We construct new supersymmetric solutions of D = 11 supergravity describing n orthogonally “overlapping” membranes and fivebranes for n = 2,…,8. Overlapping branes arise after separating intersecting branes in a direction transverse to all of the branes. The solutions, which generalize known intersecting brane solutions, preserve at least 2n of the supersymmetry. Each pairwise overlap involves a membrane overlapping a membrane in a 0-brane, a fivebrane overlapping a fivebrane in a 3-brane or a membrane overlapping a fivebrane in a string. After reducing n overlapping membranes to obtain n overlapping D-2-branes in D = 10, T-duality generates new overlapping D-brane solutions in type IIA and type IIB string theory. Uplifting certain type IIA solutions leads to the D = 11 solutions. Some of the new solutions reduce to dilaton black holes in D = 4. Additionally, we present a D = 10 solution that describes two D-5-branes overlapping in a string. T-duality then generates further D = 10 solutions and uplifting one of the type IIA solutions gives a new D = 11 solution describing two fivebranes overlapping in a string.  相似文献

It is shown that the recently classified “super p-brane” actions can be considered as effective actions “extended solitons” of supersymmetric field theories for which a Bogomol'nyi-type bound of the form (mass/unit p-volume) ⩾ topological charge is saturated. Such solutions can be found by “double-dimensional oxidation” of the instanton solutions of supersymmetric field theories in d = 1, 2, 4 spacetime dimensions. These provide a field-theoretic of all super p-branes except the d = 10 superstring and the d = 11 supermembrane.  相似文献

We analyse the most general ${\mathcal{N} = 2}$ supersymmetric solutions of D = 11 supergravity consisting of a warped product of four-dimensional anti-de-Sitter space with a seven-dimensional Riemannian manifold Y 7. We show that the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry can be phrased in terms of a local SU(2)-structure on Y 7. Solutions with non-zero M2-brane charge also admit a canonical contact structure, in terms of which many physical quantities can be expressed, including the free energy and the scaling dimensions of operators dual to supersymmetric wrapped M5-branes. We show that a special class of solutions is singled out by imposing an additional symmetry, for which the problem reduces to solving a second order non-linear ODE. As well as recovering a known class of solutions, that includes the IR fixed point of a mass deformation of the ABJM theory, we also find new solutions which are dual to cubic deformations. In particular, we find a new supersymmetric warped AdS4 × S 7 solution with non-trivial four-form flux.  相似文献

We explicitly construct massive (0,4) supersymmetric ADHM sigma models which have heterotic p-brane solitons as their conformal fixed points. These yield the familiar gauge 5-brane and a new 1-brane solution which preserve half and a quarter of the space-time supersymmetry, respectively. In four-dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric gauge theory, we obtain an exact metric on the moduli space of quantum vacua and analyze the spectra of BPS states in weak as well as in strong coupling regions. Identifying the hypermultiplet of the dyonic state as a string stretched between D3-brane probe and a 7-brane, we demonstrate that the two hypermultiplets, which become massless at two singularities in supersymmetric theory, correspond to open strings beginning on the D3-brane and ending on the respective 7-brane.  相似文献

Exact solvability of brane equations is studied, and a new U(1)×U(1)×?×U(1) invariant anzats for the solution of p-brane equations in D=(2p+1)-dimensional Minkowski space is proposed. The reduction of the p-brane Hamiltonian to the Hamiltonian of p-dimensional relativistic anharmonic oscillator with the monomial potential of the degree equal to 2p is revealed. For the case of degenerate p-torus with equal radii it is shown that the p-brane equations are integrable and their solutions are expressed in terms of elliptic (p=2) or hyperelliptic (p>2) functions. The solution describes contracting p-brane with the contraction time depending on p and the brane energy density. The toroidal brane elasticity is found to break down linear Hooke law as it takes place for the anharmonic elasticity of smectic liquid crystals.  相似文献

We develop superembedding approach to multiple D-particle (D0-brane) system. In flat target D=10D=10 type IIA superspace this produces the supersymmetric and Lorentz covariant version of the Matrix model equations. The equations following from our superembedding approach to multiple D0 in curved type IIA superspace shows the Myers ‘dielectric brane effect’, i.e. interaction with higher form gauge fields which do not interact with a single D0-brane.  相似文献

We construct an effective action describing an elementary M5-brane interacting with dynamical eleven-dimensional supergravity, which is free from gravitational anomalies. The current associated to the elementary brane is taken as a distribution valued δ-function on the support of the 5-brane itself. Crucial ingredients of the construction are the consistent inclusion of the dynamics of the chiral two-form on the 5-brane, and the use of an invariant Chern-kernel allowing to introduce a D=11 three-form potential which is well-defined on the worldvolume of the 5-brane.  相似文献

