A tunable, continuous-wave, frequency-doubled, rhodamine 6G dye laser has been developed using an ADA crystal placed in an astigmatic and coma compensated cavity. Generated UV powers of the order of 30mW cw in a single direction in gaussian form over the range 292–302 nm have been obtained by temperature phase matching, and with a 4.5 W pump. Power output is affected by thermal phase mismatching, and is ultimately limited by thermal lensing. Two scanning systems have been developed; a broadband arrangement of linewidth 0.02 nm continuously tunable over a range of 2 nm, and a narrowband system of linewidth 0.002 nm continuously tunable over a range of 1 nm. The laser has been used to detect the Rydberg states of Rb up to a principal quantum of n = 74.  相似文献

We report a c.w. intracavity, frequency doubled, rhodamine B dye laser using an RDP crystal 5 cm long. Generated uv powers up to 15 mW are obtained in a single direction with a linewidth of 2 GHz over the range 314–318 nm. A conversion efficiency of about 1.25 × 10-3 W-1 is measured.  相似文献

An all-fiber, wavelength-tunable, passively mode-locked erbium-doped ring laser is presented. Erbium-doped fibers (EDF) are used as the gain media because of their large gain bandwidth. Nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) plays the dual role of realizing mode-locking and effectively adjusting the intensity-dependent loss of the cavity. An unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer (UMZI) is used as a tunable optical beam filter. By using the UMZI and adjusting the polarization controllers (PCs), a sub-picosecond mode-locking laser is realized that is self-starting with central lasing wavelengths that can be accurately tuned over a range of about ~ sim 30 nm and also has controllable spacings between different tunable wavelengths.  相似文献

We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the presence of concentration-induced nonuniform power in tunable erbium-doped fiber lasers. A theoretical model is proposed with pair-induced quenching taken into account. We obtain good agreement between numerical and experimental results of a high-concentration erbium-doped fiber ring laser with a large tuning range of over 100 nm. These findings are useful for the design of lasers with doped fibers.  相似文献

Wavelength tunable erbium-doped fiber ring laser operating in L-band   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
We describe a novel erbium-doped fiber ring laser utilizing the backward amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) power as a secondary pump source so that it can operate in L-band stably. The output wavelength can be tuned in a wide range of 45 nm, from 1560 to 1605 nm. We also compared this scheme with the condition of not using the ASE as secondary pump source, and found this scheme could improve the performance of the laser when using the same components.  相似文献

A compact and tunable erbium-doped fiber laser is demonstrated using a highly doped fiber and a microfiber knot resonator (MKR) structure which is laid on the surface of a small peltier. The MKR functions as both a reflector and a tunable filter where tunability is achieved by varying the temperature of the resonator by heating the peltier. A stable laser output is achieved at the 1533 nm region with an optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of 27 dB using a 65 mW of 980 nm pump power. The operating wavelength of the laser can be tuned from 1532.60 nm to 1533.49 nm as the temperature is increased from the room temperature of 24 to 90 °C. It is observed that the operating wavelength shifts to a longer wavelength as the temperature increases with an efficiency of 12.4 pm/°C. This is due to the thermally induced optical phase shift attributable to the changes in effective refractive index and optical path length of the MKR loop.

A compact erbium-doped ring-shaped fiber laser suitable for fiber-optic sensing applications has been developed. The fiber laser utilized a tunable fiber Fabry–Perot filter as the tuning element and had a moderate milli-Watt level power output over almost the whole tuning range from 1530 to 1595 nm with a power fluctuation of 0.15 dB. High repetition rate scanning of laser operation over the whole tuning range was achieved at rates of up to 200 Hz. Moreover, the performance of the ring-shaped fiber laser configured with a high-concentration erbium-doped fiber was investigated for its larger wavelength tunability of over 100 nm. Output power characteristics of this ring-shaped fiber laser were also investigated when it worked in a scanning mode. A distorted power wavelength dependence, as well as some pulsing phenomenon were observed in scanning mode.  相似文献

A widely tunable narrow linewidth compact erbium-doped all-fiber ring laser with 104 nm tuning range was reported. An all-fiber Fabry-Perot filter (FFP-TF) was used to realize the laser tuning output, and the wavelength at constant voltage had high time stability. With the 8 m length erbium-doped fiber as gain medium, we realized widely tunable laser from 1513 to 1617 nm with the linewidth less than 40 pm at any wavelength. Pumped by the 976 nm laser diode, the fiber laser worked with slope efficiency of above 10% and threshold of less than 21 mW.  相似文献

A tunable harmonic output power of 18 W at a wavelength of =370 nm is obtained by resonance-enhanced frequency doubling of an optically-stabilized semiconductor laser. A commercially available AlGaAs laser diode which emits a maximum power of 10 mW at =740 nm is operated in an extended-cavity configuration. Dispersion prisms are used in the extended cavity to obtain longitudinal-mode selection with low loss of optical power. The output is focussed into an optically isolated high-finesse ring resonator which contains a LiIO3 crystal for second-harmonic generation. One potential application of this laser source is the optical excitation and laser cooling of ytterbium in an ion trap. In a related demonstration experiment, the frequency-doubled diode laser is applied to excite the =369.5 nm 2 S 1/2-2 P 1/2 transition of ytterbium ions in a hollow-cathode discharge.  相似文献

