A series of new poly(arylene ether phenyl-s-triazine)s was prepared by the nucleophilic aromatic substitution polymerization of the potassium salt of bisphenols with 2,4-bis (halophenyl)-6-phenyl-s-triazine in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone at elevated temperature. The polymers with inherent viscosities exceeding 0.5 were obtained after polymerization for 1 h using 2,4-bis(fluorophenyl)-6-phenyl-s-triazine as a monomer. The glass transition temperatures of the resulting polymers ranged from 200 to 260°C depending on the bisphenol used in the polymer synthesis. The poly(arylene ether phenyl-s-triazine)s demonstrated excellent thermal stabilities in excess of 490°C (5% weight loss in air). The isothermal TGA measurements (400°C under air or nitrogen atmosphere) revealed that the 4,4'-biphenol- and hydroquinone-based poly(arylene ether phenyl-s-triazine)s belong to the most superior class of heat resistant polymers, such as polyimide Kapton?. The mechanical properties of these polymers are also described. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(arylene ether ketone)s containing imide units were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic displacement reaction of the potassium salts of bisphenols with bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)phthalimides in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone at elevated temperature. The polymers having inherent viscosities of 0.34–0.77 dL/g were obtained in 2 h. The polymers exhibited glass transition temperatures ranging from 216 to 268°C and decomposition temperatures (5% weight loss under air atmosphere) ranging from 450–570°C mainly depending on the bisphenols used in the polymer synthesis. The isothermal TGA measurements (400°C under air or nitrogen atmosphere) revealed that the 4,4'-biphenol- and hydroquinone-based poly(arylene ether ketone imide)s belong to a superior class of heat resistant polymers. The mechanical properties of these polymers are also described. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Crystalline poly(arylene ether nitrile) could be prepared by the polycondensation of 2,6-dihalobenzonitrile with resorcinol at 200°C in N-methylpyrrolidone in the presence of sodium carbonate. A reaction temperature of at least 200°C was necessary to attain high molecular weight polymer. Spectral data indicated that the polymer had the structure of a poly(meta-phenylene ether) with pendent nitrile groups on every other phenylene unit. Despite this structure, the crystallinity and the crystallization rate of the polymer were greater than those of the corresponding polymer with a para-linked structure. The glass transition temperature and the melting temperature of the polymer were almost the same as those of poly(etheretherketone) (PEEKTM). A series of other new poly(arylene ether nitriles) were also examined. The polymers derived from 4,4′-biphenol, dihydroxytetra-phenylmethane, dihydroxydiphenylsulfone, and 1,5-isoquinolinediol had high glass transition temperatures. The poly(arylene ether nitriles) exhibited excellent tensile strength compared with the corresponding ketone- or sulfone-containing polymers. Comparing the three different kinds of polymers containing the same bisphenol units, the order of glass transition temperature was found to be sulfone- > nitrile- > ketone-containing polymers, while the order of tensile strength was nitrile- > ketone- > sulfone-containing polymers. The excellent mechanical properties are attributable to dipole-dipole interactions of nitrile groups. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We report synthesis of a series of new triarylamine‐containing AB‐type monomers and their polymers via nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction. Monomers consisting of a hydroxyl group at the para position of the nitrogen group in one phenyl ring and a fluorine leaving group at the para position in another phenyl ring were synthesized via palladium‐catalyzed amination reaction. The fluorine leaving group was activated by trifluoromethyl group at the ortho position and an electron‐withdrawing group (EWG) introduced at the para position of the unsubstituted phenyl ring that enabled control over monomer reactivity. SNAr reaction of the monomers successfully produced corresponding poly(arylene ether)s with pendant EWGs that exhibited good solubility and thermal stability. Optical and electrochemical properties of the polymers were also affected by incorporation of EWGs. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 2692‐2702  相似文献

The phthalide ring was examined as an activating group for nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The proposed mechanism by which activation occurs is through a ring opening of the phthalide ring to form a Meisenheimer‐like σ complex. 3,3‐Bis(4‐fluorophenyl)phthalide was synthesized and examined under different reaction conditions to determine its suitability for polymer formation. Semiempirical calculations at the PM3 level suggested that 3,3‐bis(4‐fluorophenyl)phthalide is only moderately activated, whereas 1H, 13C, and 19F NMR spectroscopy suggested that the monomer was not sufficiently activated for nucleophilic aromatic substitution. However, low‐molecular‐weight polymers (number‐average molecular weight < 7000 g/mol) were produced from bisphenol A, hydroquinone, and phenolphthalein. The polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. The polymers displayed relatively high glass‐transition temperatures. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 3046–3054, 2002  相似文献

