If (Ω,Σ) is a measurable space and X a Banach space, we provide sufficient conditions on Σ and X in order to guarantee that bvca(Σ, X) the Banach space of all X-valued countably additive measures of bounded variation equipped with the variation norm, contains a copy of c0 if and only if X does. In this article we study the embeddability of cones in a Banach space X. First we prove that c 0 is embeddable in X if and only if its positive cone c0+{c_0^+} is embeddable in X and we study some properties of Banach spaces containing c 0 in the light of this result. So, unlike with the positive cone of 1 which is embeddable in any non-reflexive space, c0+{c_0^+} has the same behavior as the whole space c 0. In the second part of this article we give a characterization of Grothendieck spaces X according to the geometry of cones of X*. By these results we give a partial positive answer to a problem of J.H. Qiu concerning the geometry of cones.  相似文献

In this paper, we show, among other results, that if X is a [separable] locally compact space X [satisfying the first countability axiom] then the space Cc (X) has countable tightness [if and only if it has bounding tightness] if and only if it is Frechet-Urysohn, if and only if Cc (X) contains a dense (LM) subspace and if and only if X is a-compact.  相似文献

We consider some problems concerning the L p,q -cohomology of Riemannian manifolds. In the first part, we study the question of the normal solvability of the operator of exterior derivation on a surface of revolution M considered as an unbounded linear operator acting from Lpk (M) into Lk+1q (M). In the second part, we prove that the first L p,q-cohomology of the general Heisenberg group is nontrivial, provided that p < q. In this paper, we consider the special case of the question raised by Halmos (see below). In particular, we show that if Tk is p-hyponormal, then T is a subscalar operator of order 4k. As a corollary, we obtain that if Tk is p-hyponormal and σ(T) has nonempty interior in the plane, then T has a nontrivial invariant subspace.  相似文献

Given 1≤ p,q < ∞, let BLpLq be the class of all Banach lattices X such that X is isometrically lattice isomorphic to a band in some Lp(Lq)-Banach lattice. We show that the range of a positive contractive projection on any BLpLq-Banach lattice is itself in BLpLq. It is a consequence of this theorem and previous results that BLpLq is first-order axiomatizable in the language of Banach lattices. By studying the pavings of arbitrary BLpLq-Banach lattices by finite dimensional sublattices that are themselves in this class, we give an explicit set of axioms for BLpLq. We also consider the class of all sublattices of Lp(Lq)-Banach lattices; for this class (when p/q is not an integer) we give a set of axioms that are similar to Krivine’s well-known axioms for the subspaces of Lp-Banach spaces (when p/2 is not an integer). In the present paper we consider a von Neumann algebra M with a faithful normal semi-finite trace τ, and {α t }, a strongly continuous extension to L p (M, τ) of a semigroup of absolute contractions on L 1(M, τ). By means of a non-commutative Banach Principle we prove for a Besicovitch function b and xL p (M, τ), that the averages 1/T0 T b(t)α t (x)dt converge bilateral almost uniformly in L p (M, τ) as T → 0. This paper considers some random processes of the form X n+1=T X n +B n (mod p) where B n and X n are random variables over (ℤ/pℤ) d and T is a fixed d×d integer matrix which is invertible over the complex numbers. For a particular distribution for B n , this paper improves results of Asci to show that if T has no complex eigenvalues of length 1, then for integers p relatively prime to det (T), order (log p)2 steps suffice to make X n close to uniformly distributed where X 0 is the zero vector. This paper also shows that if T has a complex eigenvalue which is a root of unity, then order p b steps are needed for X n to get close to uniformly distributed for some positive value b≤2 which may depend on T and X 0 is the zero vector.  相似文献

For 0 < p < 1, circle numbers π(p) are defined to reflect the Euclidean area-content property A p(r) = π(p)r 2 and circumference property {ie332-01} of the l 2,p -circle discs with p-generalized radius r, where the arc-length measure {ie332-02} is based upon the nonconvex star-shaped set {ie332-03} with p** > 0 satisfying {ie332-04}. The resulting π-function extends the function p → π(p) recently defined in [2] from the case of convex discs, p ⩾ 1, to the nonconvex case 0 < p < 1. This function is continuous, increasing, and takes values in (0, 2). The presented approach can be considered as reflecting a modified method of indivisibles in the sense that the indivisibles are the l 2,p -circles and that integrating their S(p**)-arc-lengths is equivalent to measuring the Euclidean area content.  相似文献

Circle numbers are defined to reflect the Euclidean area-content and, for p ≠ 2, suitably defined non-Euclidean circumference properties of the l 2,p -circles, p ∈ [1, ∞]. The resulting function is continuous, increasing, and takes all values from [2, 4]. The actually chosen dual l 2,p -geometry for measuring the arc-length is closely connected with a generalization of the method of indivisibles of Cavalieri and Torricelli in the sense that integrating such arc-lengths means measuring area content. Moreover, this approach enables one to look in a new way into the co-area formula of measure theory which says that integrating Euclidean arc-lengths does not yield area content except for p = 2. The new circle numbers play a natural role, e.g., as norming constants in geometric measure representation formulae for p-generalized uniform probability distributions on l 2,p -circles.  相似文献

It is shown that the abstract Cauchy problem enjoys maximal regularity in weighted L p -spaces with weights , where , if and only if it has the property of maximal L p -regularity. We prove that a locally compact ANR-space X is a Q-manifold if and only if it has the Disjoint Disk Property (DDP), all points of X are homological Z -points and X has the countable-dimensional approximation property (cd-AP), which means that each map f: KX of a compact polyhedron can be approximated by a map with the countable-dimensional image. As an application we prove that a space X with DDP and cd-AP is a Q-manifold if some finite power of X is a Q-manifold. If some finite power of a space X with cd-AP is a Q-manifold, then X 2 and X × [0, 1] are Q-manifolds as well. We construct a countable family χ of spaces with DDP and cd-AP such that no space Xχ is homeomorphic to the Hilbert cube Q whereas the product X × Y of any different spaces X, Yχ is homeomorphic to Q. The hyperoperations, called theta-operations (δ), are motivated from the usual property, which the derivative has on the derivation of a product of functions. Using any map on a set, one can define δ-operations. In this paper, we continue our study on the δ-operations on groupoids, rings, fields and vector spaces or on the corresponding hyperstructures. Using δ-operations one obtains, mainly, Hwstructures, which form the largest class of the hyperstructures. For representation theory of hyperstructures, by hypermatrices, one needs special Hv-rings or Hy-fields, so these hyperstructures can be used. Moreover, we study the relation of these δ-structures with other classes of hyperstructures, especially with the Hv-structures.  相似文献

We prove that if the existence of a supercompact cardinal is consistent with ZFC, then it is consistent with ZFC that the p-rank of Ext (G, ℤ) is as large as possible for every prime p and for any torsion-free Abelian group G. Moreover, given an uncountable strong limit cardinal μ of countable cofinality and a partition of Π (the set of primes) into two disjoint subsets Π0 and Π1, we show that in some model which is very close to ZFC, there is an almost free Abelian group G of size 2μ = μ+ such that the p-rank of Ext (G, ℤ) equals 2μ = μ+ for every p ∈ Π0 and 0 otherwise, that is, for p ∈ Π1.
