The motion of charged particles in the Earth’s magnetic field has been of interest to mathematicians and physicists in connection with the study of the polar aurora and cosmic rays. In 1907, Norwegian mathematician Stromer gave the mathematical formulation of this problem. It became the problem of great importance with the discovery of the Van Allen radiation. As is known, the Earth’s magnetic field can be considered approximately as a superposition of dipole and uniform magnetic fields, and the dipole’s magnetic moment is either parallel or antiparallel to the induction of the uniform field. Thus, the problem concerning the dynamics of the charged particle in the magnetic field of the Earth is reduced to that of charged particle dynamics in the composed field. The paper is devoted to the construction and investigation of the allowed regions in a superposition of dipole and uniform magnetic fields for positive values of Stormer’s constant γ and the same orientation of magnetic moment and uniform field.  相似文献

We use the normalized preconditioned conjugate gradient method with Strang’s circulant preconditioner to solve a nonsymmetric Toeplitz system Anx=b, which arises from the discretization of a partial integro-differential equation in option pricing. By using the definition of family of generating functions introduced in [16], we prove that Strang’s circulant preconditioner leads to a superlinear convergence rate under certain conditions. Numerical results exemplify our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

It is shown that if E is a separable and uniformly convex Banach space with Opial’s property and C is a nonempty bounded closed convex subset of E, then for some asymptotically regular self-mappings of C the set of fixed points is not only connected but even a retract of C. Our results qualitatively complement, in the case of a uniformly convex Banach space, a corresponding result presented in [T. Domínguez, M.A. Japón, G. López, Metric fixed point results concerning measures of noncompactness mappings, in: W.A. Kirk, B. Sims (Eds.), Handbook of Metric Fixed Point Theory, Kluwer Acad. Extensive data now available on the non-thermal background radio emission from different celestial directions, and recent measurements on the energy spectrum of cosmic ray electrons in the vicinity of the earth permit one to deduce information on the mean magnetic fields and cosmic electron spectra needed to exist in different regions of the Galaxy. It is found that in order to explain quantitatively the background radio brightness distributions from the Galaxy one needs (i) the same or nearly same electron spectrum that exists in the near interstellar space, to exist in almost all regions of Galactic space, (ii) a mean magnetic field close to 6×10?6 Gauss in the Disc in the direction of the Anti-centre, (iii) a mean magnetic field close to 2·5×10?6 Gauss in the radio Halo and (iv) a mean magnetic field probably close to 9·5×10?6 Gauss towards the Galactic Ridge in the direction of the Centre. Some inferences are also drawn on the confinement of cosmic rays in the Galaxy.  相似文献

We derive a satisfying rate of convergence of the Marcus-Lushnikov process towards the solution to Smoluchowski’s coagulation equation. Our result applies to a class of homogeneous-like coagulation kernels with homogeneity degree ranging in (−,1]. It relies on the use of a Wasserstein-type distance, which has shown to be particularly well-adapted to coalescence phenomena. It was introduced and used in preceding works (Fournier and Laurençot (2006) [7]) and (Fournier and Löcherbach (2009) [8]).  相似文献

We prove that if S is an ω-model of weak weak König’s lemma and , is incomputable, then there exists , such that A and B are Turing incomparable. The purpose of this paper is, in multivariate linear regression model (Part I) and GMANOVA model (Part II), to investigate the effect of nonnormality upon the nonnull distributions of some multivariate test statistics under normality. It is shown that whatever the underlying distributions, the difference of local powers up to order N−1 after either Bartlett’s type adjustment or Cornish-Fisher’s type size adjustment under nonnormality coincides with that in Anderson [An Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis, 2nd ed. and 3rd ed., Wiley, New York, 1984, 2003] under normality. The derivation of asymptotic expansions is based on the differential operator associated with the multivariate linear regression model under general distributions. The performance of higher-order results in finite samples, including monotone Bartlett’s type adjustment and monotone Cornish-Fisher’s type size adjustment, is examined using simulation studies.  相似文献

This paper uses duality to analyze an investor’s behavior in a n-asset portfolio selection problem when the investor has mean variance preferences. The indirect utility and wealth requirement functions are used to derive Roy’s identity, Shephard’s lemma and the Slutsky equation. In our simple Slutsky equation the income effect is characterized by decreasing absolute risk aversion (DARA) and the substitution effect is always positive [negative] with respect to an asset’s holding if the asset’s mean return [risk] increases. Substitution effect and income effect work in the same direction presupposed mean variance preferences display DARA.  相似文献

Obliquely dust-acoustic solitary waves in a collisional, magnetized dusty plasmas having cold dust grains, isothermal electrons, two temperature isothermal ions and stationary neutrals are studied via a reductive perturbation method. It is found that the effects of two temperature ions, collisions, magnetic field and directional cosine of the waves vector k along the x-axis have vital roles in the behavior of the dust acoustic solitary waves. The present investigation can be relevance to the electrostatic solitary structures observed in various cosmic dust-laden plasmas, such as Saturn’s E-ring, noctilucent clouds, Halley’s comet and interstellar molecular clouds.  相似文献

Let K be a number field, , or the field of rational functions on a smooth projective curve over a perfect field, and let V be a subspace of KN, N?2. Let ZK be a union of varieties defined over K such that V?ZK. We prove the existence of a point of small height in V?ZK, providing an explicit upper bound on the height of such a point in terms of the height of V and the degree of a hypersurface containing ZK, where dependence on both is optimal. This generalizes and improves upon the results of Fukshansky (2006) [6] and [7]. As a part of our argument, we provide a basic extension of the function field version of Siegel's lemma (Thunder, 1995) [21] to an inequality with inhomogeneous heights. As a corollary of the method, we derive an explicit lower bound for the number of algebraic integers of bounded height in a fixed number field.

