Abstract

The effects of the hydrogenic impurity on the electron-related non-linear optical processes in a InAs/GaAs dome-shaped quantum dot with a wetting layer under applied electric fields are studied within the density-matrix formalism. The one-electron energy levels and wave functions are calculated using the effective mass approximation and the finite element method. The non-linear optical absorption, relative refractive index change and non-linear optical rectification associated with interlevel transitions are calculated under a strong probe field excitation for both in-plane and z-polarisation of the incident light. According to our results as the electric field increases the absorption and dispersion peaks decrease and exhibit red shift. Hydrogenic impurity located at the origin induces a blue shift in the optical responses. For the optical absorption coefficient the peaks magnitude is enhanced by the impurity presence independent of the electric field strengths, whereas the non-linear optical rectification is larger in the case with impurity only for zero applied electric field.  相似文献

In this work we report on the optical properties of single-crystalline iron thin films. For this, Cr-capped Fe films with thickness, t, in the range 30–300 Å were prepared on MgO (0 0 1) by DC magnetron sputtering, and then studied by optical absorption technique within the range from 1.0 to 3.6 eV. All measurements were carried out at room temperature using a fiber optics spectrophotometer. The intensity of the transmitted light decreases with increasing film thickness. The optical constants of the films are deduced from a model that considers the transmission of light by two absorbing films on an absorbing substrate. The absorption coefficient of the Fe films is also calculated from the transmission data. The absorption spectra show the following characteristics: (i) two large absorption peaks centered at about 1.20 and 2.65 eV; and (ii) a sharp step near 1.40 eV. These structures are associated with conventional interband transitions of the iron film.  相似文献

Abstract

The loss in a low-loss multimode optical fiber consists of Rayleigh scattering loss and microbending loss. These losses depend on the structural parameters of the fiber. On the other hand, the coupling optical power from optical source into fiber and connection loss of fibers also depend on the parameters. This paper considers the combination of light emitting diode as an optical source and a graded index fiber as a transmission line and discusses the optimum parameters that give the longest possible span length between an optical transmitter and receiver.  相似文献

The coefficient of absorption of electromagnetic radiation by a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas placed in an oblique magnetic field is found. The scattering of electrons by optical phonons is shown to lead to resonant absorption. The shape of the resonance peaks on the absorption curve is studied, and their doublet nature is demonstrated. Abstract

A simple and stable technique of optical short pulse generation for soliton transmission based on external modulation is reviewe.By using nonlinearity of absorption characteristics of an electroabsorption modulator, ultra-short optical pulse trains having a shape close to sech2 shape can be generated just with sinusoidal modulation, without ultra-short driving pulses and ultra-broad bandwidth of the modulator. The pulse width and the repetition rate can be varied by changing the electrical driving conditions. Quasi-transform-limited optical pulseswith time-bandwidth product of 0.32 were successfully generated by the sinusoidally driven InGaAsP electroabsorption modulator with up to 20 GHz repetition rate. An application of a λ/4-shifted DFB laser-electroabsorption modulator integrated light source to a single-chip soliton source is also described. The high quality of the modulator-generator pulses has been proven by long-distance soliton transmission over 6400 km at 2.5 Gb/s using a recirculating fiber loop.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We theoretically investigated the influences of the magnetic field and light polarisation on the electronic and optical properties of a GaAs/GaAlAs pseudo-elliptic quantum ring, modelled by an outer ellipsis and an inner circle, in the presence of the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit interactions and Zeeman effect. We show that Aharonov-Bohm oscillations of the energy spectrum are not affected by the presence of the Zeeman effect alone but, in the presence of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit couplings, the periodicity of certain levels becomes hardly definite. The Zeeman effect generally enhances/diminishes the separation levels produced by Rashba/Dresselhaus interactions (SOI) and when both types of SOI are considered, the effect depends on their relative strength. The magnetic field can trigger spin-flip for each type of spin–orbit interaction and Zeeman effect or their combination through anticrossings in the energy spectra. Our results reveal that the absorption spectra are very sensitive to the magnetic field and light polarisation. For all polarisations considered, the magnetic field increment leads to the redshift or blueshift of some particular peaks (an effect of this ring geometry) and a better separation of the peaks. The x-polarised light determines spectra with many small, but separated peaks while the circular polarised light leads to spectra with large peaks of high amplitude.  相似文献

报导了一个利用LED作光源探测甲烷浓度的差分探测系统,分析了系统中各光学元件的作用,给出甲烷浓度的计算方法及实验结果.选用甲烷在1.65 μm附近2ν3谱带中的R支作为探测对象.利用法布里-珀罗标准具的透过率曲线与甲烷吸收线相互匹配的方法滤掉无用光,并通过压电陶瓷改变标准具的腔长,从而实现了差分吸收探测,进一步提高了测量灵敏度,取得了较好的结果.  相似文献