Novel methyl-substituted aromatic poly (ether sulfone)s and poly (ether ketone)s were synthesized from combinations of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbipheny-4,4′-diol and 2,2′,3,3′,5,5′-hexamethylbiphenyl-4,4′-diol, and 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone and 4,4′-difluorobenzo-phenone by nucleophilic aromatic substitution polycondensation. The polycondensations proceeded quantitatively in a N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone-toluene solvent system in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate to afford the polymers with inherent viscosities between 0.86 and 1.55 dL/g. The methyl-substituted poly (ether sulfone)s and poly (ether ketone)s showed good solubility in common organic solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, pyridine, m-cresol, and N,N-dimethylacetamide. The tetramethyl- and hexamethyl-substituted aromatic polyethers had higher glass transition temperatures than the corresponding unsubstituted polymers, and did not decompose below 350°C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. The films of the methyl-substituted poly (ether ketone)s became insoluble in chloroform by the irradiation of ultraviolet light, indicating the occurrence of photochemical crosslinking reactions. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of ABx‐type triarylphosphine oxide monomers, bis‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)phosphine oxide ( 4a ), bis‐(3,4‐difluorophenyl)‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)phosphine oxide ( 4b ), and 4‐hydroxyphenyl‐bis‐(3,4,5‐trifluorophenyl)phosphine oxide ( 4c ) were prepared, characterized, and polymerized under nucleophilic aromatic substitution conditions [N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP), K2CO3] to provide the corresponding hyperbranched poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide)s with number‐average molecular weights ranging from 9200 to 14,600 Da. NMR spectroscopic analysis indicated the presence of highly branched products with an approximate degree of branching of 0.57. The polymers were soluble in a variety of typical organic solvents and displayed excellent thermal stability. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new poly(arylene ether)s, containing naphthalene, pyridine, and quinoline units have been prepared by solution condensation polymerization. The synthesis involves nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with aromatic potassium bisphenates in an anhydrous dipolar aprotic solvent at elevated temperatures. The polymers, having inherent viscosity from 0.24 to 1.32 dL/g, were obtained in quantitative yield, have excellent thermal stability as shown by 10% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen and air (above 450 and 430°C, respectively) and high glass transition temperatures (in the range of 150–220°C). The introduction of quinoline moieties in the polymer backbone positively influences the thermal properties, such as high Tg/Tm ratios. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The bisphenol 4,4″‐dihydroxy‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl ( 4 ), containing a 1,3,5‐triphenylbenzene moiety, was synthesized from a pyrylium salt obtained by the reaction of benzaldehyde with p‐methoxyacetophenone with boron trifluoride etherate as a condensing agent. Polymers were obtained from 4 by a nucleophilic displacement reaction with various activated difluoro monomers and with K2CO3 as a base. A series of new poly(arylene ether)s ( 8a – 8f ) were obtained that contained phenyl‐substituted m‐terphenyl segments in the polymer chain. Polymers with inherent viscosities of 0.41–0.99 dL/g were obtained in yields greater than 96%. The polymers were soluble in a variety of organic solvents, including nonpolar solvents such as toluene. Clear, transparent, and flexible films cast from CHCl3 showed high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg = 198–270 °C) and had excellent thermal stability, as shown by temperatures of 5% weight loss greater than 500 °C. 4 was converted via N,N‐dimethyl‐O‐thiocarbamate into the masked dithiol 4,4″‐bis(N,N′‐dimethyl‐S‐thiocarbamate)‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl and was polymerized with activated difluoro compounds in the presence of a mixture of Cs2CO3 and CaCO3 as a base in diphenyl sulfone as a solvent. A series of new poly(arylene thioether)s ( 9a – 9e ) were obtained with Tg values similar to those of 8a – 8e . 9a – 9e were further oxidized into poly(arylene sulfone)s with Tg values 40–80 °C higher than those for 8a – 8e and 9a – 9e . These polymers also had good solubility in organic solvents. A sulfonic acid group was selectively introduced onto the pendent phenyl group of polymers 8a and 8f by reaction with chlorosulfonic acid. The polymers were soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents and formed films via casting from dimethylformamide. Polymers 8a – 8f , 11a , and 11f showed blue and red fluorescence under ultraviolet–visible light with emission maxima at 380–440 nm. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Four novel poly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P4 ) consisting of alternate isolated electron‐transporting (3,3″′‐bis‐trifluoromethyl‐p‐quaterphenyl for P1 , P3 or 3,3″′‐dicyano‐p‐quaterphenyl for P2 , P4 ) and hole‐transporting fluorophores [N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐bis(styryl)carbazole for P1 , P2 or 9,9‐dihexyl‐2,7‐bis(styryl)fluorene for P3 , P4 ] were synthesized and characterized. These poly(aryl ether)s can be dissolved in organic solvents and exhibited good thermal stability with 5% weight‐loss temperature above 500 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. The photoluminescent (PL) spectra of the films of these polymers showed maximum peaks at around 442–452 nm. The PL spectral results revealed that the emission of polymers was dominated by the fluorophores with longer emissive wavelength via the energy transfer from p‐quaterphenyl to 3,6‐bis(styryl)carbazole or 2,7‐bis(styryl)fluorene segments. Therefore, the p‐quaterphenyl segments function only as the electron‐transporting/hole‐blocking units in these polymers, and the other segments are the emissive centers and hole‐transporting units. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels of these polymers were measured by cyclic voltammetry. The electron‐donating nitrogen atom on carbazole resulted in the higher HOMO energy levels of P1 and P2 than those of P3 and P4 . The single‐layer light‐emitting diodes (LED) of Al/poly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P4 )/ITO glass were fabricated. P1 , P2 , and P4 revealed blue electroluminescence, but P3 emitted yellow light as a result of the excimer emission. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ether sulfone)s containing pendant sodium sulfonate groups were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4′-dichlorodiphenylsulfone ( 1 ) and sodium 5,5′-sulfonylbis (2-chlorobenzenesulfonate) ( 2 ) with bisphenols ( 3 ) in the presence of potassium carbonate in N,N-dimethylacetamide. A new monomer 2 containing the sodium sulfonate groups was synthesized by the sulfonation of 1 with fuming sulfuric acid. The polycondensation proceeded smoothly at 170°C and produced the desired poly(ether sulfone)s containing the sodium sulfonate with inherent viscosities up to 1.2 dL/g. The polymers were quite soluble in strong acid, dipolar aprotic solvents, m-cresol, and dichloromethane. The thermogravimetry of the polymers showed excellent thermal stability, indicating that 10% weight losses of the polymers were observed in the range above 460°C in nitrogen atmosphere. Both the glass transition temperatures and hydrophilicity of the polymers increased with increasing their concentrations of sodium sulfonate groups. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(arylene ether imidazole)s were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic displacement reaction of a bisphenol imidazole with activated aromatic dihalides. The polymers had glass transition temperatures ranging from 230 to 318°C and number-average molecular weights as high as 82,000 g/mol. Thermogravimetric analysis showed a 5% weight loss occurring ~ 400°C in air and ~ 500°C in nitrogen. Typical neat resin mechanical properties obtained at room temperature included tensile strength and tensile modulus of 14.2 and 407 ksi and fracture energy (Glc) of 23 in. lb/in.2 Titanium-to-titanium tensile shear strengths measured at 23 and 200°C were 4800 and 3000 psi, respectively. In addition, preliminary data were obtained on carbon fiber laminates. The chemistry, physical, and mechanical properties of these polymers are discussed.  相似文献

