Some examples of elastoplastic constitutive equation are presented using the general theory reported in the preceding paper (Part I). Some examinations of them are given to show that the theory is self-consistent and useful especially for anisotropic materials or materials with anisotropy resulting from plastic deformation. Mises' and Yoshimura's yield functions and a kind of quadratic function are adopted as the yield function. Formulae of r-value after arbitrary pre-straining are given which are of paramount importance in the field of press-forming of sheet metals. Several examples of stress-strain curves for various loading paths are also given.  相似文献

The predictions of three constitutive theories of viscoplasticity are compared in uniaxial homogeneous reversed loading. Previously each theory has been fitted to the same set of tensile data (E.P. Cernocky, Technical Report, University of Colorado, 1981), and here both analytical and numerical methods are used to highlight similarities and differences in the predictions of the theories.None of the theories use yield surfaces, and unloading is shown to be both inelastic and rate-dependent. Suitable combinations of strain- (stress-) rates are shown to produce unloading which appears elastic. Relaxation is examined in the unloading region, and the responses of the theories are shown to be qualitatively different. A bias is shown to exist between each theory's prediction in stress- and strain- control. A new cyclic test is demonstrated which highlights differences in the history-dependence modeled by the theories, and they are shown to have different memories for the same prior plastic deformations.  相似文献

In the present study, the initial and subsequent yield surfaces in Al 6061-T6511, based on 10 με deviation from linearity definition of yield, are presented. The subsequent yield surfaces are determined during tension, free end torsion, and combined tension–torsion proportional loading paths after reaching different levels of strains. The yield surfaces are also obtained after linear, bi-linear and non-linear unloading paths after finite plastic deformation. The initial yield surface is very close to the von-Mises yield surface and the subsequent yield surfaces undergo translation and distortion. In the case of this low work hardening material, the size of the yield surfaces is smaller and negative cross-effect is observed with finite plastic deformation. The subsequent yield have a usual “nose” in the loading direction and flattened shape in the reverse loading direction; the observed nose is more dominant in the case of tension and combined tension–torsion loading than in torsional loading. The size of the yield surfaces after unloading is smaller than the initial yield surface but larger than subsequent yield surfaces obtained during prior loading, show much smaller cross-effect, and the shape of these yield surfaces depends strongly on the loading and unloading paths. Elastic constants (Young’s and shear moduli) are also measured within each subsequent yield surfaces. Evolution of these constants with finite deformation is also presented. The decrease of the two moduli is found to be much smaller than reported earlier in tension by Cleveland and Ghosh [Cleveland, R.M., Ghosh, A.K., 2002. Inelastic effects on springback in metals. Int. J. Plast. 18, 769–785]. Part-II and III [(Khan et al., 2009a) and (Khan et al., 2009b)] of the papers will include experimental results on annealed 1100 Al (a very high work hardening material) and on both Al alloys (Al6061-T6511 and annealed 1100 Al) in tension- tension stress space, respectively. The results for both cases are quite different than the ones that are presented in this paper.  相似文献

Subsequent yield surfaces for aluminum alloys are determined for three proportional loading paths (i.e., axial, hoop, and combined hoop and axial stress) using 10 με deviation from linearity as the definition of yield. This paper is in continuation with Parts I and II of the author’s previous papers on subsequent yield surfaces under tension–torsion (σ11–√3σ12) stress space using similar small offset definition of yield. In the current paper comprehensive experimental results on subsequent yield surfaces under tension–tension (σ11σ22) stress space are presented. Comparison of subsequent yield surfaces under (σ11–√3σ12) stress space, investigated in the earlier papers, clearly indicated distinctive hardening behavior under various loading paths. However, subsequent yield surfaces for Al 6061–T 6511 (a low work hardening alloy) showed contraction and negative cross-effect with finite deformation as compared to the annealed 1100 Al (a high work hardening alloy) where expansion and positive cross-effect was observed.  相似文献