A new method was developed for studying absorption characteristics of opaque samples based on the light scattering spectroscopy. Measurements were made in white, red and violet petals of Petunia hybrida, and gave the absorption spectra in a non-destructive manner without damaging the cell structures of the petal. The red petal has absorption peak at 550 nm and the violet has three absorption peaks: at 450, 670, and 550 nm. The results were discussed in correlation with the microscopic cell structures of the petal observed with optical microscope and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Only the cells placed in the surface have the pigments giving the color of the petal.  相似文献

Abstract

Thermo- and photo-stimulated luminescence are studied for CsI—Tl crystal after the irradiation with the UV light at 80 K. Creation spectrum of the photostimulated luminescence coincides with the D absorption band of Tl+ ions. Nature of the defects created by UV light at low temperatures is discussed basing on the correspondence between the thermostimulated glow curve peaks and thermal evolution of the photostimulation spectra observed after irradiation in the D absorption band. Three bands at 1400, 950 and 580 nm have been observed in the stimulation spectrum at 80 K. The 1400 and 950 nm stimulation bands are presumably explained as the optical transitions in the Tl0 centre forming the spatially correlated defect pair with Vk centre while the 580 nm stimulation band is connected with the unperturbed Tl0 centres. It is concluded that the Tl+ luminescence at low temperature is connected with the electron recombination with the Tl2+ centre.  相似文献

A theory of the resonant acousto-optical interaction has been constructed for spectral line broadening of arbitrary character. Account is taken of the strongest of the mechanisms of resonant photoelasticity, associated with the potential-deformation interaction of light and sound. It is shown that when inhomogeneous broadening is present the maximum efficiency of the acoustooptical interaction over the optical absorption length is not not reached at exact resonance, as in the case of homogeneously broadened lines, but at some separation from it, at a distance of about the half-width of the absorption line. It is shown that a combined study of the diffraction efficiency of the acousto-optical interaction and the optical absorption coefficient at near-resonant frequencies would make it possible to obtain information on the contributions of homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening in a real resonance and thus assess the quality of the material. This paper is an analysis of determination possibility of the optical absorption coefficient spectra of thin semiconductor layers from their normalized photoacoustic amplitude spectra. Influence of multiple reflections of light in thin layers on their photoacoustic and optical absorption coefficient spectra is presented and discussed in detail. Practical formulae for the optical absorption coefficient spectrum as a function of the normalized photoacoustic amplitude spectrum are derived and presented. Next, they were applied for computations of the optical absorption coefficient spectra of thin In2S3 thin layers deposited on a glass substrate. This method was experimentally verified with the optical transmission method.  相似文献

The extrinsic optical properties were investigated in homogeneous GaP crystals at room temperature. The transmission of extrinsic light is influenced by a simultaneous illumination of an additional light of different frequency. This light changes the occupancy of an impurity level. A simple theory is given, which relates this change in transmission of the extrinsic light to the optical cross sections of the impurity level. We had to use steady light because of the large relaxation time, but still obtained a resolution of 2 × 10−5 in the relative transmission change. The spectral dependence of the optical cross sections for an impurity level 0·9 eV below the conduction band were calculated. Another level approximately 1·85 eV from a band edge was also seen in these measurements, but it had complex optical properties. Both levels were seen in a direct measurement of the absorption coefficient.  相似文献

We investigated the single exciton and multiple exciton generation (MEG) behavior in Ag7 and single Cu atom-doped Ag7 quantum clusters using ab initio. MEG is observed for the first time in metal clusters. The results indicate that multiple excitons appear in the visible and near ultraviolet light ranges. Single excitations are main contribution for the optical spectra, while the multiple excitons merely contribute for some peaks at the higher energies. However, occurrence of MEG enhances the optical absorption in Ag7 cluster. The optical spectrum of pure Ag7 cluster obtained using the symmetry-adapted cluster theory with configuration interaction, and time-dependent density functional theory is in excellent agreement with experiment spectrum. As observed in both single Cu atom-doped Ag7 clusters, redshifts and suppressions of the MEG-related absorption peaks are observed compared with pure Ag7 cluster.  相似文献

The far infrared absorption spectrum caused by optical transitions of holes between size-quantization subbands is calculated for p-GaAs/AlGaAs(001) quantum-well structures. The selection rules for optical transitions at the center of the two-dimensional Brillouin zone are determined. Allowance is made for resonant saturation of one-photon electronic transitions between size-quantized subbands of light and heavy holes. Considering the electric field of incident light along four particular directions [100], [110], [011], and [010], the optical properties of monoclinic MnWO4 were investigated by the first-principle methods. The calculated electronic structures show that the O 2p states and Mn 3d states dominate the top of the valence bands, while the W 5d and Mn 3d states play a key role in the bottom of the conduction bands. The dielectric function and other optical properties, including absorption coefficient, reflectivity spectra, and energy-loss spectra, were calculated and analyzed. The results predicted the maximum static dielectric function when the electric field of incident light was along the [100] direction; meanwhile the absorption edge was calculated to be consistent with the energy band gap and the values and positions of peaks in absorption coefficient are related with the electric field of light. Otherwise, it is found that the appearance of peaks in the energy-loss spectra is also dependent on the electric field and simultaneously corresponds to the edge of absorption spectra and the peaks' position of reflectivity spectra.  相似文献