Polycondensation normally proceeds in a step-growth reaction manner to give polymers with a wide range of molecular weights. However, the polycondensation of potassium 2-alkyl-5-cyano-4-fluorophenolate ( 1 ) proceeded at 150°C in a chain polymerization manner from initiator, 4-fluoro-4′-trifluoromethyl benzophenone ( 2 ), to give aromatic polyethers having controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities (Mw/Mn ⩽ 1.2). The resulting polycondensation of 1 had all of the characteristics of living polymerization and displayed a linear correlation between molecular weight and monomer conversion, maintaining low polydispersities. Sulfolane was a better solvent for chain-growth polycondensation of 1 than other aprotic solvents. The polyether from 1 with a low polydispersity showed higher crystallinity than that with a broad molecular weight distribution, obtained by the conventional polycondensation of 1 without 2 .  相似文献

Poly(arylene ether)s containing N-arylenebenzimidazole groups were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic displacement reaction of two new bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s with activated aromatic difluorides in sulfolane at 200°C in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate. The bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s were prepared from bis(o-aminoanilino) arylenes and phenyl-4-hydroxybenzoate. The polymers were soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and m-cresol and exhibited inherent viscosities from 0.37–0.86 dL/g and glass transition temperatures from 219–289°C. Thermogravimetric analyses showed 5% weight losses from 463–506°C in air and 467–522°C in nitrogen. Unoriented thin films exhibited tensile strengths, moduli, and break elongations at 23°C of 10.2–12.5 ksi, 318–365 ksi, and 4–7%, respectively, and at 177°C of 5.1–6.9 ksi, 256–296 ksi, and 1–5%, respectively. A 50 : 50 random copolymer prepared from 1,3-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl) benzene, 1,1'-(4,4'-biphenylene)-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole], and 5,5'-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole] exhibited higher moisture absorption and lower tensile properties than those predicted by a rule of mixtures relationship. The chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of these polymers are discussed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.?  相似文献

