On K_0-groups of operator algebras on Banach spaces

This paper merges some classifications of G-M-type Banach spaces simplifically, discusses the condition of K0(B(X)) = 0 for operator algebra B(X) on a Banach space X, and obtains a result to improve Laustsen's sufficient condition, gives an example to show that X ≈ X2 is not a sufficient condition of K0(B(X)) = 0.     

On the ordered K0 group of a simple C*-algebra

It is shown that any countable simple and unperforated partially ordered Abelian group with order unit, paired in an arbitrary way with a compact metrizable Choquet simplex, occurs as the K₀group of a simple unital ^*-algebra which is the inductive limit of a sequence of subhomogeneous ^*-algebras of a particularly simple form.     

Some G-M-type Banach spaces and K-groups of operator algebras on them

By providing several new varieties of G-M-type Banach spaces according todecomposable and compoundable properties, this paper discusses the operator structuresof these spaces and the K-theory of the algebra of the operators on these G-M-type Ba-nach spaces through calculation of the K-groups of the operator ideals contained in theclass of Riesz operators.     

K -groups of Toeplitz algebras on connected domains

In the present paper, it is proved that the K ₀-group of a Toeplitz algebra on any connected domain is always isomorphic to the K ₀-group of the relative continuous function algebra. In addition, the cohomotopy groups of essential boundaries of some connected domains are computed, and the K ₀-groups of the continuous function algebras on these domains are also computed. On <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis>-groups of operator algebra on the 1-shift space

In this paper we discuss the K-groups of Wiener algebra ;W. For the 1-shift space XGM2,We obtain a characterization of Fredholm operators on X^nGM2 for all n ∈ N. We also calculate the K-groups of operator algebra on the 1-shift space XGM2.     

On the simplicial cohomology of Banach operator algebras

We investigate the simplicial cohomology of certain Banach operator algebras. The two main examples considered are the Banach algebra of all bounded operators on a Banach space and its ideal of approximable operators. Sufficient conditions will be given forcing Banach algebras of this kind to be simplicially trivial.     

K3 et formules de Riemann-Hurwitzp-adiques

The well-known formula of Riemann-Hurwitz gives the change of genuses in ann-fold covering of compact connected Riemann surfaces. In Iwasawa theory, there existp-adic analogues which give the change of certain ^±-invariants in ap-extension ofCM number fields. Using functorial and arithmetical properties ofK ₃, we extend such Riemann-Hurwitzp-adic formulas to non-CM fields, assuming some restrictive hypotheses on the capitulation ofK ₂.

     

On K2 of One-Dimensional Local Rings

We study K₂ of one-dimensional local domains which are essentially of finite type over a field of characteristic 0. In particular, we show that Berger’s conjecture implies Geller’s conjecture for such rings. This verifies Geller’s conjecture in many new cases of interest. Received: September 2003     

Dimension Theory and Nonstable K1 of Quadratic Modules

Employing Bak's dimension theory, we investigate the nonstable quadratic K-group K _1,2n (A, ) = G _2n (A, )/E _2n (A, ), n 3, where G _2n (A, ) denotes the general quadratic group of rank n over a form ring (A, ) and E _2n (A, ) its elementary subgroup. Considering form rings as a category with dimension in the sense of Bak, we obtain a dimension filtration G _2n (A, ) G _2n ⁰(A, ) ; G _2n ¹(A, ) ... E _2n (A, ) of the general quadratic group G _2n (A, ) such that G _2n (A, )/G _2n ⁰(A, ) is Abelian, G _2n ⁰(A, ) G _2n ¹(A, ) ... is a descending central series, and G _2n ^d(A)(A, ) = E _2n (A, ) whenever d(A) = (Bass–Serre dimension of A) is finite. In particular K _1,2n (A, ) is solvable when d(A) < .

Rank functions and state spaces of K0

While the formulations of localization rank and stably free rank are given, the characterizations of elements are obtained for a class of VN regular ring. For a ring R, the characters of some properties of K₀R are also given in terms of the state space of K₀.     

K2 of a Ring via the G-Construction

We interpret the Steinberg symbols x_i,j(a) as homotopies contracting the elementary matrices e_i,j(a), the latters being represented by certain arcs in a simplicial model of the K-theory. We further prove the Steinberg relations for these homotopies. This provides an explicit map from K₂ of a ring, defined classically as ker(St(R) → GL(R)), to π₂ of the G-construction assigned to R. Though the two groups are known to be isomorphic, a certain work is to be done to prove that this explicit map is an isomorphism. Relative K homology and C* algebras

Let A be a separable nuclear C ⁺ algebra with unit. Let be a closed two-sided ideal in A. A relative K homology group K ⁰(A,) is defined. Closely related are topological definitions of properly supported K homology and of compactly supported relative K homology. Applications are to indices of Toeplitz operators and existence of coercive boundary conditions for elliptic differential operators.     

On the structure of the K2 of the ring of integers in a number field

For any prime p, the p-primary part of the tame and the wild kernel of a number field F is described in terms of ideal class groups of p-power cyclotomic extensions of F.     

The decomposition of Kv into K2×K5''''s

The decomposition of the complete graph Kv into Kr×Kc's, the products of Kr and Kc,is originated from the use of DNA library screening. In this paper, we consider the case where r=2 and c = 5, and show that such a decomposition exists if and only if v ≡ 1 (mod 25).     

Note on theK0 of rings with Zariskian filtration

For a noncommutative Zariski ringR with associated graded ringG(R) of finite global dimension there is an injectionK _o(R) K _o (G(R)). The result applies to certain rings of differential operators, in particular to the ring of germs of microlocal differential operators that also provides an example of a nonpositively filtered Zariski ring.Research fellow at UIA, supported by a grant from the Province of Antwerp.Supported by an NFWO grant.     

Characterisations of Chebyshev sets in c0

A subset MX of a normed linear space X is a Chebyshev set if, for every xX, the set of all nearest points from M to x is a singleton. We obtain a geometrical characterisation of approximatively compact Chebyshev sets in c₀. Also, given an approximatively compact Chebyshev set M in c₀ and a coordinate affine subspace Hc₀ of finite codimension, if M∩H≠, then M∩H is a Chebyshev set in H, where the norm on H is induced from c₀.     

On the K-divisibility constant for some special finite-dimensional Banach couples

We prove new estimates of the K-divisibility constants for some special Banach couples. In particular, we prove that the K-divisibility constant for a couple of the form (UV,U) where U and V are non-trivial Hilbert spaces equals . We also prove estimates for the K-divisibility constant of the two-dimensional version of the couple (L₂,L_∞), proving in particular that this couple is not exactly K-divisible. There are also several auxiliary results, including some estimates for relative Calderón constants for finite-dimensional couples.
