A graph is vertex‐transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on vertices of the graph. A vertex‐transitive graph is a Cayley graph if its automorphism group contains a subgroup acting regularly on its vertices. In this article, the tetravalent vertex‐transitive non‐Cayley graphs of order 4p are classified for each prime p. As a result, there are one sporadic and five infinite families of such graphs, of which the sporadic one has order 20, and one infinite family exists for every prime p>3, two families exist if and only if p≡1 (mod 8) and the other two families exist if and only if p≡1 (mod 4). For each family there is a unique graph for a given order. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A graph of order n is p ‐factor‐critical, where p is an integer of the same parity as n, if the removal of any set of p vertices results in a graph with a perfect matching. 1‐factor‐critical graphs and 2‐factor‐critical graphs are factor‐critical graphs and bicritical graphs, respectively. It is well known that every connected vertex‐transitive graph of odd order is factor‐critical and every connected nonbipartite vertex‐transitive graph of even order is bicritical. In this article, we show that a simple connected vertex‐transitive graph of odd order at least five is 3‐factor‐critical if and only if it is not a cycle.  相似文献

A classification of connected vertex‐transitive cubic graphs of square‐free order is provided. It is shown that such graphs are well‐characterized metacirculants (including dihedrants, generalized Petersen graphs, Möbius bands), or Tutte's 8‐cage, or graphs arisen from simple groups PSL(2, p).  相似文献

A graph is vertex?transitive or symmetric if its automorphism group acts transitively on vertices or ordered adjacent pairs of vertices of the graph, respectively. Let G be a finite group and S a subset of G such that 1?S and S={s?1 | sS}. The Cayleygraph Cay(G, S) on G with respect to S is defined as the graph with vertex set G and edge set {{g, sg} | gG, sS}. Feng and Kwak [J Combin Theory B 97 (2007), 627–646; J Austral Math Soc 81 (2006), 153–164] classified all cubic symmetric graphs of order 4p or 2p2 and in this article we classify all cubic symmetric graphs of order 2pq, where p and q are distinct odd primes. Furthermore, a classification of all cubic vertex‐transitive non‐Cayley graphs of order 2pq, which were investigated extensively in the literature, is given. As a result, among others, a classification of cubic vertex‐transitive graphs of order 2pq can be deduced. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 65: 285–302, 2010  相似文献

Let X be a vertex‐transitive graph, that is, the automorphism group Aut(X) of X is transitive on the vertex set of X. The graph X is said to be symmetric if Aut(X) is transitive on the arc set of X. suppose that Aut(X) has two orbits of the same length on the arc set of X. Then X is said to be half‐arc‐transitive or half‐edge‐transitive if Aut(X) has one or two orbits on the edge set of X, respectively. Stabilizers of symmetric and half‐arc‐transitive graphs have been investigated by many authors. For example, see Tutte [Canad J Math 11 (1959), 621–624] and Conder and Maru?i? [J Combin Theory Ser B 88 (2003), 67–76]. It is trivial to construct connected tetravalent symmetric graphs with arbitrarily large stabilizers, and by Maru?i? [Discrete Math 299 (2005), 180–193], connected tetravalent half‐arc‐transitive graphs can have arbitrarily large stabilizers. In this article, we show that connected tetravalent half‐edge‐transitive graphs can also have arbitrarily large stabilizers. A Cayley graph Cay(G, S) on a group G is said to be normal if the right regular representation R(G) of G is normal in Aut(Cay(G, S)). There are only a few known examples of connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs on non‐abelian simple groups. In this article, we give a sufficient condition for non‐normal Cayley graphs and by using the condition, infinitely many connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs are constructed. As an application, all connected tetravalent non‐normal Cayley graphs on the alternating group A6 are determined. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory  相似文献

Non‐CI self‐complementary circulant graphs of prime‐squared order are constructed and enumerated. It is shown that for prime p, there exists a self‐complementary circulant graph of order p2 not Cayley isomorphic to its complement if and only if p ≡ 1 (mod 8). Such graphs are also enumerated. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Graph Theory 34: 128–141, 2000  相似文献

For a positive integer n, does there exist a vertex-transitive graph Γ on n vertices which is not a Cayley graph, or, equivalently, a graph Γ on n vertices such that Aut Γ is transitive on vertices but none of its subgroups are regular on vertices? Previous work (by Alspach and Parsons, Frucht, Graver and Watkins, Marusic and Scapellato, and McKay and the second author) has produced answers to this question if n is prime, or divisible by the square of some prime, or if n is the product of two distinct primes. In this paper we consider the simplest unresolved case for even integers, namely for integers of the form n = 2pq, where 2 < q < p, and p and q are primes. We give a new construction of an infinite family of vertex-transitive graphs on 2pq vertices which are not Cayley graphs in the case where p ≡ 1 (mod q). Further, if p ? 1 (mod q), pq ≡ 3(mod 4), and if every vertex-transitive graph of order pq is a Cayley graph, then it is shown that, either 2pq = 66, or every vertex-transitive graph of order 2pq admitting a transitive imprimitive group of automorphisms is a Cayley graph.  相似文献

