Polymer/SiO2 nanocomposite microspheres were prepared by double in situ miniemulsion polymerization in the presence of methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, γ‐methacryloxy(propyl) trimethoxysilane, and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). By taking full advantage of phase separation between the growing polymer particles and TEOS, inorganic/polymer microspheres were fabricated successfully in a one‐step process with the formation of SiO2 particles and the polymerization of organic monomers taking place simultaneously. The morphology of nanocomposite microspheres and the microstructure, mechanical properties, thermal properties, and optical properties of the nanocomposite films were characterized and discussed. The results showed that hybrid microspheres had a raspberry‐like structure with silica nanoparticles on the shells of polymer. The silica particles of about 20 nm were highly dispersed within the nanocomposite films without aggregations. The transmittance of nanocomposite film was comparable to that of the copolymer film at around 70–80% from 400 to 800 nm. The mechanical properties and the fire‐retardant behavior of the polymer matrix were improved by the incorporation of silica nanoparticles. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hybrid nanocomposite films of silica (SiO2) in polyimide (PI) from 4,4-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphthalic arhydride (6FDA), 2,2-Bis (3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane (6FHP) and nonlinear optical (NLO) molecule have been successfully fabricated by an in situ sol-gel process. The silica content in the hybrid films was varied from 0 to 22.5 wt%. These nanocomposite films exhibit fair good optical transparency. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy results confirm the formation of SiO2 particles in PI matrix. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that the SiO2 phase is well dispersed in the polymer matrix. Their glass transition behavior and thermal stability were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TG).  相似文献

Herein, we report on the synthesis of film-forming poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate-co-acrylic acid)/SiO2 [P(St-BA-AA)/SiO2] nanocomposites by in situ formation of SiO2 nanoparticles from TEOS via sol–gel process in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)-functionalized poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate) [P(St-BA)] particles fabricated by soap-free emulsion polymerization. The formed silica particles could be absorbed by polyacrylate chains on the surface of PAA-functionalized P(St-BA) particles; thus, raspberry-like polymer/silica nanocomposites would be obtained. Transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, attenuated total reflectance infrared spectrum, ultraviolet–visible transmittance spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis were used to characterize the resulting composites. The results showed that the hybrid polymer/silica had a raspberry-like structure with silica nanoparticles anchored on the surface of polymer microspheres. The thermal, fire retardant, and mechanical properties and water resistance of the film were improved by incorporating silica nanoparticles, while the optical transmittance was seldom affected due to nanosized silica particles uniformly dispersed in the film.

Film-forming polymer/silica nanocomposites with raspberry-like morphology have been successfully prepared via soap-free emulsion polymerization followed by the sol–gel process. The number and the size of SiO2 particles coated on the surface of polymer particles can be adjusted by the amounts of TEOS and ammonia. After the film formation of polymer/silica nanocomposites, silica nanoparticles are homogeneously dispersed within the film without aggregation.  相似文献

Nanocomposite polymer electrolytes based on polyethylene glycol diacrylate and 1 M LiBF4 solution in γ-butyrolactone with addition of SiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized and studied. Resistance measurement at the Li/electrolyte and Li/nanocomposite electrolyte interface by the time-resolved electrochemical impedance showed its significant decrease in the presence of SiO2 nanoparticles. Charge-discharge cycling of prototypes of Li/LiFePO4 batteries for 50 cycles also showed the advantage of using nanocomposite polymer electrolytes over electrolytes without SiO2 additives.  相似文献

There is a growing interest in the development of nanocomposites consisting of organic polymers and TiO2 or amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles. These nanoparticles may be released from nanocomposites. There is evidence that amorphous SiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles can be hazardous. Thus, in the design of nanocomposites with such nanoparticles, hazard reduction extending to the full nanocomposite life cycle would seem a matter to consider. Options for hazard reduction include: changes of nanoparticle surface, structure or composition, better fixation of nanoparticles in nanocomposites, including persistent suppression of oxidative damage to polymers by nanoparticles, and design changes leading to the release of relatively large particles.  相似文献

