The functional aluminum alkoxide, Et2Al? O? (CH2)2? O-C(O)? C(CH3)?CH2, is a very effective initiator for the (D ,L )-lactide (LA) polymerization in toluene at 707deg;C. The coordination-insertion type of polymerization is living and exclusively yields linear P (D ,L )-lactide macromonomers of a predictable molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution. IR and 1H-NMR studies show that the methacryloyl group of the initiator is selectively and quantitatively attached to one chain end, whereas the second extremity is systematically a hydroxyl function resulting from the hydrolysis of the living growing site. α,ω-Dimethacryloyl-P(D ,L )-lactides, i.e., α,ω-macromonomers, have also been successfully synthesized by the additional control of the termination step, i.e., by reaction of Al alkoxide end groups with methacryloyl chloride. α-Macromonomer and α,ω-macromonomer P(D ,L )-lactides are easily free-radical copolymerized with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), resulting in a hydrophilic poly (HEMA) backbone grafted with hydrophobic P(D ,L )-lactide subchains and a biodegradable amphiphilic network, respectively. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Functional aluminum alkoxides, such as Et3–pAl(O? CH2? X)p, where p = 1,3 and X = a functional group, are very effective initiators for the (D, L)-lactide polymerization in toluene at 70°C. The coordination-insertion type of polymerization is living. Linear polyesters of a predictable molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution are obtained within the period of time required for the total monomer conversion. The functional group (X) associated with the active alkoxy group of the initiator is selectively and quantitatively attached to one chain end, whereas the second end group is systematically a hydroxyl function resulting from the hydrolysis of the living growing site. Asymmetric telechelic polylactides are thus obtained in a perfectly controlled way. A kinetic study has shown that the polymerization is first order in both the monomer and initiator. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(ϵ-caprolactone)–poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(ϵ-caprolactone) triblock copolymers (PECL) covering a wide range of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) lengths were synthesized with alkali metal alkoxide derivatives of poly(ethylene glycol). The effects of various factors, such as amount of the initiator, reaction time and temperature, polarity of solvent, length of PEG segment, and counterion on the polymerization were investigated. The copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR, IR, GPC, and DSC. It was found that THF system is superior to toluene system. The conversion of the monomer increased with increase of the initiator concentration. High molecular weight of the copolymer and high conversion of the monomer was obtained at below 30°C within 5 min. The polymerization process was studied by GPC and the coexistence of propagation and transesterification reaction was found, which leaded to relatively broad molecular weight distribution of the copolymers. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

