Second order three-point boundary value problems in abstract spaces

In this paper we investigate the existence of solutions of the nonhomogeneous three-point boundaryvalue problem We search for solutions of the above problem in the Banach space of continuous functions C（[O, 1], E） with the Pettis integrability assumptions imposed on $. Some classes of Pettis-integrable functions are described in the paper and exploited in the proofs of main results. We stress on a class of pseudo-solutions of considered problem. Our results extend previous results of the same type for both Bochner and Pettis integrability settings. Similar results are also proved for differential inclusions i.e. when f is a multivalued function.     

Unconstrained optimization reformulations of equilibrium problems

We generalize the D-gap function developed in the literature for variational inequalities to a general equilibrium problem （EP）. Through the D-gap function, the equilibrium problem is cast as an unconstrained minimization problem. We give conditions under which any stationary point of the D-gap function is a solution of EP and conditions under which it provides a global error bound for EP. Finally, these results are applied to box-constrained EP and then weaker conditions are established to obtain the desired results for box-constrained EP.     

Second Order Nonlinear Evolution Inclusions Ⅰ： Existence and Relaxation Results

This is the first part of a work on second order nonlinear, nonmonotone evolution inclusions defined in the framework of an evolution triple of spaces and with a multivalued nonlinearity depending on both x（t） and x（t）. In this first part we prove existence and relaxation theorems. We consider the case of an usc, convex valued nonlinearity and we show that for this problem the solution set is nonempty and compact in C^1 （T, H）. Also we examine the Isc, nonconvex case and again we prove the existence of solutions. In addition we establish the existence of extremal solutions and by strengthening our hypotheses, we show that the extremal solutions are dense in C^1 （T, H） to the solutions of the original convex problem （strong relaxation）. An example of a nonlinear hyperbolic optimal control problem is also discussed.     

Well-posedness of equations with fractional derivative

We study the well-posedness of the equations with fractional derivative D^αu（t） = Au（t） ＋ f（t）,0≤ t ≤ 2π, where A is a closed operator in a Banach space X, α 〉 0 and D^α is the fractional derivative in the sense of Weyl. Using known results on LP-multipliers, we give necessary and/or sufficient conditions for the LP-well-posedness of this problem. The conditions we give involve the resolvent of A and the Rademacher boundedness. Corresponding results on the well-posedness of this problem in periodic Besov spaces, periodic Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and periodic Hardy spaces are also obtained.     

Second Order Nonlinear Evolution Inclusions Ⅱ： Structure of the Solution Set

We contimle the work initiated in [1] （Second order nonlinear evolution inclusions I： Existence and relaxation results. Acta Mathematics Science, English Series, 21（5）, 977-996 （2005）） and study the structural properties of the solution set of second order evolution inclusions which are defined in the analytic framework of the evolution triple. For the convex problem we show that the solution set is compact Rs, while for the nonconvex problem we show that it is path connected, Also we show that the solution set is closed only if the multivalued nonlinearity is convex valued. Finally we illustrate the results by considering a nonlinear hyperbolic problem with discontinuities.     

Impulsive Boundary Value Problems for First-order Ordinary Differential Inclusions

In this paper, we investigate the existence of solutions for impulsive first order ordinary differential inclusions which admitting nonconvex valued right hand side. We present two classes of results. In the first one, we rely on a fixed point theorem for contraction multivalued maps due to Covitz and Nadler, and for the second one, we use Schacfer＇s fixed point theorem combined with lower semi-continuous multivalued operators with decomposable values under weaker conditions.     

A new class of generalized quasi-variational inequalities with applications to Oseen problems under nonsmooth boundary conditions

In this paper, we study a generalized quasi-variational inequality(GQVI for short) with two multivalued operators and two bifunctions in a Banach space setting. A coupling of the Tychonov fixed point principle and the Katutani-Ky Fan theorem for multivalued maps is employed to prove a new existence theorem for the GQVI. We also study a nonlinear optimal control problem driven by the GQVI and give sufficient conditions ensuring the existence of an optimal control. Finally, we illustrate the appli...     

A mixed finite element method for the unilateral contact problem in elasticity

In this paper, we provide a new mixed finite element approximation of the varia-tional inequality resulting from the unilateral contact problem in elasticity. We use the continuous piecewise P2-P1 finite element to approximate the displacement field and the normal stress component on the contact region. Optimal convergence rates are obtained under the reasonable regularity hypotheses. Numerical example verifies our results.     

The Two-dimensional Electromagnetic Scattering from Periodic Chiral Structures and Its Finite Element Approximation

In this paper, we consider the electromagnetic scattering from periodic chiral structures. The structure is periodic in one direction and invariant in another direction. The electromagnetic fields in the chiral medium are governed by the Maxwell equations together with the Drude-Born-Fedorov equations. We simplify the problem to a two-dimensional scattering problem and we show that for all but possibly a discrete set of wave numbers, there is a unique quasi-periodic weak solution to the diffraction problem. The diffraction problem can be solved by finite element method. We also establish uniform error estimates for the finite element method and the error estimates when the truncation of the nonlocal transparent boundary operators takes place.     

DOUBLE INERTIAL PROXIMAL GRADIENT ALGORITHMS FOR CONVEX OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS AND APPLICATIONS

In this paper, we propose double inertial forward-backward algorithms for solving unconstrained minimization problems and projected double inertial forward-backward algorithms for solving constrained minimization problems. We then prove convergence theorems under mild conditions. Finally, we provide numerical experiments on image restoration problem and image inpainting problem. Quasi-parabolic analytic transformations of <Emphasis Type="Bold">C</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Superscript>. Parabolic manifolds

In [Rong, F., Quasi-parabolic analytic transformations of C ⁿ , J. Math. Anal. Appl. 343 (2008), 99–109], we showed the existence of “parabolic curves” for certain quasi-parabolic analytic transformations of C ⁿ . Under some extra assumptions, we show the existence of “parabolic manifolds” for such transformations.     

