The formation of ordered structure in hydrogels derived from copolymers of hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers with crystalline or liquid‐crystalline moieties is reviewed. The role of water in the formation of ordered structure and its influence on the thermal and mechanical properties of hydrogels are clarified. For example, by inducing a certain amount of water, an amorphous to crystalline transition occurs in gels of acrylic acid/alkyl acrylate copolymers. On the other hand, water induces a liquid‐crystalline (SmA) to liquid‐crystalline (SmI) transition in copolymers consisting of acrylic acid and 11‐(4′‐cyanobiphenyloxy)undecyl acrylate. These specific features regarding the formation of ordered structures in hydrogels might shed some light on the formation of ordered structure in biological tissues. 相似文献

The curing of a mesomorphic epoxy has been studied by polarized light microscopy (PLM) and differential scanning calorimetry. PLM in combination with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction proves the formation of a liquid crystalline (LC) structure. An advanced isoconversional method reveals that the formation of the LC structure is accompanied by a dramatic decrease in the effective activation from ∼60 to ∼10 kJ · mol−1. A kinetic model of the phenomenon has been discussed.

The relationship between the vector version and tensor version of Frank distortion energy for the liquid crystal was established, through which the relationship between the Frank elastic constants and the expansion coefficients of spatial derivatives for the orientational order parameter Sij of liquid crystalline polymer was obtained. Ginzberg-Landau equation for the orientational order parameter Sij was numerically solved by using the cell dynamical system, which involves a free energy functional containing Landau-de Gennes orientational free energy, Maier-Saupe anisotropic interaction free energy and Frank distortion free energy. Incase of the splay elastic constant being much lager than the bend elastic constant, the evolution process of band textures in liquid crystalline polymer during the shear relaxation and its small angle light scattering patterns were simulated. The influence of preshear rate on the band forming and band structure was investigated. It was found that the formation of longitudinal band textures is due to the much rapider longitudinal splay relaxation than the latitudinal bend relaxation, and the induced times of band forming and the characteristic length of band structure decrease with the increasing of preshear rate, which is consistent with the experimental results. 相似文献

A new mechanism is suggested for the anionic polymerization of isoprene. The key moment of this mechanism is thermal electron excitation of the complex of a living polymer with a monomer to the low lying S1 (T1) state involving a charge (electron) and (Li+) cation transfer from the terminal unit to the monomer molecule. It is stated that the probability of chemical bonding depends on the spin density on the radical centers of reactant molecules and on the geometry of the reaction complex. The semiempirical AM1 and ab initio 6-31G* quantum-chemical calculations revealed strong interaction for the ground electronic state of the complex (5-10 kcal/mole) and low energies of the excited triplet levels (<10 kcal/mole). 相似文献

三种不同分子量的壳聚糖[脱乙酰度均为(84±1)%]在二氯乙酸溶液中都呈现胆甾型溶致液晶相.临界浓度随分子量增加而降低,但均比同样聚合度的甲壳素的高.用偏光显微镜法和激光小角散射法测得的胆甾液晶相的螺距很相近,在浓度相同时,其值随分子量的增加而减小. 相似文献

Spontaneous development of chirality in systems composed of achiral molecules is important for new routes to asymmetric synthesis, chiral superstructures and materials, as well as for the understanding of the mechanisms of emergence of prebiotic chirality. Herein, it is shown that the 4,4′-diphenylbenzil unit is a universal transiently chiral bent building block for the design of multi-chained (polycatenar) rod-like molecules capable of forming a wide variety of helically twisted network structures in the liquid, the liquid crystalline (LC) and the crystalline state. Single polar substituents at the apex of tricatenar molecules support the formation of the achiral (racemic) cubic double network phase with Ia d symmetry and relatively small twist along the networks. The combination of an alkyl chain with fluorine substitution leads to the homogeneously chiral triple network phase with I23 space group, and in addition, provides a mirror symmetry broken liquid. Replacing F by Cl or Br further increases the twist, leading to a short pitch double gyroid Ia d phase, which is achiral again. The effects of the structural variations on the network structures, either leading to achiral phases or chiral conglomerates are analyzed. 相似文献

Following our recent synthesis and characterization of three new cationic polyelectrolytes with subtle hydrophobic variability, this paper reports their physical and chemical properties in aqueous media in relation to their chemical structure. Aryl substituted cationic polyelectrolytes varying with their charge density are reported for the first time. Viscosity studies show that these polymers display typical polyelectrolytic behavior. The flocculation efficiency of the polyelectrolytes was investigated with different counter ions. The zeta potential of the polyelectrolytes indicates the charge of the mono and diquaternary ammonium salts which is supported by chloride analysis. The morphology of polymer before and after flocculation was investigated. The introduction of methylene group and quaternary nitrogen play an important role in the flocculation process. It was shown that increasing the hydrophobicity and charge density of the aryl substituted polymer affects the flocculation in the industrial tannery effluent and bentonite suspension. 相似文献

An ideal solute for density gradient ultracentrifugation of polymers in aqueous solution should be inert and readily soluble in water to form an extended range of solution densities of low viscosity. High molecular weight is an added attraction because osmotic effects are minimized. Highly branched spherical synthetic polysaccharides fulfill these requirements. High degree of branching is a consequence of the condensation of polyfunctional monomers. Density and relative viscosity of solutions of polyglucose, sucrose, and of a natural sucrose polymer, Ficoll, are compared. The behavior of various polyelectrolytes was studied in low viscosity polyglucose density gradients in equilibrium buoyant density measurement in the ultra-centrifuge. Macromolecules or macromolecular complexes attain low apparent equilibrium buoyant density, probably because of an excluded volume effect of the solute. This allows sedimentation to isopycnic position of complex biopolymers in inert polyglucose solutions, which otherwise can be attempted only in concentrated solutions of heavy salts (such as CsCI or Cs2SO4). Such salts, however, may salt out, or through osmotic effects degrade or alter the properties of certain biologic macromolecular complexes. 相似文献