AB block copolymers of ϵ-caprolactone and (L )-lactide could be prepared by ring-opening polymerization in the melt at 110°C using stannous octoate as a catalyst and ethanol as an initiator provided ϵ-caprolactone was polymerized first. Ethanol initiated the polymerization of ϵ-caprolactone producing a polymer with ϵ-caprolactone derived hydroxyl end groups which after addition of L -lactide in the second step of the polymerization initiated the ring-opening copolymerization of L -lactide. The number-average molecular weights of the poly(ϵ-caprolactone) blocks varied from 1.5 to 5.2 × 103, while those of the poly(L -lactide) blocks ranged from 17.4 to 49.7 × 103. The polydispersities of the block copolymers varied from 1.16 to 1.27. The number-average molecular weights of the polymers were controlled by the monomer/hydroxyl group ratio, and were independent on the monomer/stannous octoate ratio within the range of experimental conditions studied. When L -lactide was polymerized first, followed by copolymerization of ϵ-caprolactone, random copolymers were obtained. The formation of random copolymers was attributed to the occurrence of transesterification reactions. These side reactions were caused by the ϵ-caprolactone derived hydroxyl end groups generated during the copolymerization of ϵ-caprolactone with pre-polymers of L -lactide. The polymerization proceeds through an ester alcoholysis reaction mechanism, in which the stannous octoate activated ester groups of the monomers react with hydroxyl groups. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A new polymer-ceramic nanocomposite has been synthesized consisting of well-dispersed, two-dimensional layers of an organically modified mica-type silicate (MTS) within a degradable poly(ε-caprolactone) matrix. A protonated amino acid derivative of MTS was used to promote delamination/dispersion of the host layers and initiate ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone monomer, resulting in poly(ε-caprolactone) chains that are ionically bound to the silicate layers. The polymer chains can be released from the silicate surface by a reverse ion-exchange reaction and were shown to be spectroscopically similar to pure poly(ε-caprolactone). Thick films of the polymer nanocomposite exhibit a significant reduction in water vapor permeability that shows a linear dependence on silicate content. The permeability of nanocomposite containing as low as 4.8% silicate by volume was reduced by nearly an order of magnitude compared to pure poly(ε-caprolactone). © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Libraries of 3‐aminopropyl‐terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (APT–PDMS) and poly(?‐caprolactone)–poly(dimethylsiloxane)–poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL—PDMS–PCL) triblock copolymers were synthesized. Preliminary experiments were carried out to select an appropriate catalyst and route for the poly(dimethylsiloxane) synthesis, and trial experiments were conducted to verify the successful synthesis of the intended polymer compositions. Then, a series of APT–PDMS oligomers were synthesized with an automated combinatorial high‐throughput synthesis system to cover a molecular weight range of 2500–50,000 g/mol. Trial PCL—PDMS–PCL triblock copolymers were synthesized with the automated reactor system and characterized in detail with rapid gel permeation chromatography, high‐throughput Fourier transform infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and differential scanning calorimetry. Finally, two library synthesis experiments were carried out in which the lengths of both the poly(dimethylsiloxane) and poly(?‐caprolactone) blocks in the PCL—PDMS–PCL triblock copolymers were varied. The results obtained from these experiments demonstrated that it was possible to synthesize libraries of well‐defined APT–PDMS oligomers and PCL—PDMS–PCL triblock copolymers with an automated high‐throughput system. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block polymerization of glycolide (GA) and ϵ-caprolactone (ϵ-CL) has been initiated with aluminum alkoxides, such as Al(OiPr)3 and Et2AlOCH2X (where X = -CH2-Br and -CH2O-C(O)-C(Me)=CH2), in THF at 40°C. Structure and composition of block copolyesters have been characterized with respect to the molecular weight by NMR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. Copolymerization is typically living, so that block copolyesters have been synthesized with predictable molecular weight and composition. The inherent insolubility of polyglycolide block is responsible for the heterogeneity of the polymerization medium and formation of stable, non-aqueous colloidal dispersions. This effect is especially pronounced at high GA/ϵ-CL molar ratios. Colloidal dispersions have been analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photocorrelation spectroscopy (PCS).  相似文献

