Two-dimensional normal impinging jet flowfields, with or without an upper plate, were analysed by employing an implicit bidiagonal numerical method developed by Lavante and Thompkins Jr. The Jones–Launder K–? two-equation turbulent model was employed to study the turbulent effects of the impinging jet flowfield. The upper plate surface pressure, the ground plane pressure and other physical parameters of the momentum flowfield were calculated at various jet exit height and jet inlet Reynolds numbers. These results were compared with those of Beam and Warming's numerical method, Hsiao and Chuang, and others, along with experimental data. The potential core length of the impinging jet without an upper plate is longer than that of the free jet because of the effects of the ground plane, while the potential core length of the impinging jet with an upper plate is shorter than that of the free jet because of the effects of the upper plate. This phenomenon in the present analysis provides a fundamental numerical study of an impinging jet and a basis for further analysis of impinging jet flowfields on a variable angle plate.  相似文献

The suitability of Wilcox's 2006 kω turbulence model for scramjet flowfield simulations is demonstrated by validation against five test cases that have flowfields representative of those to be expected in scramjets. The five test cases include a 2D flat plate, an axisymmetric cylinder, a backward‐facing step, the mixing of a pair of coaxial jets and the interaction between a shock wave and turbulent boundary layer. A generally good agreement between the numerical and experimental results is obtained for all test cases. These tests reveal that despite the turbulence model's sensitivity to freestream turbulence properties, the numerically predicted skin friction agrees with experimental data and theoretical correlations to their degree of uncertainty. The tests also confirm the importance of using a y+ value of less than 1 in getting accurate surface heat transfer distributions. In the coaxial jets case, the importance of matching the turbulence intensities at the inflow plane in improving the predictions of the turbulent mixing phenomena is also shown. A review of guidelines with regard to the setting up of grids and specification of freestream turbulence properties for turbulent Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes CFD simulations is also included in this paper. Computation results of plane turbulent flows in the vicinity of backward–facing steps with leeward–face angles = 8, 25, and 45° for Mach numbers Minfin = 3 and 4 are presented. The averaged Navier—Stokes equations supplemented by the Wilcox model of turbulence are used as a mathematical model. The boundary–layer equations were also used for the case of an attached flow ( = 8°). The computed and experimental distributions of surface pressure and skin friction, the velocity and pressure fields, and the heat–transfer coefficients are compared.  相似文献

Two-dimensional numerical studies of flow and temperature fields for turbulent natural convection and surface radiation in inclined differentially heated enclosures are performed. Investigations are carried out over a wide range of Rayleigh numbers from 108 to 1012, with the angle of inclination varying between 0° and 90°. Turbulence is modeled with a novel variant of the k–ε closure model. The predicted results are validated against experimental and numerical results reported in literature. The effect of the inclination of the enclosure on pure turbulent natural convection and the latter’s interaction with surface radiation are brought out. Profiles of turbulent kinetic energy and effective viscosity are studied to observe the net effect on the intensity of turbulence caused by the interaction of natural convection and surface radiation. The variations of local Nusselt number and average Nusselt number are presented for various inclination angles. Marked change in the convective Nusselt number is found with the orientation of enclosure. Also analyzed is the influence of change in emissivity on the flow and heat transfer. A correlation relevant to practical applications in the form of average Nusselt number, as a function of Rayleigh number, Ra, radiation convection parameter, N RC and inclination angle of the enclosure, φ is proposed.  相似文献