A fixed point theorem for <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript>1</Superscript> spaces

We prove a fixed point theorem for a family of Banach spaces including notably L ¹ and its non-commutative analogues. Several applications are given, e.g. the optimal solution to the “derivation problem” studied since the 1960s.     

Nonsmooth generalized guiding functions for periodic differential inclusions

We consider the periodic problem for differential inclusions in $$ \user2{\mathbb{R}}^{\rm N} $$ with a nonconvex-valued orientor field F(t, ζ), which is lower semicontinuous in $$ \zeta \in \user2{\mathbb{R}}^{\rm N} $$ Using the notion of a nonsmooth, locally Lipschitz generalized guiding function, we prove that the inclusion has periodic solutions. We have two such existence theorems. We also study the “convex” periodic problem and prove an existence result under upper semicontinuity hypothesis on F(t, ·) and using a nonsmooth guiding function. Our work was motivated by the recent paper of Mawhin-Ward [23] and extends the single-valued results of Mawhin [19] and the multivalued results of De Blasi-Górniewicz-Pianigiani [4], where either the guiding function is C¹ or the conditions on F are more restrictive and more difficult to verify.     

The <Emphasis Type="Italic">(S)</Emphasis><Stack><Subscript>+</Subscript><Superscript>1</Superscript></Stack>Condition for Generalized Vector Variational Inequalities

In this paper, we extend the (S) ₊ ¹ condition to multivalued mappings in an ordered Hausdorff topological vector space and we derive some existence results for generalized vector variational inequalities associated with multivalued mappings satisfying the (S) ₊ ¹ condition. We generalize also an existence result of Cubiotti and Yao for generalized variational inequalities of class (S) ₊ ¹ to barreled normed spaces. Remarks on the geometry of coordinate projections in ℝ<Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis></Superscript>

We study geometric properties of coordinate projections. Among other results, we show that if a bodyK⊂ℝ ⁿ has an “almost extremal” volume ratio, then it has a projection of proportional dimension which is close to the cube. We also establish a sharp estimate on the shattering dimension of the convex hull of a class of functions in terms of the shattering dimension of the class itself.     

Group invariance and <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript>-bounded operators

The Hilbert and Riesz transforms can be characterized up to scalar as the translation invariant operators that satisfy additionally certain relative invariance of conformal transformation groups. In this article, we initiate a systematic study of translation invariant operators from group theoretic viewpoints, and formalize a geometric condition that characterizes specific multiplier operators uniquely up to scalar by means of relative invariance of affine subgroups. After providing some interesting examples of multiplier operators having “large symmetry”, we classify which of these examples can be extended to continuous operators on L ^p (R ⁿ ) (1 < p < ∞). T. Inversive congruential generator over a Galois ring of dimension <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">l</Emphasis></Superscript>

We consider the construction of of an inversive congruential generator over a Galois ring of odd dimension p ^l , whichwas proposed by Solé and Zinoviev for p = 2. Using the estimates of trigonometric sums on the sequences of pseudorandom numbers, we obtain the estimates of a discrepant function, a generated sequence of pseudorandom numbers, and the associated sequence of two-dimensional “overlapping” points.     

The <Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>-observability and <Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>-controllability of linear differential-algebraic systems

We study the R-controllability (the controllability within the attainability set) and the R-observability of time-varying linear differential-algebraic equations (DAE). We analyze DAE under assumptions guaranteeing the existence of a structural form (which is called “equivalent”) with separated “differential” and “algebraic” subsystems. We prove that the existence of this form guarantees the solvability of the corresponding conjugate system, and construct the corresponding “equivalent form” for the conjugate DAE. We obtain conditions for the R-controllability and R-observability, in particular, in terms of controllability and observability matrices. We prove theorems that establish certain connections between these properties.     

Positivity of Chern classes for reflexive sheaves on <Emphasis Type="Bold">P</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis></Superscript>

In this paper we study the Brill–Noether theory of invertible subsheaves of a general, stable rank-two vector bundle on a curve C with general moduli. We relate this theory to the geometry of unisecant curves on smooth, non-special scrolls with hyperplane sections isomorphic to C. Most of our results are based on degeneration techniques. The first three authors are members of G.N.S.A.G.A. at I.N.d.A.M. “Francesco Severi”.     

Multi-parameter singular radon transforms I: The <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript>2</Superscript> theory

The purpose of this paper is to study the L ² boundedness of operators of the form f ↦ ψ(x) ∫ f (γ _t (x))K(t)dt, where γ _t (x) is a C ^∞ function defined on a neighborhood of the origin in (t, x) ∈ ℝ ^N × ℝ ⁿ , satisfying γ ₀(x) ≡ x, ψ is a C ^∞ cut-off function supported on a small neighborhood of 0 ∈ ℝ ⁿ , and K is a “multi-parameter singular kernel” supported on a small neighborhood of 0 ∈ ℝ ^N . The goal is, given an appropriate class of kernels K, to give conditions on γ such that every operator of the above form is bounded on L ². The case when K is a Calderón-Zygmund kernel was studied by Christ, Nagel, Stein, and Wainger; we generalize their conditions to the case when K has a “multi-parameter” structure. For example, when K is given by a “product kernel.” Even when K is a Calderón- Zygmund kernel, our methods yield some new results. This is the first paper in a three part series, the later two of which are joint with E. M. Stein. The second paper deals with the related question of L ^p boundedness, while the third paper deals with the special case when γ is real analytic.
