New measurements of photoionization cross-sections of the lithium isotopes are reported employing a Time of Flight (TOF) mass spectrometer in conjunction with an atomic beam apparatus. Using a two-step selective photoionization and saturation technique, we have simultaneously measured the photoionization cross-section of the 2p excited state of both the isotopes Li6 and Li7 as 15±2.5 Mb and 18 ±2.5 Mb where as the corresponding number densities have been determined as N0≈5.3×1010 atoms/cm3 and N0≈6.2×1011 atoms/cm3 respectively.  相似文献

Calculations of intense field (around 1016 W/cm2) single- and double-ionization processes in helium at XUV wavelengths are presented. The laser wavelength is chosen near the | 2s2p 1 P autoionization structure and the dynamics are explored. Single and double ionization yields, as well as the photoelectron energy spectrum for photon energies around the autoionization structure are calculated. In the case of a pulse of few femtoseconds duration, no significant enhancement of the double ionization yield has been found in tuning the photon frequency around the peak of the resonance. It is also shown that in the case of a long pulse (and hence narrow compared with the relevant autoionization width), the branching ratio of double to single ionization yield can be relatively enhanced by tuning to the absorption minimum of the resonance. Two-photon photoassociation spectra in a Λ-type excitation scheme are analysed under the systematically varied experimental conditions of frequency detunings and laser intensities. Line shape fits are presented as well as the investigation of intensity and detuning dependent line shifts. From both we determine the attained spectroscopic precision, that is corrected for a systematic line shift due to the thermal distribution of atoms in the trap. An energy correction for this effect is given. Information about the feasibility of generating translationally cold molecules in a well defined rotational and vibrational level by the photoassociation process is derived from the analysis. The dynamics of laser-assisted elastic collisions in helium is studied using the second-order Born approximation. Detailed calculations of the scattering amplitudes are performed by using the Sturmian basis expansion. Differential cross sections for elastic scattering with the net absorption/emission of up to two photons are calculated for collision energies of 5 eV, 10 eV, and 20 eV. We discuss the influence of the low-energy electrons on the differential cross section (DCS) as a function of the scattering angle for selected choices of the laser frequency and the number of photons exchanged between the external field and electron-helium system.  相似文献

Total M-shell X-ray production cross sections (M XRF) of the some elements in the atomic number range were measured at 5.96 keV incident photon energy using a Si(Li) detector. The results are compared with the experimental and theoretical values in the literature.  相似文献

We propose a method to measure the carrier-envelop phase (CEP) and the intensity of a few-cycle pulse by controlling the non-sequentiai double ionization (NSDI) process. By using an additional static electric field, we can change the momentum distribution of the double-charged ions parallel to the laser polarization from an asymmetrical double-hump structure to a nearly symmetrical one. It is found that the ratio between the strength of the static electric field and that of the laser field is sensitive to the CEP but robust against the intensity fluctuation. Therefore we can determine the OEP of a few-cycle pulse precisely by measuring the static electric field. Fhrthermore, if the CEP of the few-cycle pulse is fixed at a certain value, we can also calibrate the intensity of the laser pulse by the static electric field.  相似文献

A classical microcanonical 1+1-dimensional model is used to investigate the ion momentum distributions in nonsequential double ionization with linearly polarized few-cycle pulses. We find that the ion momentum distribution has a strong dependence on the carrier-envelope phase of the few-cycle pulse, which is consistent with the experimental results qualitatively. Back analysis shows that the ionization probability of the first electron at different phases and its returning kinetic energy play the main role on the ion momentum distributions.  相似文献

A method for effectively removing background photons and improving the signal-to-background ratio in detection of fluorescence from a single cooled ion is described. In the method, an additional spatial filter placed at an off-focal position is used to remove scattered photons from trap-electrode surfaces. A signal-to-background ratio of more than 200 is obtained. By using this setup, a resolved carrier and motional sidebands on the 42S1/2–32D5/2 electric quadrupole transition in 40 Ca+ are observed.  相似文献

We report the observation of resonances in the intensity correlation spectra of a 3D rubidium optical lattice, which we attribute to light scattering from propagating atomic density fluctuations in the lattice. This process is the spontaneous analog of the stimulated scattering mechanism recently described by Courtois et al.. We investigate the dependence of the new resonances on the lattice angle and show that they disappear for large angles, thus resolving previous discrepancies on the subject. On the platform of the 3D H2^+ system, we perform a numerical simulation of its photoionization rate under excitation of weak to intense laser intensities with varying pulse durations and wavelengths. A novel method is proposed for calculating the photoionization rate: a double exponential decay of ionization probability is best suited for fitting this rate. Confirmation of the well-documented charge-resonance-enhanced ionization (CREI) effect at medium laser intensity and finding of ionization saturation at high light intensity corroborate the robustness of the suggested double-exponential decay process. Surveying the spatial and temporal variations of electron wavefunctions uncovers a mechanism for the double-exponentially decayed photoionization probability as onset of electron ionization along extra degree of freedom. Henceforth, the new method makes clear the origins of peak features in photoionization rate versus internuclear separation. It is believed that this multi-exponentially decayed ionization mechanism is applicable to systems with more degrees of motion.  相似文献

In Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy, neutral atoms are usually produced by thermal effects, using an oven or a hot surface at high temperature. The radiation from these thermal sources is intense enough to effectively contribute to the photoionization of atoms excited by laser pumping. We show that, for the most common experimental conditions, the ratio of thermal to laser photoionization can be higher than one for excited levels which lie as far as a few thousand cm–1 below the ionization threshold. This result is obtained with the use of the analytic expression for the photoionization cross-section of a hydrogen-like atom. We suggest two applications of this thermal photoionization. Namely, the study of highly excited states and Quasi Resonance Ionization Spectrometry, using only one laser of low radiance.Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, Centre d'Etudes Nucléaires de Fontenay-aux-Roses DERDCA/DCAEA/SEA, BP no 6, F-92265 Fontenay-aux-Roses Cedex, France (Visiting scientist at Ecole Polytechnique from Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique)Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, Centre d'Etudes Nucléaires de Saclay, IRF/DPHG/PAS. We present here a detailed study of the behaviour of a three dimensional Brownian motor based on cold atoms in a double optical lattice [P. Sj?lund et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 190602 (2006)]. This includes both experiments and numerical simulations of a Brownian particle. The potentials used are spatially and temporally symmetric, but combined spatiotemporal symmetry is broken by phase shifts and asymmetric transfer rates between potentials. The diffusion of atoms in the optical lattices is rectified and controlled both in direction and speed along three dimensions. We explore a large range of experimental parameters, where irradiances and detunings of the optical lattice lights are varied within the dissipative regime. Induced drift velocities in the order of one atomic recoil velocity have been achieved.  相似文献

We study electron-atom scattering in the presence of a laser field with elliptic polarization. We discuss the dependence of the differential cross sections for the cases of circular and linear polarizations as a function of scattering angle. Interesting typical signatures of the phase between the two components of the circular polarization of the laser field appear in the differential cross section.  相似文献

The results of Mikhailov et al. [A.I. Mikhailov, A.V. Nefiodov, G. Plunien, Phys. Lett. A 358 (2006) 211] on single and double ionization of He at high energy can be obtained quite simply by combining two previous results long well known in the literature. The results of Mikhailov et al. can also be understood in a larger context, using an asymptotic Fourier transform approach, which also allows a justification of various statements assumed but not demonstrated by Mikhailov et al.  相似文献

In this work, the multiplet splitting in terms of a spin-dependent model is analyzed. The spin-polarized and unpolarized single configuration Dirac-Fock-Slater wavefunctions have been used in the evaluation of the total energies of highly ionized argon with different L shell population The transition energies of hollow argon atom with initial configurations 1s 0 1/22s m 1/22p n 1/22p l 3/2 with m = 0 to 2 and n + l varying from 6 to 1 are reported in this work. The calculations have been carried out by taking into account a relativistic exchange potential in the Dirac-Slater potential. To account for the correlation effects, a correction term has also been considered perturbatively. The present calculations show that the spin-polarized technique which is mainly applied to the ground states of atoms may also be applied to atoms ionized in the inner shells with a good degree of accuracy. Ion traps are particular usefully devices for precision spectroscopy on ionic ground states in the microwave domain. Although ultimate precision is achieved only with laser-cooled single ions, in many cases the precision obtained using large uncooled clouds of ions is sufficient for many requirements in atomic physics. The stronger signal in this case makes possible experiments on forbidden transitions or on systems with complex spectra and many substates. Recent examples of laser-microwave double resonance spectra on Pb+ and Eu+ are presented along with attempts to laser-cool a large ion cloud in order to reduce uncertainties from the second-order Doppler effect.  相似文献

We present numerical results for the photoelectron spectrum in double ionization by keV photons in the quasiequal-energy sharing region. In this region of the spectrum, the relevant ionizing mechanism is due to a mutual sharing of the photon momentum by both electrons, with small momentum transferred to the atomic nucleus. Calculations were performed for photon energies of 25 and 50 keV, where retardation effects are fundamental, while final-state correlations are of minor importance. The spectra present a two-peak structure, with maxima located at the photoelectron energies , with the photon energy in atomic units. We discuss the general features of the spectrum in terms of the picture of the photoionization of two free electrons, and we propose a way of detecting the contribution by experiments. The signals of ultracold plasma are observed by two-photon ionization of laser-cooled atom in a caesium magneto-optical trap. A simple model has been introduced to explain the creation of plasma, and the mechanism is further investigated by changing the energy of a pulsed dye laser and the number of initial cooled atoms.  相似文献

Summary Total atomic incoherent-scattering differential cross-sections were determined experimentally for 59.5 keV gamma-rays in Ti, Ni, Zn, Se, Mo, Ru, Cd, Sn, Te, Yt, W and Pb at 120° scattering angle using Ge(Li) detector. The background correction and detection efficiency are also included in the study. The experimental values have been compared with those estimated on the basis of the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock wave functions. Good agreement is observed between theory and experiment.  相似文献

We present calculations of the fivefold differential cross-section (FDCS) for double photoionization of helium at excess energies of 6 and 20 eV above threshold. Our results are obtained using for the final double-continuum state a product of three Coulomb wave functions, with the Sommerfeld parameters modified to describe the strength of interaction of any two particles affected by the third particle. Our calculations are compared with recent absolute measurements by D?rner et al. (Phys. Rev. A 57, 1074 (1998)), both in coplanar and non-coplanar geometries. Very good agreement is obtained for the shape of the angular distributions, and differences in the absolute magnitude exist in comparison with the standard choice of Sommerfeld parameters.
