We derive the bosonization rules for free fermions on a half-line with physically sensible boundary conditions for Luttinger fermions. We use path-integral methods to calculate the bosonized fermionic currents on the half-line and derive their commutation relations for a system with a boundary. We compute the fermion determinant of the fermionic fluctuations for a system with a boundary using Forman's approach. We find that the degrees of freedom induced at the boundary do not to modify the commutation relations of the bulk. We give an explicit derivation of the bosonization rules for the fermion operators for a system with boundaries. We derive a set of bosonization rules for the Fermi operators which include the explicit effect of the boundaries and of boundary degrees of freedom. As a byproduct, we calculate the one-particle Green function and determine the effects of the boundaries on its analytic structure.  相似文献

We derive the phase space particle density operator in the ‘droplet’ picture of bosonization in terms of the boundary operator. We demonstrate that it satisfies the correct algebra and acts on the proper Hilbert space describing the underlying fermion system, and therefore it can be used to bosonize any Hamiltonian or related operator. As a demonstration we show that it reproduces the correct excitation energies for a system of free fermions with arbitrary dispersion relations.  相似文献

We use the Yukawa model of interacting photons and fermions to study the dynamics of the creation of a virtual photon cloud around a spatially localized bare fermion. The temporal evolution of the photons’ spatial probability density is characterized by three stages, the shape-invariant growth, the spreading, and finally the formation of a steady state. Exactly half of the total number of created photons escape irreversibly while the other half remains in the vicinity of the fermion. For the special case of an infinitely narrow fermion distribution the product of the fermionic field operators in the interaction Hamiltonian can be replaced by a simple classical mechanical density, thus eliminating all fermionic degrees of freedom. We examine the effects of quantum mechanics on the total number of photons created by a spatially extended fermion.  相似文献

We present a fermion model that is, as we suggest, a natural 2D analogue of the Luttinger model. We derive this model as a partial continuum limit of a 2D spinless lattice fermion system with local interactions and away from half filling. In this derivation, we use certain approximations that we motivate by physical arguments. We also present mathematical results that allow an exact treatment of parts of the degrees of freedom of this model by bosonization, and we propose to treat the remaining degrees of freedom by mean field theory.  相似文献

We review the formalism of free fermions used for construction of tau-functions of classical integrable hierarchies and give a detailed derivation of group-like properties of the normally ordered exponents, transformations between different normal orderings, the bilinear relations, the generalized Wick theorem and the bosonization rules. We also consider various examples of tau-functions and give their fermionic realization.  相似文献

We present bosonic actions which are equivalent to various chiral fermion theories. For the case of one chiral fermion coupled to an abelian gauge field, we present two bosonized actions, one corresponding to regularizing in the vector conserving scheme and the other in the left-right scheme. We then propose an action for the non-abelian bosonization of Weyl fermions which is a WZW action coupled to a fixed curved background. The chiral WZW action is then coupled to non-abelian gauge fields. We derive the anomalies of the axial current (in the vector conserving scheme) and the left-right currents (in the left-right regularization scheme), both for the abelian and non-abelian bosonized actions. The expressions for the anomalies are identical to those derived in the corresponding fermionic theories.  相似文献

A boson-fermion hybrid representation is presented. In this framework, a fermion system is described concurrently by the bosonic and the fermionic degrees of freedom. A fermion pair in this representation can be treated as a boson without violating the Pauli principle. Furthermore the “bosonic interactions” are shown to originate from the exchange processes of the fermions and can be calculated from the original fermion interactions. Both the formulation of the BFH representations for the even and odd nuclear systems are given. We find that the basic equation of the nuclear field theory (NFT) is just the usual Schrödinger equation in such a representation with the empirical NFT diagrammatic rules emerging naturally. This theory was numerically checked in the case of four nucleons moving in a single-j shell and the exactness of the theory was established.  相似文献

We develop a general theory of a boson decomposition for both local and non-local interactions in lattice fermion models which allows us to describe fermionic degrees of freedom and collective charge and spin excitations on equal footing. An efficient perturbation theory in the interaction of the fermionic and the bosonic degrees of freedom is constructed in the so-called dual variables in the path-integral formalism. This theory takes into account all local correlations of fermions and collective bosonic modes and interpolates between itinerant and localized regimes of electrons in solids. The zero-order approximation of this theory corresponds to an extended dynamical mean-field theory (EDMFT), a regular way to calculate nonlocal corrections to EDMFT is provided. It is shown that dual ladder summation gives a conserving approximation beyond EDMFT. The method is especially suitable for consideration of collective magnetic and charge excitations and allows to calculate their renormalization with respect to “bare” RPA-like characteristics. General expression for the plasmonic dispersion in correlated media is obtained. As an illustration it is shown that effective superexchange interactions in the half-filled Hubbard model can be derived within the dual-ladder approximation.  相似文献

Tomographic probability representation is introduced for fermion fields. The states of the fermions are mapped onto the probability distribution of discrete random variables (spin projections). The operators acting on the fermion states are described by fermionic tomographic symbols. The product of the operators acting on the fermion states is mapped onto the star-product of the fermionic symbols. The kernel of the star-product is obtained. The antisymmetry of the fermion states is formulated as a specific symmetry property of the tomographic joint probability distribution associated with the states.  相似文献