The Petersen graph on 10 vertices is the smallest example of a vertex-transitive graph that is not a Cayley graph. In 1983, D. Marus˘ic˘ asked, “For what values of n does there exist such a graph on n vertices?” We give several new constructions of families of vertex-transitive graphs that are not Cayley graphs and complete the proof that, if n is divisible by p2 for some prime p, then there is a vertex-transitive graph on n vertices that is not a Cayley graph unless n is p2, p3, or 12. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Let n be an integer and q be a prime power. Then for any 3 ≤ nq?1, or n=2 and q odd, we construct a connected q‐regular edge‐but not vertex‐transitive graph of order 2qn+1. This graph is defined via a system of equations over the finite field of q elements. For n=2 and q=3, our graph is isomorphic to the Gray graph. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Partial cubes are graphs isometrically embeddable into hypercubes. In this article, it is proved that every cubic, vertex‐transitive partial cube is isomorphic to one of the following graphs: , for , the generalized Petersen graph G (10, 3), the cubic permutahedron, the truncated cuboctahedron, or the truncated icosidodecahedron. This classification is a generalization of results of Bre?ar et  al. (Eur J Combin 25 (2004), 55–64) on cubic mirror graphs; it includes all cubic, distance‐regular partial cubes (P. M. Weichsel, Discrete Math 109 (1992), 297–306), and presents a contribution to the classification of all cubic partial cubes.  相似文献

An undirected graph without isolated vertices is said to be semisymmetric if its full automorphism group acts transitively on its edge set but not on its vertex set. In this paper, we inquire the existence of connected semisymmetric cubic graphs of order 16p 2. It is shown that for every odd prime p, there exists a semisymmetric cubic graph of order 16p 2 and its structure is explicitly specified by giving the corresponding voltage rules generating the covering projections.  相似文献

A graph r is said to be G-semisymmetric if it is regular and there exists a subgroup G of A := Aut(Г) acting transitively on its edge set but not on its vertex set. In the case of G. = A, we call r a semisymmetric graph. The aim of this paper is to investigate (G-)semisymmetric graphs of prime degree. We give a group-theoretical construction of such graphs, and give a classification of semisymmetric cubic graphs of order 6p2 for an odd prime p.  相似文献

Let G be a connected graph with odd girth 2κ+1. Then G is a (2κ+1)‐angulated graph if every two vertices of G are connected by a path such that each edge of the path is in some (2κ+1)‐cycle. We prove that if G is (2κ+1)‐angulated, and H is connected with odd girth at least 2κ+3, then any retract of the box (or Cartesian) product GH is ST where S is a retract of G and T is a connected subgraph of H. A graph G is strongly (2κ+1)‐angulated if any two vertices of G are connected by a sequence of (2κ+1)‐cycles with consecutive cycles sharing at least one edge. We prove that if G is strongly (2κ+1)‐angulated, and H is connected with odd girth at least 2κ+1, then any retract of GH is ST where S is a retract of G and T is a connected subgraph of H or |V(S)|=1 and T is a retract of H. These two results improve theorems on weakly and strongly triangulated graphs by Nowakowski and Rival [Disc Math 70 ( 13 ), 169–184]. As a corollary, we get that the core of the box product of two strongly (2κ+1)‐angulated cores must be either one of the factors or the box product itself. Furthermore, if G is a strongly (2κ+1)‐angulated core, then either Gn is a core for all positive integers n, or the core of Gn is G for all positive integers n. In the latter case, G is homomorphically equivalent to a normal Cayley graph [Larose, Laviolette, Tardiff, European J Combin 19 ( 12 ), 867–881]. In particular, let G be a strongly (2κ+1)‐angulated core such that either G is not vertex‐transitive, or G is vertex‐transitive and any two maximum independent sets have non‐empty intersection. Then Gn is a core for any positive integer n. On the other hand, let Gi be a (2κi+1)‐angulated core for 1 ≤ in where κ1 < κ2 < … < κn. If Gi has a vertex that is fixed under any automorphism for 1 ≤ in‐1, or Gi is vertex‐transitive such that any two maximum independent sets have non‐empty intersection for 1 ≤ in‐1, then □i=1n Gi is a core. We then apply the results to construct cores that are box products with Mycielski construction factors or with odd graph factors. We also show that K(r,2r+1) □ C2l+1 is a core for any integers lr ≥ 2. It is open whether K(r,2r+1) □ C2l+1 is a core for r > l ≥ 2. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory  相似文献

For all integers n ≥ 5, it is shown that the graph obtained from the n‐cycle by joining vertices at distance 2 has a 2‐factorization is which one 2‐factor is a Hamilton cycle, and the other is isomorphic to any given 2‐regular graph of order n. This result is used to prove several results on 2‐factorizations of the complete graph Kn of order n. For example, it is shown that for all odd n ≥ 11, Kn has a 2‐factorization in which three of the 2‐factors are isomorphic to any three given 2‐regular graphs of order n, and the remaining 2‐factors are Hamilton cycles. For any two given 2‐regular graphs of even order n, the corresponding result is proved for the graph KnI obtained from the complete graph by removing the edges of a 1‐factor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A noncomplete graph Γ is said to be (G, 2)‐distance transitive if G is a subgroup of the automorphism group of Γ that is transitive on the vertex set of Γ, and for any vertex u of Γ, the stabilizer is transitive on the sets of vertices at distances 1 and 2 from u. This article investigates the family of (G, 2)‐distance transitive graphs that are not (G, 2)‐arc transitive. Our main result is the classification of such graphs of valency not greater than 5. We also prove several results about (G, 2)‐distance transitive, but not (G, 2)‐arc transitive graphs of girth 4.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new technique for obtaining cycle decompositions of complete equipartite graphs from cycle decompositions of related multigraphs. We use this technique to prove that if n, m and λ are positive integers with n ≥ 3, λ≥ 3 and n and λ both odd, then the complete equipartite graph having n parts of size m admits a decomposition into cycles of length λ2 whenever nm ≥ λ2 and λ divides m. As a corollary, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the decomposition of any complete equipartite graph into cycles of length p2, where p is prime. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