Acrylic acid was grafted onto poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) films by using electron beam (EB) preirradiation technique. The effect of reaction time, monomer concentration, radiation dose, time between irradiation and grafting, radiation atmosphere, and polymer crystallinity on the extent of grafting were studied. Silver and tin ions were attached to the grafted chains in order to study the grafting process. The irradiation in air was initially more rapid, but the final extent of grafting was the same when irradiated in nitrogen atmosphere. Maximum grafting extents exceeding 400% could be obtained. The optimal grafting was obtained at an acrylic acid to water ratio of 30 : 70. The grafting process could be initiated at a dose as low as 12 kGy. The grafting process proved to start at the surface and was extended into the bulk with time. The ability to form crystals was reduced as the grafting extent increased. The water uptake of the poly(ε-caprolactone)-graft-poly(acrylic acid) was increasing with increasing grafting extent, but reached a maximum of ca 100% for all grafting extents above 85%. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new polymer with pendant hydroxyl groups, namely, poly(N-phenyl-2-hydroxytrime-thylene amine) (PHA), was synthesized by a direct condensation polymerization of aniline and epichlorohydrin in an alkaline medium. The new polymer is amorphous with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 70°C. Blends of PHA with poly(ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL), as well as with two water-soluble polyethers, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(vinyl methyl ether) (PVME), were prepared by casting from a common solvent. It was found that all the three blends were miscible and showed a single, composition dependent glass transition temperature (Tg). FTIR studies revealed that PHA can form hydrogen bonds with PCL, PEO, and PVME, which are driving forces for the miscibility of the blends. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone has been carried out by using rare earth coordination catalysts for the first time. The rare earth compounds, RE(acac)3.3H2O, Nd(P204)3, Nd(P507)3, Nd(naph)3, Nd(BA)3.2H2O, etc. (where RE = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Lu, Y; acac = acetylacetone; BA = benzoylacetone), combined with trialkyl aluminum, greatly increased the degree of conversion and the molecular weight of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL). The influence of reaction conditions on the polymerization of ε-caprolactone catalyzed by the Nd (acac)3.3H2O-AlEt3 system has been examined in detail. The kinetics indicates that the polymerization rate has the first-order in monomer and a half-order in catalyst. The overall activation energy of the ring-opening polymerization amounts to 59.4 kJ/mol. By IR and UV-Vis spectra, 1H- and 13C-NMR data, it is assumed that the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone catalyzed by the Nd(acac)3.3H2O-AlEt3 system proceeds via complexation of monomer to catalyst, acyl-oxygen cleavage insertion propagation mechanism. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(D ,L -lactide)–poly(ϵ-caprolactone)–poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(ϵ-caprolactone)–poly(D ,L -lactide) block copolymer (PLA–PCL–PEG–PCL–PLA) was prepared by copolymerization of ϵ-caprolactone (ϵ-CL) and D ,L -lactide (D ,L -LA) initiated by potassium poly(ethylene glycol)ate in THF at 25°C. The copolymers with different composition were synthesized by adjusting the mole ratio of reaction mixture. The resulted copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR, DSC, and GPC. Efforts to prepare copolymers with the corresponding structure of PCL–PLA–PEG–PLA–PCL and D ,L -lactide/ϵ-caprolactone random copolymers were not successful. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of biodegradable poly(D,L-lactide)-poly(ethylene glycol) multiblock poly(ether-ester-urethane)s with various lactide-to-poly(ethylene glycol) (LA/PEG) mole ratios has been successfully synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) followed by chain extension reaction through formation of urethane linkage. Resulting FT-IR spectra indicate complete polymerization of lactide monomers, while NMR analysis quantitatively marks the chain length of polymer blocks. The molecular weight and dispersion index of copolymers were investigated by GPC analysis. DSC thermogram and XRD diffractogram of the prepared copolymers were studied as well for revealing the thermal and crystallinity behavior of the copolymer as LA/PEG mole ratios varied.  相似文献

The miscibility of poly (?-caprolactone) (PCL) with poly (styrene-co-acrylic acid) (SAA) and of poly (styrene-co-acrylonitrile) (SAN) with SAA was examined as a function of the comonomer composition in the copolymers. For PCL/SAA blends it was found that PCL is miscible with SAA within a specific range of copolymer compositions. Segmental interaction energy densities were evaluated by analysis of the equilibrium melting point depression and application of a binary interaction model. The results suggest that the intramolecular repulsion in SAA copolymer plays an important role in inducing the miscibility. Additionally, the critical AA content in SAA for the blend to be homogeneous was predicted by correlating the segmental interaction energy densities with the binary interaction model. For SAN/SAA blends, it was also found that SAA is miscible with SAN within a specific range of copolymer compositions. From the binary interaction model, segmental interaction energy denisties between different monomer units were estimated from the miscibility map and were found to be positive for all pairs, indicating that the miscibility of the blends is due to the strong repulsion in the SAA copolymers.  相似文献

Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) macromonomers capped by a polymerizable norbornene end-group have been synthesized and (co)polymerized by ring-opening metathesis with formation of graft copolymers and polymacromonomers. α-Norbornenyl PCL macromonomers have been synthesized by ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (εCL) initiated by 2-diethylaluminoxymethyl-5-norbornene. Copolymerization of these PCL macromonomers with norbornene and polymerizable derivatives has been catalyzed by the [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 PCy3/(trimethylsilyl)diazomethane complex yielding a series of poly(norbornene)-graft-poly(ε-caprolactone) copolymers. These new graft copolymers have been characterized by a set of analytical methods, i.e., SEC, 1H-NMR, FTIR, DSC, and TGA. Furthermore, PCL macromonomers have been polymerized into high molecular weight comb chains of narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.10) within high yields (90%). © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The temperature dependencies of dynamic mechanical properties have been determined with a torsional pendulum for copolymers of ?-caprolactone and γ-(tert-butyl)-?-caprolactone over the entire composition range. Copolymers containing at least 25 mol % (33 wt %) of γ-(tert-butyl)-?-caprolactone units are amorphous in nature. The experimentally obtained glass transition temperatures of the copolymers and poly(γ-(tert-butyl)-?-caprolactone) were used to calculate the glass transition temperature of amorphous of poly(?-caprolactone) according to the Fox relation. This value of ?70°C is in excellent agreement with values obtained from similar calculations based on compatible blends of poly(?-caprolactone) with other homopolymers.  相似文献

