The implementation of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in communication access networks is dependent upon the availability of low cost optical sources. One possible alternative to lasers is to employ slices of a broadband optical source obtained via optical filters, which may be tuneable. This paper considers the behaviour of such a spectrally sliced optical transmission system as a function of the bandwidth of a realistic receiver electrical filter for the first time. The treatment includes distortion from optical fibre dispersion over several kilometres of fibre. The optimum ratio between the electrical bandwidth and the optical bit rate is found to be ~0.6 for a fifth-order Bessel filter  相似文献

A dynamically selective multiwavelength cross-connect for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) and optical switches is reported. Dynamically single- or multi-channel cross-connect functionality can be realized according to control of the optical switches and the FBGs' arrangement. Bit-error-rate performance with negligible power penalty is achieved in a 2.5Gbs-1x3 WDM channels over 100km conventional single-mode fibre (SMF) network demonstration. The characteristics of low channel crosstalk, uniform channel loss, high scalability and cascadability, and low cost of this device could provide more reconfiguration flexibility and network survivability for WDM networks.  相似文献

Direct Modulation Lasers (DMLs) have attracted increased attention during the past few years because of their intrinsic simplicity and cost-effectiveness, especially when applied to WDM metro and access networks. However, the output power waveform from a directly modulated laser is not an exact replica of the modulation current and its instantaneous optical frequency varies with time depending on the changes in optical power and the extinction ratio (ER) (an effect also known as frequency chirp). In this work, using an Optical Communication System Design Software, we have studied a directly modulated WDM 10 Gb/s system which transmission performance depends strongly on DML characteristics; simulation results have provided supplementary details about the effects of DML type (adiabatic or transient chirp dominated) as well as the effects of the optical output power. These details can provide useful design guidelines for constructing a WDM metro network.  相似文献

提出了一种基于光参量放大的高速实时光取样方案. 利用色散介质对光纤锁模激光器产生的窄脉冲源进行色散展宽,从而产生线性啁啾光信号. 将该信号和被取样信号同时送入高非线性光纤,利用高非线性光纤中的参量放大效应,将被取样信号的强度信息调制到线性啁啾光信号上. 在接收端利用不同中心波长的滤波器即可滤出不同时间点的取样信号,从而在光域同时完成了高速实时光取样和取样信号的串-并转换. 是实现高速实时取样技术的一种极具竞争力的实现方案. 实验中,实现了对10 Gb/s非归零码OOK信号的40 GS/s的高速实时取样系统,并转换为4路10 GS/s取样信号输出. 在接收端成功根据4路取样信号恢复出被取样信号波形,验证了该实时光取样方案的可行性. 关键词: 光信号处理 光取样 参量放大 高非线性光纤  相似文献

The expected traffic growth from new broadband services will require network capacities that can be beneficially provided by optical WDM transport networks. Optical packet techniques are essential for large networks to provide flexibility and granularity. A layered network architecture with a transparent optical layer and optical packet layers has been elaborated. Four switching concept options for large optical ATM switch fabrics in the public network and small access nodes are presented. The technology for the related key functions of space and wavelength switching was developed in the RACE ATMOS project and the feasibility of concepts and technologies was verified in four system demonstrators.  相似文献

This paper presents a multitone RoF system employing a central station and a remote antenna station to transmit modulated microwave or mm-wave signals. Two configurations of the system employing direct and external modulation are presented. First, at the central station, the modulating signal is directly and externally modulated at 1549.5 and 1550.5 nm, respectively, and the combined signal is then transmitted using wireless mode. In the second configuration, the combined signal is transmitted over 20 km to the remote antenna station using optical fibre connectivity. At the remote antenna station, both channel wavelengths are separated and amplified with an EDFA and SOA and are detected. The demonstration results show that there exists a small power penalty between the direct and the external modulation. But a large power penalty is reported depending upon the choice of optical amplifier viz. EDFA or SOA. Better performance is recorded in later case. The results also show that power is being distributed among the operating frequency and sidebands adjacent to it after transmission over a fibre link.  相似文献

为了满足在高精度波分复用/时分复用光采样系统中,采样光脉冲时间抖动低于100 fs的要求,开发了一套基于自相关法测量时间延迟的系统。通过光纤耦合器连接一路参考光路将光脉冲在时域上进行"复制",并使初始光脉冲和"复制"光脉冲相关,得到参考光路和被测光路的精确光程差,进而固定参考光路并接入不同被测光路从而得到多路被测光路之间相对延时。实验结果表明,利用自相关法测量脉冲时间间隔精度优于50 fs,满足波分复用/时分复用光采样系统研究需要。  相似文献