Water responsive SiO2/cellulose nanocomposite hydrogels and films were constructed, for the first time, by dispersing SiO2 nanoparticles into cellulose solution in LiOH/urea solvent, and then by crosslinking with epichlorohydrin or regeneration in coagulation bath, respectively. The cellulose nanocomposite materials were characterized by Field emission scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, dynamic rheology, wide angle X-ray diffraction and mechanical test. The SiO2/cellulose nanocomposites at wet state or in water displayed unique behaviors, showing higher light transmittance than those before contacting with water. The results revealed that strong hydrogen-bonding interaction among water, cellulose and SiO2 led the good dispersion of SiO2 nanoparticles in the cellulose matrix. The incorporation of SiO2 nanoparticles improved the transmittance and mechanical strength of the cellulose hydrogels, and also enhanced the mechanical strength of the films. Especially, the cellulose/SiO2 nanocomposite films were milky at dry state, and changed to transparent after being soaked in water, different from the cellulose film without the SiO2 nanoparticles. In our findings, SiO2 and cellulose with water could form strong hydrogen bonding to create a homogenous network structure. The cellulose/SiO2 composite as a smart material exhibited moisture and solvent responsiveness, showing potential applications in moisture detection.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, SiO2 nanoparticle-doped polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) lenses are made from a mixture of prepolymer, 5CB liquid crystal and SiO2 nanoparticles by the polymerisation induced phase separation (PIPS) process. The effect of SiO2 nanoparticles on the electro-optical properties of PDLC ?lms are studied. It is established that SiO2 nanoparticles affect the microstructure of PDLC ?lms signi?cantly because of the formed agglomerates of SiO2 nanoparticles. Results show an improvement in the electro-optical properties and a decrease in the response time for doped systems with small amount of SiO2 nanoparticles. We also observe a shift of nematic–isotropic transition temperature as a function of SiO2 nanoparticle contents. A good agreement between the electro-optical study and thermophysical properties is reached.  相似文献

PMMA/Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanocomposite with superparamagnetic behavior was synthesized by in situ emulsion polymerization of methylmethacrylate (MMA) monomer in the presence of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 colloidal suspension assisted by ultrasonic irradiation. The obtained samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). XRD and FT-IR spectra confirmed the formation of PMMA/Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanocomposite. TEM images showed that Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles with the particle sizes of about 12 nm were well dispersed in the polymer matrix. The nanocomposite at room temperature exhibited superparamagnetic behavior under applied magnetic field. The formation mechanism of PMMA/Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanocomposite was proposed as well.  相似文献

Polyethylene/TiO2 membranes were fabricated via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method. A set of characterization tests including FE‐SEM, EDX, XRD, DSC, TGA, DMA, mechanical test and relative pure water flux for characterization of membranes were carried out to investigate the effect of TiO2 nanoparticles on membrane properties. The results of EDX, XRD and TGA analyses confirmed the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. The results of DSC analysis revealed that the melting point as well as the crystallinity of the membranes increased slightly with increasing TiO2 content. However, the glass transition temperature of the membranes was not affected by the presence of particles. Addition of nanoparticles also increased storage modulus, loss modulus and tensile strength at break of the membranes due to the stiffness improvement effect of inorganic TiO2. Finally, it was observed that incorporation of the nanoparticles improved pure water flux of the membranes. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A step towards the understanding of some mechanistic events occurring in the styrene Pickering emulsions, using a SiO2 dispersion, is presented. Polymerizations at 80°C with different levels of a water soluble initiator were performed. The emulsion polymer content was ca. 15% with conversions close to 90%. With conversion and particle size measurements, the particle density was estimated for bare and surface modified SiO2 particles. Then, the average number of radicals per particle was inferred, yielding a pseudo-bulk type polymerization. It was found that bare SiO2 nanoparticles do not participate in the nucleation mechanism; however, they, along with the initiator, promote an enhanced oligomer coagulation. On the other hand, the hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide modified SiO2 nanoparticles do participate in the nucleation and coagulation mechanisms, yielding more stable and smaller poorly-covered polymer particles. This approach allowed untangling some events such as: particle nucleation, radical entry to particles, particle density, coagulation and vitreous and Trommsdorff effects.  相似文献