We investigate three-dimensional black hole solutions in the realm of pure and new massive gravity in 2+1 dimensions induced on a 2-brane embedded in a flat four-dimensional spacetime. There is no cosmological constant neither on the brane nor on the four-dimensional bulk. Only gravitational fields are turned on and we indeed find vacuum solutions as black holes in 2+1 dimensions even in the absence of any cosmological solution. There is a crossover scale that controls how far the three- or four-dimensional gravity manifests on the 2-brane. Our solutions also indicate that local BTZ and SdS3 solutions can flow to local four-dimensional Schwarzschild-like black holes, as one probes from small to large distances, which is clearly a higher dimensional manifestation on the 2-brane. This is similar to the DGP scenario where the effects of extra dimensions for large probed distances along the brane manifest.  相似文献

D0-brane gas picture of Schwarzschild black hole (SBH) is considered in the large N regime of Matrix theory. An entropy formula, which reproduces the thermodynamics of SBH in the large 0N limit for all dimensions (D≥6), is proposed. The equations of states for supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at low temperature are obtained. We also give a proof of the Newton gravitation law between two SBHs, whose masses are not equal.  相似文献

A systematic procedure in superspace to derive the O(α′) tree-level superstring corrections to the new D = 10, N = 1 (dual) supergravity Yang-Mills system is established. All the tree-level O(α′) corrections in the closed supersymmetry transformation laws are presented explicitly. These O(α′) corrections are regarded as a generalization of “matter” couplings in D = 10, N = 1 supergravity. The advantage of the superspace approach, based on superspace Bianchi identities, in comparison with the component formulation is elucidated. This new method is applicable to all anomaly-free D ⩽ 10 non-maximal supergravity theories, which utilize the Green-Schwarz mechanism. It also provides a way of introducing general higher-order powers of curvature tensors in D ⩽ 10 supergravity theories.  相似文献

A systematic and manifestly supersymmetric procedure for supersymmetrization of general (curvature)2-terms in N = 2 supergravity in six dimensions (D = 6) is presented in superspace. The general form of new terms for the supersymmetrization in supertranslation rules is given. As a by-product, the superspace structure of quaternionic Kähler manifolds is elucidated. Our method is the D = 6 application of our previously established formulation for the D = 10, N = 1 supergravity with the O(α′) superstring corrections.  相似文献

Utilizing the free Polyakov action of open p-brane, we obtain the solution of satisfying the boundary conditions to Euler–Lagrange equation of the open p-brane, the first and second quantization theories of the p-brane are given. Further, we obtain a series of new multiple commutative relations between the different normal modes of the p  -brane, obtain the new lowering and raising multiple operators, and give a series of the new fundamental multiple commutative relations of the lowering and raising multiple operators in the state space. And then we mainly take p=3p=3 case for example to investigate the spectrum of the open 3-brane at different levels. Interestingly, we find three types of tachyon states including scalar states, vector states and 2-rank tensor states, respectively. Besides, the graviton fields, Kalb–Ramond fields, dilaton and photon states, 3-rank tensor states as well, appear at the same level in the open 3-brane model. For the spectrum of the p  -brane (p>3)(p>3), one can do the whole analogous research on p=3p=3 except more complex.  相似文献

A possible way to study long-range interacting particles in finite–infinite periodic systems is applied to a modified Ising model with ferromagnetic interaction that decays as a 1/rα law. We verify, by Monte Carlo heat-bath simulations for cases in D dimensions, that the thermodynamic quantities scale in a way proposed by Tsallis, and that the mean field theory is exact in the last model for all 0⩽αD/2 suggested previously by other authors.  相似文献

It is argued that their quantum theories cannot be consistent in space-times of dimension exceeding the critical valueD=2+24/d (orD=2+8/d in the supersymmetric case). Specific-heat data on Ni(C5H5NO)6(ClO4)2 are presented for fields 0 ⩽ H ⩽ 60 kOe and temperatures 0.1 ⩽ T ⩽ 1.3 K. In this material the S = 1 ground triplet is split by a trigonal crystal field term into a singlet and a higher lying doublet, such that ordering cannot occur in zero field. The field-induced magnetic phase transitions are studied both experimentally and theoretically, using molecular field theory, high-temperature series expansions and spin-wave theory. We obtain the values J/k = -(0.20 ± 0.01)K and D/k = 6.6 ± 0.2 K for the antiferromagnetic (subcritical) exchange constant and for the crystal-field splitting parameter, respectively.  相似文献

Following the work of Sen, we consider the correspondence between extremal black holes and string states in the context of the entropy. We obtain and study properties of electrically charged black hole backgrounds of tree level heterotic string theory compactified on a p-dimensional torus, for D = (10 − p) = 4,…,9. We study in particular a one-parameter extremal class of these black holes, the members of which are shown to be supersymmetric. We find that the entropy of such an extremal black hole, when calculated at the stringy stretched horizon, scales in such a way that it can be identified with the entropy of the elementary string state with the corresponding quantum numbers.  相似文献