A Modified version of the Dugdale-Bilby-Cottrell-Swinden (DBCS) model simulating the effect of plasticity at the tip of a crack in an infinite region was used by kfouri and rice (1978) to calculate the crack separation energy-rate GΔ corresponding to a finite crack growth step Δa during plane strain mode I crack extension. The loading consisted of a remote uniaxial tension σp applied normally to the plane of the crack. Using Rice's path-independent integral J to characterize the applied load in the crack tip region, and assuming the length R of the crack tip plastic zone to be small compared with the length of the crack, an analytical expression was derived relating the ratios (J/GΔ) and (2a/R) for small values of (2a/R). The analytical solution was incomplete in itself in that the value assumed in the plastic region of the DBCS model for the normal stress Y acting on the extending crack surfaces was the product of the yield stress in uniaxial tension σY and an unknown parameter C, the value of which depends on the effect of the local hydrostatic stresses in the case of plane strain conditions. The analytical solution was compared with a numerical solution obtained from a plane strain elastic-plastic finite element analysis on a centre-cracked plate (CCP) of material obeying the von Mises yield criterion. The value used for the yield stress was 310 MN/m2 and moderate isotropic linear hardening was applied with a tangent modulus of 4830 MN/m2. A uniaxial tension σp was applied on the two appropriate sides of the plate. The comparisons showed that the analytical and finite element solutions were mutually consistent and they enabled the value of C to be established at 1.91. In the present paper similar comparisons are made between the analytical solution and the finite element solutions for the CCP of the same material under different biaxial modes of loading. By assuming further that the form of the analytical solution does not depend on the details of the geometry and of the loading at remote boundaries, a comparison has also been made with the results of a finite element analysis on a compact tension specimen (CTS) made of the same material as the CCP. The different values of C obtained in each case are consistent with investigations by other authors on the effect of load biaxiality on crack tip plasticity.  相似文献

Model equations for the shape of the Eiffel Tower are investigated. One model purported to be based on Eiffel's writing does not give a tower with the correct curvature. A second popular model not connected with Eiffel's writings provides a fair approximation to the tower's skyline profile of 29 contiguous panels. Reported here is a third model derived from Eiffel's concern about wind loads on the tower, as documented in his communication to the French Civil Engineering Society on 30 March 1885. The result is a nonlinear, integro-differential equation which is solved to yield an exponential tower profile. It is further verified that, as Eiffel wrote, “in reality the curve exterior of the tower reproduces, at a determined scale, the same curve of the moments produced by the wind”. An analysis of the actual tower profile shows that it is composed of two piecewise continuous exponentials with different growth rates. This is explained by specific safety factors for wind loading that Eiffel & Company incorporated in the design of the free-standing tower. To cite this article: P. Weidman, I. Pinelis, C. R. Three dimensional characteristic surfaces (slip surfaces) of elasto-plastic Navier's equations and the criteria for their existence are discussed, and the solutions are also applied to two dimensional cases. By making use of isotropic yield function, the following results are proved. If, and only if the plastic/elastic moduli ratio is zero and Detij)=0,(φij=ij, φ: yield function,σij: stress tensor), characteristic surfaces exist. There are two and only two characteristic surface elements at each point, and they are identical with the surfaces of maximum shearing stress.  相似文献

At grazing incidence of a flexural P-wave, or at grazing incidence of an extensional SV-wave, the wave motion vanishes in the case of an isotropic, elastic plate with traction-free surfaces. However, it is shown that the wave motion in these critical cases can be obtained from the evanescent Rayleigh-Lamb solution, by using d'Alembert's limiting procedure.  相似文献

A theory of plasticity without a yield surface is applied to obtain the simple wave solution of a thin-walled tube subject to the combined step loading. Four wave speeds are obtained in this analysis; all speeds involve the coupling of the longitudinal and the torsional motions as well as the loading and the unloading behaviors. Several numerical examples of our theoretical analysis and their comparisons with the experimental data and with the existing theory are also presented. The constant state region between slow and fast waves is not apparent in the present analysis. This is in good agreement with the experiment. Moreover, the predicted final state of shear strain is higher than the experimental, but less than Lipkin and Clifton's result.  相似文献