Nano oxides (SiO2, CeO2, SnO2) were successfully synthesized by solid-state reactions at ambient temperature. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, TEM, BET, and TGA-DTA. The SiO2 particles were also investigated using IR spectra. Effects of calcination on the nanoparticles were studied in this paper. The solid-state reaction technique is a convenient, inexpensive and an effective preparation method of monodisperse oxide nanoparticles in high yield. The mechanisms of the formation of nano materials by solid-state reactions at ambient temperature were primarily investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

Vegetable oil based environmentally friendly polyurethane-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings have been synthesized by using sunflower oil derived diol, toluene diisocyanate and TiO2 nanoparticles. The chemical structure was confirmed by FTIR and NMR techniques while physico-chemical testing was carried out by standard laboratory methods. Physico-mechanical and anticorrosive tests of the coatings (in different corrosive media) have been investigated by standard methods. In addition to this the morphology and thermal stability behavior of the coatings have been carefully investigated by different techniques like XRD, TEM, TGA/DTG and DSC. The comparison of the performance of nanocomposites with the respective virgin polyurethane coatings reveals that the dispersion of nanoTiO2 enhanced the mechanical, corrosion and thermal stability behavior of the polymer. The synthesized nanocomposites can be used safely upto 250–275?°C. These sunflower oil derived polyurethane nanocomposites can be used in the world of protective coatings, as an alternative of petroleum derived corrosion protective coating materials.  相似文献

Surface modified TiO2 nanoparticles dissolved in toluene were encapsulated in PMMA by in situ radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile. The surface modification of the TiO2 nanoparticles (average diameter of 4.5 nm) was achieved by the formation of a charge transfer complex between TiO2 nanoparticles and 6-palmitate ascorbic acid. The surface modified TiO2/nanoparticles were characterized using UV−Vis and FTIR spectroscopy, while the obtained polymer nanocomposites were characterized using reflection and 1H NMR spectroscopy, as well as gel permeation chromatography. The influence of the TiO2 nanoparticles on the thermal properties of the PMMA matrix was investigated using thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The glass transition temperature of the polymer was not influenced by the presence of the nanoparticles while the thermal stability was significantly improved.  相似文献

A new method of surface modification of TiO2 nanoparticles by surface-grafting l-lactic acid oligomer was developed. The surface-grafting reaction was evaluated by Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that l-lactic acid oligomer could be easily grafted onto the TiO2 nanoparticles surface in the presence of stannous octanoate and the highest amount of grafted polymer was about 8.5% in weight. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results showed that grafted TiO2 (g-TiO2) in chloroform or PLLA matrix approximated to uniform, while unmodified TiO2 nanoparticles tended to aggregate. The tensile strength of this material was greatly improved by the addition of g-TiO2 nanoparticles in poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) matrix. The tensile strength of the g-TiO2/PLLA nanocomposite containing 5 wt.% of g-TiO2 was 72 MPa, which was 23.1% higher than that of pure PLLA. Even though the incorporation of the TiO2 nanoparticles into PLLA led to the deterioration of its elongation at break, the g-TiO2/PLLA nanocomposite also exhibited better ductility than that of TiO2/PLLA nanocomposite.  相似文献

