In this Letter, the exp-function method is used to obtain generalized solitary solutions and periodic solutions of the general types of combined KdV-Burgers equation with variable coefficients. It is shown that the exp-function method via symbolic computation provides a straightforward and powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear evolution equations with variable coefficients in mathematical physics.  相似文献

In this article we find the exact traveling wave solutions of the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation with variable coefficients using three methods via the generalized extended tanh-function method, the sine-cosine method and the exp-function method. An extended mapping method with a computerized symbolic computation is used for constructing a new exact travelling wave solutions for nonlinear evolution equations arising in physics, namely, generalized Zakharov Kuznetsov equation with variable coefficients. As a result, many exact travelling wave solutions are obtained which include new periodic wave solution, trigonometric function solutions and rational solutions. The method is straightforward and concise, and it can also be applied to other nonlinear evolution equations with variable coefficients arising in mathematical physics. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple and efficient spectral method for solving the second, third order and fourth order elliptic equations with variable coefficients and nonlinear differential equations is presented. It is different from spectral-collocation method which leads to dense, ill-conditioned matrices. The spectral method in this paper solves for the coefficients of the solution in a Chebyshev series, leads to discrete systems with special structured matrices which can be factorized and solved efficiently. We also extend the method to boundary value problems in two space dimensions and solve 2-D separable equation with variable coefficients. As an application, we solve Cahn-Hilliard equation iteratively via first-order implicit time discretization scheme. Ample numerical results indicate that the proposed method is extremely accurate and efficient.  相似文献

According to Ma-Fuchsseiter’s idea, a trial equation method was proposed to find the exact envelop traveling wave solutions to some nonlinear differential equations with variable coefficients. As an application, combining with the complete discrimination system for polynomial, some exact envelop traveling wave solutions to Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients were obtained. At the same time, the physical meanings of the obtained solutions are discussed, and the problem needed to further study is pointed out.  相似文献

By using solutions of an ordinary differential equation, an auxiliary equation method is described to seek exact solutions of nonlinear evolution equations with variable coefficients. Being concise and straightforward, this method is applied to the mKdV equation with variable coefficients. We aim at demonstrating a novel theorem on the derivation of energy integrals for linear second-order ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. Namely, in this context, we will present a possible and consistent method to overcome the traditional difficulty of deriving energy integrals for Lagrangian functions that explicitly exhibit the independent variable. Our theorem is such that it appropriately governs the arbitrariness of the variable coefficients in order to have energy integrals ensured. In view of the theoretical framework in which the theorem will be embedded, we will also demonstrate that it can be applied as a mathematical method to solve linear second-order ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. In this paper, we apply the exp-function method to construct generalized solitary and periodic solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. The proposed technique is tested on the modified Zakharov-Kuznetsov (ZK) and Zakharov-Kuznetsov-Modified-Equal-Width (ZK-MEW) equations. These equations play a very important role in mathematical physics and engineering sciences. The suggested algorithm is quite efficient and is practically well suited for use in these problems.
