Some G-M-type Banach spaces and K-groups of operator algebras on them

By providing several new varieties of G-M-type Banach spaces according todecomposable and compoundable properties, this paper discusses the operator structuresof these spaces and the K-theory of the algebra of the operators on these G-M-type Ba-nach spaces through calculation of the K-groups of the operator ideals contained in theclass of Riesz operators.     

On K 0-groups of operator algebras on Banach spaces

This paper merges some classifications of G-M-type Banach spaces simplifically, discusses the condition of K ₀(B(X)) = 0 for operator algebra B(X) on a Banach space X, and obtains a result to improve Laustsen's sufficient condition, gives an example to show that X ≈ X ² is not a sufficient condition of K ₀(B(X)) = 0.     

On K0-groups of operator algebras on Banach spaces

Local automorphisms of operator algebras on Banach spaces

In this paper we extend a result of Semrl stating that every 2-local automorphism of the full operator algebra on a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space is an automorphism. In fact, besides separable Hilbert spaces, we obtain the same conclusion for the much larger class of Banach spaces with Schauder bases. The proof rests on an analogous statement concerning the 2-local automorphisms of matrix algebras for which we present a short proof. The need to get such a proof was formulated in Semrl's paper.

     

On the simplicial cohomology of Banach operator algebras

We investigate the simplicial cohomology of certain Banach operator algebras. The two main examples considered are the Banach algebra of all bounded operators on a Banach space and its ideal of approximable operators. Sufficient conditions will be given forcing Banach algebras of this kind to be simplicially trivial.     

Complementarity problems for multivalued monotone operator in Banach spaces

We utilize S. Park's maximal element theorem in this paper to prove the existence theorems of solutions of the complementarity problems for multivalued monotone operator in Banach spaces.     

An approximation problem of the finite rank operator in Banach spaces

By the method of geometry of Banach spaces, we have proven that a bounded linear operator in Banach space is a compact linear one iff it can be uniformly approximated by a sequence of the finite rank bounded homogeneous operators, which reveals the essence of the counter example given by Enflo.     

On the quest for positivity in operator algebras

We show that in every nonzero operator algebra with a contractive approximate identity (or c.a.i.), there is a nonzero operator T such that ‖I−T‖?1. In fact, there is a c.a.i. consisting of operators T with ‖I−2T‖?1. So, the numerical range of the elements of our contractive approximate identity is contained in the closed disk center and radius . This is the necessarily weakened form of the result for C^?-algebras, where there is always a contractive approximate identity consisting of operators with 0?T?1 - the numerical range is contained in the real interval [0,1]. So, if an operator algebra has a c.a.i., it must have operators with a “certain amount” of positivity.     

Properties of operator stable distributions in infinite-dimensional Banach spaces

The results of this paper concern the connections between different characterizations of operator stable distributions in infinite-dimensional separable Banach spaces. Such assertions are closely related with the strong and uniform operator topology. In particular, the new motions of strongly and uniformlyG-stable distributions are discussed.     

On hypercyclic operators on Banach spaces

We provide in this paper a direct and constructive proof of the following fact: for a Banach space there are bounded linear operators having hypercyclic vectors if and only if is separable and dim. This is a special case of a recent result, which in turn solves a problem proposed by S. Rolewicz.

     

Fixed point theorems of block operator matrices on Banach algebras and an application to functional integral equations

In this paper, we study some fixed point theorems of a 2 × 2 block operator matrix defined on nonempty bounded closed convex subsets of Banach algebras, where the entries are nonlinear operators. Some functional equations on standard operator algebras

The main purpose of this paper is to prove the following result. Let H be a complex Hilbert space, let (H) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H, and let (H) ⊂ (H) be a standard operator algebra which is closed under the adjoint operation. Suppose that T: (H) → (H) is a linear mapping satisfying T(AA* A) = T(A)A* A − AT(A*)A + AA*T(A) for all A ∈ (H). Then T is of the form T(A) = AB + BA for all A ∈ (H), where B is a fixed operator from (H). A result concerning functional equations related to bicircular projections is proved      

On the radical for some class of Banach algebras

Let A be a complex Banach algebra. It is well known that the second dual A** of A can be equipped with a multiplication that extends the original multiplication on A and makes A** a Banach algebra. We show that Rad(A) = ^⊥(A ^* · A) and Rad(A ^**) = (A ^* · A)^⊥ for some classes of Banach algebras A with scattered structure space. Some applications of these results are given.     

On uniform convexity of Banach spaces

This paper gives some relations and properties of several kinds of generalized convexity in Banach spaces. As a result, it proves that every kind of uniform convexity implies the Banach-Sakes property, and several notions of uniform convexity in literature are actually equivalent.     

Evolution semigroups and time operators on Banach spaces

We present new general methods to obtain shift representation of evolution semigroups defined on Banach spaces. We introduce the notion of time operator associated with a generalized shift on a Banach space and give some conditions under which time operators can be defined on an arbitrary Banach space. We also tackle the problem of scaling of time operators and obtain a general result about the existence of time operators on Banach spaces satisfying some geometric conditions. The last part of the paper contains some examples of explicit constructions of time operators on function spaces.     

Weakly compact homomorphisms of regular Banach algebras

Let A be a uniformly regular Ditkin algebra. It is shown that every weakly compact homomorphism of A into a Banach algebra is finite-dimensional.     

Factorizations of EP Banach space operators and EP Banach algebra elements

EP Banach space operators and EP Banach algebra elements are characterized using different kinds of factorizations. The results obtained generalize well-known characterizations of EP matrices, EP Hilbert space operators and EP C^?-algebra elements. Furthermore, new results that hold in these contexts are presented.     

Sufficient conditions for the projective freeness of Banach algebras

Let R be a unital semi-simple commutative complex Banach algebra, and let M(R) denote its maximal ideal space, equipped with the Gelfand topology. Sufficient topological conditions are given on M(R) for R to be a projective free ring, that is, a ring in which every finitely generated projective R-module is free. Several examples are included, notably the Hardy algebra H^∞(X) of bounded holomorphic functions on a Riemann surface of finite type, and also some algebras of stable transfer functions arising in control theory.
