In this note we consider the property of being constrained in the bidual, for the space of Bochner integrable functions. For a Banach spaceX having the Radon-Nikodym property and constrained in its bidual and forY ⊂ X, under a natural assumption onY, we show thatL 1 (μ, X/Y) is constrained in its bidual andL 1 (μ, Y) is a proximinal subspace ofL 1(μ, X). As an application of these results, we show that, ifL 1(μ, X) admits generalized centers for finite sets and ifY ⊂ X is reflexive, thenL 1 μ, X/Y) also admits generalized centers for finite sets.  相似文献

For 1 ≤p ≤ ∞ we show that there are no denting points in the unit ball of ℓ(lp). This extends a result recently proved by Grząślewicz and Scherwentke whenp = 2 [GS1]. We also show that for any Banach spaceX and for any measure space (Ω, A, μ), the unit ball of ℓ(L 1 (μ), X) has denting points iffL 1(μ) is finite dimensional and the unit ball ofX has a denting point. We also exhibit other classes of Banach spacesX andY for which the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) has no denting points. When X* has the extreme point intersection property, we show that all ‘nice’ operators in the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) are strongly extreme points.  相似文献

A set-valued mapping F from a topological space X to a topological space Y is called a cusco map if F is upper semicontinuous and F(x) is a nonempty, compact and connected subset of Y for each xX. We denote by L(X), the space of all subsets F of X × ℝ such that F is the graph of a cusco map from the space X to the real line ℝ. In this paper, we study topological properties of L(X) endowed with the Vietoris topology. Several necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the existence of aσ-finite invariant measure for a positive operator onL . They are ofσ-type: the entire space is an increasing union of setsX k each of which is well-behaved. We introduce a lower semicontinuous analog, L (X), of the well-studied space of upper semicontinuous set-valued maps with nonempty compact interval images. Because the elements of L (X) contain continuous selections, the space C(X) of real-valued continuous functions on X can be used to establish properties of L (X), such as the two interrelated main theorems. The first of these theorems, the Extension Theorem, is proved in this Part I. The Extension Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every bimonotone homeomorphism between C(X) and C(Y) can be extended to an ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y). The second main theorem, the Factorization Theorem, is proved in Part II. The Factorization Theorem says that for binormal spaces X and Y, every ordered homeomorphism between L (X) and L (Y) can be characterized by a unique factorization.  相似文献

LetC(X,Y) be the space of continuous functions from a metric space (X,d) to a metric space (Y, e).C(X, Y) can be thought as subset of the hyperspaceCL(X×Y) of closed and nonempty subsets ofX×Y by identifying each element ofC(X,Y) with its graph. We considerC(X,Y) with the topology inherited from the Wijsman topology induced onCL(X×Y) by the box metric ofd ande. We study the relationships between the Wijsman topology and the compact-open topology onC(X,Y) and also conditions under which the Wijsman topology coincide with the Fell topology. Sufficient conditions under which the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology are given (IfY is totally bounded, then for every metric spaceX the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology and the same is true forX locally connected andY rim-totally bounded). We prove that a metric spaceX is boundedly compact iff the Wijsman topology onC(X, ℝ) is weaker than the compact-open topology. We show that ifX is a σ-compact complete metric space andY a compact metric space, then the Wijsman topology onC(X,Y) is Polish.  相似文献

We show that the Rudin-Plotkin isometry extension theorem inL pimplies that whenX andY are isometric subspaces ofL pandp is not an even integer, 1≤p<∞, thenX is complemented inL pif and only ifY is; moreover, the constants of complementation ofX andY are equal. We provide examples demonstrating that this fact fails whenp is an even integer larger than 2.  相似文献

