Four seemingly simple transformations related to the chemistry of methane will be addressed from mechanistic and conceptual points of view: 1) metal-mediated dehydrogenation to form metal carbene complexes, 2) the hydrogen-atom abstraction step in the oxidative dimerization of methane, 3) the mechanisms of the CH(4)→CH(3)OH conversion, and 4) the initial bond scission (C-H vs. O-H) as well as the rate-limiting step in the selective CH(3)OH→CH(2)O oxidation. State-of-the-art gas-phase experiments, in conjunction with electronic-structure calculations, permit identification of the elementary reactions at a molecular level and thus allow us to unravel detailed mechanistic aspects. Where appropriate, these results are compared with findings from related studies in solution or on surfaces.  相似文献

The treatment of [Ru3(CO)12] with 6,6'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (Me2bipy) or 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Me2phen) in THF at reflux temperature gives the trinuclear dihydride complexes [Ru3(mu-H)2(mu3-L1)(CO)8] (L1 = HCbipyMe 1 a, HCphenMe 1 b), which result from the activation of two C-H bonds of a methyl group. The hexa-, hepta-, and pentanuclear derivatives [Ru6(mu3-H)(mu5-L2)(mu-CO)3(CO)13] (L2 = CbipyMe 2 a, CphenMe 2 b), [Ru7(mu3-H)(mu5-L2)(mu-CO)2(CO)16] (L2 = CbipyMe 3 a, CphenMe 3 b), and [Ru5(mu-H)(mu5-C)(mu-L3)(CO)13] (L3 = bipyMe 4 a, phenMe 4 b) can also be obtained by treating 1 a and 1 b with [Ru3(CO)12]. Compounds 2 a and 2 b have a basal edge-bridged square-pyramidal metallic skeleton with a carbyne-type C atom capping the four Ru atoms of the pyramid base. The structures of 3 a and 3 b are similar to those of 2 a and 2 b, respectively, but an additional Ru atom now caps a triangular face of the square-pyramidal fragment of the metallic skeleton. The most interesting feature of 2 a, 2 b, 3 a, and 3 b is that their carbyne-type C atoms were originally bound to three hydrogen atoms in Me2bipy or Me2phen and, therefore, they arise from the unprecedented activation of all three C-H bonds of C-bound methyl groups. The pentanuclear compounds 4 a and 4 b contain a carbide ligand surrounded by five Ru atoms in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environment. They are the products of a series of processes that includes the activation of all bonds (three C-H and one C-C) of organic methyl groups, and are the first examples of complexes having carbide ligands that arise from C-bonded methyl groups. The alkenyl derivatives [Ru5(mu5-C)(mu-p-MeC6H4CHCHphenMe)(CO)13] (5 b), [Ru5(mu-H)(mu5-C)(mu-p-MeC6H4CHCHphenMe)(p-tolC2)(CO)12] (6 b), and [Ru5(mu-H)(mu5-C)(mu-PhCHCHphenMe)(PhC2)(CO)12] (7 b) have been obtained by treating 4 b with p-tolyl- and phenylacetylene, respectively. Their heterocyclic ligands contain an alkenyl fragment in the position that was originally occupied by a methyl group. Therefore, these complexes are the result of the formal substitution of an alkenyl group for a methyl group of 2,9-dimethyl-1,10- phenanthroline.  相似文献

Gas-phase experiments with state-of-the-art techniques of mass spectrometry provide detailed insights into numerous elementary processes. The focus of this Review is on elementary reactions of ions that achieve complete catalytic cycles under thermal conditions. The examples chosen cover aspects of catalysis pertinent to areas as diverse as atmospheric chemistry and surface chemistry. We describe how transfer of oxygen atoms, bond activation, and coupling of fragments can be mediated by atomic or cluster metal ions. In some cases truly unexpected analogies of the idealized gas-phase ion catalysis can be drawn with related chemical transformations in solution or the solid state, and so improve our understanding of the intrinsic operation of a practical catalyst at a strictly molecular level.  相似文献

