The production of pairs of Higgs bosons at hadron colliders provides unique information on the Higgs sector and on the mechanism underlying electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB). Most studies have concentrated on the gluon-fusion production mode which has the largest cross section. However, despite its small production rate, the vector-boson fusion channel can also be relevant since even small modifications of the Higgs couplings to vector bosons induce a striking increase of the cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the Higgs boson pair. In this work we exploit this unique signature to propose a strategy to extract the hhVV quartic coupling and provide model-independent constraints on theories where EWSB is driven by new strong interactions. We take advantage of the higher signal yield of the \(b\bar{b} b\bar{b}\) final state and make extensive use of jet-substructure techniques to reconstruct signal events with a boosted topology, characteristic of large partonic energies, where each Higgs boson decays to a single collimated jet. Our results demonstrate that the hhVV coupling can be measured with 45% (20%) precision at the LHC for \(\mathscr {L}=300\) (3000) fb\(^{-1}\), while a 1% precision can be achieved at a 100 TeV collider.  相似文献

In order to solve the hierarchy problem, several extra-dimensional models have received considerable attention. We have considered a process where a Higgs boson is produced in association with a KK-graviton (G KK) at the LHC. At the leading order, this process occurs through the gluon fusion mechanism gghG KK via a quark loop. We compute the cross section and examine some features of this process in the ADD model. We find that the quark in the loop does not decouple in the large quark-mass limit just as in the case of ggh process. We compute the cross section of this process for the case of the RS model also. We examine the feasibility of this process being observed at the LHC.  相似文献

We have analyzed the prospect of detecting a Higgs signal in mSUGRA/cMSSM based Supersymmetric (SUSY) model via chargino-neutralino ( ${\tilde{\chi}}^{\pm}_{1}\tilde{\chi}^{0}_{2}In order to generate mass for an abelian spin-1 vector field while preserving gauge invariance we couple it to a symmetric tensor. The derivative coupling includes up to three derivatives. We show that unitarity, causality and absence of Stueckelberg (compensating) fields single out a unique model up to trivial field redefinitions. The model contains one massive and one massless spin-1 particle. It is shown by means of a master action to be dual to the direct sum of a Maxwell plus a Maxwell?CProca theory.  相似文献

The possibility of observing the radion in the process of vector-boson fusion at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in proton-proton collisions at the c.m. energy of √s = 14 TeV is studied. A region of kinematical variables where background processes can be suppressed substantially and where the process in which the production of a radion is followed by its decay to two Z bosons can be separated is found. It is shown that the radion could be discovered in the process under study at an energy scale of up to 0.75 TeV at the LHC luminosity of L = 300 fb?1.  相似文献

Recent theoretical developments concerning Higgs production at the large hadron collider are reviewed, both in the standard model and in the MSSM. Emphasis is put on the inclusive and exclusive cross-sections for gluon fusion, as well as on the associated production with bottom quarks.  相似文献

Exclusive double diffractive (EDD) Higgs boson production is analyzed in the framework of the Regge-eikonal approach. Total and differential cross-sections for the process are calculated. We examine the contributions of soft gluons to the Higgs production cross section at the LHC in the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension. The soft gluon radiation effects of this reaction share many features with the Drell-Yan process, but arise at lowest order from a purely gluonic initial state. We provide an extension of the conventional soft gluon resummation formalism to include a new class of contributions which we argue to be universal, and resum these and the usual Sudakov effects to all orders. The effect of these new terms is striking: only if they are included, does the expansion of the resummed cross section to next-to-leading order reproduce the exact result to within a few percent for the full range of Higgs boson masses. We use our resummed cross section to derive next-to-next-to-leading order results, and their scale dependence. Moreover, we demonstrate the importance of including the novel contributions in the resummed Drell-Yan process.  相似文献

The investigation of the dynamics responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking is one of the prime tasks of the experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this article, the potential of the ATLAS and CMS experiments for the discovery of a standard model Higgs boson and for Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension is summarized. Emphasis is put on those studies which have been performed recently by the experimental collaborations using a realistic simulation of the detector performance. This includes a discussion of the search for Higgs bosons using the vector boson-fusion mode, a discussion on the measurement of Higgs boson parameters as well as a detailed review of the MSSM sector for different benchmark scenarios.  相似文献

We review the prospects for searches of the Standard Model Higgs boson at the LHC, based on detailed studies performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. The search channels and strategies are described, resulting in the assessment of the discovery potential for the two experiments. We discuss the prospects for measurements in the Higgs sector. We investigate the corrections of the “littlest” Higgs (LH) model and the SU(3) simple group model to single top production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We find that the new gauge bosons WH ± predicted by the LH model can generate significant contributions to single top production via the s-channel process. The correction terms for the tree-level Wqq’ couplings coming from the SU(3) simple group model can give large contributions to the cross sections of the t-channel single top production process. We expect that the effects of the LH model and the SU(3) simple group model on single top production can be detected at the LHC experiments.  相似文献

We study pair production of Higgs bosons at hadron colliders via the gluon fusion process gg → HH. This process is dependent on the three-Higgs self-coupling. We find that this coupling is an important effect in determining the absolute size of the cross section. However, the shapes of the transverse momentum and the rapidity distributions are almost unaffected by its presence. At SSC energies we find cross sections in the range 1pb − 1fb, for Higgs boson masses of 50–250 GeV and top masses larger than 40 GeV. At LHC energies the cross sections are about a factor of five smaller.  相似文献

One of the future goals of the LHC is to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson. The associated production of a Higgs boson and top quark pair is a promising process to investigate the related Yukawa interaction and the properties of the Higgs. Compared with the pure scalar sector in the Standard Model, the Higgs sector contains both scalars and pseudoscalars in many new physics models, which makes the ttH interaction more complex and provides a variety of phenomena. To investigate the ttH interaction and the properties of the Higgs, we study the top quark spin correlation observables at the LHC.  相似文献

The Elementary Goldstone Higgs(EGH) model is a perturbative extension of the standard model(SM),which identifies the EGH boson as the observed Higgs boson. In this paper, we study pair production of the EGH boson via gluon fusion at the LHC and find that the resonant contribution of the heavy scalar is very small and the SM-like triangle diagram contribution is strongly suppressed. The total production cross section mainly comes from the box diagram contribution and its value can be significantly enhanced with respect to the SM prediction.  相似文献

Cross sections for J/ψ mesons produced in association with open charm and two charmed hadrons from different $c\bar c$ pairs under LHC conditions are predicted theoretically. The respective processes are considered both in single and in double parton interactions. Particular attention is given to kinematical limits of the LHCb detector, and a comparison with the most recent experimental data is performed for them.  相似文献