LetX be a Banach space. A Banach spaceY is an envelope ofX if (1)Y is finitely representable inX; (2) any Banach spaceZ finitely representable inX and of density character not exceeding that ofY is isometric to a subspace ofY. Lindenstrauss and Pelczynski have asked whether any separable Banach space has a separable envelope. We give a negative answer to this question by showing the existence of a Banach space isomorphic tol 2, which has no separable envelope. A weaker positive result holds: any separable Banach space has an envelope of density character ≦ℵ1 (assuming the continuum hypothesis).  相似文献

LetX be a Riemann surface of genusg. The surfaceX is called elliptic-hyperelliptic if it admits a conformal involutionh such that the orbit spaceX/〈h〉 has genus one. The involutionh is then called an elliptic-hyperelliptic involution. Ifg>5 then the involutionh is unique, see [A]. We call symmetry to any anticonformal involution ofX. LetAut ±(X) be the group of conformal and anticonformal automorphisms ofX and letσ, τ be two symmetries ofX with fixed points and such that {σ, hσ} and {τ, hτ} are not conjugate inAut ±(X). We describe all the possible topological conjugacy classes of {σ, σh, τ, τh}. As consequence of our study we obtain that, in the moduli space of complex algebraic curves of genusg (g even >5), the subspace whose elements are the elliptic-hyperelliptic real algebraic curves is not connected. This fact contrasts with the result in [Se]: the subspace whose elements are the hyperelliptic real algebraic curves is connected. The authors are supported by BFM2002-04801.  相似文献

The chaos caused by a strong-mixing preserving transformation is discussed and it is shown that for a topological spaceX satisfying the second axiom of countability and for an outer measurem onX satisfying the conditions: (i) every non-empty open set ofX ism-measurable with positivem-measure; (ii) the restriction ofm on Borel σ-algebra ℬ(X) ofX is a probability measure, and (iii) for everyYX there exists a Borel setB⊂ℬ(X) such thatBY andm(B) =m(Y), iff:XX is a strong-mixing measure-preserving transformation of the probability space (X, ℬ(X),m), and if {m}, is a strictly increasing sequence of positive integers, then there exists a subsetCX withm (C) = 1, finitely chaotic with respect to the sequence {m i}, i.e. for any finite subsetA ofC and for any mapF:AX there is a subsequencer i such that limi→∞ f r i(a) =F(a) for anyaA. We prove that ifX is a Polish space andF a face ofP(X) with the Baire property, thenF is either a meager or a co-meager subset ofP(X). As a consequence we show that for every abelian Polish groupX and every analytic Haar-null set Λ⊆X, the set of test measuresT(Λ) of Λ is either meager or co-meager. We characterize the non-locally-compact groups as the ones for which there exists a closed Haar-null setFX withT(F) meager, Moreover, we answer negatively a question of J. Mycielski by showing that for every non-locally-compact abelian Polish group and every σ-compact subgroupG ofX there exists aG-invariantF σ subset ofX which is neither prevalent nor Haar-null. Suppose that 1<p≦2, 2≦q<∞. The formal identity operatorI:l pl qfactorizes through any given non-compact operator from ap-smooth Banach space into aq-convex Banach space. It follows that ifX is a 2-convex space andY is an infinite dimensional subspace ofX which is isomorphic to a Hilbert space, thenY contains an isomorphic copy ofl 2 which is complemented inX.  相似文献

Letp>1 be prime, and letYX=(ℤ/pℤ) 2) be an infinite, closed, shift-invariant subgroup with the following properties: the restriction toY of the shift-actionσ of ℤ2 onX is mixing with respect to the Haar measureλ Y ofY, and every closed, shift-invariant subgroupZY is finite. We prove that every sufficiently mixing, non-atomic, shift-invariant probability measureμ onY is equal toλ Y . LetL be a sublattice of the space of real continuous functions defined on a Suslin spaceX, such that at no point all the functions inL vanish. Then it is shown that every Daniell integrall μ:L → IR is representable by a Radon measurem onX: μ(ϕ)=∫ϕdm ∀ϕ∈L. The measurem may be uniquely determined by constraining it to be concentrated on a certain type of subset ofX. The relation betweenL 1(μ) andL 1(m) is examined in detail.  相似文献