A numerical investigation for an axisymmetric hypersonic turbulent inlet flow field of a perfect gas is presented for a three-shock configuration consisting of a biconic and a cowl. An upwind parabolized Navier-Stokes solver based on Roe's scheme is used to compute an oncoming flow Mach numberM =8, temperatureT =216 K, and pressureP =5.5293×103 N/m2. In order to assess the flow quantities, the interaction between shock and turbulence, and the inlet efficiency, three different flow calculations — laminar, turbulent with incompressible and compressible two-equationk- turbulence models — have been performed in this work.Computational results show that turbulence is markedly enhanced across an oblique shock with step-like increases in turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation rate. This enhancement is at the expense of the mean kinetic energy of the flow. Therefore, the velocity behind the shock is smaller in turbulent flow and hence the shock becomes stronger. The entropy increase through a shock is caused not only by the amplification of random molecular motion, but also by the enhancement of the chaotic turbulent flow motion. However, only the compressiblek- turbulence model can properly predict a decrease in turbulence length scale across a shock. Our numerical simulation reveals that the incompressiblek- turbulence model exaggerates the interaction between shock and turbulence with turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation rate remaining high and almost undissipated far beyond the shock region. It is shown that proper modeling of turbulence is essential for a realistic prediction of hypersonic inlet flowfield. The performed study shows that the viscous effect is not restricted in the boundary layer but extends into the main flow behind a shock wave. The loss of the available energy in the inlet performance therefore needs to be determined from the shock-turbulence interaction. The present study predicts that the inlet efficiency becomes relatively lower when turbulence is taken into account.  相似文献

Instantaneous planar pressure determination from PIV in turbulent flow   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This paper deals with the determination of instantaneous planar pressure fields from velocity data obtained by particle image velocimetry (PIV) in turbulent flow. The operating principles of pressure determination using a Eulerian or a Lagrangian approach are described together with theoretical considerations on its expected performance. These considerations are verified by a performance assessment on a synthetic flow field. Based on these results, guidelines regarding the temporal and spatial resolution required are proposed. The interrogation window size needs to be 5 times smaller than the flow structures and the acquisition frequency needs to be 10 times higher than the corresponding flow frequency (e.g. Eulerian time scales for the Eulerian approach). To further assess the experimental viability of the pressure evaluation methods, stereoscopic PIV and tomographic PIV experiments on a square cylinder flow (Re D  = 9,500) were performed, employing surface pressure data for validation. The experimental results were found to support the proposed guidelines.

A subgrid scale flame surface density combustion model for the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of premixed combustion is derived and validated. The model is based on fractal characteristics of the flame surface, assuming a self similar wrinkling of the flame between smallest and largest wrinkling length scales. Experimental and direct numerical simulation databases as well as theoretical models are used to derive a model for the fractal parameters, namely the cut-off lengths and the fractal dimension suitable in the LES context. The combustion model is designed with the intent to simulate low as well as high Reynolds number premixed turbulent flame propagation and with a focus on correct scaling with pressure. The combustion model is validated by simulations of turbulent Bunsen flames with methane and propane fuel at pressure levels between 0.1 MPa and 2 MPa and at turbulence levels of $0 < u^{\prime }/s_{L}^{0} < 11$ , conditions typical for spark ignition engines. The predicted turbulent flame speed is in a very good agreement with the experimental data and a smooth transition from resolved flame wrinkling to fully modelled, nearly subgrid-only wrinkling is realized. Evaluating the influence of mesh resolution shows a predicted mean flame surface and turbulent flame speed independent of mesh resolution for cases with 9–86 % resolved flame surface. Additional simulations of a highly turbulent jet flame at 0.1 MPa and 0.5 MPa and the comparison with experimental data in terms of flame shape, velocity field and turbulent fluctuations validates the model also at conditions typical for gas turbines.  相似文献

A progress variable/flame surface density/probability density function method has been employed for a Large Eddy Simulation of a CH4/Air turbulent premixed bluff body flame. In particular, both mean and variance of the progress variable are transported and subgrid spatially filtered gradient contributes to model the flame surface density (that introduces the effect of the subgrid flame reaction zone) and to presume a probability density function (that introduces the effect of subgrid fluctuations on chemistry). Chemistry is preliminarly tabulated in terms of laminar premixed flames and enthalpy is included as a new coordinate in their tabulation to take into account heat losses in the flowfield. Then, the PDF is used to build a turbulent flamelet library. The filtered mass, momentum, enthalpy and scalar equations mentioned above are integrated by an explicit scheme using finite differences, 2nd?Corder accurate in space and third order in time, over a cylindrical non-uniform grid using a staggered mesh. The bluff-body geometry is modelled by using the Immersed Boundary Method. The numerical predictions are compared with the available experimental data.  相似文献

