Oxygen environment of rare-earth ions in phosphates with β-K2SO4 type structure

The use of europium as a local structure probe allowed the authors to determine the various phases appearing at room temperature in the NaPO₄Na₃Eu(PO₄)₂ and NaSrPO₄Na₃Eu(PO₄)₂ systems. The broadening of the europium emission lines in going from the calcium to the strontium phases illustrates the ease of movement of the [PO₄] groups.

Dissociation of internally excited UF6− ions in collision with argon atoms

Uranium hexafluoride negative ions (UF₆⁻) of controlled average internal and kinetic energy were collided with argon. A qualitative change was observed in the dependence of ionic fragmentation on internal excitation prior to collision, as the laboratory collision energy was increased above 150 eV.

N-Heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed (4+2) cycloaddition/decarboxylation of silyl dienol ethers with α,β-unsaturated acid fluorides

Herein we report the first all-carbon N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed (4 + 2) cycloaddition. The reaction proceeds with α,β-unsaturated acid fluorides and silyl dienol ethers and produces 1,3-cyclohexadienes with complete diastereocontrol (dr >20:1) while demonstrating a new type of reaction cascade exploiting α,β-unsaturated acyl azoliums.     

The thermal stabilities of luminescence and microstructures of Eu2+-doped KBaPO4 and NaSrPO4 with β-K2SO4 type structure

Eu(2+)-doped monophosphates NaSrPO(4) and KBaPO(4) with the β-K(2)SO(4) structure were synthesized using the conventional high temperature solid state reaction. The X-ray powder diffraction, photoluminescence excitation, and emission spectra and decay curves were measured. The phosphors can be efficiently excited by UV-visible light from 220 to 430 nm to realize emission in the visible range. The natures of the Eu(2+) emission, e.g., the chromaticity coordinates, the Stokes shifts, and the luminescence absolute quantum efficiencies, were reported. The luminescence quenching temperatures and the thermal activation energies for NaSrPO(4):Eu(2+) and KBaPO(4):Eu(2+) were obtained from the temperature dependent (10-435 K) luminescence intensities and decay curves. KBaPO(4):Eu(2+) presents only one emission center; however, Eu(2+) ions have a "disordered environment" in NaSrPO(4) lattices. The relationship between the luminescence thermal stabilities and the crystal structures was discussed. The crystallographic occupations of rare earth ions doped in these hosts were analyzed by the site-selective emission spectra and the excitation spectra of Eu(3+) ions in the (7)F(0)→(5)D(0) transitions using a pulsed, tunable, and narrow-band dye laser. In KBaPO(4), the Eu(3+) ions could be distributed in the host with a high "ordered state" in only one site in the lattices. However, the multiple site structure of Eu(3+) ions with highly disordered distributions in NaSrPO(4) lattices was suggested.     

The cation exchange resin-promoted coupling of alkynes with aldehydes: one-pot synthesis of α,β-unsaturated ketones

Alkynes undergo smooth coupling with aldehydes in the presence of Amberlyst-15^® at room temperature to produce the corresponding α,β-unsaturated ketones in high yields with E-geometry. The use of an inexpensive, readily available, and recyclable cation exchange resin makes this method quite simple and convenient.     

Cycloaromatization of α-oxoketene dithioacetals with 2-picolyllithium: A facile quinolizinium cation annelation

α-Oxoketene dithioacetals derived from various cyclic and acyclic ketones are shown to be useful intermediates for the synthesis of substituted and fused quinolizinium derivatives by reaction with 2-picolyllithium followed by cyclization in the presence of borontrifluoride etherate.     

Studies on Steroids. CLXXXIL. Determination of 6β-Hydroxycortisol in Urine by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Fluorescence Detection

Abstract

A new sensitive method for the determination of 6β-hydroxycortisol in urine by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection has been developed. 6β-Hydroxycortisol and its C-6 epimer (internal standard) were transformed quantitatively into the 21-(9-anthroyl) derivatives when treated with 9-anthroyl nitrile in the presence of triethylamine in acetonitrile. The resulting fluorescent esters were readily separated on a Cosmosil SSL column using ethyl acetate/hexane (2:1) as a mobile phase with a detection limit of 25 pg. The efficient clean-up was achieved by the combined use of Bond Elut and Clin Elut cartridges. The present method is applicable to the quantification of 6β-hydroxycortiol in human urine with satisfactory accuracy and precision.     

Structure-Activity Relationship of Insecticidal Steroids. V. 3β-Benzoyloxystigmastan-6-ones

The toxicity of steroid benzoates 4-10 for Colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say.) larvae was studied by a contact-intestinal method. The most active growth and development regulator for this insect is 3-benzoyloxy-5-hydroxy-⁷-6-ketosteroid 9a.     

Reduction of α,β-unsaturated nitrocompounds with tributyltin hydride.

Nitroalkenes upon treatment with tributyltin hydride in the absence of any catalyst provide a new method for the reduction of α,β -unsaturated nitrocompounds. Oxidative cleavage of the intermediate stannyl nitronates yielded carbonyl compounds in good yields.     

Polytungstates with the organic cation—I. Synthesis and chemical properties of sodium—tetramethylammonium decatungstate

Sodium-tetramethylammonium decatungstate has been obtained and investigated. On the basis of X-ray, thermogravimetric and IR spectroscopic measurements its chemical formula has been discussed.     

Inhibition of α/β-K6P2W18O62·10H2O on the Activity of Mushroom Tyrosinase and Its Antimicrobial Effects

Dawson-type phosphotungstic polyoxometalate α/β-K₆P₂W₁₈O₆₂·10H₂O(P₂W₁₈) was synthesized and its inhibitory effect on the mushroom tyrosinase was investigated. It could inhibit diphenolase activity of mushroom tyrosinase as an irreversible inhibitor. When the concentration of the enzyme reached 0.0176 mg/mL, the concentration of P₂W₁₈ leading to 50% activity lost(IC₅₀) was 0.05 mmol/L for monophenolase and 0.64 mmol/L for diphenolase. In addition, the antimicrobial activity of P₂W₁₈ was evaluated by zone of inhibition test. The results show that P₂W₁₈ possesses effective antimicrobial ability against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, yeast, especially Escherichia coli and yeast.     

Reaction of 4-Hydroxy-6-Methyl-3-β-arylpropionyl-2-Pyrones with Phenylhydrazine-Synthesis of a New Pyrazole Series

We report the synthesis of a new pyrazole series by the action of phenylhydrazine on 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-β-arylpropionyl-2-pyrones.     

Stannous triflate mediated glycosidations. A stereoselective synthesis of 2-amino 2-deoxy-β-D-glucopyranosides directly with the natural N-acetyl protecting group.

Various 2-acetamido 2-deoxy β-D-glucopyranosides have been prepared in good yield from the crystalline 2-acetamido 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl 2-deoxy α-D-glucopyranosyl chloride using stannous triflate as promoter.     

Simultaneous Determination of 6β-Hydroxycortisol and 6β-Hydroxycortisone in Human Urine by LC with UV Absorbance Detection

A liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of 6β-hydroxycortisol and 6β-hydroxycortisone using dexamethasone as internal standard in human urine is described. Separation was achieved on a reversed-phase C18 column by a gradient elution of acetonitrile and water containing 0.1% formic acid. 6β-Hydroxycortisol and 6β-hydroxycortisone were monitored by UV absorption at 244 nm. The lower limits of quantitation were 5 ng mL^?1 for both analytes. The intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations were less than 7.4%. Accuracy determined at three concentrations ranged between 92.16 and 109.77%. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of this method were demonstrated to be satisfactory for measuring both metabolites in human urine.