Well-defined 3-miktoarm star copolymer 3μ-HBPE(PCL)2 (HBPE: hyperbranched polyethylene, PCL: poly[ε-caprolactone]) was synthesized by combining chain walking polymerization (CWP), ring-opening polymerization (ROP), and “click” chemistry. The synthetic methodology includes the following steps: (a) synthesis of in-chain ethynyl-functionalized PCL, (PCL)2-C ≡ CH by ROP of ε-caprolactone (CL) with ethylene-functionalized solketal (3-[prop-2-yn-1-yloxy] propane-1,2-diol) as difunctional initiator and phosphazene superbase t-BuP2 as catalyst; (b) synthesis of azido-functionalized hyperbranched PE (HBPE-N3) by CWP of ethylene with α-diimine-Pd(II) catalyst, followed by quenching with excess 4-vinylbenzyl chloride and transformation of chloro to azide group with sodium azide; and (c) “clicking” HBPE-N3 and (PCL)2-C ≡ CH using copper(I)-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition. 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry were used to determine the molecular characteristics and thermal properties of the polymers. Self-assembly behavior of 3μ-HBPE (PCL)2 in petroleum ether, a selective solvent for HBPE, was investigated by dynamic light scattering, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The in-chain alkyne-functionalized poly(ε-caprolactone) is a valuable precursor for PCL-based complex macromolecular architectures.  相似文献

Binary blends of polycaprolactone (PCL) with poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and nitrocellulose (NC) have been shown to be compatible over a wide range of composition. In this study, segmental orientation was determined by dynamic, differential infrared dichroism for each component in the PVC and NC blends with PCL. In compatible amorphous blends, PCL orientation behavior was essentially the same as for the orientation of NC or the isotactic segments of PVC. Syndiotactic PVC segments showed higher orientations, reflecting the greater intrachain stiffness of the microcrystalline PVC phase. PCL segments in the blends where the PCL component was semicrystalline were found to exhibit orientation characteristics which were quite different from the orientation of the nitrocellulose and PVC components of the blends. By assuming that the NC orientation represented the response of the amorphous PCL, the orientation of the crystalline PCL was determined for a NC blend using a simple model of additive dichroism response. In PVC blends, a similar analysis using the amorphous-component response of PVC was made. In both cases the results from the dichroism model showed fair agreement with the PCL unit cell C-axis orientation from independent dichroism calculations.  相似文献

A novel segmented polyurethane/clay (PU/clay) nanocomposite based on poly(caprolactone), diphenylmethane diisocyanate, butanediol, and poly(caprolactone)/clay prepolymer was synthesized as evidenced by FTIR and X-ray diffraction studies. Poly(caprolactone)/clay (PCL/clay) prepolymer was first synthesized in a nanocomposite form as confirmed by X-ray diffraction. X-ray diffraction study showed that PU/clay contained crystalline structure due to the presence of PCL/clay. In mechanical properties, about 1.4% PCL/clay in PU/clay resulted in a large increase in the elongation of PU/clay. However, when the amount of PCL/clay was 4.2%, the elongation of PU/clay was reduced drastically. This behavior indicated that PU/clay can be transformed from an elastomer to a thermoplastic material as the amount of PCL/clay in PU/clay increased. Additionally, the lap shear stress of PU/clay was at least three times that of neat PU as a result of the PCL/clay component. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PLGA)/polycaprolactone (PCL) ABA block copolymers were synthesized by bulk copolymerization of glycolide and lactide with PCL diols prepolymer using stannous octoate as catalyst. The resulting copolymers were characterized by various analytical techniques including gel permeation chromatography, IR, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, differential scanning calorimeter and X‐ray diffractometry. Mechanical properties and hydrophilicity of the copolymers were also studied. Data showed that the copolymers presented a part‐regular structure, containing both PCL crystalline and amorphous PLGA domains. The properties of these copolymers can be adjusted by changing the compositions of the copolymers. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