We construct nonlinear maps which realize the fermionization of bosons and the bosonization of fermions with the view of obtaining states coding naturally integers in standard or in binary basis. Specifically, with reference to spin systems, we derive raising and lowering bosonic operators in terms of standard fermionic operators and vice versa. The crucial role of multiboson operators in the whole construction is emphasized. Dedicated to Giuseppe Castagnoli for his 65th birthday.  相似文献

We analyze the effect of local spin operators in the Kitaev model on the honeycomb lattice. We show, in perturbation around the isolated-dimer limit, that they create Abelian anyons together with fermionic excitations which are likely to play a role in experiments. We derive the explicit form of the operators creating and moving Abelian anyons without creating fermions and show that it involves multispin operations. Finally, the important experimental constraints stemming from our results are discussed.  相似文献

The structure of the Galilean and translationally invariant operator algebra for finite systems of fermions is investigated. After performing the decomposition of the Fock space into Hilbert spaces for the center-of-mass motion and the intrinsic motion, “intrinsic” field operators are defined and their commutation relations established. These relations deviate in a certain particle number-dependent way from the usual fermion relations. It is shown that the operators corresponding to the intrinsic (e.g. nuclear) observables can be represented in the familiar way, the usual field operators being replaced by the intrinsic ones. In this theory the normal shell model calculations appear as the approximation performed by treating matrix elements of nuclear observables as if the intrinsic field operators were satisfying the exact Fermi commutation relations.  相似文献

Quasibosons
The similarity of the commutation relations for bosons and quasibosons (fermion pairs) suggests the possibility that all integral spin particles presently considered to be bosons could be quasibosons. The boson commutation relations for integral spin particles could be just an approximation to the quasiboson commutation relations that contain an extra term. Although the commutation relations for quasibosons are slightly more complex, it is a simpler picture of matter in that only fermions and composite particles formed of fermions exist. Mesons are usually referred to as bosons, but they must be quasibosons since their internal structure is fermion (quark) pairs. The photon is usually considered to be an elementary boson, but as shown here, existing experiments do not rule out the possibility that it is also a quasiboson. We consider how the quasiboson, composite nature of such a photon might manifest itself.  相似文献

The transformation of interacting fermions into free bosons known e.g. from the solution of the Luttinger model is reconsidered in a condensed version which combines all fermionic degrees of freedom in a single boson field. This simplifies calculations as compared to the usual separate treatment of the charge degrees of freedom. The representation of the fermions is exact. The Thirring-Schwinger model is described and solved with special emphasis on boundary effects. Implications for massive fermions are briefly mentioned.  相似文献

We consider the perturbative computation of the N-point function of chiral densities of massive free fermions at finite temperature within the thermofield dynamics approach. The infinite series in the mass parameter for the N-point functions are computed in the fermionic formulation and compared with the corresponding perturbative series in the interaction parameter in the bosonized thermofield formulation. Thereby we establish in thermofield dynamics the formal equivalence of the massive free fermion theory with the sine-Gordon thermofield model for a particular value of the sine-Gordon parameter. We extend the thermofield bosonization to include the massive Thirring model.  相似文献

Starting from Wigner’s symmetry representation theorem, we give a general account of discrete symmetries (parity P, charge conjugation C, time-reversal T), focusing on fermions in Quantum Field Theory. We provide the rules of transformation of Weyl spinors, both at the classical level (grassmanian wave functions) and quantum level (operators). Making use of Wightman’s definition of invariance, we outline ambiguities linked to the notion of classical fermionic Lagrangian. We then present the general constraints cast by these transformations and their products on the propagator of the simplest among coupled fermionic system, the one made with one fermion and its antifermion. Last, we put in correspondence the propagation of C eigenstates (Majorana fermions) and the criteria cast on their propagator by C and CP invariance.  相似文献

The representation of the canonical commutation relations involved in the construction of boson operators from fermion operators according to the recipe of the neutrino theory of light is studied. Starting from a cyclic Fock-representation for the massless fermions the boson operators are reduced by the spectral projectors of two charge-operators and form an infinite direct sum of cyclic Fock-representations. Kronig's identity expressing the fermion kinetic energy in terms of the boson kinetic energy and the squares of the charge operators is verified as an identity for strictly selfadjoint operators. It provides the key to the solubility ofLuttinger's model. A simple sufficient condition is given for the unitary equivalence of the representations linked by the canonical transformation which diagonalizes the total Hamiltonian.Work supported by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Structural response properties of fermionic fields are investigated. In the presence of fermions the key technical concept becomes response combination, or R-normal product, of field operators. It generalises the notion of time-normal operator product to response problems. Time-normal products are a special case of R-normal products without inputs; this paper thus also generalises the concept of time-normal ordering to fermions. Explicit causality of R-normal products of arbitrary (bosonic and/or fermionic) field operators is proven, and explicit relations expressing them by conventional Green’s functions of quantum field theory are derived.  相似文献