LetG be a locally compact second countable abelian group, (X, μ) aσ-finite Lebesgue space, and (g, x) →gx a non-singular, properly ergodic action ofG on (X, μ). Let furthermore Γ be the character group ofG and let Sp(G, X) ⊂ Γ denote theL -spectrum ofG on (X, μ). It has been shown in [5] that Sp(G, X) is a Borel subgroup of Γ and thatσ (Sp(G, X))<1 for every probability measureσ on Γ with lim supg→∞Re (g)<1, where is the Fourier transform ofσ. In this note we prove the following converse: ifσ is a probability measure on Γ with lim supg→∞Re (g)<1 (g)=1 then there exists a non-singular, properly ergodic action ofG on (X, μ) withσ(Sp(G, X))=1.  相似文献

In this paper a variant of Lusternik-Schnirelmann category is presented which is denoted byQcat(X). It is obtained by applying a base-point free version ofQ fibrewise to the Ganea fibrations. We provecat(X)≥Qcat(X)≥σcat(X) whereσcat(X) denotes Y. Rudyak’s strict category weight. However,Qcat(X) approximatescat(X) better, because, e.g., in the case of a rational spaceQcat(X)=cat(X) andσcat(X) equals the Toomer invariant. We show thatQcat(X×Y)≤Qcat(X)+Qcat(Y). The invariantQcat is designed to measure the failure of the formulacat(X×S r )=cat(X)+1. In fact for 2-cell complexesQcat(X)<cat(X)⇔cat(X×S r )=cat(X) for somer≥1. We note that the paper is written in the more general context of a functor λ from the category of spaces to itself satisfying certain conditions; λ=Q, Ω n Σ n ,Sp orL f are just particular cases.  相似文献

Let [X, v, Y] be an abstract information channel with the input X = (X, ) and the output Y = (Y, ) which are measurable spaces, and denote by L(Y) = L(Y, ) the Banach space of all bounded signed measures with finite total variation as norm. The channel distribution ν(·,·) is considered as a function defined on (X, ) and valued in L(Y). It will be proved that, if the measurable space (Y, ) is countably generated, then the is a strongly measurable function from X into L(Y) if and only if there exists a probability measure μ on (Y, ) which dominates every measure ν(x, ·) (x X). Furthermore, under this condition, the Radon-Nikodym derivative ν(x, dy)/μ(dy) is jointly measurable with respect to the product measure space (X, , m) (Y, , μ) where m is any but fixed probability measure of (X, ). As an application, it will be shown that the channel given as above is uniformly approximated by channels of Hibert-Schmidt type.  相似文献

Jensen's celebrated Covering Lemma states that if 0# does not exist, then for any uncountable set of ordinals X, there is a YL such that XY and |X| = |Y|. Working in ZF + AD alone, we establish the following analog: If ℝ# does not exist, then L(ℝ) and V have exactly the same sets of reals and for any set of ordinals X with |X| ≥Θ L (ℝ), there is a YL(ℝ) such that XY and |X| = |Y|. Here ℝ is the set of reals and Θ is the supremum of the ordinals which are the surjective image of ℝ. Received: 29 October 1999 / Published online: 12 December 2001  相似文献

We characterize the maximalm-bounded extension of an arbitrary completely regular Hausdorff spaceX. The other principal results are:Theorem. LetX be a locally compact, σ-compact non-compact space with no more than 2ℵ0 zero-sets. Then assuming the continuum hypothesis,βX − X can be written as the union of 22ℵ0 pairwise disjoint, dense ℵ0-bounded subspaces.Theorem. LetX be a locally compact, σ-compact metric space without isolated points. Then both the set of remote points ofβX and the complement of this set inβXX are ℵ0-bounded.  相似文献