Results are presented on the evolution of subsequent yield surfaces with finite deformation in a very high work hardening annealed 1100 aluminum alloy. In Part I [Khan, A.S., Kazmi, R., Stoughton, T., Pandey, A., 2009a. Evolution of subsequent yield surfaces and elastic constants with finite plastic deformation. Part 1: a very low work hardening aluminum alloy (Al-6061–T6511) 25, 1611–1625.] of this paper, similar results are presented for a very low work hardening aluminum alloy. Those results were very different from the present ones, and all the results were for proportional loading paths. The subsequent yield surfaces are determined in tension, free end torsion and combined tension–torsion proportional and non-proportional loading paths, using 10 με deviation from linearity definition of yield. Yield surfaces are also determined after linear, bi-linear, and non-linear unloading paths after finite deformation under tension, free end torsion, and combined tension–torsion loading. The initial yield surface is closer to the von-Mises surface and the subsequent yield surfaces show distortion, expansion, positive cross-effect, and “nose” in the loading direction. Additionally, the subsequent yield surfaces after non-proportional loading paths show shrinkage and compounded distortion. The yield surfaces after unloading depict strong anisotropy, positive cross-effect and exhibits different proportion of distortion in each loading conditions. The Young’s and shear modulus decrease with plastic deformation and this decrease is much less than those reported in the published literature.  相似文献

A linear elastic body in plane strain which contains a stationary crack and which is initially at rest and stress free is considered. It is shown that if the elastodynamic displacement field and stress intensity factor are known, as functions of crack length, for any symmetrical distribution of time-varying forces which acts on the body, subsequent to t=0, then the stress intensity factor due to any other symmetrical load system whatsoever which acts on the same body may be directly determined. The other load system may be of arbitrary spatial distribution and time variation. Further, that part of the elastodynamic displacement field due to the other load system, which arises from the presence of the crack, may also be directly determined. The results are obtained by extension of Rice's mode of derivation of the corresponding Bueckner-Rice elastostatic results to Laplace-transformed elastodynamic variables. Likewise, the existence of a universal elastodynamic “weight function” for any given cracked body is demonstrated. As an application, Freund's recent result for the stress intensity factor due to suddenly applied concentrated forces on the crack surfaces is derived directly by our method, from de Hoop's earlier solution for suddenly applied uniform pressures.  相似文献

When there is a drop impact on a liquid surface, two phenomena can appear depending on the impact Weber number: either vortex generation or jet formation; in this paper the second behavior is dealt with. Based on the comparison of experimental and theoretical results, the dynamic of splashing drops on deep liquid surfaces is analyzed; this work focuses on the crater's evolution and its maximum. The liquids used are water and ethyl-alcohol. Drop impacts are made with various impact velocities by creating drops from several heights above the liquid surface. A straightforward model to describe and predict the crater's sinking evolution is proposed and agrees well with the experimental results over a range of Weber numbers from 50 to 1500. By using a principle of least energy and a Dugdale surface energy with an irreversibility condition, we build a debonding model of thin films valid both for monotone and cyclic loading. We show that, if the internal length introduced in Dugdale model is small in comparison to the film length, then the growth of the debonding follows Griffith's law under monotone loading and a Paris-type law under cycling loading. The paper studies non-linear thermal convection in a horizontal porous layer of fluid with nearly insulating boundaries and in the presence of internal heat sources. Square and hexagonal cells are found to be the only possible stable convection cells. Finite amplitude instability could exist for some particular forms of an internal heat source Q. For a uniform Q, the preferred flow pattern is that of hexagons for amplitude ε smaller than some critical value εc, while both squares and hexagonal cells are stable for ε ? εc. The convective motion is downward at the hexagonal cell's centers. For a non-uniform Q, the qualitative features of thermal convection depend on the actual form Q. In particular, a non-uniform Q can increase or decrease the cell's size and the critical Rayleigh number at the onset of convection, and stabilize or destabilize the convective motion in the form of hexagonal cells with either upward or downward motion at the cell's centers.  相似文献