Chlorophyll is suggested as a suitable medium for realizing optical Boolean logic at the molecular level in view of its wavelength-selective property and polarization sensitivity in the visible region. Spectrophotometric studies are made with solutions of total chlorophyll and chromatographically isolated components, viz. chlorophyll a and b and carotenoids extracted from pumpkin leaves of different maturity stages. The absorption features of matured chlorophyll with two characteristic absorption peaks and one transmission band are molecular properties and independent of concentration. A qualitative explanation of such an absorption property is presented in terms of a ‘particle in a box’ model and the property is employed to simulate two-input optical logic operations. If both of the inputs are either red or blue, absorption is high. If either one is absent and replaced by a wavelength of the transmission band, e.g. green, absorption is low. Assigning these values as 0 s or 1 s, AND and OR operations can be performed. A NOT operation can be simulated with the transmittance instead of the absorbance. Also, the shift in absorbance values for two different polarizations of the same monochromatic light can simulate two logical states with a single wavelength. Cyclic change in absorbance is noted over a rotation of 360° for both red and blue peaks, although the difference is not very large. Red monochromatic light with polarizations apart by 90°, corresponding to maximum and minimum absorption, respectively, may be assigned as the two logical states. The fluorescence emissions for different pigment components are measured at different excitation wavelengths and the effect of fluorescence on the red absorbance is concluded to be negligible.  相似文献

A combination of optical feedback self-locking of a continuous-wave distributed feedback diode laser to a V-shaped high finesse cavity, laser phase modulation at a frequency equal to the free spectral range of the V-cavity and detection of the transmitted laser beam at this high modulation frequency is described for the possible application in cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy. In order to estimate the noise level of an absorbance baseline, the triplet of frequency modulated light, i.e. the central laser frequency and the two sidebands, were transmitted through both the V-cavity in open air and a 1.5-cm long optical cell placed behind the cavity output mirror and filled with acetylene (C2H2) at low pressure. The performance of the setup was evaluated from the measured relative intensity noise on the cavity output (normalised by the bandwidth) and the frequency modulation absorption signals induced by C2H2 absorption in the 1.5-cm cell. From these data, we estimate that the noise-equivalent absorption sensitivity of 2.1 × 10?11 cm?1 Hz?1/2—by a factor of 11.7 above the shot-noise limit—can be achieved for C2H2 absorption spectra extracted from the heterodyne beat signals recorded at the transmission maxima intensity peaks of the successive TEM00 resonances.  相似文献

The spatial correlation of light-generated electrons and holes in a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas in a strong magnetic field is investigated in an approximation linear in the intensity of the exciting light. The correlation is due to the interaction of the electrons and holes with longitudinal optical (LO) phonons. The theory permits calculating, on the basis of a special diagrammatic technique, two distribution functions of an electron-hole pair with respect to the distance between the electron and the hole after the emission of N phonons: first, the function determining the total number of pairs which have emitted N phonons and, second, the function related to the rank-4 light-scattering tensor in interband resonance Raman scattering of light. A special feature of the system is that the electron and hole energy levels are discrete. The calculation is performed for a square quantum well with infinitely high barriers. The distribution function and the total number of electron-hole pairs before the emission of phonons as well as the distribution function corresponding to two-phonon resonance Raman scattering are calculated. The theory predicts the appearance of several close-lying peaks in the excitation spectrum under resonance conditions. The number of peaks is related to the number of the Landau level participating in the optical transition. The distance between peaks is determined by the electron-phonon coupling constant. 能量为200keV的Ag离子,以1×1016,5×1016,1×1017 cm-2的剂量分别注入到非晶SiO2玻璃,光学吸收谱显示:注入剂量为1×1016 cm-2的样品的光吸收谱为洛伦兹曲线,与Mie理论模拟的曲线形状一致;注入剂量较大的5×1016,1×1017 cm-2的谱线共振吸收增强,峰位红移并出现伴峰. 透射电镜观察分析表明,注入剂量不同的样品中形成的纳米颗粒的大小、形状、分布都不同,注入剂量较大的还会产生明显的表面溅射效应,这些因素都会影响共振吸收的峰形、峰位和峰强. 当注入剂量达到1×1017 cm-2时,Ag纳米颗粒内部可能还形成了杂质团簇. 关键词: 离子注入 纳米颗粒 共振吸收 红移  相似文献

Impressive pictures of moving Bose-Einstein condensates have been taken using phase-contrast imaging [M.R. Andrews et al., Science 273, 84 (1996)]. We calculate the quantum backaction of this measurement technique, assuming the absence of residual absorption. We find that the condensate gets gradually depleted at a universal rate that is proportional to the light intensity and to the inverse cube of the optical wave length. The fewer atoms are condensed the higher is the required intensity to see a picture, and, consequently, the higher is the induced backaction. To describe the quantum physics of phase-contrast imaging we put forward a new approach to quantum-optical propagation.
