The Brillouin backscattering and the filamentation instabilities in the presence of short-wavelength Langmuir turbulence are investigated for a homogeneous plasma. Analytical results for the growth rates and thresholds are obtained. It is shown that the threshold for Brillouin backscattering can be significantly increased because of the anomalous damping of ion-acoustic perturbations by Langmuir turbulence. For the filamentation instability an enhancement of the growth rate is obtained. The effect of short-wavelength ion wave turbulence is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of self-focusing of elliptical laser beam in collisionless plasma and its effect on stimulated Brillouin scattering. The pump beam interacts with a pre-excited ion-acoustic wave leading to Brillouin back-scattered process. The transverse intensity gradient of a pump beam generates a ponderomotive force, which modifies the background plasma density profile in a direction transverse to pump beam axis. This modification in density effects the incident laser beam, ion-acoustic wave and back-scattered beam. Non-linear differential equations for the beam width parameters of pump laser beam, ion-acoustic wave and back-scattered beam are set up and solved numerically. It is observed from the analysis that the focusing of waves enhances the SBS back-reflectivity.  相似文献

In the present paper, we have studied the influence of light absorption and temperature on self-focusing of finite Airy–Gaussian beams in plasma by considering the combined effects of relativistic and the ponderomotive regime. The nonlinear differential equations of dimensionless beam-width parameter are derived using the paraxial ray and Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin approximation, and they are solved numerically. The effect of absorption coefficient, plasma electron temperature, relative plasma density, intensity parameter and modulation parameter beam on the self-focusing of finite Airy–Gaussian beams in plasma is presented numerically and discussed.  相似文献

Stimulated Brillouin scattering is studied by numerically solving the Vlasov-Maxwell system. A cascade of stimulated Brillouin scattering can occur when a linearly polarized laser pulse propagates in a plasma. It is found that a stimulated Brillouin scattering cascade can reduce the scattering and increase the transmission of light, as well as introduce a bursting behaviour in the evolution of the laser-plasma interaction. The bursting time in the reflectivity is found to be less than half the ion acoustic period. The ion temperature can affect the stimulated Brillouin scattering cascade, which can repeat several ×at low ion temperatures and can be completely eliminated at high ion temperatures. For stimulated Brillouin scattering saturation, higher-harmonic generation and wave-wave interaction of the excited ion acoustic waves can restrict the amplitude of the latter. In addition, stimulated Brillouin scattering cascade can restrict the amplitude of the scattered light.  相似文献

We demonstrate a significant reduction of stimulated Brillouin scattering by polarization smoothing in large-scale high-temperature hohlraum plasma conditions where filamentation is measured to be negligible. The stimulated Brillouin scattering experimental threshold (defined as the intensity at which 5% of the incident light is backscattered) is measured to increase by a factor of 1.7+/-0.2 when polarization smoothing is applied. An analytical model relevant to inertial confinement fusion plasma conditions shows that the measured reduction in backscatter with polarization smoothing results from the random spatial variation in polarization of the laser beam, not from the reduction in beam contrast.  相似文献

Analytical study of the stimulated Brillouin scattering in a two-ion species plasma has been done using the hydrodynamical model. When strong nonlinear effect becomes significant i.e., when the quiver velocity of the electron becomes of the order of or greater than its thermal velocity, the damping becomes intensity dependent which modifies the results over the weak nonlinearity. In this regime the plasma behaves as a collisionless medium. The inclusion of the second species of the ions modifies the instability and decreases the growth rate. Its application in fusion plasma has been discussed.  相似文献

The generation of subnanosecond pulses by the combined effects of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and laser-induced breakdown has been investigated by obtaining simultaneous streak photographs of the spark, the backscattered and the transmitted pulses. The results demonstrate that the output from an excimer pumped dye laser can yield subnanosecond pulses with a duration of 20ps. The pulse shortening effect results from the nonlinear reflection properties of the Brillouin mirror and the strong absorption of visible radiation by the laser-breakdown plasma.  相似文献

The effect of stimulated Brillouin scattering in remote sensing of the ocean is investigated. It shows that by means of stimulated Brillouin scattering the signal-to-noise ratio of Brillouin lidar can be increased greatly by about 50 times, and its depth resolution can be improved to 1/8 of that with spontaneous Brillouin scattering. A theory of stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) in a plasma with ion-acoustic turbulence is developed using concepts of parametric instability under conditions when equations of two-temperature hydrodynamics can be used to describe ion-acoustic perturbations of the electron density. The temporal growth rate of the absolute instability and the spatial gain of the scattered wave are determined. The dependence of the threshold density of the radiation flux on the angle between the scattering wave vector and the direction of anisotropy of the turbulent noise is described. A new effect of STBS forbiddenness caused by anomalous turbulent heating of the ions is predicted for a plasma with a high level of turbulent noise.  相似文献

Brillouin scattering of photons off the density fluctuations in a fluid is potentially important for cosmology. We derive the Brillouin spectral distortion of blackbody radiation, and discuss the possible implications for the cosmic microwave background. The thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect is slightly modified by Brillouin distortion, but only at very long wavelengths.  相似文献

The pumping effect of stimulated Brillouin scattering on stimulated Raman scattering is investigated theoretically through the coupled wave equations of stimulated Brillouin scattering and stimulated Raman scattering. The numerical simulations are in agreement with the experimental results. They indicate that the backward stimulated Raman scattering is excited and amplified collectively by both pump laser and stimulated Brillouin scattering.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel Brillouin fiber laser (BFL) is proposed based on the hybrid fiber ring cavity composed of two types of fibers with different Brillouin shifts. Single mode fiber (SMF) and truewave fiber (TWF) are used in our experiments. Bi-directional dual-wavelength Brillouin lasing is achieved in the hybrid fiber ring cavity. The lasing lights along the two directions come from the Stokes waves generated in the two fibers, respectively, with different Brillouin shifts, however, they share the same fiber ring cavity. The BFL based on the hybrid fiber ring cavity provides a simple possible way to realize Brillouin fiber optical gyroscopes (BFOGs) without lock-in effect.  相似文献

采用平面波展开法,研究了二维光子晶体点群对称对不可约布里渊区的影响。在单柱体二维光子晶体单胞中增加一个柱体,设计成不同点群对称操作数的对称结构,计算了最低5条能带的本征频率值在第一布里渊区的分布图。结果表明:在计算二维光子晶体的能带结构时,如果光子晶体的点群对称操作数为n,所取的不可约布里渊区应为整个第一布里渊区的1/n。  相似文献

The Kerr effect induced by temperature variation in Brillouin fiber-optical gyroscope is investigated for the first time to our knowledge. It is found that the Kerr effect induced by Brillouin walk-off effect appears with the fluctuation of temperature, even the pump frequency is locked to the resonance of the resonator. The relation between the beat frequency bias and temperature variation is obtained.  相似文献

本文在预先已形成较大尺寸的稀薄等离子体的条件下,研究了亚毫微秒脉宽的高强度激光与等离子体相互作用中的受激布里渊散射问题。通过细致地测量后向散射激光的能量、光谱以及侧向散射激光的角分布,特别是它在空间取向上的各向异性,证实了受激布里渊后向散射与侧向散射不稳定性的存在。 关键词:  相似文献

Stimulated Brillouin Scattering has been investigated in a two-electron-temperature plasma and it is found that the growth rate can be controlled by injecting hot electrons in the plasma. For typical values of the magnetosphere plasmas the values of growth rates for different concentrations of hot to cold alectrons are calculated.  相似文献