Using the experimental results of yield surfaces obtained by Wu and Yeh [1991] (Int. J. Plasticity, 7, 803) for 304 stainless steel, this work provides a verification of the endochronic theory of plasticity accounting for deformation induced anisotropy. The experiments were performed under proportional loading conditions. The main difference between this paper and other papers that attempt to describe the distortion of a yield surface is that, in addition to distortion, motion of yield surface (kinematic hardening) has also been addressed by this paper. The result has shown that the theory predicts the experimental data with substantial accuracy. However, since in this theory the plastic strain increment, although normal to the initial yield surface, is in the radial direction emanating from the center of the subsequent yield surface, validity of the present model must be further studied for the case involving nonproportional loading conditions.  相似文献

An equimodulus surface is introduced and the subsequent yield surface after large finite shear prestraining is experimentally investogated. Fully annealed, thin-walled copper tubular specimens were subjected to large torsional loading and partial unloading; strain gages were carefully mounted on the specimen after the application of pure shear loading. Specimens were then subjected to various combined tension-torsion loadings. Influences of he von Mises and Tresca equivalent offset strains on the subsequent yield surfaces are studied. On examining the experimental results reported in this article, it was found that the smaller the offset strains, the more distorted are the subsequent yield surfaces. At the torsional preloading point, a rounded corner was developed, whereas in the region opposite to the preloading point, the subsequent yield surface was flattened. When large von Mises offset strains were used, the corresponding subsequent yield surfaces passed through the von Mises loading surface. But this was not the case when Tresca offset strains were used. The subsequent yield surface determined by the back extrapolation method was almost completely outside the von Mises loading surface. On the other hand, the subsequent yield surface determined by the back extrapolation method was close to the Tresca loading surface. It is also found that the equimodulus surface is distorted and cannot simply be described by the combined kinematic and isotropic hardening rule.  相似文献

We study the mechanical response, and tearing features of crêpe paper, a two-dimensional, very anisotropic material, with one direction much less stiff than the other one. Depending on how the soft direction has been pre-stretched or not, the apparent Young modulus of the material can be varied over a broad range, while its fracture energy remains unaltered. The classical tearing concertina problem shows that a macroscopic measurement (the shape of the teared region) provides a direct access to the fracture properties of the material (effective Young's modulus, and fracture energy). The overall discussion is conducted in the frame of Griffith's theory of fracture.  相似文献

In this article, an endochronic model of yield surface is proposed. Based on this model, the yield surface is simulated such that the forward and rear parts of the yield surface are described by different ellipses which are characterized by corresponding aspect ratio functions, respectively. Verification of the endochronic theory used the experimental results of yield surfaces obtained by Wu and Yeh for 304 stainless steel (Wu, H.C., Yeh, W.C., 1991. On the experimental determination of yield surfaces and some results of annealed 304 stainless steel. Int. J. Plasticity 7, 803–826). The experiments were performed cyclically under uniaxial, torsional, and combined axial–torsional loading conditions. The result has shown that the agreement between the prediction and experiments is quite satisfactory. In addition to the distortion of the yield surface plastically behaving a sharp front accompanied by a blunt rear, the anisotropic kinematic hardening effect has been addressed in this investigation. Although the experimental results of yield surfaces subjected to non-proportional loading conditions can be found in the literature, lack of information about the plastic strain history makes it impossible to verify the theory under such complicated loading conditions. The domain of applicability and validity of the theory, which is defined in terms of plastic strain increments, need be further investigated with the aim to set up related experiments.  相似文献
