We generalize the overlapping Schwarz domain decomposition method to problems of linear elasticity. The convergence rate independent of the mesh size, coarse-space size, Korn's constant and essential boundary conditions is proved here. Abstract convergence bounds developed here can be used for an analysis of the method applied to singular perturbations of other elliptic problems.  相似文献

We are concerned with the control question for linear age-structured population dynamics of incomplete initial data. More precisely, the initial population age distribution is supposed to be unknown. We here generalize the notion of no-regret control of Lions (1992) [10] to such singular population dynamics, following the method by Nakoulima, Omrane and Vélin (2000) [16]. We prove that the problem we are considering has a unique no-regret control that we characterize by a singular optimality system.  相似文献

A Gauss–Galerkin finite-difference method is proposed for the numerical solution of a class of linear, singular parabolic partial differential equations in two space dimensions. The method generalizes a Gauss–Galerkin method previously used for treating similar singular parabolic partial differential equations in one space dimension. Two test problems are studied and the numerical results are presented. These numerical results are encouraging and suggest that the proposed method is efficient in treating singular parabolic partial differential equations of the type considered here. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. If two spheres are nearly touching, and the flow around them is governed by the Stokes equations, the integral moments of the surface stress are singular functions of the gap width. The method used previously to calculate the singular terms in the zeroth moment (the force) and the antisymmetric first moment (the couple) is extended here to calculate the singular terms in the symmetric first moment (the stresslet) for motions perpendicular to the line of centres. It is shown that the reciprocal theorem requires unexpected relations between the newly found singularities and ones found previously. It is also shown that the singular terms can be used to improve the rate of convergence of series expressions for the stresslets. The series expressions then become valid for all separations of the spheres.  相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with finding a smooth singular value decomposition for a matrix which is smoothly dependent on a parameter. A previous approach to this problem was based on minimisation techniques, here, in contrast, a system of ordinary differential equations is derived for the decomposition. It is shown that the numerical solution of an initial value problem associated with these differential equations provides a feasible approach to the solution of this problem. Particular consideration is given to the situation which arises with equal modulus singular values which lead to indeterminacies in the evaluations needed for the numerical solution. Examples which illustrate the behaviour of the method are included.  相似文献

A method is presented that combines phase-plane techniques with the ideas of multiple scale and matched asymptotic expansions to explain the behavior of solutions to second-order, nonlinear, nonautonomous, singular boundary-value problems. It is shown that if one is willing to give up the detailed information provided by a procedure such as matched asymptotic expansions, then complete qualitative information can be obtained by the much simpler method given here. (“Complete” here means that the method provides a way of categorizing all possible solutions of such problems.) In addition, the similarities and differences between the present method and that of Melnikov, which has been useful in the study of dynamical systems, are noted.  相似文献

We present a new approach for removing the nonspecific noise from Drosophila segmentation genes. The algorithm used for filtering here is an enhanced version of singular spectrum analysis method, which decomposes a gene profile into the sum of a signal and noise. Because the main issue in extracting signal using singular spectrum analysis procedure lies in identifying the number of eigenvalues needed for signal reconstruction, this paper seeks to explore the applicability of the new proposed method for eigenvalues identification in four different gene expression profiles. Our findings indicate that when extracting signal from different genes, for optimised signal and noise separation, different number of eigenvalues need to be chosen for each gene. In order to numerically solve the interior and the exterior Dirichlet problems for the Laplacian operator, we present here a method which consists in inverting, on a finite element space, a non‐singular integral operator. This operator is a geometrical perturbation of the Steklov operator, and we precisely define the relation between the geometrical perturbation and the dimension of the finite element space, in order to obtain a stable and convergent scheme. Furthermore, this numerical scheme does not give rise to any singular integral. The scheme can also be considered as a special quadrature formula method for the standard piecewise linear Galerkin approximation of the weakly singular single layer potential, the special quadrature formula being defined by the introduction of a neighbouring curve. In the present paper, we prove stability and we give error estimates of our numerical scheme when the Laplace problem is set on a disk. Using a singular perturbation formulation of the linear time-invariant distributed parameter system, we develop a method to design finite-dimensional feedback compensators of any fixed order which will stabilize the infinite-dimensional distributed parameter system. A new algorithm coupling the boundary element technique with the characteristic expansion method is proposed for the computation of the singular stress field in the V-notched bi-material structure. After the stress asymptotic expansions are introduced into the linear elasticity equilibrium equations, the governing equations at the small sector dug out from the bi-material V-notch tip region are transformed into the ordinary differential eigen-equations. All the parameters in the asymptotic expansions except the combination coefficients can be achieved by solving the established eigen-equations with the interpolating matrix method. Furthermore, the conventional boundary element method is applied to modeling the remaining structure without the notch tip region. The combination coefficients in the asymptotic expansion forms can be computed by the discretized boundary integral equations. Thus, the singular stress field at the V-notch tip and the generalized stress intensity factors of the bi-material notch are successfully calculated. The accurate singular stress field obtained here is very useful in the evaluation of the fracture property and the fatigue life of the V-notched bi-material structure.  相似文献

A method for solving the inverse variational problem for differential equations admitting a Lie group is presented. The method is used for determining invariant Lagrangians and integration of second-order nonlinear differential equations admitting two-dimensional noncommutative Lie algebras. The method of integration suggested here is quite different from Lie's classical method of integration of second-order ordinary differential equations based on canonical forms of two-dimensional Lie algebras. The new method reveals existence and significance of one-parameter families of singular solutions to nonlinear equations of second order.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel method is proposed for solving nonlinear two-point boundary value problems (BVPs). This method is based on a combination of the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and the reproducing kernel method (RKM). A major advantage of this method over standard ADM is that it can avoid unnecessary computation in determining the unknown parameters. The proposed method can be applied to singular and nonsingular BVPs. Numerical results obtained using the scheme presented here show that the numerical scheme is very effective and convenient for solving nonlinear two-point boundary value problems.  相似文献

The successive approximations (or Neumann iterations) method for the solution of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind is applied here for the first time, after an appropriate modification, to a Cauchy-type singular integral equation of the first kind, the airfoil equation. The convergence of the method is investigated and three simple applications are made. The numerical implementation of the method (by using Gaussian quadrature rules) is also described in detail and numerical results verifying the accuracy and convergence of the method are displayed.  相似文献

A new method of defining hereditarily indecomposable Banach spaces is presented. This method provides a unified approach for constructing reflexive HI spaces and also HI spaces with no reflexive subspace. All the spaces presented here satisfy the property that the composition of any two strictly singular operators is a compact one. This yields the first known example of a Banach space with no reflexive subspace such that every operator has a non-trivial closed invariant subspace.  相似文献

The finite element treatment of boundary singularities in elliptic problems has demanded that special techniques be developed. Many of these use some form of singular element in the neighborhood of a singular point. For a homogenous second-order problem, defined in a domain with a polygonal boundary, we studied three cases with different singularity orders. Some results about the accuracy of the solution are presented. Numerical results have been obtained using Akin singular triangular elements with three and six nodes and quadrilateral elements having four and eight nodes. The behavior of the gradient in each of these elements is also analyzed. However, these elements are not completely satisfactory, so that an alternative technique using curved isoparametric elements is given here. The results obtained with the two methods are compared. Conclusions about numerical accuracy of each method, the order of integration and the simplicity of application are made.  相似文献