A series of poly(arylene ether)s containing triphenylmethane moiety were synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement of aromatic dihalides with bisphenols in an aprotic solvent in the presence of excess potassium carbonate. High molecular weight and fibrous polymers in white color can be readily afforded in short reaction time. The structures of the synthesized monomers and polymers were investigated by 1H NMR and MS techniques. The sulfonation position of the synthesized polymer can be easily controlled and the water-up-take can be conveniently tailored by changing the amount of sulfonation agent. This sulfonated polymer 4b is soluble in polar organic solvents, such as NMP, DMAc, DMSO, DMF, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and can be readily cast into tough and smooth films from solutions. The sulfonated polymers can be potentially used as the proton-exchange membranes for fuel-cells.  相似文献

New well-defined telechelic poly(phenyleneoxide)s (PPO's) were synthesized from 4-bromo-2,6-dimethylphenol and bi-phenolic compounds through phase transfer catalyzed aromatic nucleophilic substitution polymerization. Bisphenol-A (BPA), 4,4-biphenol (BP), hydroquinone (HQ) and 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) were employed as telechelic units. The composition analysis by proton-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy revealed that DHN was highly reactive compared to BPA and HQ, whereas BP was un-reactive in the polymerization process. The number average repeating unit (n) in telechelic PPO was estimated as n=17-19 and n=17-20 for DHN and BPA (or HQ), respectively. The reactivity of the bi-phenolic in PPO synthesis are confirmed as DHN > HQ ∼ BPA ? BP. The molecular weight determination by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and viscosity method suggest that the molecular weight of PPO decreased drastically with increasing amount of bi-phenolic units in the feed. The GPC chromatogram of PPO showed a bi-modal distribution, clearly indicative of formation of two different types of molecular weight chains, whereas the telechelic polymers have a mono-modal distribution with a narrow polydispersity. Thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry revealed that telechelic polymers are highly amorphous, like PPO, and no crystallization or melting peaks were observed in the heating/cooling cycles.  相似文献

Novel poly(arylene ether)s, poly(arylene thioether)s, and poly(arylene sulfone)s were synthesized from the dihydroxy(imidoarylene) monomer 1 . The syntheses of poly(arylene ether)s were carried out in DMAc in the presence of anhydrous K2CO3 by a nucleophilic substitution reaction between the bisphenol and activated difluoro compounds. Poly(arylene thioether)s were synthesized according to the recently discovered one-pot polymerization reaction between a bis(N,N′-dimethyl-S-carbamate) and activated difluoro compounds in the presence of a mixture of Cs2CO3 and CaCO3. The bis(N,N′-dimethyl-S-carbamate) 3 was synthesized by the thermal rearrangement reaction of bis(N,N′-dimethylthiocarbamate) 2 , which was synthesized from 1 by a phase-transfer catalyzed reaction. The poly(arylene thioether)s were further oxidized to form poly(arylene sulfone)s, which would be very difficult, if not impossible, to synthesize by other methods. All of the polymers described have extremely high Tgs and thermal stability as determined from DSC and TGA analysis. Poly(arylene sulfone)s have the highest Tgs and they are in the range of 298–361°C. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 1201–1208, 1998  相似文献

A series of hyperbranched poly(arylene ether phosphine oxide)s (HB PAEPOs) were prepared via an A2 + B3 polymerization scheme with tris(4‐fluorophenyl)phosphine oxide as B3, and a variety of bisphenols as A2. The effects of the reactivity of the A2 monomer, the A:B ratio, the addition mode, the solvent, and the concentration on the final molecular weight, polydispersity index (PDI), and degree of branching (DB) were studied. Soluble HB PAEPOs with weight‐average molecular weights of up to 299,000 Da were achieved. Reactions in which the A2 component was added slowly resulted in lower DBs (0.2–0.5), whereas the slow addition of the B3 component provided samples with DBs of approximately 0.75. Reactions performed under high‐dilution conditions afforded completely soluble materials with weight‐average molecular weights of 9000–12,100 Da and PDI values as low as 2.20. The molecular weights achieved under high‐dilution conditions were independent of the mode of monomer addition. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fluorinated dihydroxy phosphine oxide monomers were synthesized via chlorination, Grignard, and demethylation techniques. The prepared monomer was successfully polymerized with each of the three perfluorinated monomers (decafluorobiphenyl, decafluorobenzophenone, and pentafluorophenylsulfide) by nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The average molecular weight ranged between 7800 and 14,900 g/mol. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were registered in the range of 185–235 °C, and all the polymers exhibited high thermal stability up to 326–408 °C. The results of the refractive‐index measurements indicated control of the refractive index between 1.5181 and 1.5536 and an optical loss of 0.53 dB/cm at 1550 nm. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
