Denoising has to do with estimating a signal \(\mathbf {x}_0\) from its noisy observations \(\mathbf {y}=\mathbf {x}_0+\mathbf {z}\). In this paper, we focus on the “structured denoising problem,” where the signal \(\mathbf {x}_0\) possesses a certain structure and \(\mathbf {z}\) has independent normally distributed entries with mean zero and variance \(\sigma ^2\). We employ a structure-inducing convex function \(f(\cdot )\) and solve \(\min _\mathbf {x}\{\frac{1}{2}\Vert \mathbf {y}-\mathbf {x}\Vert _2^2+\sigma {\lambda }f(\mathbf {x})\}\) to estimate \(\mathbf {x}_0\), for some \(\lambda >0\). Common choices for \(f(\cdot )\) include the \(\ell _1\) norm for sparse vectors, the \(\ell _1-\ell _2\) norm for block-sparse signals and the nuclear norm for low-rank matrices. The metric we use to evaluate the performance of an estimate \(\mathbf {x}^*\) is the normalized mean-squared error \(\text {NMSE}(\sigma )=\frac{{\mathbb {E}}\Vert \mathbf {x}^*-\mathbf {x}_0\Vert _2^2}{\sigma ^2}\). We show that NMSE is maximized as \(\sigma \rightarrow 0\) and we find the exact worst-case NMSE, which has a simple geometric interpretation: the mean-squared distance of a standard normal vector to the \({\lambda }\)-scaled subdifferential \({\lambda }\partial f(\mathbf {x}_0)\). When \({\lambda }\) is optimally tuned to minimize the worst-case NMSE, our results can be related to the constrained denoising problem \(\min _{f(\mathbf {x})\le f(\mathbf {x}_0)}\{\Vert \mathbf {y}-\mathbf {x}\Vert _2\}\). The paper also connects these results to the generalized LASSO problem, in which one solves \(\min _{f(\mathbf {x})\le f(\mathbf {x}_0)}\{\Vert \mathbf {y}-{\mathbf {A}}\mathbf {x}\Vert _2\}\) to estimate \(\mathbf {x}_0\) from noisy linear observations \(\mathbf {y}={\mathbf {A}}\mathbf {x}_0+\mathbf {z}\). We show that certain properties of the LASSO problem are closely related to the denoising problem. In particular, we characterize the normalized LASSO cost and show that it exhibits a “phase transition” as a function of number of observations. We also provide an order-optimal bound for the LASSO error in terms of the mean-squared distance. Our results are significant in two ways. First, we find a simple formula for the performance of a general convex estimator. Secondly, we establish a connection between the denoising and linear inverse problems.  相似文献

Using concentration-compactness principle and the mountain pass lemma due to Kajikiya [23], we show the existence of infinitely many solutions which tend to be zero provided that \(\lambda \) belongs to a suitable range.

This paper is concerned with the existence of positive solution to a class of singular fourth order elliptic equation of Kirchhoff type

under Navier boundary conditions, \(u=\triangle u=0\). Here \(\varOmega \subset {\mathbf {R}}^N\), \(N\ge 1\) is a bounded \(C^4\)-domain, \(0\in \varOmega \), h(x) and k(x) are positive continuous functions, \(\gamma \in (0,1)\), \(\alpha \in (0,1)\) and \(M:{\mathbf {R}}^+\rightarrow {\mathbf {R}}^+\) is a continuous function. By using Galerkin method and sharp angle lemma, we will show that this problem has a positive solution for \(\lambda > \frac{\mu }{\mu ^*m_0}\) and \(0<\mu <\mu ^*\). Here \(\mu ^*=\Big (\frac{N(N-4)}{4}\Big )^2\) is the best constant in the Hardy inequality. Besides, if \(\mu =0\), \(\lambda >0\) and hk are Lipschitz functions, we show that this problem has a positive smooth solution. If \(h,k\in C^{2,\,\theta _0}(\overline{\varOmega })\) for some \(\theta _0\in (0,1)\), then this problem has a positive classical solution.

This paper first shows that the Riemann localisation property holds for the Fourier-Laplace series partial sum for sufficiently smooth functions on the two-dimensional sphere, but does not hold for spheres of higher dimension. By Riemann localisation on the sphere \(\mathbb {S}^{d}\subset \mathbb {R}^{d+1}\), \(d\ge 2\), we mean that for a suitable subset X of \(\mathbb {L}_{p}(\mathbb {S}^{d})\), \(1\le p\le \infty \), the \(\mathbb {L}_{p}\)-norm of the Fourier local convolution of \(f\in X\) converges to zero as the degree goes to infinity. The Fourier local convolution of f at \(\mathbf {x}\in \mathbb {S}^{d}\) is the Fourier convolution with a modified version of f obtained by replacing values of f by zero on a neighbourhood of \(\mathbf {x}\). The failure of Riemann localisation for \(d>2\) can be overcome by considering a filtered version: we prove that for a sphere of any dimension and sufficiently smooth filter the corresponding local convolution always has the Riemann localisation property. Key tools are asymptotic estimates of the Fourier and filtered kernels.  相似文献