Well-defined surface alkylidenes and alkylidynes can be compared to their molecular counterparts in structural features and formation pathways, but their reactivity towards alkanes is strikingly different. They catalyse the metathesis of alkanes and cross-metathesis of alkanes, whereas no single-component molecular system is known to do so. Herein, we study such reactivity in terms of structure-activity relationships, to further propose a comparison to the reactivity of well-defined group 4-6 supported hydrides, focused on the alkane metathesis and alkane hydrogenolysis processes. There, the formation of intermediates containing alkylidenes and alkylidynes nicely pinpoints their pre-eminence in the catalytic conversion of alkanes, always in agreement with the elementary steps of molecular organometallic chemistry. Finally, a number of relevant reactions where the formation of alkylidene/alkylidyne intermediates has been presumed are also presented.  相似文献

The interaction of AlR2(BHT)(OEt2) and AlMe(BHT)2 with methylmethacrylate (MMA) leads to the formation of the Lewis acid-base complexes AlR2(BHT)(MMA) [R = Me (1), Et (2)] and AlMe-(BHT)2(MMA) (3), respectively. The molecular structure of 1 has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The decrease in the C=O and C=C stretching frequencies in the IR spectrum, and downfield shift in the 13C NMR spectrum of the - and γ-carbons of the MMA, when compared to free MMA, is presented with respect to the activator ability of sterically crowded aryloxide compounds of aluminum to aluminum-porphyrin catalyzed (Inoue) polymerization of MMA.  相似文献

Deprotonation of calix[6]arenes with barium in methanol followed by the addition of [Ti(OPr(i))(4)] or [Zr(OBu(n))(4)] is effective in the formation of novel dimeric 2:1 barium-titanium(IV)/zirconium(IV) calix[6]arene complexes. In these complexes a central Ti(IV)/Zr(IV) coordinated in the exo-position connects the two calix[6]arenes in the 1,3-alternate conformation, each with an endo-barium sharing common phenolate groups with the titanium/zirconium centre and participating in cation-pi interactions. A homometallic barium calix[6]arene dimer was also prepared wherein the calix[6]arenes are in the 1,3-alternate conformation with each coordinating one endo- and one exo-barium centre. The exo-barium cations connect the two calix[6]arenes through bridging methanol ligands. In this and the heterometallic complexes, cation-pi complexation of the Ba(2+) ion within the 1,3 alternate conformation of calix[6]arene facilitates the formation of the dimeric complexes in methanol. In contrast, the smaller Sr(2+) ion did not form similar complexes in methanol, and the formation of an analogous 2:1 strontium-titanium calixarene complex required the use of the more sterically demanding donor alcohol, isopropanol, the resulting complex being devoid of cation-pi interaction. The results show (i) that a subtle interplay of solvation strength, coordination array type and cavity/cation size influences the accessibility of heterobimetallic complexes based on calix[6]arenes, and (ii) a synergistic endo-exo binding behaviour.  相似文献

There has been a renewed interest in the chemistry of hydrogen as a result of the ever-increasing global demands for energy. Recent studies have revealed new electronically unsaturated polynuclear metal complexes containing bulky ligands that exhibit a variety of reactions with hydrogen, including facile addition and elimination under mild conditions. Materials and molecules that can reversibly absorb large quantities of hydrogen are very attractive for hydrogen storage and hydrogenation catalysis. This Minireview summarizes recent studies of reactions of hydrogen with unsaturated mixed-metal cluster complexes containing platinum and bulky phosphine ligands. Some related studies on bimetallic cooperativity and the synthesis of trimetallic nanoparticles on mesoporous supports that exhibit high activity and selectivity for catalytic hydrogenations are also discussed.