We demonstrate a tunable nanosecond optical parametric oscillator with a narrowed signal spectrum. This was done by use of a volume Bragg grating based retroreflector, which makes the tuning simple and yields a compact design. Using periodically poled KTiOPO4 as the nonlinear medium, we generated 0.42 mJ of signal energy at 760 nm with a tuning range of 5 nm(2.6 THz) and a bandwidth of 0.25 nm(130 GHz) when the oscillator was pumped at 532 nm with 1.3 mJ of energy.  相似文献

Tunable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with good stability is experimentally demonstrated. Output power of as high as +5.26 dBm is obtained in dual ring configuration. Both laser output can be tuned to as closed as 0.8 nm spacing between each other, with tuning range of 31.33 nm. The stability of both outputs was tested that results in less than ±0.8 dB and ±0.01 nm in power and wavelength fluctuation, respectively.  相似文献

An efficient pumping scheme for a quasi-continuous-wave diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser is presented. Single-mode operation and fine wavelength tuning are assured by the use of a rubidium titanyl phosphate (RTP) Fabry–Perot étalon. When frequency doubled, the 200–420 μs duration pulses reach a peak power of 70 W at a wavelength of 515 nm. The TEM00 beam is nearly diffraction limited with an M 2 factor of 1.06 at full power. The tuning range spans from 512 to 520 nm and the pulse to pulse frequency stability is on the order of ±10 MHz. Laboratoire Aimé Cotton is associated with Université Paris Sud 11.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally investigate a stable and tunable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber (EDF) dual-ring laser scheme. Here, two tunable bandpass filters (TBFs) are used inside the dual-ring gain cavity to generate dual-wavelength lasing. And, due to the gain competition of the EDF gain cavity, the mode-spacing (Δλs) of lasing dual-wavelength will be limited at different operating wavelengths. Hence, the minimum and maximum mode-spacing in the proposed EDF laser scheme are 0.75 and 15.35 nm in C-band range. Besides, the output performances of proposed fiber laser have also been studied and analyzed.  相似文献

Coupling femtosecond light pulses from an all-fiber Er:laser system into a dispersion-shifted and highly non-linear fiber, we generate output spectra exhibiting two broadband and mutually coherent maxima. Depending on the chirp of the input pulse, the spectral separation is easily tunable over a wide range up to values exceeding 100 THz. In this way, the source provides access to an ultrabroadband wavelength interval from 1130 to 1950 nm. Because of soliton effects, the long-wave component exhibits a transform-limited pulse width of 40 fs directly after the nonlinear element. The high-frequency part propagating in the dispersive regime is recompressed to pulse durations as short as 24 fs with an optimized prism sequence.  相似文献

We present the first photoacoustic spectrometer for gas sensing employing both the fundamental and the frequency-doubled radiation of a continuously tunable high-pressure CO2 laser with room temperature operation. A quasi-phase-matched diffusion-bonded GaAs crystal is used in the system for second-harmonic generation. A pulsed photoacoustic detection scheme with a non-resonant cell, equipped with an 80-microphone array, is employed. The wide continuous tuning range in the fundamental (9.2–10.7 μm) and the frequency-doubled (4.6–5.35 μm) regimes, together with the narrow linewidth of 540 MHz (0.018 cm-1) for the 10-μm region and of 1050 MHz (0.0315 cm-1) for the 5-μm region, allow the measurement of gas mixtures, individual species and isotope discrimination. This is illustrated with measurements on NO and CO2. The measured isotope ratio 15 NO/14 NO=(3.58±0.55)×10-3 agrees well with the literature (3.700×10-3) and demonstrates the good selectivity of the system. We experimentally demonstrate the coherent combining of two tunable erbium-doped fiber lasers by using a single-mode fiber feedback loop configuration. A single-mode fiber is arranged in the feedback loop to filter the far-field pattern, and the energy of desired in-phase mode is collected and injected into the resonators of two component fiber lasers. The coherently combined laser is tunable over a wide spectrum ranging from 1536 to 1569 nm, which means that the combining scheme is compatible with wavelength tuning. The effects and necessity of whether adopting polarization controlling measures or not in component lasers are investigated in detail. The results indicate that adding polarization controlling can improve the array's coherence, whereas it will decrease the output power and efficiency simultaneously.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a wavelength-spacing tunable multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on degenerate four-wave mixing in a dispersion-shifted fiber incorporating multiple-fiber Bragg gratings. We have achieved stable operation of the multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser, which has 0.8 nm spacing ten-channel lasing wavelengths and a high extinction ratio of more than approximately 45 dB, at room temperature. The output power of the multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is stable, so the peak fluctuation is less than approximately 0.2 dB. By changing the properties such as loss and polarization state of multiple fiber Bragg grating cavities, we can exercise flexible control of the wavelength spacing of the multiwavelength output. We can also obtain switchable multiwavelength lasing operation by elimination of the effects of alternate single-fiber Bragg gratings.  相似文献

In this demonstration, a stable and wavelength-tunable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser using dual-saturable-absorber-based (DSAB) filter inside loop cavity is proposed and experimentally investigated. The proposed DSAB filter not only can filter the side-mode in single-frequency output, but also can obtain the flattened output power spectrum within 1 dB variation in the effectively range of 1529 to 1563 nm. In addition, the output stabilities of wavelength and power are also measured experimentally and discussed.  相似文献

A new mechanism to induce polarization hole burning effect in Er-doped fiber ring lasers is presented. By using this effect, incorporating with the counter-propagation of the two light beams, the inhomogeneous in the gain medium broadening was significantly increased, and thus a stable dual-frequency Er-doped fiber ring laser operating in single longitudinal mode and single-frequency was demonstrated. Frequency spacing was tunable from 0.47 GHz to THz.  相似文献