In transonic flow conditions, the shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction and flow separations on wing upper surface induce flow instabilities, ‘buffet’, and then the buffeting (structure vibrations). This phenomenon can greatly influence the aerodynamic performance. These flow excitations are self‐sustained and lead to a surface effort due to pressure fluctuations. They can produce enough energy to excite the structure. The objective of the present work is to predict this unsteady phenomenon correctly by using unsteady Navier–Stokes‐averaged equations with a time‐dependent turbulence model based on the suitable (kε) turbulent eddy viscosity model. The model used is based on the turbulent viscosity concept where the turbulent viscosity coefficient () is related to local deformation and rotation rates. To validate this model, flow over a flat plate at Mach number of 0.6 is first computed, then the flow around a NACA0012 airfoil. The comparison with the analytical and experimental results shows a good agreement. The ONERA OAT15A transonic airfoil was chosen to describe buffeting phenomena. Numerical simulations are done by using a Navier–Stokes SUPG (streamline upwind Petrov–Galerkin) finite‐element solver. Computational results show the ability of the present model to predict physical phenomena of the flow oscillations. The unsteady shock wave/boundary layer interaction is described. Effect of ventilation on the flowfield around a sphere   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The flowfield around a sphere with and without ventilation was investigated in a wind tunnel over a range of Reynolds numbers in an incompressible flow. At supercritical Re, the pressure drag of a sphere can be nearly nullified by venting only 2% of the frontal area of the sphere to the base through a smooth internal duct. The drag reduction is achieved by increased pressures in the separated flow region close to the base. At high Re, the vent flow breaks through the near wake and brings about symmetry in the global flowfield. When the internal shear is increased by using a rough internal duct, the base pressure is unchanged, but the external flow is accelerated to velocities beyond that achieved by the potential flow around the basic sphere. The findings can be explained by a flow model in which the near wake is aerodynamically streamlined by a pair of counterrotating vortex rings at the base. A roughness element can be made to partially destroy the vortex system at the base and result in a steady asymmetric wake. A 1.2 mm diameter wire placed at 70° was found to overtrip the boundary layer and completely destroy the vortex system. Simultaneously, the turbulent separation is advanced and the drag increased. At subcritical Re, ventilation marginally increases static pressures all over the surface. Since the large pressure differential between the windward and leeward sides is not reduced, the internal flow has a rapid acceleration to a velocity close to that of the free stream. The reverse flow associated with the near wake forces the vent flow to rest within itself and the wake profile is unchanged. The main features of subcritical flow around the basic sphere are retained in spite of ventilation. The upstream effects of ventilation are greater for subcritical flow than for supercritical flow. The work reported was carried out under a study grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Bonn. Shock waves drastically alter the nature of Reynolds stresses in a turbulent flow, and conventional turbulence models cannot reproduce this effect. In the present study, we employ explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model (EARSM) to predict the Reynolds stress anisotropy generated by a shockwave. The model by Wallin and Johansson (2000) is used as the baseline model. It is found to over-predict the post-shock Reynolds stresses in canonical shock turbulence interaction. The budget of the transport equation of Reynolds stresses computed using linear interaction analysis shows that the unsteady shock distortion mechanism and the pressure–velocity correlations are important. We propose improvement to the baseline model using linear interaction analysis results and redistribute the turbulent kinetic energy between the principle Reynolds stresses. The new model matches DNS data for the amplification of Reynolds stresses across the shock and their post-shock evolution, for a range of Mach numbers. It is applied to oblique shock/boundary-layer interaction at Mach 5. Significant improvements are observed in predicting surface pressure and skin friction coefficient, with respect to experimental measurements.  相似文献

