The authors study the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two incompressible immis- cible fluids with or without surface tension, evolving with a free interface in the presence of a uniform gravitational field in Eulerian coordinates. To deal with the free surface, instead of using the transformation to Lagrangian coordinates, the perturbed equations in Eule- rian coordinates are transformed to an integral form and the two-fluid flow is formulated as a single-fluid flow in a fixed domain, thus offering an alternative approach to deal with the jump conditions at the free interface. First, the linearized problem around the steady state which describes a denser immiscible fluid lying above a light one with a free interface separating the two fluids, both fluids being in (unstable) equilibrium is analyzed. By a general method of studying a family of modes, the smooth (when restricted to each fluid domain) solutions to the linearized problem that grow exponentially fast in time in Sobolev spaces are constructed, thus leading to a global instability result for the linearized problem. Then, by using these pathological solutions, the global instability for the corresponding nonlinear problem in an appropriate sense is demonstrated.  相似文献

将单层Kidder自相似解推广到双层,使得两层壳体的交界面两侧存在密度跳跃,使得轻流体向重流体加速产生Rayleigh-Taylor不稳定性;通过采用Lagrange坐标下的Godunov方法进行一维直接数值模拟,将模拟解与双层Kidder自相似基本解进行比较,验证了双层Kidder自相似解的可靠性;最后,通过编制球形内爆的三维扰动的线性稳定性分析程序,对双层Kidder自相似解的Rayleigh-Taylor不稳定性进行了分析计算.计算结果表明:初始扰动越集中于交界面,会造成后期扰动增长得越快,越不稳定;扰动波数越大,扰动增长得越快,越不稳定;从扰动在空间上的发展来看,可压缩性研究表明内外壳体的可压缩性对扰动增长起着相反的作用,外层壳体的可压缩性对Rayleigh-Taylor不稳定起失稳作用,而内层壳体的可压缩性对Rayleigh-Taylor不稳定起致稳作用.  相似文献

The character of the equilibrium of a non-viscous, compressible finitely conducting rotating fluid in the presence of a vertical magnetic field along the direction of gravitational field has been investigated. It is shown that the solution is characterised by a variational principle. Based on the existence of variational principle, an approximate solution has been derived for the case of a fluid having exponentially varying density in the vertical direction. Due to finite resistivity of the medium it is found that potentially stable or unstable configuration retains its character. Further the growth rate of disturbance has been obtained corresponding to short and long wavelengths and it is found that electrical resistivity suppresses the growth rate for large wavelengths but it increases the same for small wavelengths. It is further shown that magnetic field has a destabilizing influence for large wavelengths and a stabilizing influence for small wavelengths.  相似文献

The 3-dimensional incompressible Rayleigh-Taylor instability is numerically studied through the large-eddy-simulation ( LES) approach based on the passive scalar transport model. Both the instantaneous velocity and the passive scalar fields excited by sinusoidal perturbation and random perturbation are simulated. A full treatment of the whole evolution process of the instability is addressed. To verify the reliability of the LES code, the averaged turbulent energy as well as the flux of passive scalar are calculated at both the resolved scale and the subgrid scale. Our results show good agreement with the experimental and other numerical work. The LES method has proved to be an effective approach to the Rayleigh-Taylor instability.  相似文献

We use a statistical approach to investigate the modulational instability (Benjamin-Feir instability) in several nonlinear discrete systems: the discrete nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation, the Ablowitz-Ladik equation, and the discrete deformable NLS equation. We derive a kinetic equation for the two-point correlation function and use a Wigner-Moyal transformation to write it in a mixed space-wave-number representation. We perform a linear stability analysis of the resulting equation and discuss the obtained integral stability condition using several forms of the initial unperturbed spectrum (Lorentzian and δ-spectrum). This paper studies the dynamics of an incompressible fluid driven by gravity and capillarity forces in a porous medium. The main interest is the stabilization of the fluid in Rayleigh-Taylor unstable situations where the fluid lays on top of a dry region. An important feature considered here is that the layer of fluid is under an impervious wall. This physical situation has been widely study by mean of thin film approximations in the case of small characteristic high of the fluid considering its strong interaction with the fixed boundary. Here, instead of considering any simplification leading to asymptotic models, we deal with the complete free boundary problem. We prove that, if the fluid interface is smaller than an explicit constant, the solution is global in time and it becomes instantly analytic. In particular, the fluid does not form drops in finite time. Our results are stated in terms of Wiener spaces for the interface together with some non-standard Wiener-Sobolev anisotropic spaces required to describe the regularity of the fluid pressure and velocity. These Wiener-Sobolev spaces are of independent interest as they can be useful in other problems. Finally, let us remark that our techniques do not rely on the irrotational character of the fluid in the bulk and they can be applied to other free boundary problems.  相似文献

In the framework of linear theory of instability the pattern instability is studied for a layer of a viscous fluid in a large aspect ratio container subject to vertically arbitrarily periodic excitation. As some applications, first the instabilities for Faraday water-wave system under excitations of the triangle and square waves are analyzed. Then, the relations between relative amplitudes and phase of the excitation, and the response modes of the patterns are investigated in the double-frequency Faraday experiment. 用抛物化稳定性方程(PSE)研究超音速边界层中的二次失稳问题.结果显示无论二维基本扰动是第一模态还是第二模态的T-S波,二次失稳机制都起作用.三维亚谐波的放大率随其展向波数和二维基本波幅值的变化关系与不可压缩边界层中所得类似.但是,即使二维波的幅值大到2%的量级,三维亚谐波的最大放大率仍远小于最不稳定的第二模态二维T-S波的放大率.因此,二次失稳应该不是导致超音速边界层转捩的主要因素.  相似文献

A new strategy is presented to explain the creation and persistence of zonal flows widely observed in plasma edge turbulence. The core physics in the edge regime of the magnetic-fusion tokamaks can be described qualitatively by the one-state modified Hasegawa-Mima (MHM for short) model, which creates enhanced zonal flows and more physically relevant features in comparison with the familiar Charney-Hasegawa-Mima (CHM for short) model for both plasma and geophysical flows. The generation mechanism of zonal jets is displayed from the secondary instability analysis via nonlinear interactions with a background base state. Strong exponential growth in the zonal modes is induced due to a non-zonal drift wave base state in the MHM model, while stabilizing damping effect is shown with a zonal flow base state. Together with the selective decay effect from the dissipation, the secondary instability offers a complete characterization of the convergence process to the purely zonal structure. Direct numerical simulations with and without dissipation are carried out to confirm the instability theory. It shows clearly the emergence of a dominant zonal flow from pure non-zonal drift waves with small perturbation in the initial configuration. In comparison, the CHM model does not create instability in the zonal modes and usually converges to homogeneous turbulence.  相似文献

在静电激励微机电系统MEMS(micro-electro-mechanical systems)吸合特性研究中,基于应变梯度理论的微梁结构的控制方程是非线性高阶微分方程,给方程的求解带来了困难.由于该问题的数学模型本质上是分叉问题,方程的解支上出现奇异点,而运用局部延拓法无法通过奇异点.因此,通过运用广义微分求积法将控制方程降阶离散,结合拟弧长延拓法使迭代顺利通过奇异点,求出了整个解曲线.结果表明,拟弧长延拓法能有效并准确地求解具有分叉现象的高阶微分方程问题,为精确预测静电激励MEMS的吸合电压提供有力帮助.  相似文献