The nonadditivity of methyl group in the single‐electron hydrogen bond of the methyl radical‐water complex has been studied with quantum chemical calculations at the UMP2/6‐311++G(2df,2p) level. The bond lengths and interaction energies have been calculated in the four complexes: CH3? H2O, CH3CH2? H2O, (CH3)2CH? H2O, and (CH3)3C? H2O. With regard to the radicals, tert‐butyl radical forms the strongest hydrogen bond, followed by iso‐propyl radical and then ethyl radical; methyl radical forms the weakest hydrogen bond. These properties exhibit an indication of nonadditivity of the methyl group in the single‐electron hydrogen bond. The degree of nonadditivity of the methyl group is generally proportional to the number of methyl group in the radical. The shortening of the C···H distance and increase of the binding energy in the (CH3)2CH? H2O and (CH3)3C? H2O complexes are less two and three times as much as those in the CH3CH2? H2O complex, respectively. The result suggests that the nonadditivity among methyl groups is negative. Natural bond orbital (NBO) and atom in molecules (AIM) analyses also support such conclusions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2009  相似文献

Methyl radical complexes H3C…HCN and H3C…HNC have been investigated at the UMP2(full)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ level to elucidate the nature of hydrogen bonds. To better understand the intermolecular H‐bond interactions, topological analysis of electron density at bond critical points (BCP) is executed using Bader's atoms‐in‐molecules (AIM) theory. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis has also been performed to study the orbital interactions and change of hybridization. Theoretical calculations show that there is no essential difference between the blue‐shift H‐bond and the conventional one. In H3C…HNC complex, rehybridization is responsible for shortening of the N? H bond. The hyperconjugative interaction between the single electron of the methyl radical and N? H antibonding orbital is up to 7.0 kcal/mol, exceeding 3.0 kcal/mol, the upper limit of hyperconjugative n(Y)→σ*(X–H) interaction to form the blue‐shifted H‐bond according to Alabugin's theory. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The metal-carbon bonds in metal-carboranyl and metal-carboryne complexes behave very differently from those in classical organometallic complexes. The unique electronic and steric properties of ico-sahedral carboranyl moiety make the M-C bond in metal-carboranyl complexes inert toward unsaturated molecules, and on the other hand, the sterically demanding carborane cage can induce unexpected C-C coupling reactions. The M-C bonds in metal-carboryne complexes are, however, active toward various kinds of unsatu...  相似文献

The bowl‐shaped C6v B36 cluster with a central hexagon hole is considered an ideal molecular model for low‐dimensional boron‐based nanosystems. Owing to the electron deficiency of boron, chemical bonding in the B36 cluster is intriguing, complicated, and has remained elusive despite a couple of papers in the literature. Herein, a bonding analysis is given through canonical molecular orbitals (CMOs) and adaptive natural density partitioning (AdNDP), further aided by natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis and orbital composition calculations. The concerted computational data establish the idea of concentric double π aromaticity for the B36 cluster, with inner 6π and outer 18π electron counting, which both conform to the (4n+2) Hückel rule. The updated bonding picture differs from existing knowledge of the system. A refined bonding model is also proposed for coronene, of which the B36 cluster is an inorganic analogue. It is further shown that concentric double π aromaticity in the B36 cluster is retained and spatially fixed, irrespective of the migration of the hexagonal hole; the latter process changes the system energetically. The hexagonal hole is a destabilizing factor for σ/π CMOs. The central hexagon hole affects substantially fewer CMOs, thus making the bowl‐shaped C6v B36 cluster the global minimum.  相似文献

Theoretical studies on BCn (n=1–6) clusters are carried out using density functional theory, Møller–Plesset second‐order perturbation theory (MP2), coupled‐cluster calculations including up to triple excitations (CCSD(T)), and higher‐level approaches. All possible isomers depending on the positions of the boron atom are generated and the lowest‐energy isomers are determined for doublet and quartet electronic states. The three potential evolution paths of the clusters are determined as a function of their size. The energetic and electronic consequences for the increased size of structures differ significantly, which leads to representatives of the ground electronic state from different structural groups. The ab initio calculated thermal functions allow enhancements to the available atomization energies and improve the agreement between the calculated and experimental heat content.  相似文献
