ni(II) ions and 500 mg/g for Co(II) ions when 0.5 M solutions were stirred with SGS for 60 min. The temperature and pH of the solution were maintained at 60 °C and 7.0, respectively. The adsorption data of both heavy metal (HM) ions fitted best in the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The low activation energy value i.e. 2.507 kJ/mol for Ni(II) ions and 2.286 kJ/mol for Co(II) ions confirmed adsorption is physisorption. Adsorption data were tested with Langmuir and Freundlich models, the data showed comparatively better fitting in the Freundlich model. The greater value of monolayer adsorption capacity (Xm) for Ni(II) ions was found 1.77 × 10−2 mol/g while for Co(II) ions it remained 1.69 × 10−2 mol/g confirming the better interaction of metal ions with the adsorbent surface. Negative values of ΔG° confirmed the spontaneity of the process while the positive value of ΔS° showed the randomness of adsorbate particles. The positive value of ΔH° showed that the adsorption process remained endothermic for both HM ions. The experimental results confirmed the ability of laterite clay-based geopolymer for better removal of HM ions and hence can be employed for the wastewater treatment processes at low-cost adsorbent. 相似文献

采用不同的处理工艺处理制备得到海螵蛸颗粒(CO),以活性炭(AC) 为空白对照,完成了三种海螵蛸颗粒在水溶剂体系下对亚甲基蓝(MB)和氰化氢(HCN)的吸附能力测试。实验结果显示,对MB吸附的能力:AC>>酸/碱处理并热活化的CO >酸/碱处理的CO>未经处理的CO; 对HCN的吸附能力:酸/碱处理并热活化的CO >酸/碱处理的CO > AC>未经处理的CO。这表明经过酸和碱处理、再热活化的CO有很强的HCN吸附能力,有望以其为原料制备出吸附力很强的HCN吸附材料,在卷烟烟气吸附方面具有良好的应用前景。 相似文献

Kinetic, equilibrium, and thermodynamic studies were performed for the batch adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on the high lime fly ash as a low cost adsorbent material. The studied operating variables were adsorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration, and temperature. The kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models and the adsorption kinetic was followed well by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The equilibrium data were fitted with the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin Radushkevich (D–R) isotherms and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Freundlich and D–R isotherms. Based on these two isotherms MB is taken by chemical ion exchange and active sites on the high lime fly ash have different affinities to MB molecules. Various thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of adsorption (ΔH°), free energy change (ΔG°), and entropy change (ΔS°) were investigated. The positive value of ΔH° and negative value of ΔG° indicate that the adsorption is endothermic and spontaneous. The positive value of ΔS° shows the increased randomness at the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption. A single-stage batch adsorber was also designed based on the Freundlich isotherm for the removal of MB by the high lime fly ash. 相似文献

Soret coefficients are measured conductimetrically for dilute aqueous solutions of the stepwise-associating ionic dyes methylene
blue (chloride salt) and methyl orange (sodium salt) at 25°C. In contrast to the behavior of other dilute aqueous electrolytes,
the Soret coefficients of the dyes increase with concentration. An approximate treatment of thermal diffusion of stepwise-associating
solutes is developed to interpret the results. The analysis is used to estimate the intrinsic enthalpies of transport of the
monomeric and the associated forms of the dyes. The enthalpy of association makes a large reactive contribution to the enthalpy