Supersonic flow past a cylindrical body with a system of transverse jets ejected from its surface at angles of attack α=60–120o is characterized by a complicated gasdynamic flow pattern [1]. The body surface is affected by both the oncoming flow and the ejected jets which shield a portion of the surface from the external flow. This results in considerable transverse and longitudinal pressure gradients appearing on the body surface. The experimental pressure distributions over a cylindrical model with four transverse jets at a Mach number M=4 and α=60°, 90°, and 120° make it possible to study the specific features of the flowfield and derive correlations for the "jet obstacle" dimensions. The paper focuses on the triple jets interaction with a hypersonic external flow on a revolution body. The experimental model is a ogive-cylinder body with three supersonic nozzles, which are aligned along the flow direction. The freestream Mach numbers are 5 and 6. The spatial and surface flow characteristics are illustrated by the schlieren photographs and the typical pressure distribution. The results show that there are multi-wave system, separation, reattachment, multi-peak pressure, high-pressure and low-pressure zone boundaries obvious distinction in tri-jets interference flowfield. The present paper also analyzes how do the pressure ratio, the angle of attack, and Mach number effect on tri-jets interaction characteristics.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation, into the effect of water in diesel and kerosene emulsions, on the evaporation time of a single droplet, on hot surfaces (stainless-steel and aluminum). Experiments are performed at atmospheric pressure, and initial water volume concentrations of 10, 20, 30, and 40%. The wall temperatures ranging from 100–460 °C, to cover the entire spectrum of heat transfer characteristics from evaporation to film boiling. Results show that, qualitatively, the shapes of emulsion evaporation curves are very similar to that of pure liquids. Quantitavely, there are significant differences. The total evaporation time, for the emulsion droplets is lower than that for diesel and kerosene fuels, and decreased as water initial concentration increases, up to surface temperatures less than the critical temperature. The value of the critical surface temperature (maximum heat transfer rate), decreases as initial concentration of water increases. In the film-boiling region, the evaporation time for the emulsion droplets is higher than for diesel and kerosene droplets, at identical conditions.List of Symbols hfg latent heat of vaporization, KJ/kg - m mass of the droplet, gm - Tb boiling temperature, °C - Tc critical temperature, °C - TL Leidenfrost temperature, °C - Ts initial surface temperature of the hot surface, °C  相似文献

Near-wall pressure fluctuations in turbulent flows are of considerable interest in many engineering applications. We shall concentrate on a number of specific questions related to the resolution of components of wall pressure spectra. Our emphasis shall be on outstanding problems of turbulent pressure fluctuations in the presence of vibration. A study on the interaction of a transducer with wall vibration resulting from near-wall turbulent flows has been performed. Three methods are described for the study of spectral components of turbulent surface pressure in conditions of flow-induced vibration: the method of separation of turbulent and vibration signals; the method of a vibration-proof turbulent pressure transducer; and a modified method of vibration suppression. A method of low-frequency acoustic-noise suppression is also suggested.  相似文献

Supersonic flow with M=3 and P0=1.2 MPa past cylindrical obstacles located in the plane of symmetry at the edges of exterior and interior dihedrals at a distance 0=140 mm from the leading edge of a model consisting of two intersecting flat sharp-edged plates is investigated in the presence of a turbulent boundary layer on the faces of the dihedral. The linear angle of the model dihedral was varied discretely from 45 to 310°. Interchangeable cylinders with diameters d=16 and 10 mm and variable height h=0–64 mm were used. The models were tapped along the axis of symmetry and rays starting from the center of the cylinder base and inclined to the edge of the model at angles = 30, 60, and 90°. The pressure was measured with IKD transducers. The results of the measurements were processed on a IVK-1 computer system. The flow past the model was photographed with a Töpler schlieren instrument. Before the experiment the surface of the model was coated with a carbon-oil solution. After the experiment the distribution of the visualizing composition was photographed and the dimensions of the region of separated flow near the obstacle were measured.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 181–184, September–October, 1989.  相似文献