Epoxy based nanocomposite samples containing SiO2 nanoparticles (0.0–3.0 %w) were prepared for physical and mechanical evaluation. Some thermomechanical and physical properties of samples were investigated using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile strength, hardness and abrasion tests. The main aim of experimentation was to realize the optimum amount of nano-SiO2 which would demonstrate the best improving effect on mechanical and physical properties of nanocomposite samples and finding how significant a factor is for improving in physical and mechanical properties. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied for optimization of SiO2 content in epoxy based nanocomposites.  相似文献

The effect of nanoparticles on glass-transition temperature T g and the elastic modulus of a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin cured with methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride is theoretically analyzed. The analysis was performed with allowance for the following factors: the chemical structure of the polymer, the chemical structures of the nanoparticles and their surfaces if they are modified, the concentrations and shapes of nanoparticles (spherical, plate, cylindrical), the concentration of functional groups on the surfaces of nanoparticles, the energy of intermolecular interaction between a polymer and a nanoparticle, and the possibility of chemical interaction between a polymer and the surfaces of nanoparticles. The most pronounced effect on T g is exerted by cylindical nanotubes, whose surfaces are modified with OH groups, which give rise to hydrogen bonding. The least effect is exerted by spherical nanoparticles. After the introduction of SiO2 nanoparticles, the elastic moduli of nanocomposites increase by a factor of 1.15 at an amount of nanoparticles up to 20%.  相似文献

In the present work, a novel polymer electrolyte based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/layered lithium trivanadate (LiV3O8) nanocomposite has been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) study shows that d-spacing is increased from 6.3?±?0.1 Å to 12.8?±?0.1 Å upon intercalation of the polymer into the layered LiV3O8. Room temperature ionic conductivity of the obtained nanocomposite gel polymer electrolyte is found to be superior to that of conventional PMMA-based gel polymer electrolyte. Enhancement in ionic conductivity of the nanocomposite gel electrolyte is attributed to the formation of a two-dimensional channel as a result of decreased interaction between Li+ and V3O 8 ? layers as confirmed by FTIR. SEM results show aggregation of nanocomposite particles resulting from extension of some of the polymer chains from interlayer to the edge providing paths for Li+ ion transport. Interfacial stability of nanocomposite gel electrolyte is also found to be better than that of the conventional PMMA-based gel polymer electrolyte.  相似文献

Poly(l-lactic acid)-TiO2 nanoparticle nanocomposite films were prepared by incorporating surface modified TiO2 nanoparticles into polymer matrices. In the process of preparing the nanocomposite films, severe aggregation of TiO2 nanoparticles could be reduced by surface modification by using carboxylic acid and long-chain alkyl amine. As a result, the nanocomposite films with high transparency, similar to pure PLA films, were obtained without depending on the amount of added TiO2 nanoparticles. A TEM micrograph of the nanocomposite films suggests that the TiO2 nanoparticles of 3-6 nm in diameter were uniformly dispersed in polymer matrices. Photodegradation of PLA-TiO2 nanoparticle nanocomposite films was also investigated. The results showed that nanocomposite films could be efficiently photodegraded by UV irradiation in comparison with pure PLA.  相似文献

Ultrasonically assisted in situ emulsion polymerization was used to prepare electrically conducting copolymer poly(aniline‐co‐p‐phenylenediamine) [poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)] and silica (SiO2) nancomposites. This approach can solve problems in the dispersion and stabilization of SiO2 nanoparticles in the copolymer matrix. It was found that the aggregation of SiO2 nanoparticles could be reduced under ultrasonic irradiation. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) confirmed that the resulting poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)/SiO2 nanocomposite particles were spherical in shape, in which SiO2 nanoparticles were well dispersed. The comonomer molecules were absorbed on the surface of SiO2 particles and then polymerized to form core–shell nanocomposite. The incorporation of SiO2 in the nanocomposite was supported by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). UV‐visible spectra of the diluted colloid dispersion of nanocomposite particles were similar to those of the neat copolymer. Conductivity of nanocomposites was higher than the value obtained for the neat copolymer. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