We extend previous work on standard two-parameter Jordan partitions by Barry (Commun Algebra 43:4231–4246, 2015) to three parameters. Let \(J_r\) denote an \(r \times r\) matrix with minimal polynomial \((t-1)^r\) over a field F of characteristic p. For positive integers \(n_1\), \(n_2\), and \(n_3\) satisfying \(n_1 \le n_2 \le n_3\), the Jordan canonical form of the \(n_1 n_2 n_3 \times n_1 n_2 n_3\) matrix \(J_{n_1} \otimes J_{n_2} \otimes J_{n_3}\) has the form \(J_{\lambda _1} \oplus J_{\lambda _2} \oplus \cdots \oplus J_{\lambda _m}\) where \(\lambda _1 \ge \lambda _2 \ge \cdots \ge \lambda _m>0\) and \(\sum _{i=1}^m \lambda _i=n_1 n_2 n_3\). The partition \(\lambda (n_1,n_2,n_3:p)=(\lambda _1, \lambda _2,\ldots , \lambda _m)\) of \(n_1 n_2 n_3\), which depends on \(n_1\), \(n_2\), \(n_3\), and p, will be called a Jordan partition. We show that if \(n\ge 3\) and \(u\in C^{2}(\mathbb {B}^{n},{\mathbb R}^n) \cap C(\overline{\mathbb {B}^{n}},{\mathbb R}^n )\) is a solution to the hyperbolic Poisson equation, then it has the representation \(u=P_{h}[\phi ]-G_{ h}[\psi ]\) provided that \(u\mid _{\mathbb {S}^{n-1}}=\phi \) and \(\int _{\mathbb {B}^{n}}(1-|x|^{2})^{n-1} |\psi (x)|\,d\tau (x)<\infty \). Here \(P_{h}\) and \(G_{h}\) denote Poisson and Green integrals with respect to \(\Delta _{h}\), respectively. Furthermore, we prove that functions of the form \(u=P_{h}[\phi ]-G_{h}[\psi ]\) are Lipschitz continuous.

This article studies a variation of the standard compressive sensing problem, in which sparse vectors \(\mathbf{x}\in\mathbb{R}^{N}\) are acquired through inaccurate saturated measurements \(\mathbf{y}= \mathcal{S}(\mathbf {A}\mathbf{x}+ \mathbf{e}) \in\mathbb{R}^{m}\), \(m \ll N\). The saturation function \(\mathcal{S}\) acts componentwise by sending entries that are large in absolute value to plus-or-minus a threshold while keeping the other entries unchanged. The present study focuses on the effect of the presaturation error \(\mathbf{e}\in\mathbb{R}^{m}\). The existing theory for accurate saturated measurements, i.e., the case \(\mathbf{e}= \mathbf{0}\), which exhibits two regimes depending on the magnitude of \(\mathbf{x}\in\mathbb {R}^{N}\), is extended here. A recovery procedure based on convex optimization is proposed and shown to be robust to presaturation error in both regimes. Another procedure ignoring the presaturation error is also analyzed and shown to be robust in the small magnitude regime.  相似文献

We provide a tractable criterion for assessing whether, for any positive, non-decreasing function \(f, \mathbb P(\mathscr {E}_f)=\mathbb P(X_{r:n}(t) > f(t)\, \text { i.o.})\) equals 0 or 1. Using this criterion we find, for a family of functions \(f_p(t)\) such that \(z_p(t)=\mathbb P(\sup _{s\in [0,1]}X_{r:n}(s)>f_p(t))=O((t\log ^{1-p} t)^{-1})\), that \(\mathbb P(\mathscr {E}_{f_p})= 1_{\{p\ge 0\}}\). We study the transition density of a standard two-dimensional Brownian motion killed when hitting a bounded Borel set A. We derive the asymptotic form of the density, say \(p^A_t(\mathbf{x},\mathbf{y})\), for large times t and for \(\mathbf{x}\) and \(\mathbf{y}\) in the exterior of A valid uniformly under the constraint \(|\mathbf{x}|\vee |\mathbf{y}| =O(t)\). Within the parabolic regime \(|\mathbf{x}|\vee |\mathbf{y}| = O(\sqrt{t})\) in particular \(p^A_t(\mathbf{x},\mathbf{y})\) is shown to behave like \(4e_A(\mathbf{x})e_A(\mathbf{y}) (\lg t)^{-2} p_t(\mathbf{y}-\mathbf{x})\) for large t, where \(p_t(\mathbf{y}-\mathbf{x})\) is the transition kernel of the Brownian motion (without killing) and \(e_A\) is the Green function for the ‘exterior of A’ with a pole at infinity normalized so that \(e_A(\mathbf{x}) \sim \lg |\mathbf{x}|\). We consider the positive solutions of the nonlinear eigenvalue problem \(-\Delta _{\mathbb {H}^n} u = \lambda u + u^p, \) with \(p=\frac{n+2}{n-2}\) and \(u \in H_0^1(\Omega ),\) where \(\Omega \) is a geodesic ball of radius \(\theta _1\) on \(\mathbb {H}^n.\) For radial solutions, this equation can be written as an ordinary differential equation having n as a parameter. In this setting, the problem can be extended to consider real values of n. Consistent reconstruction is a method for producing an estimate \(\widetilde{x} \in {\mathbb {R}}^d\) of a signal \(x\in {\mathbb {R}}^d\) if one is given a collection of \(N\) noisy linear measurements \(q_n = \langle x, \varphi _n \rangle + \epsilon _n\), \(1 \le n \le N\), that have been corrupted by i.i.d. uniform noise \(\{\epsilon _n\}_{n=1}^N\). We prove mean-squared error bounds for consistent reconstruction when the measurement vectors \(\{\varphi _n\}_{n=1}^N\subset {\mathbb {R}}^d\) are drawn independently at random from a suitable distribution on the unit-sphere \({\mathbb {S}}^{d-1}\). Our main results prove that the mean-squared error (MSE) for consistent reconstruction is of the optimal order \({\mathbb {E}}\Vert x - \widetilde{x}\Vert ^2 \le K\delta ^2/N^2\) under general conditions on the measurement vectors. We also prove refined MSE bounds when the measurement vectors are i.i.d. uniformly distributed on the unit-sphere \({\mathbb {S}}^{d-1}\) and, in particular, show that in this case, the constant \(K\) is dominated by \(d^3\), the cube of the ambient dimension.
