In this paper we study the regularity of the free boundary in a general two-phase free boundary problem for the p-Laplace operator and we prove, in particular, that Lipschitz free boundaries are C1,γ-smooth for some γ∈(0,1). As part of our argument, and which is of independent interest, we establish a Hopf boundary type principle for non-negative p-harmonic functions vanishing on a portion of the boundary of a Lipschitz domain.  相似文献

We consider the Dirichlet problem for a class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations on a bounded domain Ω. We assume that Ω is symmetric about a hyperplane H and convex in the direction perpendicular to H. By a well-known result of Gidas, Ni and Nirenberg and its generalizations, all positive solutions are reflectionally symmetric about H and decreasing away from the hyperplane in the direction orthogonal to H. For nonnegative solutions, this result is not always true. We show that, nonetheless, the symmetry part of the result remains valid for nonnegative solutions: any nonnegative solution u is symmetric about H  . Moreover, we prove that if u?0u?0, then the nodal set of u divides the domain Ω into a finite number of reflectionally symmetric subdomains in which u has the usual Gidas–Ni–Nirenberg symmetry and monotonicity properties. It is well known that the biharmonic equation Δ2u=u|u|p−1 with p∈(1,∞) has positive solutions on Rn if and only if the growth of the nonlinearity is critical or supercritical. We close a gap in the existing literature by proving the existence and uniqueness, up to scaling and symmetry, of oscillatory radial solutions on Rn in the subcritical case. Analyzing the nodal properties of these solutions, we also obtain precise information about sign-changing large radial solutions and radial solutions of the Dirichlet problem on a ball.  相似文献

It is shown that if ff depends radially on its first argument and is nonincreasing in its second, boundary conditions force the unique solution to be radial. The main goal of this paper is to prove existence and comparison results for elliptic differential inclusions governed by a quasilinear elliptic operator and a multivalued function given by Clarke’s generalized gradient of some locally Lipschitz function. These kinds of problems have been treated in the past by various authors including the authors of this paper. However, in all the works we are aware of, additional assumptions on the structure of the elliptic operator and/or the generalized Clarke’s gradient are needed to get comparison results in terms of sub-supersolutions. Comparison principles were obtained recently, e.g., in the case where the elliptic operator is of potential type, or Clarke’s gradient is required to satisfy some one-sided growth condition, or the sub-supersolutions are supposed to satisfy additional properties. The novelty of this paper is that we are able to obtain a comparison principle without assuming any of the above restrictions. To the best of our knowledge this is the first mathematical treatment of the considered elliptic inclusion in its full generality. The obtained results of this paper complement the development of the sub-supersolution method for nonsmooth problems presented in a recent monograph by S. Carl, Vy K. Le and D. Motreanu.  相似文献