With the number of large capacity applications in core network increasing, the bandwidth requirement of optical connections in conventional Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks keeps enhancing, so that the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology is adopted to provide higher spectrum efficiency and flexibility in the future elastic optical networks. Meanwhile, survivability in the conventional WDM optical networks has been widely studied as an important issue to ensure the service continuity. However, survivability in OFDM-based elastic optical networks is more challenging than that in conventional WDM optical networks because each fiber usually carries even more connections. Therefore, it is necessary to study the new lightpath protection algorithm in elastic optical networks. Since p-cycle protection scheme has short restoration time and simple protection switching procedure, in this paper, we study the static Survivable p-Cycle Routing and Spectrum Allocation (SC-RSA) problem with providing an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation. Since RSA is a NP-hard problem, we propose a new heuristic algorithm called Elastic p-Cycle Protection (ECP) to tolerate the single-fiber link failure. For each demand, ECP scheme can compute highly-efficient p-cycles to provide protection for all of the on-cycle links and the straddling links. We also consider the load balancing and choose the proper working path for each demand. Simulation results show that the proposed ECP scheme achieves better performances than traditional single-line-rate survivable schemes.  相似文献

An all-fibre optical system for optical interrogation and detection of the vibrations of a silicon microresonator is reported. Metal-coated silicon microresonators are excited by intensity modulated laser light delivered through an optical fibre, while the vibration of the resonators is detected by an optical fibre interferometer. Measurements have shown that an average optical power of 10 μW is sufficient to maintain the flexural vibration of the resonator. When the resonator is used as a pressure sensor, its resonant frequency changes from 62 kHz to 130 kHz as the pressure varies from -0°6 bar to 1 bar (gauge). A silicon resonator with 700 nm aluminium coating functions as a temperature sensor, showing a frequency shift from 262 kHz to 251 kHz when the temperature changes from 25 °C to 80 °C.  相似文献

We review recent progress on all‐optical virtual‐private‐network (VPN) schemes in passive optical networks (PONs). PON is a promising candidate in future access areas to provide broadband services with low cost. With all‐optical virtual private network (VPN) function, PON can support efficient internetworking among end users with dedicated optical channels, thus enabling guaranteed bandwidth and enhanced security at the physical layer. Here, we discuss and compare existing schemes of all‐optical VPNs in time‐division‐multiplexed (TDM) PONs, and also recently proposed schemes for deployment in wavelength‐division‐multiplexed (WDM) PONs and two‐stage TDM/WDM PONs.  相似文献

We describe an architecture design and implementation of the optically transparent wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) asynchronous-transfer-mode (ATM) multicast (3M) switch for all optical high-speed networks. By using the WDM techniques, the wire complexity in both the switch fabric and the concentrator can be reduced from O(N2) to O(N). By using integrated photonic devices and highly parallel processing and pipeline control electronic circuits the switch is handling signals at the cell level (53 bytes) instead of at the bit level and can achieve very high speed and high throughput operation. Several key components, including a cell synchronizer, a photonic VCI over-writting unit, a wavelength converter, an optical concentrator, and a WDM memory, have also been proposed to realize this 3M switch. All of the photonic devices are highly integratable and are very suitable for building future large-scale, low-cost photonic ATM switches. A combination of both the ATM and WDM techniques will provide an ultimate version for optical networking with almost unlimited capacity.  相似文献

A novel decision gathering scheme for optical wireless sensor networks (OWSNs) is proposed and thoroughly analyzed in this article. The proposed technique relies on a tunable optical filter (TOF) that is mounted on each sensor node. Specifically, the received laser signal from a central unit at any particular node is modulated through the TOF, where it is either rejected or passed in accordance to the sensed result. The output of the TOF is passed to a corner cube reflector (CCR) that reflects the optical signal either back to the central unit or to another node in the OWSN. Three different setups are considered to implement the proposed scheme and the pros and cons of each setup are thoroughly discussed. It is revealed that the energy requirement of each sensor node is minimized as energy is only consumed in the process of sensing and adjusting the TOF. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed through a mathematical framework to derive the average decision error rate (DER) for all setups. Moreover, simulation results analyze the impact of key system parameters including atmospheric turbulence, transmit power, link distance, filter efficiency and detection threshold.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the problem of enhancing multiple-fault restorability in the path protected wavelength-routed all-optical WDM networks. The system architecture considered is circuit-switched with dynamic arrival of session requests. We have proposed a mechanism, which is used to combat multiple link failures. A survivable routing and wavelength assignment algorithm has been proposed which is very efficient for the networks having multiple failures. This algorithm deals with the optical networks with multiple faults and is effective for the varying load applied to nodes. This algorithm works well for the load applied to the nodes varying from low to high.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose and simulate 2 OCDM × 4 WDM transmission system for a millimeter-wave (60 GHz) over fiber system to be used in broadband wireless access networks (BWANs). The general system setup is devised and the necessary building blocks identified. Results gathered (for a 155 Mbit/s per user system) under worst case parameter specifications and settings suggest indicate that system performance is severely limited by optical multiuser interference (OMUI) penalties. Several methods to reduce the OMUI limitations are described. These methods should ensure that this transmission scheme possible wavelength-reuse option for future MMW BWANs.  相似文献