Results of experimental study on DDT in a smooth tube filled with sensitive mixtures having detonation cell size from 1 to 3 orders of magnitude smaller than the tube diameter are presented. Stoichiometric hydrogen–oxygen mixtures were used in the tests with initial pressure ranging from 0.2 to 8 bar. A dependence of the run-up distance to DDT on the initial pressure is studied. This dependence is found to be close to the inverse proportionality. It is suggested that the flow ahead of the flame results in formation of the turbulent boundary layer. This boundary layer controls the scale of turbulent motions in the flow. A simple model to estimate the maximum scale of the turbulent pulsations (boundary layer thickness) at flame positions along the tube is presented. The largest scale of the turbulent motions at the location of the onset of detonation is shown to be 1 order of magnitude greater than the detonation cell widths, λ, in all the tests. It is suggested that the onset of detonation is triggered during flame acceleration as soon as the maximum scale of the turbulent pulsations increases up to about 10 λ. The model to estimate the maximum size of turbulent motions, δ, and the correlation δ≈ 10λ, give a basis for estimations of the run-up distances to DDT in tubes with internal diameter D > 20λ. Here we implemented a 3D comprehensive Eulerian-Lagrangian model in order to investigate the electrostatic spray transfer processes in the high-speed rotary bell sprayer. This efficient algorithm contains spray dynamics, airflow, paint droplets tracking and an electrostatic effect to simulate atomization. The algorithm is implemented using the OpenFOAM package. A solver for the particle trajectory was used to illustrate the process of spray transport and also the interaction of the airflow and the particle that is solved by momentum coupling. Creating an initial condition of the particle approach has been proposed that is matched with practical applications. The fluid-dynamics is simulated by solving the unsteady 3D compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Unsteady flow is computed by using a Large eddy simulation (LES) turbulence approach, while the motion of the particles is simulated by tracking the droplet size distribution approach. The model correctly predicts that the bell cup spin forces the paint particles to fall off from the bell surface towards the high-velocity airflow. The present work illustrates a tentative benchmark and contains a systematic analysis of the recirculation zone length, the toroidal vortex, the overspray phenomena and the flowfield characteristics like mean velocity, pressure, turbulent kinetic energy and velocity fluctuation. The results indicate as dominant operating parameter the air-paint flow rate with voltage level deeply affecting the spray shape. A more uniform distribution of the coating is obtained by growing this high-velocity shaping airflow, although the values of the transfer efficiency (TE) are reduced. The distribution of the particle size is very sensitive to changes in the rotational speed. Experimental results obtained in this study put forward a clear link between the shaping air flow rate and the rotation frequency on the aerodynamics and also provide valuable insights to design modern ERBS. The paint spray distribution obtained in the present work is validated against coating experimental results with suitable accuracy.  相似文献

The present work aims to investigate numerically the flowfield and heat transfer process in gas-solid suspension in a vertical pneumatic conveying pipe. The Eulerian-Lagrangian model is used to simulate the flow of the two-phases. The gas phase is simulated based on Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) with low Reynolds number k-ε model, while particle tracking procedure is used for the solid phase. An anisotropic model is used to calculate the Reynolds stresses and the turbulent Prandtl number is calculated as a function of the turbulent viscosity. The model takes into account the lift and drag forces and the effect of particle rotation as well as the particles dispersion by turbulence effect. The effects of inter-particles collisions and turbulence modulation by the solid particles, i.e. four-way coupling, are also included in the model. Comparisons between different models for turbulence modulation with experimental data are carried out to select the best model. The model is validated against published experimental data for velocities of the two phases, turbulence intensity, solids concentration, pressure drop, heat transfer rates and Nusselt number distribution. The comparisons indicate that the present model is able to predict the complex interaction between the two phases in non-isothermal gas-solid flow in the tested range. The results indicate that the particle-particle collision, turbulence dispersion and lift force play a key role in the concentration distribution. In addition, the heat transfer rate increases as the mass loading ratio increases and Nusselt number increases as the pipe diameter increases.  相似文献