There are only very few results on the existence of unique local in time strong solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for completely general domains ΩR3, although domains with edges and corners, bounded or unbounded, are very important in applications. The reason is that the Lq-theory for the Stokes operator A is available in general only in the Hilbert space setting, i.e., with q=2. Our main result for a general domain Ω is optimal in a certain sense: Consider an initial value and a zero external force. Then the condition is sufficient and necessary for the existence of a unique local strong solution uL8(0,T;L4(Ω)) in some interval [0,T), 0<T, with u(0)=u0, satisfying Serrin’s condition . Note that Fujita-Kato’s sufficient condition u0D(A1/4) is strictly stronger and therefore not optimal.  相似文献

Ray tracing in the presence of linear mode conversion leads to a ‘splitting’ of an incoming ray into two outgoing rays. When the rays are confined to a cavity, the rays can re-enter the conversion region many times, leading to iterated conversion. In this paper, we present new methods for the analysis of this problem. These involve a shift from local to global methods of analysis, and a shift in emphasis from the study of ray evolution in the dispersion surface to the study of the iterated dynamics of rays crossing the conversion surface. The analytical methods are quite general and can be applied in phase spaces of arbitrary dimension. In two spatial dimensions, (xy), i.e. with a four-dimensional ray space, (xykxky), rays are confined to three-dimensional regions called rooms, with one room for each wave type. In these rooms the rays do not cross, but when they intersect the conversion surface a family of converted rays is produced in the other room. The use of rooms allows a full view of the phase space dynamics of the iterated conversion of ray families. A simple two-dimensional model, inspired by the Budden resonance model, is presented as an example of these ideas.  相似文献

We consider a family of slightly extended version of Raynaud’s surfaces X over the field of positive characteristic with Mumford-Szpiro type polarizations Z, which have Kodaira non-vanishing H1(X,Zn)≠0 for all 1≤nN with some N≥1. We consider symmetric indecomposable d-linear (d>2) spaces of dimension n over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic 0, whose center (the analog of the space of symmetric matrices of a bilinear form) is cyclic, as introduced by Reichstein [B. Reichstein, On Waring’s problem for cubic forms, Linear Algebra Appl. 160 (1992) 1-61]. The automorphism group of these spaces is determined through the action on the center and through the determination of the Lie algebra. In this paper an application of the recently introduced pre-Lie Magnus expansion to Jackson’s q-integral and q-exponentials is presented. Twisted dendriform algebras, which are the natural algebraic framework for Jackson’s q-analogs, are introduced for that purpose. It is shown how the pre-Lie Magnus expansion is used to solve linear q-differential equations. We also briefly outline the theory of linear equations in twisted dendriform algebras.  相似文献

A new method of summation of slowly convergent series is proposed. It may be successfully applied to the summation of generalized and basic hypergeometric series, as well as some classical orthogonal polynomial series expansions. In some special cases, our algorithm is equivalent to Wynn’s epsilon algorithm, Weniger transformation [E.J. Weniger, Nonlinear sequence transformations for the acceleration of convergence and the summation of divergent series, Computer Physics Reports 10 (1989) 189-371] or the technique recently introduced by ?í?ek et al. [J. ?í?ek, J. Zamastil, L. Skála, New summation technique for rapidly divergent perturbation series. Hydrogen atom in magnetic field, Journal of Mathematical Physics 44 (3) (2003) 962-968]. In the case of trigonometric series, our method is very similar to the Homeier’s H transformation, while in the case of orthogonal series — to the K transformation. Two iterated methods related to the proposed method are considered. Some theoretical results and several illustrative numerical examples are given.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a semilinear variational inequality with a gradient-dependent nonlinear term. Obviously the nature of this problem is non-variational. Nevertheless we study that problem associating a suitable semilinear variational inequality, variational in nature, with it, and performing an iterative technique used in De Figueiredo et al. (2004) [6] in order to treat semilinear elliptic equations when there is a gradient dependence on the nonlinearity. We prove the existence of a non-trivial non-negative weak solution u for our problem using essentially variational methods, a penalization technique and an iterative scheme. Via Lewy-Stampacchia’s estimates and regularity theory for elliptic equation we also show that u is differentiable and its gradient is α-H?lder continuous on for any α∈(0,1).  相似文献

Ramachandran (1969) [9, Theorem 8] has shown that for any univariate infinitely divisible distribution and any positive real number α, an absolute moment of order α relative to the distribution exists (as a finite number) if and only if this is so for a certain truncated version of the corresponding Lévy measure. A generalized version of this result in the case of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions, involving the concept of g-moments, was given by Sato (1999) [6, Theorem 25.3]. We extend Ramachandran’s theorem to the multivariate case, keeping in mind the immediate requirements under appropriate assumptions of cumulant studies of the distributions referred to; the format of Sato’s theorem just referred to obviously varies from ours and seems to have a different agenda. Also, appealing to a further criterion based on the Lévy measure, we identify in a certain class of multivariate infinitely divisible distributions the distributions that are self-decomposable; this throws new light on structural aspects of certain multivariate distributions such as the multivariate generalized hyperbolic distributions studied by Barndorff-Nielsen (1977) [12] and others. Various points relevant to the study are also addressed through specific examples.  相似文献
