We obtain a new criterion sufficient for approximate amenability of Banach algebras, and an associated criterion sufficient for approximate amenability of c0c0-direct sums of approximately amenable Banach algebras. We use these criteria to give examples of Banach algebras which are approximately amenable, but not boundedly approximately amenable. Thus we answer a question which was open since the year 2004. This is, so to speak, the complementary result to one of our earlier ones in the paper [F. Ghahramani, C.J. Read, Approximate identities in approximate amenability, J. Funct. Anal. 262 (9) (2012) 3929–3945], where we gave examples of boundedly approximately amenable Banach algebras that are not boundedly approximately contractible.  相似文献

Let be a Hausdorff compact space and let be the algebra of all continuous complex-valued functions on , endowed with the supremum norm. We say that is (approximately) -th root closed if any function from is (approximately) equal to the -th power of another function. We characterize the approximate -th root closedness of in terms of -divisibility of the first Cech cohomology groups of closed subsets of . Next, for each positive integer we construct an -dimensional metrizable compactum such that is approximately -th root closed for any . Also, for each positive integer we construct an -dimensional compact Hausdorff space such that is -th root closed for any .

We show that every closed ideal of a Segal algebra on a compact group admits a central approximate identity which has the property, called condition (U), that the induced multiplication operators converge to the identity operator uniformly on compact sets of the ideal. This result extends a known one due to H. Reiter who has considered the problem under the condition that the Segal algebra is symmetric. We prove further that a closed right ideal of a Segal algebra on a compact group admits a left approximate identity satisfying condition (U) if and only if it is approximately complemented as a subspace of the Segal algebra; if in addition the Segal algebra is symmetric, then a closed left ideal admits a right approximate identity satisfying condition (U) if and only if it is approximately complemented.  相似文献

In this paper, among other things, the author studies the weak^*-closed left translation invariant complemented subspace of semigroup algebras and group algebras. Also, the author studies the relationships between projections and amenability.  相似文献

We show that it is impossible to define a substitution operator for arbitrary representable cylindric algebras that agrees in its basic properties with the notion of substitutions introduced for dimension complemented algebras (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Our first purpose in this paper is to provide necessary conditions for a weak*-closed translation invariant subspace in the semigroup algebra of a locally compact topological foundation semigroup to be completely complemented. We give conditions when a weak*-closed left translation invariant subspace in Ma(S)* of a compact cancellative foundation semigroup S is the range of a weak*-weak* continuous projection on M a (S)* commuting with translations. Let G be a locally compact group and A be a Banach G-module. Our second purpose in this paper is to study some projections on A* and B(A*) which commutes with translations and convolution.  相似文献

We consider a -ring homomorphism from a commutative Banach algebra with an involution to a commutative Banach algebra with a symmetric involution. We give the Gelfand transform of the -ring homomorphism image.

Let K be a compact subgroup of a locally compact group G. Completely complemented ideals in A(G/K) are characterised. Biprojectivity and biflatness for the Fourier algebra A(G/K) are studied. A(G/K) is operator biprojective precisely when K is open and if this happens, then G does not contain the free group on two generators as a closed subgroup.  相似文献

LetA be a real or complex Banach algebra and assume that is an action of a finite groupG onA by means of continuous automorphisms. To such a finite covariant system (A, G, ), we associate an Abelian groupK(A, G, ). We obtain some classical exact sequences for an algebraA and a closed invariant idealI. We also compute the group in a few important special cases. Doing so, we relate our new invariant to the classicalK 0 andK 1 of a Banach algebra and to theK-theory of 2-graded Banach algebras. Finally, we obtain a result that gives a close relationship of our groupK(A, G, ) with theK-theory of the crossed productA G. In particular, we prove a six-term exact sequence involving our groupK(A, G, ) and theK-groups ofA G. In this way, we hope to contribute to the well-known problem of finding theK-theory of the crossed productA G in the case of an action of a finite group.  相似文献

A Characterization of Homomorphisms Between Banach Algebras   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We show that every unital invertibility preserving linear map from a yon Neumann algebra onto a semi-simple Banach algebra is a Jordan homomorphism; this gives an affirmative answer to a problem of Kaplansky for all yon Neumann algebras. For a unital linear map Ф from a semi-simple complex Banach algebra onto another, we also show that the following statements are equivalent: (1)Ф is an homomorphism; (2) Ф is completely invertibility preserving; (3) Ф is 2-invertibility preserving.  相似文献

We give a generalization of the Stone–Weierstrass property for subalgebras of C (X), with X a completely regular Hausdorff space. In particular, we study in this paper some subalgebras of C0(X), with X a locally compact Hausdorff space, provided with weighted norm topology. By using the Stone–Weierstrass property, we then describe the ideal structure of these algebras. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Let be the algebra of all complex-valued continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space . We say that is algebraically closed if each monic polynomial equation over has a continuous solution. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for to be algebraically closed for a locally connected compact Hausdorff space . In this case, it is proved that is algebraically closed if each element of is the square of another. We also give a characterization of a first-countable compact Hausdorff space such that is algebraically closed.

This paper investigates the cohomological property of vector bundles on biprojective space. We will give a criterion for a vector bundle to be isomorphic to the tensor product of pullbacks of exterior products of differential sheaves.

Let A be a complex Banach algebra. In this paper, we prove a periodicity theorem that K(S 2 A, G, )K(A, G,), where (A,G,) is a finite covariant system and K(A,G,) is an Abelian group associated with (A,G,).  相似文献

We consider the distribution of the first sum of a sequence of positive integer valued iid random variables which is divisible byd. This is known to converge, when divided byd, to a geometric distribution asd. We obtain results on the rate of convergence using two contrasting approaches. In the first, Stein's method is adapted to geometric limit distributions. The second method is based on the theory of Banach algebras. Each method is shown to have its merits.  相似文献

Let T be a surjective map from a unital semi-simple commutative Banach algebra A onto a unital commutative Banach algebra B. Suppose that T preserves the unit element and the spectrum σ(fg) of the product of any two elements f and g in A coincides with the spectrum σ(TfTg). Then B is semi-simple and T is an isomorphism. The condition that T is surjective is essential: An example of a non-linear and non-multiplicative unital map from a commutative C*-algebra into itself such that σ(TfTg)=σ(fg) holds for every f,g are given. We also show an example of a surjective unital map from a commutative C*-algebra onto itself which is neither linear nor multiplicative such that σ(TfTg)⊂σ(fg) holds for every f,g.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend the Moreau (Riesz) decomposition theorem from Hilbert spaces to Banach spaces. Criteria for a closed subspace to be (strongly) orthogonally complemented in a Banach space are given. We prove that every closed subspace of a Banach space X with dim X ≥ 3 (dim X ≤ 2) is strongly orthognally complemented if and only if the Banach space X is isometric to a Hilbert space (resp. strictly convex), which is complementary to the well-known result saying that every closed subspace of a Banach space X is topologically complemented if and only if the Banach space X is isomorphic to a Hilbert space.  相似文献