We report a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based imaging ensemble for the visualization of membrane potential in living cells. A water-soluble poly(fluorene-cophenylene) conjugated polyelectrolyte (FsPFc10) serves as a FRET donor to a voltage-sensitive dye acceptor (FluoVolt™). We observe FRET between FsPFc10 and FluoVolt™, where the enhancement in FRET-sensitized emission from FluoVolt™ is measured at various donor/acceptor ratios. At a donor/acceptor ratio of 1, the excitation of FluoVolt™ in a FRET configuration results in a three-fold enhancement in its fluorescence emission (compared to when it is excited directly). FsPFc10 efficiently labels the plasma membrane of HEK 293T/17 cells and remains resident with minimal cellular internalization for ~ 1.5 h. The successful plasma membrane-associated colabeling of the cells with the FsPFc10-FluoVolt™ donor-acceptor pair is confirmed by dual-channel confocal imaging. Importantly, cells labeled with FsPFc10 show excellent cellular viability with no adverse effect on cell membrane depolarization. During depolarization of membrane potential, HEK 293T/17 cells labeled with the donor-acceptor FRET pair exhibit a greater fluorescence response in FluoVolt™ emission relative to when FluoVolt™ is used as the sole imaging probe. These results demonstrate the conjugated polyelectrolyte to be a new class of membrane labeling fluorophore for use in voltage sensing schemes. 相似文献

对总浓度为0.01 mol/L,摩尔比为2:1的十二烷基硫酸钠/溴化十二烷基三乙 铵的正负离子表面活性剂混合体系形成的囊泡的稳定性进行了研究。发现这一体系 形成的囊泡在长放置(5个月)后依然存在。在加入较大量的无机盐(0.15 mol/L NaBr)、较大幅度pH变化(pH = 2~12)、温度变化(从80 ℃到-22 ℃)情况下 体系中的囊泡依然呈现出优异的稳定性。在非水溶剂乙醇(100%)中这类正负离子 表面活性剂仍然可以形成囊泡。 相似文献

用原子力显微镜、小角X射线散射和31PNMR分别对液晶态磷脂酰乙醇胺脂质体和LB膜结构进行了研究.用原子力显微镜观察到了液晶态脂质体的立方相和双层膜共存的结构图像.研究结果表明,两相共存的状态与双亲性分子的结构、浓度以及介质的组分和pH等因素有关.用小角X射线散射和31PNMR研究发现,在DEPE液晶态中,钠盐诱导形成Q229(Im3m)立方相.DEPE液晶态分别在37.5℃出现Lβ→Lα可逆相变,在63.5℃出现Lα→HⅡ可逆相变. 相似文献

The nature of crystallographic reactive sites on the lepidocrocite (gammaFeOOH) surface has been determined by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy and compared to the surface bonding properties of goethite. To this end, the specific surface areas of lepidocrocite particles, and of their crystal faces, were calculated from the size and shape of individual particles determined by AFM, and the structure of Cd surface complexes was determined from Cd-Fe EXAFS distances. The combined results show that Cd forms solely mononuclear surface complexes, even at 100% surface coverage, and that hydrated Cd octahedra sorb on basal {010} and lateral {hk0}, {h0l} faces of lepidocrocite platelets by sharing edges with surface Fe octahedra. The absence, or scarcity, of corner-sharing linkage between Fe and Cd octahedra on the surface of lepidocrocite is in contrast to goethite (alphaFeOOH), where this type of complex is predominant. The explanation for the observed difference of Cd sorption mechanism on these two polymorphs lies not in the shape and relative surface area of their crystallographic faces, but in their different bulk structures and, specifically, in the stacking mode of anion layers (O(2-), OH(-)) which is hexagonal in alphaFeOOH and cubic in gammaFeOOH. This study demonstrates that the stacking mode of anions in the sorbent solid is a key factor in determining the structure of surface complexes on mineral surfaces. 研究了烷基(C8,C12,C14)三甲基溴化铵、烷基(C12,C14)溴化吡啶与烷基(C8,C12)硫酸钠混合体系溶致液晶形成的条件与结构的变化.在高浓度的水溶液中,随着正、负离子表面活性剂摩尔比接近于1,液晶结构由六角相过渡为层状相.表面活性剂非极性链长改变,对相行为影响显著,短碳链的正、负离子表面活性剂混合体系,在等摩尔比时,体系为层状液晶或立方液晶为主,夹杂少许沉淀.随碳链增长,两类表面活性剂间的静电吸引效果表现为生成沉淀的摩尔比例范围变宽,沉淀量增多,共存的液晶相减少,甚至消失.若只改变正离子的极性头基,季胺盐比吡啶盐与烷基硫酸盐的作用要强,形成不溶物的混合摩尔比例范围更宽. 相似文献

合成了周边含4个丁氧基偶氮苯介晶基元(M5)端基新的零代光致变色液晶树状物(D0),并用元素分析、核磁共振、基质辅助激光解吸飞行时间质谱、红外、紫外、偏光显微镜、差示扫描量热(DSC)和广角X射线衍射法(WAXD)表征.D0显示向列相,与M5相同,树状物相态由介晶基元相态所决定,D0的相行为:K138N147I145N118K.对零代(D0)、一代(D1)、二代(D2)和三代(D3)液晶树状物的清亮焓、清亮熵、熔化焓和熔化熵进行了比较. 相似文献
